Good book. Suspenseful with lots of twists and turns. Good plot. I enjoy reading books by this author.
While a fast paced mystery, this novel lacked suspense. Started strong with plenty of red herrings along the way, with bits and pieces of information being dished up slowly until the end when everything unsaid was hastily dumped on the reader. Overall a good read that kept me engaged throughout.
This was a book that I could not put down. The characters were easy to get to know. I was surprised all the way thru and even at the end. I’d think it was one way…then another…then back to the first idea. I cried some. It was easy to read. No errors that I could find to distract me from the story line. I will be reading more from David Bell.
Bill Price has not had it easy-his wife died about a year ago and his daughter Summer disappeared with her firend Haley only to be found beaten and half dead in the park, Haley dead beside her. As time goes by, Bill keeps vigil at her bedside in the hospital, only to find out that the girl in the bed is not Summer-it is her friend Haley. His life really unravels, and through his sister Paige and some of Summer's friends, he realizes there is a lot he doesn't know about his daughter's life. If he can piece it all together, he feels he will be able to find out what happened to her.
Bill Price receives that call that no parent wants to receive – from the police to come to the hospital about his daughter, Summer. This is a story of a father’s love and despair over what has happened to his daughter. I found it very insightful about relationships within the family and the community. It’s a fast paced and suspenseful story that deals with how the past can affect the present. With all the twists and turns of this story, I couldn’t put it down!
Two teenage girls go for a walk and are reported missing. After two days one is found dead and the other severely beaten almost beyond recognition in the woods. Bill Price, the father of one of the girls is on a mission to find out what happened during those two days and who kept the girls captive.
It is very difficult to say anything more about the plot without giving the story away. This book is full of twists and turns. It started out real great and kept me engrossed trying to guess what actually happened. There were a few discrepancies in the book like for some reason instead of reporting to the police everybody keeps talking to Bill Price. But overall a fun and fast read and will look forward to reading more by David Bell.
Many thanks to the publisher & NetGalley for this advance reader copy in exchange for my honest and fair review.

This is a suspenseful mystery that grabbed my attention from the first chapter. I have previously read Somebody I Used To Know and Since She Went Away, both of which were excellent novels, so I was expecting another good read. I definitely wasn't disappointed. David Bell is just so readable. His writing draws the reader in and keeps the reader's attention. The book is not overly descriptive with paragraph after paragraph of unrelated details that can be skimmed; you won't want to miss one word of this book! There aren't a lot of books that I would say I couldn't put down, but this is truly one of them.
Bill Price's fifteen-year-old daughter, Summer, and her friend, Haley, have disappeared. They are finally found several days later; Haley is dead, and Summer has been beaten beyond recognition. What follows is Bill's quest to find out what happened to the girls on that fateful night. Most authors provide only one twist at the end, but David Bell surprises the reader throughout the novel with unexpected twist after twist. By the end of the novel, the reader finds out what actually happened when Summer and Haley disappeared as well as discovering long-buried secrets involving the death of Bill's wife.
I wanted to rush through the book, but at the same time didn't want it to end. I found myself reading chapter after chapter and suddenly realizing that I had spent several hours reading without even realizing it. I plan to read David Bell's earlier novels as well as follow his future publications. I highly recommend this book.
“Bring Her Home” is a new thriller from David J. Bell. The book details the tragic disappearance of Bill Price’s 15-year-old daughter and his desperate search for both her and her abductor.
Bell nicely develops all of the characters that make this is a novel you won’t want to put down. It twists and turns, leads you in one direction and then flips you 180 degrees as you chase a new set of clues and leads.
I found myself wanting to read “just one more chapter” each of the four days it took me to read “Bring Her Home.” If you’re searching for a book to immerse yourself in, David Bell’s latest offering is just what you are looking for.
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me a complimentary e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
Fantastic! Outstanding! Where do I start?
Summer and her friend Hailey go out one evening as most teenage best friends do. Just one problem- they don't come home. 2 days later the police find 2 girls savagely beaten beyond recognition. One alive and one dead.
