Novels about the struggles of lesbians during this conflict are quite scarce, especially when describing a romance between individuals who supported different fronts and yet, were able to establish a relationship. The tragedy of the time, from the physical destruction that was wrought on the land to the devastating loss of life, was well-captured and corresponded well with the immediate quality of the affection that burst forth between Wil and Clara. I found the ending to be quite satisfying and this one of Ms. Wallace's more successful recent publications.
