Wow! Okay, so I was a little skeptical starting this book because I hadn't read the first one. I've only ever read a few books from the Aces Hockey series, and those were phenomenal. I had high hopes for this book because the summary was so intriguing and the reviews were raving. However, I just couldn't help but feel like something was missing.
I felt like the book started off very uneasy, Marco and Carrie's relationship was slow - which I can appreciate, but then once you read 50% of the book everything goes really fast paced. On the one hand I liked the slow burn, but the fact that their relationship progresses so fast to eventually a proposal? In only about two months if im remembering correctly.
Now, lets talk about what I LOVED about this book. First, Marco is so adorable. Maybe that not what a guy wants to hear let alone a fictional guy but still! He is confident but equally sensitive and what shocks me is that him and Carrie both share insecurities. They bond over the fact that they felt unwanted when they were younger, both in very different scenarios. I felt like this topic could've been used in such a better way though! This was mentioned only a few times and I felt like it added a great depth to the characters.
I liked this book but didn't love it.
I loved this book!
This is the second book in this series, focusing on Marco and Carrie. These two have some of the best chemistry! You can just feel the heat coming off of them through the book.
This is my favorite book, so far, from this author. She really brought her A game with this one!
Hot Shot by Kelly Jamieson had all the makings to be a fantastic book, but I just couldn't get into this one. I've read a couple of other stories by this author and have loved them, but I just kept rolling my eyes at these two attractive people and their "insecurities". Rich people problems type of eye rolls, but perhaps if you're looking for a lightweight romance that is well written and graphic in the bedroom, which I happen to enjoy reading, when done well, than you'll probably want to give this book a shot. A Hot Shot. Lol sorry, couldn't pass up the pun. I appreciate the opportunity to read the book though, and Thank the author, publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.
I was given an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest and independent review.
Kelly Jamieson writes easy to read romantic novels with some steamy scenes. Whilst I enjoyed this one, the storyline was not as intricate as in some of her other books.
The hero in this one is again an ex SEAL, alpha male, gorgeous and with a generous and kind disposition. The perfect hero!
3.5***
I love Kelly Jamieson. I love her writing so much. Her hockey series is by far MY FAVORITE! and I am a lifelong bibliophile. Like I can't ever wait to review her books that is how much I love them, and Hot Shot is no different. Great, different characters and story line!
Carrie and Marco are around each other a lot due to their respective friends being engaged. They don't get along, until they start planning a party together and they realize that they might have let their own emotional hang-ups taint their views on each other. While Carrie is leaving soon and Marco isn't interested in a relationship, they decide to just have fun with each other until Carrie leaves and they will go their separate ways.
This is a nice story, with some great characters, but the writing fell a little short for me. Carrie and Marco both let their past experiences completely dull their lives to the point where nothing will seem to break through the past that they just won't move away from. I was given a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
I really liked the story and the characters really engrossing
Kelly Jamieson does it again with her latest installment in the "Last Shot" series, HOT SHOT! Perfect blend of hot and steamy, laughter, tears, and friendship. Readers will be drawn in from the very first page and will be waiting with bated breath to see if love will find it's way into the main characters' hearts. Definitely recommend!
I enjoyed book, it was a little slow going at first, but finally we ended up getting a love story. Marco had been interested in Carrie since he first met her. However, since Carrie still felt inadequate in her self esteem, she thought he was making fun of her and also just seeing her as a piece of meat, so she hated him. Marco also had self esteem issues he had to get over so he whenever Carrie rebuffed he felt rejected and so ended up being grumpy. They get together to plan a bridal shower for there best friends, and as they spend time together, they end up hooking up, thinking they do it, since it has an expiration date. Things do not go as planned, they fall in love, and of course do not communicate there feelings, so they let each other go. But when they finally open up, they end up together. Now it is on to Cade's story, hopefully.
Sweet enemies to lovers story. Easy to read as a stand alone but I can't wait to see what finally catches Cade's attention in the next book in the series. Loved both Marco and Carrie. This group of friends works so well together. Really liked the back story on both these leads. Really steamy love scenes.
Overall well written and a joy to read.
Marco & Carrie both have it going on from the outside looking in but are actually also dealing with some self-esteem issues. Marco is yummy, a little prideful & lonely, he's a great catch but he just doesn't realize it. I laughed out loud at the antics of these two as they try to do something special for their friends which grows their attraction to one another to undeniable proportions. He stole a piece of my heart with that airport scene. Very well written, exciting, sexy, engaging and realistic read.
a fabulous story by Ms. Jamison. Excellent writing. Enjoyed it!