Now Bill Price, father of one of the missing girls is turning over every stone to find the reason behind the beating and murder.
Unfortunately, I can't get any deeper into the plot without giving too much away. I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Just know there are shocking twists at every turn. Moments that make you go...Are you kidding me??!! It will keep you constantly guessing. Me? Well I never saw it coming. It's just that good!
Short chapters that just fly by. I kept telling myself ok, just 1 more chapter .Ha...Not a chance! Could not, would not put it down!
And that book cover? Gorgeous! All-around winner! I absolutely recommend to all thriller fans!
Thank you to Netgalley, Berkley Publishing Group and David Bell for the ARC to review.
This book will get you right in the feels, plus the mind bending twists and turns will keep your head spinning. I adored David Bell's Bring Her Home and I truly think that you will too.
Bill lost his wife over a year ago, and with her birthday coming up, things have been difficult between him and his 15 year old daughter Summer. When Summer and her best friend Haley come up missing, Bill can't seem to stop hunting, searching, and trying to delve into the depths of what Summer could have been up to, and where she could have gone. Then he gets a call that he won't ever forget, Summer has been found and she's in the hospital. She's beaten pretty badly, but she's breathing. He rushes to her side, and doesn't move for days. Then, when Summer starts to say "no no no no no" when he tells her that he's there, he gets a strange feeling, which is only confirmed by his sister, Paige, the girl in the bed isn't Summer, it's Haley, who they thought was dead.
Given this new piece of information, Bill has to give up his hope, that Summer is alive, but now he must wait until Haley is healed so that he can find out what really happened to the girls, and get to the bottom of what Summer has been up to. But then another bombshell shakes his world up more than he can ever imagine.
Even though this book seemed a little long at some points, the twists kept coming, which made it page turning and made me eager for more. I really enjoyed learning about Summer's life, and the repercussions of Bill's actions. He is a man that will stop at nothing to get answers for his daughter and for himself. I give this book 4 out of 5 stars, although toward the end it got a little far fetched for me, the intrigue is still there. I received this book from Netgalley.
There are some excellent plot twists in this suspenseful novel; however, I just couldn't seem to get past the fact that two sets of parents were unable to definitively identify the one dead body found. I understand that both missing girls -- one dead, the other disappeared -- looked very much like sisters, sharing the same hair color, eye color, general physique, etc. Still, I found it completely unbelievable that (1) the parents were so confused about identity, (2) that questions couldn't be (with today's technology and under the circumstances) easily put to rest with an expedited DNA test, and (3) both sets of parents seemed unwilling or unable to wait for those DNA results before flying off the handle, falling to pieces, and/or lashing out at any and all people trying to help. Because of this (IMHO) massive hair in my figurative salad, I just couldn't seem to connect with any of the characters on an emotional level, which shouldn't have been hard to do given the premise of the tale. Can't really recommend. .
Two teen age girls are found in the woods beaten badly, one dead, one barely alive. A father is notified and spends all his time with the girl in the hospital. He then discovers she is not his daughter, but her best friend. I won't go any further into the plot because of spoilers, but this is a complex and well written odyssey of a man's search for his child and the person or persons who took her. It involves murder, abuse and is a psychological and procedural thriller that will captivate most readers. Thanks to Net Galley and Berkeley for an ARC for an honest review.
Normally I avoid thrillers and whodunnits, not because I can’t “go there” emotionally but because the tropes and plot twists tend to be predictable, lame, contrived, or dependent on the protagonist doing something unbelievably, implausibly stupid.
This one drew me in because of two missing teenage girls, one found dead, one alive, and the father’s mission to solve a case that police could not. Sure enough, it’s the dad who finds out whodunit. He almost gets himself killed, and he almost kills the suspect before hearing what he needs to hear.
My least favorite trope: a protagonist goes off to confront a perp, without telling anyone else first where they're going, as if the perp will listen and convince the protagonist of his/her innocence, or confess and head off to prison, or say "Let's just keep this our little secret," and no harm comes to the protagonist.
