David Bell is a great author who has a strong repertoire of work to back up his writing talent. In this book, he continues to show off those skills with a twisting plot and a mysterious story line of what happened to two teenage girls.

The story moves very slowly and drops breadcrumbs of hints along the way to a satisfying conclusion. There are some obvious plot points that you should see coming a mile away and if you read enough mysteries you won’t be overly shocked at who the villain turns out to be because Bell provides some pretty strong indications early on. However that doesn’t mean you still shouldn’t give this book a shot because it becomes more about how he is going to unwind the story. He drops so many clues throughout that SOMETHING bad happened your attention is hooked through the end so you can find out what and why even if you already know the who. The last clues to the motivation of the crime won’t even be revealed until nearly the end so make sure to stick with it to get the whole picture.

It reminded me of some episodes I had seen in CSI or CSI Criminal Intent where you know who did it right when the episode started but the motivation is strung out through the episode. Those worked because it’s basic human nature to want to know the why; we aren’t content with just hearing that someone died and someone killed them. That is the crux in a jury trial and what lawyers are always trying to convey to the jury in order to free their client or punish the alleged criminal – juries need to know WHY it was done in order to make a decision of innocence or guilt. If you keep that in mind when you read this book, even if you discover the who early on, then your attention won’t waver as your need to discover the why clicks in.

Bell’s character development is thorough as you’ll both hate and emphasize with the characters throughout the story depending upon the scenes, settings and how much information you’ve garnered about them. It’s easy to think that any of us would behave differently in similar circumstances, a point the father Bill even brings up to a detective, reminding us until you’re actually going through those emotions it’s best not to judge. If you’re a parent, get ready for some of your worst fears to be brought to the surface.

His writing flows so well you’ll find yourself flipping through chapters without realizing how far you’ve read in your quest to discover the answers. It doesn’t help that nearly every chapter has cliffhanger like qualities at its conclusion forcing you to keep reading because no one likes to stop when new information has just been dangled in front of their attention span like meat before a dog.

Get ready to set some time aside so you can binge your way through this and discover how evil humanity can become when it feels threatened.

BRING HER HOME is David Bell's newest mystery thriller and I happily locked myself away with my advance copy sent to me by Berkeley Publishing Group.

David Bell is known for writing slow paced, extremely descriptive rather long novels. This allows the reader to really get to know the characters and attempt to solve the mystery along with the characters. We get to know the people intimately and feel what they are feeling.

BRING HER HOME is the story of a father of a teenage girl who has gone missing with her best friend. He lost his wife the previous year and still hasn't recovered from her loss. The twists and turns in this novel are amazing. Bell quite simply outdid himself.

I liked it. It was an easy story to figure out but I still didn't want to put it down. I would read more books by this author.

Anyone who has read my blog, or follows me on Instagram, Knows that David Bell is one of my favorite author's and most recommended as well. I have read and own every book he has written. That being said, this is his best book, to date.

My heart is still pounding, and not just from the ending, but from the entire book. From start to finish, this book takes you on a ride. Your heart hurts reading it, you will think you have it figured out, you will think you know what happened to Summer and Haley, think again.

This is the kind of book that sticks with you, you will remember this book, and you will tell your friends to read it. You will be drawn in, and you will feel yourself fighting right alongside Bill, to get answers. As a parent, this book touches on one of my worst fears, and it will yours too.

I've been a fan of the author since his debut and have read either all or all but one of his books. He started off so promisingly, but then seems to have discovered a trade formula and went with that. Which is reasonably and works for some, so long as the quality is maintained, which hasn't quite been the case for Bell consistently. This one, specifically, comes across phoned in. From the utterly generic title to the twist so predictable and suspect revealed so early on...it just seems somewhat lazy. Set entirely in one timeline, this one doesn't even try to do the secrets from the past part of the formula, it's pretty straight forward a murder/possible murder/kidnapping sort of story as one father frantically plays detective to find his teenage daughter. The story might have been so easily improved upon had Bell took the time to actually create a mystery that is, you know, mysterious. Or create a stronger more believable antagonist. The book reads well enough, the author is by now competent enough to create a fast paced domestic thriller in his sleep, probably, but the lack of suspense (so freaking obvious) or any sort of originality doesn't make it a particularly thrilling one. Fast read, entertaining enough minus the insult to intelligence, but a disappointing one for an author who can and has done more. Genre fans might enjoy this with expectations adjusted sufficiently. Two battered teenagers were found in the woods. One dead. One in a coma. Bill, relieved that Summer didn't suffer the same fate as her best friend Haley, wants the perpetrators caught. Then another teen is revealed to be missing. Suddenly everyone is suspect and Bill is ready to beat the answers out if anyone who may know something.

BRING HER HOME started off slowly with an obvious plot twist that I hoped wasn't the end of the story. Fortunately, after that non-mystery was revealed a third of the way into the book, David Bell had me hooked. I NEEDED to know the fate of the girls.

Bill isn't the most likable guy, but he is sympathetic. Still reeling from his wife's accidental death eighteen months earlier, he can't lose Summer too. He continually allowed emotion to thwart his efforts for answers, but who knows how anyone would react in such a situation.

I've read several of Bell's previous novels, and BRING HER HOME is my favorite. I loved the multidimensional layers of resolution to the mysteries and the surprises about who did what and why.

I wish Bell had made the first section less obvious, the book blurb didn't help. Still, I strongly recommend BRING HER HOME for mystery lovers.

Breathtaking new thriller, one sees those words many times when reading synopsis of new books and one says “Oh yeah, bet it doesn't live up to all the hype”. OMGoodness, I could not put the book down. The characters were all so reliable, you could feel their sorrow and pain and anger and guilt and love. The chapters just flowed into another and I just had to know what would happen next. I don't know how Mr. Bell kept up the pace. Each of the chapters seemed to end with a cliffhanger. Every time I thought I knew where the story was going, it went another way. All the clues were there but they had a different meaning than I thought. However, everything came together in the end.

Definitely recommend this book and I will be looking for Mr. Bell's backlist and future books.
