I‘ve now read several books by Kelly Jamieson, and she hasn’t disappointed me yet 🙂 . This book is told in dual POV, third person, and while third person is not my favorite thing in romance books, Kelly Jamieson does a great work with it, and she manages to give unique voices to her characters.
I really liked Carrie and Marco, and I loved how they were so similar in some ways. They valued the same things, they both wanted to be valued by the people they loved the most, and they wanted to feel like they belonged. I really liked that they started out as sort of enemies, but they dropped that pretense pretty easily and admit their attraction.
The romance evolves pretty slowly, even with the strong attraction between them. But they take their time to know each other better, and they spend a lot of time with each other, talking, having fun, being with family. I really liked how ingrained they were in each other’s lives. I also really liked the character development in this book. Both character grow a lot, and they make each other better.
Cátia mentioned this, and I agree 100%, that I love how involved and important friends and family are in this book.
Either way, this ended up being a super great read and it made me want to pick up the first book in the series ASAP.

Title: Hot Shot
Series: Last Shot #2
Author: Kelly Jamieson
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: May 16, 2017

Synopsis:
A former Navy SEAL and current bad boy bar owner learns to trust a free spirit in this steamy novel of unexpected romance from the bestselling author of Body Shot and the Heller Brothers series.
Marco Solis knows that if he gets too close to people they disappear. His parents were deported back to Mexico when he was fourteen, his fiancée married someone else while he was in the military, and now his business partner’s spending more time with his girl than with Marco. For better or worse, that’s how Marco meets Carrie Garner. She’s legitimately model-hot. She’s also a nut—a wild, artsy, unapproachable nut. So why is Marco so interested in cracking her shell?
Although Carrie Garner is a natural in front of the camera, her dream is to make it as a photographer. Soon she’ll be heading to Spain for design school, and she’ll miss her best friend, Hayden, like crazy. She’ll even miss Hayden’s boyfriend, Beck—but she won’t miss Beck’s partner, Marco. Bossy, brooding, and annoyingly sexy, Marco really pushes her buttons, though he obviously wouldn’t mind pushing her buttons in an up-against-the-wall, hard-and-fast kind of way. The craziest part is, if Carrie lets him do that, well . . . she may never want to leave.
My Thoughts:
This is the second book in this series and I have anxiously been awaiting this one since Last Shot. Carrie and Marco met the night her best friend Hayden met Marco’s friend and business partner Beck. Sparks flew for Hayden and Beck, but Carrie and Marco didn’t hit it off. Carrie felt that Marco was a player and was always trying to hit on her and she felt like he wasn’t genuine. Marco was taken with Carrie but he felt she was out of his league and wouldn’t give him a chance.
This is a story of frenemies to lovers. Carrie and Marco are working together as they are involved in the wedding of their best friends and have to plan an engagement party. As they are working together they both discover that they really didn’t know the person and guards are let down. The chemistry between these two is always simmering until it boils over and they can’t fight the pull.
There is quite a few laugh out loud crazy times with Carrie’s wonderful flamboyant grandmother and the rest of the secondary characters. There is some very touching heart to heart talks that Carrie and Marco discover so much about the other that I had a lump in my throat as they told their respective story’s. There is push and pull between the characters and decisions that must be made as the story draws to a conclusion.
I really enjoyed this terrific frenemy to lover’s romance and look forward to Cade’s story.

A cute enemies to lovers romance. I loved the back and forth banter between Marco and Carrie. They also knew how to burn up the sheets with lots of dirty talk. This book had a great combo of corny fun and hot and sexy.

This is Book 2 of the Last Shots series. Book 1 is Body Shots, which was Beck's story and Book 3 is Long Shots which will be Cade's story. Can't wait to read Cade's story next.
Thanks NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.
Carrie and Marco couldn't be more different on the surface, but beneath it all they are more similar than they realize.
Carrie is light hearted, fun loving and outgoing, the complete opposite of her best friend Hayden. Despite her successful modeling career, it is too easy for her to revert to the awkward teenager who bonded with the other social outcast of her class. Carrie's family doesn't help her self esteem or feelings of inadequacy either with the successful careers in the business world, and now that Hayden and Beck are together, Carrie is feeling more alone than ever.
