There were too many things I didn't like about this book. The story felt a little flat and it seemed to go in too many different directions. Carrie's grandmother was a great character; can she get her own book? The part I liked best was the not-quite-connection between Reece and Cade, and that whole thing was just... dropped. Presumably their story is next, but still they were practically in the middle of a conversation and then, oh I guess we're done. *MILD SPOILER* And seriously, these two can't cough up the L-word until they're on a plane together and literally en route to another country? Fear of commitment, much? A one night stand confronts Cade and bursts into tears in public? The whole last part of the book was scene after scene of I-don't-believe-this.

Since I didn't connect to either the characters or the story this time anyway, I suspect this author and I are over.

Finally, making the hero an anchor baby* didn't set well with me. A Latino, sure. A Latino with that background, no. I suppose most won't even pick up on this, but it was a real sore point with me.

* A child with illegal alien parents, who birth him in the US to ensure he can sponsor his own parents and other family members upon the age of majority. This practice burdens US resources

3.5 Stars!

You never really think about the "beautiful" people having insecurities. Marco, a former seal who owns a tequila bar with his 2 best friends seems like he has it all. What most people don't know is he's still struggling with insecurities from being bounced around in foster care as a child. Carrie, a model/photographer, has her own set of insecurities. Her family is made up of very smart people and Carrie feels that she doesn't measure up.

What you get in this story is two beautiful people that are attracted to each other but miss all the social cues based off their insecurities and believe the other is not sincere. They finally get honest with each other (well partially honest) when they come together to plan their best friends engagement party. While being forced to spend time together, they realize the attraction is mutual.

I say they are partially honest because while they admit they are attracted, they still can't admit they want more than just a fling before Carrie takes up a scholarship in Spain for 9 months. At first I was worried the insecurities was going to be too much in the story and it did feel that way in the beginning. The more these two became closer the less we saw of the insecurities and their relationship felt more real.

Overall, this was a fun read once we got past the insecurities and I really enjoyed seeing the couple from the first book again. We also get to see a possible match for Cade in book 3.

This is book 2 in the Last Shot series by Kelly Jamieson. I truly like this author. This series isn't my favorite but it is good. Marco is one of 3 Navy SEALS that opened a tequila bar. Carrie is a model/photographer. Marco and Carrie hate each other and find each other irritating but when Marco decides to throw his best friend a couples wedding shower he recruits Carrie and sparks fly from there. I do like how things happened and the love you can feel between these two.

Marco Solis and Carrie Garner make the perfect "lonely hearts club of two" in Kelly Jamison's latest addition to her Last Shot series.
This book stands as irrefutable proof that sometimes, "having it all" isn't everything. Because even though Marco is a former Navy SEAL, turned bar owner. (Brooding, dark, good looks and body of a Greek god included.) He can't seem to shake the tragic losses of his past.

In much the same vein...
The equally emotionally encumbered, yet equally fabulous Carrie Garner just can't seem to find her place in her own life. Feeling like an outcast because her free spirit and artistic nature has lead to a life of runways and bright lights. Instead of the more practical business related professions of her family. Carrie has decided that maybe the best thing to do would be accept an opportunity to pursue studies in photography in Spain.
That is of course, after she helps to plan their best friends' wedding.

Enter tall, dark, and broody!

This sweet romance is all about perception. The way that the two main characters perceive each other...to an extent. But more to the point. How happenings and perceptions from their respective pasts, have shaped for better or worse, how they perceive themselves.

The longer that one is involved in this story; the longer one comes to realize that these two have had everything that they have been seeking the entire time. They each just needed the other to hold up the "love mirror" and say so.
This factor, as pivotal as it is to the "light bulb moment" of the read, is also the one facet of said story that is the hardest to reconcile.
The chemistry and sex are stellar. There is nothing that readers will crave more than these two together.
The inclusive slant, with nods to family and belonging add that heartfelt element that rounds this romance out in a very lovely fashion.

Reviewer's Note: This is the second book in a loosely related series. Though reading book one is strongly suggested, it is not necessary.

This story wasn't really my thing. It was well written but I didn't connect with either of the characters which is strange because I have read and loved several of the author's previous novels. The story was very HOT and I did enjoy watching their story unfold but I didn't really care if they got an HEA or not.

Hot, steamy, erotic! Marco and Carrie had chemistry that was off the charts and to see them fall in love on top of it was just icing on the cake. Kelly's style of writing draws you in 100%.

This is the second book in a series about three SEAL brothers-in-arms who left the service and opened a tequila bar together. I did not read the previous book, but had no problem reading this as a stand alone. Carrie Garner and Marco Solis don't like each other very much, but as their best friends are engaged, they are forced to spend more time together as they plan a surprise engagement party. Will they over come their animosity and realize that they have misread how the other feels? Marco learn that not only is Carrie a beautiful model and talented photographer, but also has self doubts, often feels awkward and unneeded and needs to prove to her family that she can be successful. Marco on the other hand has abandonment issues. His parents were deported as they were here illegally, he lost touch with his sister in foster care system and his ex-fiancee could not wait for his service to end and married someone else. At one point I was afraid that the author was going to turn this book into a platform for illegal aliens, but did not and instead Marco feels "there was right and there was wrong, and people who have done wrong could not go unpunished.", although it was concerning Carrie's niece. I enjoyed reading this book and watching their journey as they discover more about each other and themselves. The characters are well developed and engaging.

Marco and Carrie's best friends are dating, so these two are constantly hanging out. Marco develops feelings for Carrie, but doesn't act on them initially because she plans to leave the country soon to study abroad. After a series of events, the two act on their feelings.