David Bell writes well and knows how to keep readers turning pages. The dirty secrets of high school teenagers are eye-opening and just sad. The characters are hard to like, except for Paige, but no matter what, nobody deserves to be beaten and killed or left dying in the cold.
At times I started skimming and telling myself not to jump ahead to the ending. Now I wish I’d done just that. As other reviewers have pointed out, the ending is not much of a surprise. There are red herrings along the way, leading the reader to rule out who did what to whom, but seeing the pieces of the puzzle come together for Bill, the widowed father on a mission to find his 15-year-old daughter, puts the book at a level that's well above the daily crossword puzzle but far short of Dostoevsky.
Thank you Netgalley, and Berkley Pub for approving me to read and review this book, in exchange of an honest review. From now on, I’ll avoid whodunnits. Four thrillers in a row didn’t thrill me, in part because they live up to expectations of a genre that relies more on plot than character, and when the characters do ring true, they’re not merely flawed (which is a good thing, in literature) but so messed up, I wish I hadn’t spent hours of my life in their heads.
But don't listen to me. This author is a famous, best-selling writer, because millions of people buy and love books like these. I've just read too many other genres and too many classics that will stay with me longer than this sort of story does.
This story pulled me in right when I started reading. A few girls were missing, one found dead, beaten to death and a second still alive although severely beaten. The father, single since the death of his wife a year and a half earlier, tries to do everything for his daughter, the girl found alive. The twists and turns are amazing,as what we think is happening changes completely. I do not want to give away what happens, it is too awesome when you read it! Just pick up this book to read, the story will pull you along like a run away train. I received a copy of an arc from Netgalley, the author David Bell and publisher Berkley Pub,thanks very much for giving me the chance to read this outstanding story!
BRING HER HOME by David Bell. The story grabs you from the first, with Bill losing his wife 1 1/2 years ago. To now his 15 year year old daughter in critical condition, in hospital. So beaten, is it Summer, her best friend Haley didn't make it. They didn't drive yet, had friends that were boys, but no one special. The secrets the living and the dead had. Bill goes to were homeless people are, by chance he finds a bracket, that once belong to Summer's mother. Bill questions, was it really his daughter, and trying to figure out, who could do such a ghastly crime. The questions aren't answered till the end, story moves along at a good pace. Good thriller, another good story by David .Bell. Given ARC by Net Galley for my voluntary review and ,my honest opinion.
This was a good, but not great read. The main character bordered on unbelievable in his actions as half crazed father of a missing daughter. However, the book had some interesting twists and although I thought I had the culprit figured out, I was only partially correct. So, kudos to the author for keeping me guessing until the end.
Bring Her Home is an amazing thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I read this way too late into the night because I couldn't stop reading it! There are so many twists in this book, you won't know what to expect. I love books that keep you guessing and aren't predictable. The characters in Bring Her Home are very well written as is the plotline. If you are a fan of suspenseful thrillers, you need to read Bring Her Home!
I rated this book 3/5 stars which to me is still a good book. I enjoyed the story and it kept me guessing (huge plus for me). I did feel as though we were just thrown a bunch of information at the end to kind of sum everything up and just be done. I am a fan of the other David Bell work I've read before and this one is the same. An enjoyable mystery!
This is by far the best mystery I have read in a while. He really takes you on the ride with dad Bill as he tries to find out what happened to his daughter Summer. I read this in one day. Could not put it down until I was finished. Highly recommend this book and this author!
This is a story about three girls who go missing. I don't want to ruin the story, by giving any details, in the event anyone wants to read it.The main character, Bill, was supposed to be a dad you felt sorry for, because his daughter was missing. I, however, found him totally unsympathetic as a character. I also found several inconsistencies throughout the story, which really bothered me. I'm not sure if this was simply poor editing, but certainly the author deserves the lions share of the blame for this. While the storyline did hold my interest, it got too convoluted, when it turned out there were multiple "bad guys" and the stories were not actually connected.