Marco is happy for his best friend Beck's newfound happiness, but change in their tight knit group worries him. For years, Marco, Beck and Cade have been the 3 Musketeers of sorts, bonding first over the demons instilled in them by their younger years, then becoming true brothers as SEALs. Marco has lost a lot over the years; it feels as though everyone who matters to him leaves him in one way or another, and Beck is about to be the latest part of his family to pull away. The silver lining to Hayden's appearance in Beck's life is her best friend Carrie. From the moment Marco saw Carrie walk through the doors of Conquistadors, he couldn't help but notice her. Sure she is beautiful but she has an ease and a glow about her that draws everyone to her even if she can't see it sometimes.
Despite the mutual attraction, insecurities and failure to communicate complicate things at first. Marco is sure she hates him, and Carrie can't explain why he irritates her or thinks he's mocking her with his compliments. When a little alcohol loosens tongues and inhibitions, they are both aware of the sizzling attraction but still cautious to act on it due to their intertwined small circle of friends and Carrie's looming months long overseas trip.
Once they decide to indulge in a "hot romp" before she goes, it is definitely that but neither expects it to morph into more. Circumstances find them spending more time together and looking forward to it, but that clock is still ticking...
Hot Shot was an entertaining quick read! Marco and Carrie have plenty of chemistry, and there is a great supporting lineup of secondary characters too. Now there is just one man left standing, so I wonder who will bring down the manwhore Cade? I think we may have met her already, but time will tell...

“Admit it,” he murmured against her temple.
“No. I hate you.”
“I get that. But you still want me.” He brushed his lips over her temple. “And I want you.”
Former Navy SEAL, Marco Solis, and fashion model, Carrie Garner suddenly find themselves spending a lot of time together when their best friends Beck and Hayden become a couple. Marco is convinced that Carrie hates him and Carrie thinks that Marco is like all of the other men who only want to flirt with her based on her looks and not for who she is on the inside. As confident and successful as Marco is, he still has serious insecurities stemming from a rocky childhood, leading him to believe that Carrie is way out of his league. Not to mention the fact that she’s best friends with his best friend’s girl and she also happens to be leaving in a few months, so things could never work between them. But there’s no denying the sparks that fly whenever they are together. They decide to give in and have a fun little fling before Carrie has to leave, but neither one expects the real feelings that quickly develop. Will they figure out a way to make it work or will Carrie be just one more person that leaves Marco behind?
I read Body Shot last year and thought it was a fun and sexy read so I was looking forward to reading more about this crew and seeing what might happen between Marco and Carrie. I thought this was a sweet and ultimately heartwarming story. Marco and Carrie weren’t exactly enemies but they definitely didn’t get along very well when they first met, so it was fun seeing them realize that they actually did want each other and then finally giving it a go. Both of them had some issues but it was nice seeing them find the things they were missing in one another. They did have great chemistry and this book had plenty of steamy moments in addition to the more heartfelt moments. It was also fun seeing Hayden and Beck some more in this one and I’m more intrigued by Cade now. Marco and Carrie’s relationship was believable and this really is a likable crew. I enjoyed this story and look forward to Cade’s book and spending more time with this group of characters!
As you might know I already read a few of Kelly Jamieson's books. Actually, I ready one of her books a few weeks ago and I loved it so I was super excited to read this one (I'm also super excited to read the other ARC I have waiting for me :P). Being that I haven't read the first book in this series I didn't know what to expect but I ended up loving Hot Shot. It also helps that it has the "enemies turned lovers" trope because I love when that happens.
I loved the characters in this book. Carrie and Marco were amazing. I loved how different and similar they were to each other. First we have Carrie. She's this hard-working girl but still thinks she's not enough for her family since they are all overachievers. However, she's such a great girl. She does everything for her family and friends but she still has her doubts. I loved to see her grow and become a confident woman who knows she can do anything. Marco, just like Carrie, is really hard-working and does everything for his friends (who are his family). He has had a rough life which makes him not believe in happy endings but seeing him with Carrie warmed my heart so much. I loved how much they helped each other with their problems. However, it would have been better if they had talked about some things. Don't get me wrong! One of the things I loved in their relationship was how honest they were with each other about their lives and their past but everything would have been easier if they have told how they felt for each other. Also, they had a great chemistry and that helped a lot XD.
One of the things I love about Kelly Jamieson's books is the way she includes friends and family in her stories. I love how she shows how important those characters are in the main characters lives and that is one of my favorite things in her books since not every author does the same. That is something she did in this book. I loved how important Hayden and Carrie's family were to her. I especially loved Julia and she's a sweet cinnamon roll. I also loved the bond Marco has with his best-friends, Beck and Cade. For me it's amazing when a romance book is not only about romance but also about friendship and family and Kelly Jamieson does that perfectly.
