I was disappointed that this was a reissue of a book that I had read in the past, not a new book by this author. It was a good story to re-read the second time around!
Good read, kept my attention throughout. Would like to read the rest in the series.
I read Heat Wave back in 2008 and thought it was a good book. I used to read Jill Marie Landis as often as she would release a book but have to stay it has been a while since I have read anything current. She is a good writer and I will be going back to 2008 and catching up on her books.
I love Ms. Landis's books but I had not read any in this series. Though I enjoyed this book I don't know if I will purchase the rest in the series. This book was well written but I felt as if I had read it before or maybe just in my mind I had an idea of what was next. I look forward to future books by this author
I read the blurb and had my expectations set, but this story blew those preconceived ideas out of the water. The story didn't follow any of my ideas of what would happen. Kudos to Landis for writing a story that was a step out of the box.
Kat Vargas was a private investigator who had been injured on the job and was taking some time to recuperate in Twilight Cove, California housesitting for her former partner and his wife while they were on an extended vacation in New Mexico.
Ty Chandler has just recently moved from Alaska back to Twilight Cove where he had grown up to help his dying mother. He found out from his dying mother that his one true love from high school , Amy, had been pregnant when she left town, after high school. That would mean his child had to be about nineteen years old now. He was angry that he had never been told but he was determined to track his child down to make sure he/she was okay. He decided to hire Kat Vargas to help him find his child.
Kat wasn't sure about taking this case. She was supposed to be resting and recovering but she was bored and there wasn't much to do to stay busy in the small town. As Kat and Ty began their search, they also began a romantic relationship with each other. But, Kat had been heart by her ex-fiance and a tragedy that occurred as fall-out from that relationship. She never wanted to love again and she guarded her heart fiercely. But, once they found Ty's daughter, Sunny, and her daughter, Alice, she began to be scared about what was happening and the "cracks' that were forming around her hardened heart. Would she be able to learn to love and trust again or would she close herself off to the possibility in order to protect herself from the devastation a broken heart would cause.
This was a beautifully told story of learning to love again after heartache or loss and learning that having a family doesn't always mean blood relations. My one criticism of the book is the descriptive sex scenes. I find less details to be more appealing.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I reached for the box of tissues on several occasions while reading Heat Wave. Loved the book and I love the writing style of Jill Marie Landis.
I was immediately sucked into the story as Private Investigator Kat Vargas rushes out to meet a client who has followed her cheating husband to a motel. Things turn from bad to worse as the confrontation leaves Kat with a gunshot to her hand. Her partner, Jake, convinces her to take it easy for a few weeks and house sit at his home in Twilight Cove while he and his family are on vacation. Well, that was the plan anyway. Relax? Take it easy? Needless to say, that doesn't happen. Right away her solitude is broken by handsome Ty Chandler who recently found out that he has a daughter and wants desperately to find her. Not only does Kat help Ty find his daughter, they also discover he has a granddaughter as well. But life is not very sunny for his daughter with that same name. "Sunny" that is.
Jill Marie Landis brought together well-defined characters, each with their own stories. As those stories unfolded, these characters were brought together in an action packed and yet heartwarming adventure. There was love, heat, hesitation and lots of tingles! The romance was beautifully written and flowed naturally. Loved it!