This was a good read. Kelly Jamieson is one of my favorite author's and I enjoyed reading this story.

The plot has been done so many times, the guy and girl can't stand each other, but eventually like each other. The dialog was good though with humor interspersed throughout...though I wasn't particularly fond of Marco's dropping the "f" bomb too often and his choice of words he used to describe having sex with Carrie. At times it made me feel as if he had no respect for her.

Marco and Carrie's chemistry was good, and their push-pull relationship was entertaining...but it was difficult to read how down on themselves they were. All in all, it was an OK story.

This book was provided by the Publisher and Netgalley, I am voluntarily providing honest review.

Marco is a former SEAL and current bar owner, along with his SEAL buddies. Due to his family being deported and a fiancé who betrayed him, Marco commits to living the bachelor life forever. You can't get hurt if you don't let someone get close, right?

Carrie is Hayden's best friend, from book one, and a supermodel. Her former life wasn't always so glamourous and she and her best friend spent most of their awkward teenage years being ridiculed. Carrie has a difficult time accepting compliments and still carries her lack of self-esteem with her despite how she looks now.

Marco and Hayden have mutual friends that keep pushing them together. At first, due to Carrie's lack of self confidence, anytime Marco approaches Carrie, she things he is teasing her. They develop a friend-emie type of relationship until they each start finding themselves wanting to spend more time with one another. With Carrie leaving for a 9 month photography course, however, its the perfect time for a no strings attached affair. It's works out perfectly for both of them until feelings actually develop and grow....

Cute book! I read the first book prior to reading this ARC just to have background knowledge. This can be read as a stand-alone, however, I recommend reading them in order as the first book does introduce these characters!

There is a thin line between love and hate. Carrie knows she loathes Marco, from their first meeting she feels like she is being mocked. Marco just can't cut a break when he lists after what he didn't think he's good enough to obtain. But it all changes when they start to let the barriers fall and put a timetable on their tryst. Because what may have appeared to be hate was smoking chemistry that couldn't be denied. The second installment in the series gives us more insight into all the characters as they progress through life. The guys are family and you want to see happy endings for them all.

Great job! Loved the ending where Marco finally sees his true feelings and is finally willing to risk it all.

I really enjoy Kelly Jamieson's writing style. Her characters are well developed and she provides interesting, realistic dialogue. I enjoyed the developing relationship between Marco and Carrie and their artistic connection was believable and interesting--and something a bit different. I'm looking forward to the next book in her series.

God just love a navy seal even if he's a former one. Macro has problems with getting to close to people coz when he does they get taken away from his life, like his parents getting sent back to Mexico and his former fiancé married someone else while he was away on duty and his best friend who has fallen in love with Carrie best friend. That's how these two get together as they want each other but don't want to as he's afraid she will leave an she will want to stay when she wants to go to Spain to become a photographer which is her dream. But you just can't stop wanting these two together as they are so hot, sexy an funny when they are near each other. Fell in love with this story and can't wait for more. Was very well written and fantastic read. Again Kelly Jamieson has out done herself. Love this author and her books would recommend all of them.

Ummm, does anyone else desperately want to belly up to the Conquistadors Tequila Bar?!? Seriously.  Three hot, badass owners, fabulous booze and a crazy group of patrons to get to know.  I want in!

I loved going back to this group of characters in Hot Shot - especially since we're getting to know Marco. He was sexy and mysterious in the first book - hella enticing. He has lead an interesting life and has some pretty serious baggage. Putting his trust in others is definitely not easy for him.

Marco is coupled with Carrie, the best friend of couple from the first book, Body Shot. She's a model who has aspirations of being more than just being a pretty face. Both in her career and in her love life.

The sexual tension between these two is off the charts off. Wooziers. I loved them together. But they both really struggle to find their way in their new relationship. It's both annoying and realistic.

Overall, I thought Hot Shot was an excellent romance. Marco and Carrie gave me all the feels and their journey toward finding solace and happiness is can't miss reading.  Definitely pick up a copy of this book.

Hot Shot is a great addition to the Last Shot series. Marco is so sensitive, I just didn't expect that. And Carrie is so caring, always looking for ways to help someone or make someone's life a little easier and happier. Together they make such a good couple.
Hot Shot could be read as a stand alone, but I think would be enjoyed more if you read Body Shot first. Same characters in both books, and we get a continuation of Becks and Haydens happiness.

This is the second novel in the Last Shot series. Marco is an insecure hunk with abandonment issues, and Carrie is an insecure model, trying to turn pro-photographer.

What I liked most about this novel:
- The setup of the main storyline as Carrie has to decide “should I stay or should I go” as she falls for Marco, making her decision more difficult
- Marco’s ability to rise above adversity (parents and sister taken away, raised in numerous foster homes as basically unwanted)
- I liked that both main characters shared a love of artistic endeavors, the same basic values, and they had good chemistry
- It was a nice surprise to see how Carrie figures out a way to help her mom in a meaningful way
- Loved Grandma Garner – she’s a real hoot

What I didn’t care for so much:
- It was a little odd that both main characters had the same character flaw, makes it a little difficult for one to help the other grow with any confidence
- I can read colorful language all day long, as long as it fits the story, but this was a little too much for me. The language went a bit overboard sometimes, making me wonder if the author has a deep-seeded issue with religion, using phrases like “Christ on the cross” turned me off
- Some of the dialogue during their first sex scene bordered on juvenile, which didn’t fit his character (a savvy businessman, former SEAL, and artist)