Once again, I really enjoyed the writing. While the third person POV is still not my favorite I'm getting used to it in Kelly's books because she does it in an awesome way. Unlike Dancing in the Rain, Hot Shot was a fast read and flew really easily even with the third person. I also love that her books are in a dual POV and that the main characters have distinct voices. I really want to read the first book in this series, Body Shot, now because I absolutely adored Hayden and Beck (also, Hayden is a science girl and that makes me love her even more). I also can't wait to read Cade's book because that guy is too mysterious.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I loved to see Carrie and Marco together and how they grew so much together. I also loved their bonds with their friends and family. I was a really good book and if you love romances you should definitely read this one.
I am a huge fan of Kelly Jamieson's hockey romance books. But it seems that when it comes to romance there isn't anything that Kelly Jamieson can't do! The "Last Shot" series is about three ex- Navy SEAL friends who have opened a tequilla bar called Conquistadors. The first book of the series was about Beck and Haydn. If you have read it than you couldn't have missed the intense chemistry between Marco and Haydn's best friend Carrie. Yes, they were bickering and trying to annoy one another the whole time, but as we all know, sometimes that can be the biggest sign that there is something hot and intense just waiting to be unleashed! Well, let me tell you that when that intense attraction is released it will leave you hot and bothered ;)
Marco Solis lost his whole family when they were deported to Mexico. He and his sister were thrown into the foster care system. But it seems that nobody was interested in keeping a surly teenage boy who had no idea how to deal with his anger and fear. He finds the family that he lost when he joins the SEALs and finds his two best friends Beck and Cade. His only wish now is to have a family, but after his fiancee leaves him to marry someone else while he is on tour, he finds it difficult to trust anyone and make himself vulnerable again. He can't help but be mesmerized by the stunning blonde model who he now has to see on a regular basis due to fact that their best friends are about to tie to knot.
Carrie Garner has had her eye on the sexy tequilla pro since first setting eyes on him at their first tequilla tasting night. She may be a model who graces the covers of magazines, but she has never felt worthy. That all changes when she gets accepted to a photography program on a scholarship in Spain. She has only a couple of weeks left before she has to move there for 9 months. Even though she is scared to leave her best friend and everything familiar behind, she feels that this is the only way that she can prove herself to her family of over achievers. So when Marco proposes a couple of weeks of unattached sex she finds herself more than ready to accept.
A sexy read with some very HOT love scenes. But there is so much more to this book than just that. It is a sweet and emotional read about two injured souls who feel that they are unworthy of true love and find themselves quite unexpectedly right in the middle of it!
Can't wait to see who will be able to tame the wild Cade in the next book of the series.
I loved this book! My only concern was the lack of communication between Marco and Carrie. There were times when I felt like they were acting like teenagers, instead of the adults that they are. Marco owns a bar with two of his best friends. Carrie is best friends with the wife of one of Marco's best friends. When Carrie and Marco decide to throw a party for their best friends, they both think they can handle the attraction.
Marco has been interested in Carrie, but because he shamelessly flirts and sometimes says the wrong thing, Carrie throws off the vibe that she can't stand him and wants nothing to do with him. Carrie is attracted to him, but he says all the wrong things and she believes that he thinks she is 'just a model'.
While working together, they can't deny the attraction and decide to be together until she goes to her school in another country. The best laid plans; however, never go the way you think they will. They both learn things about the other that makes their preconceived notions shift and change. They both have deeper feelings than they admit to, but don't acknowledge to the other person. When he calls it off earlier than expected, Carrie is heartbroken and believes that she was falling for him but the feelings weren't reciprocated. In actuality, he fell for her too, but saw how excited she was about her trip, so he left her before she could leave him (like everyone else in his life).
Will Carrie go on her trip? Will Marco realize that he needs to be honest with Carrie about how he feels? Will it be too late?
I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.
I give this book four smoking, caliente stars because Marco is a shot that I do not mind taking straight. Hot Shot is a story about two insecure individuals who come together and find love, acceptance, self-confidence. Former Navy Seal hottie Marco is as hot as it gets and I absolutely loved him in this story. I did not read the first book in the series and that did not take away the enjoyment. Every character was introduced marvelously and this story was brought to life with compelling characters and a good love story. I enjoyed the characters' journey to finding love and this story also had some heat to balance it. The characters were very compatible and I could not get enough of the sizzling chemistry between Marco and Carrie. The characters were well developed with Marco being a character looking for a family and Carrie wanting to feel a part of hers.
