C.J. Cherryh throws us right into her eighteenth Foreigner adventure. Bren Cameron, human diplomat for the atevi ruler, has just returned after negotiating a treaty with the alien kyo that has saved his planet which is shared with the atevi and humans. Tabini, aiji ruler of the atevi,, immediately sends Bren to the human settled island to demand that the humans take in human refugees from a space station destroyed by the kyo. Meanwhile, the atevi heir is learning about his roots in a visit to his uncle. Convergence follows the changing circumstances of Bren and the atevi heir. Great plot lines and action. Look forward to more in the next Bren Cameron adventure.

Convergence by C.J. Cherryh
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really hate it when a book just ends in without having a proper ending. This one does just that. Bren is wishing he was home and nothing that has been set up is solved. Book 18 is Bren letting the humans know what the atevi expect and Cajeiri, the atevi heir, learning more about what was expected of him and seeing the power he had even as a child.

Convergence does set up a whole new set of problems for all of the humans and the atevi with Bren again at the heart of the problems and the solutions. Do not start this series here. It is long running and complex. A must read for fans of the series even with the ending that is really not an ending at all. I kept trying to find the next page but there just was not one.

I don't know how she keeps doing it but this book , many books into the series is as fresh , well written and engaging as the first books were! I do however recommend you start the series at the beginning unless you don't mind not understanding some references.