Marco and Carrie are an unlikely couple at the beginning of the story, but as time goes on, they realize how a misunderstanding has tainted their view of each other. Together, they realize how compatible they are, although they are on a short time frame or are they? This book has you rooting for Carrie to realize what she’d be leaving behind, but will she realize it in time? Another excellent story by Kelly Jamieson!
I’ve enjoyed all the Kelly Jamieson books that I’ve read and this one is no exception. This is the second in her series about a group of former SEALs who have opened a tequila bar together.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Carrie Garner is a model whose best friend is engaged to Beck, one of the owners of the bar. So she goes there often which is fine except for the hot looks she gets from Marco, the sexy bartender. Marco.
As the son of illegal immigrants who was left behind when his parents were deported and then bounced around among foster families until he joined the military, Marco is insecure about truly belonging except with his military buddies and business partners. He and Carrie strike sparks off each other but he doesn’t figure that he will ever deserve a happy long-time relationship, especially with a hot model. Carrie is more than a model; she’d prefer to be a photographer. She has her own insecurities since everyone else in her family is a high achiever and she fears that being a model doesn’t rate in her family’s estimation.
As Carrie and Marco work together to make sure that their best friends have a wonderful wedding, they start falling for each other and overcoming their insecurities. That’s no surprise, but it’s fun reading along with them as they do it.

Frenemies to lovers story with good bones, but an overabundance of plot points. Marco, former Navy SEAL and current bar owner asks model/photographer Carrie to help him plan an engagement party for their two best friends. They both have the hots for each other, but their own insecurities mask their obvious interest. When forced to work together on this project, along with many other things that happen to come up, they begin to see they may actually be perfect for one another. Too bad Carrie is leaving for Spain in two months...
I was excited for a minute (not having read the previous book in this series) when I thought Marco and Carrie would be planning a same-sex engagement party for the couple Hayden and Beck, but alas no. Also, Marco used "fuck" a bit too much. I use the f-bomb a lot so I am not usually one to complain, but I found it to be a bit unimaginative after awhile especially during the sexy times.
Marco and Carrie are brought together by friends; their best friends are getting married. As they start out they do not like each other, but as the story moves on and they get to know more about each other, they each start to realize they have more in common than they thought.. Both fighting their own insecurities, Marco and Carrie (more Carrie than Marco) also fight the undeniable connection between them. It doesn't last long before they are giving into their physical feelings.
I thought the writing of the characters were done well, and with a lot of depth, It helps you understand these two, I enjoyed Marco and Carrie, but have to be honest. I wanted to smack Carrie. She seems put off by Marco, yet she still wanted to enjoy the sex. She was too busy casting stones to enjoy what was in front of her.
This story is told in the third person.
Kelly Jamieson has long been a 'go-to' author for me. "Hot Shot" is another reliable read - a perfect example of everything I look for in this genre. The characters connect with each other, the supporting players are interesting and the story is the perfect degree of steamy. Escapism at it's relaxing, untaxing best!
I loved everything about this book. I’ve been a fan of Kelly Jamieson that goes back several years; her writing style is always mature and well written. From the beginning, you can tell that Marco had deeper feelings for Carrie but suppressed them because of his own insecurities that stemmed back to childhood. Marco and Carrie’s best friends, Beck and Hayden from Body Shot, are getting married, which means M/C paths crossed often – too often for Carries peace of mind. Even though Carry models for a living she also has insecurities that go back to childhood. Marco seems broody and has a scowl much of the time but every time he lets loose a smile Carry’s heartrate goes up. As for Marco, every time he’s sees Carry his is off the charts. At first, they each thought the other didn’t like one another and sniped and poked subtle insults. As they spend time together their lust drove them crazy until they decided to go for the sex knowing there was an expiration date. Carry was given an opportunity to learn photography in Mexico and would be leaving in a few short months. Throughout this book, you can tell that Marco’s feelings are deep and Carry’s feelings were developing more and getting harder to suppress. I just love the emotions that could be felt between the hero/heroine. This is a good light read with no unexpected surprises but a great book to sit down, enjoy and relax. . I was fortunate to receive this free book for a pre-release ARC review. This is one that I will read again and again – I definitely recommend.
