I was a bit confused about this book. I felt like I was on a roller coaster ride of likes and dislikes. The reason for my conundrum is the fact I was having trouble with some of the information in the book and then trying to decipher it. Like if I read correctly, the angles are killing the humans left after the rapture, but yet many were thriving in certain communities. My only assumption is that the author meant the humans that live in the cities controlled by Lucifer. That and the fact that at some point it was just downright depressing. However, in the end the likes did win out.
The story takes place about three years after rapture. Nathan, a Demi-Angel, fell from grace after questioning God's orders. Instead of killing those who remain on the earth after rapture, he wants to see if they can be saved. I did enjoy the author’s detailed take of life after the rapture and the world that she built. What people do to survive the remaining years until God reclaims earth.
I really felt for Nathan, and how he perceived his self-worth. That is until Dakota comes along. Dakota in his own right has his own burdens, but feels that Nathan is his shot at redemption. In fact, in the end Nathan feels that Dakota is second chance. Oh, and thank goodness both Nathan and Dakota get their HEA in what is left of their time together on Earth. For everything they went through, they so deserve it.
Side Notes: Regarding how religious the story tends to be, I would say wait until the end of the story and then make your decision. IMO, I feel that the author (towards the end) evened it out.