One of the things that I did not like about the story was how much of a pushover Carrie was for her family. Carrie was one of those characters that had a big heart and comes from a family that is very distinguished. She was simply a model and felt like she did not live up to their accomplishments, but when you get to know her family you see that they love her very much.
This is a recommended read and this story is full of heart, compassion, and a sprinkle of sex. Pick this story up and get ready to fall in love with a Navy seal.
Wonderful story about forbidden love between an incredibly sexy fireman and a woman living an unhappy life. Sparks flew from the first chapter. Love it and will definitely recommend it.
“You glow. It comes from the inside. You’re beautiful on the outside, but inside is where the real beauty is.”
Know what? I'm glowing. ME.
Why? Well, that’s simple. It's because Hot Shot was so, so good.
I'd been looking forward to this book since I read Body Shot (which, in all honesty, feels like forever ago), and I had high expectations. After all, Kelly Jamieson is an author whose books I've enjoyed—a lot—in the past (Aces Hockey is a must-read series, FYI), and happily, Marco and Carrie lived up to said expectations.
This is a completely charming, totally hot enemies-to-lovers romance. Well… kind of enemies. I loved that these two perfect romance characters were, in fact, not perfect. At least, they didn’t think so of themselves. It was interesting to see how they viewed themselves in relation to the other, how they perceived actions and words, causing their conflict and, ultimately, their electric chemistry.
And whoa, electric is an understatement. Marco and Carrie are combustible. Fire. Fireworks.
But they're also sweet. The way they related to each other was developed well—although there were one or two moments I felt like we rehashed things a touch—and oh, I couldn’t help but become invested. The closer I got to the end, the more I felt my frown forming, my heart pounding and my need to see things work out become unquenchable.
Thankfully, the ending (indeed, the whole entire book) sated me. I loved seeing Beck and Hayden again, watching, waiting and anticipating Cade's (soon-to-come) fall and just generally reading about people who feel like they could be friends. But mostly, I loved Carrie—her drive, her all-to-relatable insecurities, her kindness—and Marco—gruff SEAL overcoming his past hurts and doing it while being really freakin' hot.
Like, hot. I mentioned that he and Carrie were combustible, right? Fan yourself, take a cold shower, clench your thighs combustible... Hmm, is it any wonder I'm glowing?
This man kept surprising her . . . he was moody and grim, but also unexpectedly attentive and seductive. It was a dangerous combination.
I love your book. Self-confidence, love, friendship and passion all in one great story. Hope to see them in an other book
Hot Shot is a decent book and I enjoyed it. The book is pretty much what you would expect from a Kelly Jamieson romance. I think it is closer to 3 1/2 stars than 4 stars, but I don't like to score a book down.
Our couple, Carrie and Marco, are likable characters who have hidden depths. Carrie is not just an airhead model and Marco is not just a guy looking to skate through life going from party to party. Both characters have self worth issues stemming from their childhoods (where the seeds of self worth issues are generally sown).
Over the course of the book both characters grow and help each other figure out what they want in their lives. By the end of the book I did feel that Carrie and Marco belonged together and had a foundation to build a lasting romantic relationship on.
I would recommend the book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romance.
Great book. I really enjoyed the story line between Marco and Carrie and all of the insecurities they both had about themselves and each other.
Though this a second book in a series it can be read without reading the first one. Carrie the heroine is the best friend of the heroine in the first book. Carrie has signed up to go to a photography class in Spain for nine months. One of the reasons she did this is because she realizes her modeling days are numbered and she wants to prove to her family she is just as smart as the rest of them. Marco is best friend of the hero in the first book. At first it seems like Carrie and Marco do not like each other but as they start to spend time together planning their friends engagement party they notice theres an attraction. A novel of both individuals never feeling accepted and feeling not a part of. Book touch on very relevant matter in todays world. Marco parents were deported back to Mexico when he was a child. He was separated from his sister and put in a foster home. Carrie never feeling truly special though she made her living being a model. Sweet story. Review can be found on Goodreads and amazon.com
Loved this story! It's the second in a series but you can easily read this one and enjoy it without having read the first. Marco Solis is a former Navy SEAL who now owns a Tequila bar along with his two buddies. Marco is strong, determined, and sexy but underneath it all he deals with insecurities every day. Never letting himself get to close to many people fearing they will leave too. His parents where deported when he was a young teen and his fiancee couldn't wait for him to return from deployment before moving on so why should he trust anyone will stick around. Then Carrie Garner starts hanging around his bar more frequently and he want her to stick around more than anything but he knows she has plans to leave at the end of the summer. Can he just enjoy her for the amount of time they have or will his heart be hurt again?
