twists, turns, lies and betrayals. What could have been a simple second chance story turns out to be so much more. Tango and Slade were childhood sweethearts. He was the rich guy with the overprotective elite parents. Slade was from the wrong side of town and her mom had a less than stellar reputation. Tango broke Slade's heart and left for 6 years. Absolutely no contact. Tragedy brings him back and he barrels through everything to get his girl back. He took a lot for granted and some things that he did we not cool. Breaking her phone when her child is away is not a way to say take me back. He was kind of hard to like. He had his moments. He did always take up for her and did not let anyone say anything bad about her. Slade did not let Tango grovel enough. She was too easy on him. The big secret was pretty easy to guess but still made the story entertaining. I
I wanted to love Truck Stop Tango, I really did. Unfortunately, I just couldn't. It's interesting and has action, suspense, mystery and a little heat, but the pacing is off, doesn't answer all the questions it raises, has way too many subplots, and the H, Tango, is a d bag. The setup is this: Tango and Slade have been best friends since they were little kids. She's the daughter of the town wh*re, ugh, I really hate that phrase but it's hammered into our heads that this is what she is, is considered white trash (another phrase I REALLY HATE) and he's the son of really wealthy, conservative parents. As they become teenagers, they start dating and fall in love, much to the horror of his a** hole parents. Then, for some reason, on the night of their prom, he cheats on her with her friend, Addison, and she catches them in the act. The next day, he bails, and she doesn't see him again for 6 years.
But, now, he's back in town for his mother's funeral, and determined to get his one true love, Slade, back. Yeah...sure, she's his one true love but he's spent his 6 years away sleeping his way through the wh*res (yep, there's that word again) that litter the criminal (mafia) family he found his way into, and he doesn't care that Slade doesn't want him back. He spends far too little time groveling at Slade's feet, instead, he bulldozes his way into her life because he just knows Slade loves him, too, and hasn't gotten over him, regardless of the fact that the last time she saw him, he was sleeping with her friend, and he hasn't reached out to her at all since then. Yeah, he's a real prize, this one is!
Then there is the whole subplot of Slade's son, where he came from, who his father is, and what other secrets Slade is hiding. I actually like this subplot, because I like Slade, even though she's a little too indecisive with Slade (and FAR too forgiving). What I don't like is that there's another, interconnected, subplot of an MC association, not to mention the mafia association, in addition to the fact that Slade makes all kinds of discoveries about her blood line. Way, way too many things going on!
Ugh, my head is reeling thinking of all the things that happen in Truck Stop Tango. If it had been pared way back, and if Tango hadn't been such an a** hole, I might have rated it higher, but, unfortunately, I can't give it a higher review.
4.5 Stars Truck Stop Tango is the first book I have read by Krissy Daniels and I really enjoyed it. The mystery, twists and compelling storyline this story kept me hooked. Great Romantic Suspence, I look forward to reading more by this author.
The title intrigued me. The description was enticing giving just enough to have you wondering what was going on. When I started reading this book I immediately became immersed in the story- why did Tango leave his home, his family and not return for 6 years. Tragedy brings him home and face to face with what he calls the love of his life, but why aren't they together, what happened 6 years ago.
Slade is fierce and protective and immediately has you guessing why she has such strong feelings of hate or disgust for the newly departed. Her attraction to Tango is gripping and she can't stand to be around him because she know she will be weak and give in so she pushes him away. These two have a tortured past that has left them both with deep scars.
I consider myself good at solving mysteries and thought I had this one figured out. However, this book had as many layers as an onion and just like that onion some were tasty, some were bitter and some made you weep. The relationships Slade had cultivated within her small group were precious to her and she kept that circle small for protection for her and her secrets- blocking everything else out. She is a strong, sassy and sexy woman who fiercely protects what is hers. How can she fight her attraction to Tango- if she lets him close enough he will discover her secrets and it - will- ALL- be over.
Tango knows she is lying- he can't figure out why. Why does she push him away? He has his own past and issues to work through while dealing with his family, but can't help digging into Slade's life.
While there was enough action, adventure and sex appeal to this book, the true scene stealer is a little boy by the name of Rocky James Mason! Absolutely adorable!
My first Krissy Daniels book and I am a fan! Cannot wait for Tucker's book!
