“The world’s message is simple: you are enough. All on your own, you are enough. But that mantra fails us either because we deep down know we aren’t enough or because our self-esteem inflates and we charge through life independent of God and people. Either outcome leaves us lonely and disappointed. Self-esteem is not the answer. So why are we working so hard to do life, to make a difference all on her own?”

I’ll be honest: this summer was hard. I kept trapping myself into this narrative in which I told myself I was not enough for anything or anyone, and I couldn’t find a way out of it. I felt like there was no amount of effort or striving that could be done to fix that. But this book and the message behind it showed me what can happen when we boldly admit this and take a step back: When we admit we are not enough, we finally allow God the space He needs to do His work. Doesn’t that sound so freeing?! We don’t have to push ourselves past our limits, run away from failure, or try to be something we are not because God is going to use us regardless. He’ll use the good, the bad, the ugly.

This book taught me that life is about living WITH God; not FOR Him. He wants us to walk alongside Him and let Him do His work in us - not the other way around. We have nothing to prove when our identify rests in Him.

I cannot recommend this book enough. It is a life-changer, that’s for sure. I hope you love it just as much.

found it easy to read to the end. It grabbed my attention. Very interesting subject and it explained it well in the book. Brings another healing power of God into display. Helpful for people who need freedom from pleasing people all the time.

I have to say this book made me feel worse about how I handle life instead of better.

It made me think I have to prove my worth as a Christian by what I do, which I believe is probably the opposite result of what the author had in mind?

I like her, but I did not like this book. Sorry.

There are some good insights, but it quickly became redundant. I did not finish it. Goodreads rating: 2 stars (It was ok.)

NOTHING TO PROVE has the potential to be a life-changing book. If you are looking for this type of message, be sure to pick it up. Jennie Allen writes in a very relatable and understandable way. I was drawn to her examples and suggestions and marked many pages to remind myself later of her good points. I'll definitely look for other books by this author. Recommended for Christian readers and those who enjoy self improvement.

I'm having trouble downloading and viewing this on my Microsoft computer! Eek, help!

I love Jennie Allen, so I'm sure this book is just as solid as all her other books. I just am unable to view it through the way NetGalley has sent it to me.

I received an ARC of this book from WaterBrook & Multnomah.via NetGalley, this review is my personal opinion.

Wow, I usually read super fast, but not with this book. I decided to take my time and let all the amazing true to go to my heart. It definitely took me by surprise. Jennie Allen in an honest and practical way from the first person tells her own story and struggle about not been enough. I must say I related to many of the things she says on her book and was literally, saying: Oh my God!, that was not just me?. So, I realize I was not alone on all those fears-struggles-complex.

I say that this book is like a journey for the brave. Why I say that?. Because all do you may not want to, you will have to see the truth that it's very likely the one you been living your whole life. Many times we are searching for an answer, for something to feel the void. Even when we may know and be walking with God, and I could even say working in ministry, but there is still something missing in our hearts and mind; that only God knows about it. This book is a great place to start, and for that reason, I believe this book it's a must-read for all women because it will impact your life, the way you see yourself, your personal relationships, but must all our relationship with God.

I found so many great quotes on this book this is some of them.

God is so real and there is so much need in the world and it all feels so important and like we might screw up His plans or miss His plans.

God is not after great performances or great movements. He is after us!

God already knows we are not enough, but He’s not asking us to be. We are the ones who have chosen to walk through the desert with enormous packs strapped to our backs full of everything but water. As if the kingdom of God were held up or together by us.

To love is to be vulnerable. Yet just as God built us to need water and food every few hours, we are built to never be self-sufficient. Our needs and our thirst eventually bring us out of hiding. Then the water we choose to drink will determine whether we return to hiding or discover how to enjoy our lives again, to enjoy people and relationship again, to enjoy Him again.

Jesus calls us out of hiding.

Jesus calls us to taste the living water that wells up and sets free and washes and restores.

Jesus says, Let Me be your enough. You will be filled and you will be known and you will be free.

So, I say it from my own humble opinion. Take the leap and start this journey on discovering, you have nothing to prove. Because we are loved, accept it just as we are, no more, nor less.

Truly grateful to WaterBrook & Multnomah for the ARC of this book, it was an unexpected blessing in my life.

I cannot tell how much I needed this book. Often I focus on myself for negative reasons, and I focus on others, almost obsessively to the point it controls my life, thoughts, and worries. This was a book that spoke to me and how to focus on myself and my closeness to depend on Jesus. Highly recommended for those who need the reminder that they are important and have nothing to prove to borrow from the title.

The book calls us to "Find freedom from self-induced pressure by admitting we’re not enough—but Jesus is." All I can say to that is Amen and thank you Jesus!
Overall, I liked this book and would recommend it. Jennie shared some personal examples that made it easy to relate to. I think we all have moments where we are trying to hard and would benefit from her message of "nothing to prove"
I liked her style of writing and appreciated the experience questions after each chapter so I could digest it a little better. I was challenged by many of these questions.

Jennie Allen's vulnerability in this book is both challenging and engaging. She uses her own experiences to remind readers that 'we have nothing to prove' because in finding Jesus we understand who we really are, and how we are called to impact the world. While there is nothing earth-shatteringly new about the ideas Allen presents, she combines Biblical teaching with her own insights in a very thought-provoking manner, and I really enjoyed, and was inspired by this book.

Love this book. It's so practical and I value that Jennie doesn't write from perspective of having it all sorted - this is about her journey too.
I was challenged by the activities at the end of each part and am looking forward to gathering with some close friends to chat around the firepit.
This book lead to some great discussions at our book group and if it leads the way to knowing more about Jesus and the life he calls us to lead then that's got to be a good thing.