This is a very well done story and one I would recommend to everyone.
I really enjoyed this story, however, I took a star away because I really got fed up of the F word being used so often, it really wasn't necessary for the character's dialogue .
I loved the characters and their story, the way their friendship and love built, their humour and their interactions with friends.
I very much look forward to reading Cade's story soon.
Marco and Carrie star in this story and they are so much alike it is scary. They are both insecure which is crazy because they are both accomplished in their professions but personally they are goofs. Once they figure out they really do not hate each other and the sparks are really chemistry and the heat should be explored all bets are off and the fun "romp" is on! This was a fun story that at times I wanted to shake these characters up and tell them to open their eyes. At least they figured it out by the end :) Gotta love a HEA!
This could be read as a standalone but I really recommend the first in the series only because it was good too.
**Received this ARC copy for review from the publisher via NetGalley**
Very sweet story. Carrie is at a crossroads in her life, her jobs for modeling are becoming less frequent the older she gets, as well as some of the novelty and glamour, and her best friend is getting married, all these factors made her she needed a change so she applied to school in Spain. Marco, the groom to be's best friend and business partner decided the engaged couple needed an engagement party and whose help would he need but the bride to be's best friend. Carrie is reluctant to work closely with the flirting Marco because she's leaving soon for Spain and she's unsure if he's really sincere and not just wanting in her pants. Marco has attracted to Carrie since he met her when she and her friend came to a tasting at the bar he co-owned. When their togetherness has them thinking lustful thoughts Carrie agrees to a short no strings fling, but as they spend more time together lasting feelings grow and big decisions need to be made as the days to her trip quickly run out.
I really enjoyed this story because there was plenty of humor and great characters. Both had problems and hang up to overcome before they healed each other. Also Marco's a sexy thoughtful guy, who knows how to build up Carrie's self esteem.
Sexy, flirty and fun. Kelly Jamieson writes a romance stoked by desire but curbed by fears.
If you read Body Shot, book #1 in the Last Shot series, you may recall Marco Solis. Ex-Navy SEAL, co-owner of Conquistador bar, happily single until super-hot model Carrie Garner starts spending time in his bar and getting under his skin. She’s also crazy talented with a camera and to Spain with a scholarship for design school and she’s totally out of his league. So for a guy who doesn’t let people get close for fear of being left behind there’s no reason for him to pursue her, but can he resister her?
When her best friend started dating her now fiancée Beck and knowing her modeling career wouldn’t last forever, Carrie Garner felt a bit unnecessary and decided to study abroad for a few months. But before leaving she’s roped into helping with her BFF’s engagement party by none other than Beck’s partner, the brooding, gorgeous Latin man who drives her crazy. Crazy enough to make her think twice about leaving.
If insecurities are unattractive, you’d think that beautiful people wouldn’t have problems with them, right? Wrong! Both hero and heroine in this story struggle with their own set of uncertainties that bungle up their attraction each other.
After his parents are forcefully deported to Mexico when he was young, Marco and his sister are put into foster care. Soon after, he’s separated from his sister and bounced around from one family to the next, which causes a deep seated fear of being unwanted. Carrie grew up in a loving family full of successful professionals who must view her modeling career as flighty, making her feel like she’ll never measure up.
Even though Carrie and Marco couldn’t stand each other, they made an effort for their best friends’ sake and upon spending time together they realize that their attraction is mutual and scorching hot, and while their relationship started as just a fling with an expiration date, as they spend more time together and get to know one another the desire they felt grew to much more.
I really enjoyed getting to know this couple as they flirted, bantered, accepted and understood one another, helped each other get over their insecurities, plan a fun engagement party, help organize a program to get kids off the streets through art and ultimately fall in love.
Hot Shot is book #2 in the Last Shot series by Kelly Jamieson. It is a sexy, sweet and fun standalone contemporary romance with charming characters and an appealing storyline. It is told from both points of view with a happy ending.
