Unsure why i left it so long to read. Will be reading more from this author
This is one of hose books where everything is good. The characters are good, the plot is done well, the writing is enjoyable and easy to read and it's justo an overall good reading experience.
It's nothing special, it's nothing world changing and one of those books that leave you in aw of what you just read, but it's a lovely dual time line family story tat takes you into their world and that was wonderful.
If you want a good book, with a nice family story and a great eating? Pick this one.
Fans of the dual time line family saga will enjoy this one. Add in the exotic locales and you've got the sort of novel that can transport you for a bit. A good read.
Really lovely thought provoking story by Corina Bomann, my first of hers. Great plot, great characters. Just a lovely easy read.
An entertaining read which takes some time to get into the story; the pace is a bit slower than what I am used to it. But the story on the whole is interesting and the descriptions of the plantations are great.
The plot has enough twists to keep the interest of the reader, and the characters are well developed. But there are many and their connections are confusing.
In totality, the book is a wholesome family story going back into time to discover the secrets..
The Orphan of India is an interesting look into the life of a young girl in India who is adopted and the life she lives. This story will touch your heart and make encourage you to follow your heart.
I really enjoyed this book. The writing was beautiful and just sucked me in. First, I am a sucker for books that alternate between contemporary time and a time in the past...where someone is trying to unravel a mystery. This would be good for fans of Susanna Kearsley or Kate Morton. We get to travel between Germany, to England, to Sri Lanka to unravel the mystery surrounding a devastating family secret that leaves one sister and her line disinherited. It wasn't difficult to uncover the twists and turns of the secret or even the secret itself, but the story was so engaging, I didn't care. It unfolded in a wonderful way. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to review this story and would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be transported to another time and place. The author did a beautiful job of bringing the various settings to life.
I received a copy of this title from Netgalley in exchange for an honest opinion
I felt this book to be inspiring! The plot was gracefully made and the characters were superb! Great book!
I received this ARC from netgalley.com in exchange for a review.
In trying to unravel a family history/mystery, Diana travels from her home in Germany to her family estates in England and India.
I recently read The Moonlit Garden and this book is that book with the character's names changed. The story is basically the same. While I like the authors writing and the translating from German to English is smooth, I felt I had already read the story. This book was like a déjà vu for me.

A wonderful reading experience. This is a rich multi layered sweeping story that takes the reader to 1940's and present day. It is multi-generational and each generations story is told with wonderful characters as the plot delves into a mystery . The author's rich descriptions take the reader along in Europe to India and to London.
Ancient tea customs and beautiful plantations are part of most enjoyable part of this book. The Butterfly will enter into the novel later as each part of the plot is reveled .
I loved this book and found it very entertaining to read.
Thank you for the ARC which did not influence my opinion.
This book was first published in 2012 and has now been translated from German and is available in the US. Diana rushes to her Great Aunt's deathbed and is given the task of finding out the family's secrets hidden in the past. She is given the first clue when the aunt dies and she travels around Europe and Ceylon. She uncovers over 100 years of family history. The chapters are alternating time frames and labeled to help you keep the various story lines. Many readers will enjoy the genealogy search that Diana unravels with the help of historian Jonathan. This story translated well and the history is fascinating.
When Diana receives a phone call to say that her Great Aunt Emily has had a stroke and wants to see her as soon as possible she drops everything in her home in Berlin, including her cheating husband, and rushes to England to see Emily.
Emily tells Diana of a wrong that was done many years ago to Diana's Great Grandmother Grace by her sister Violet and she says it is time for the full story to come out and wrongs to be righted but that Diana will have to go on a voyage of discovery to find the truth - with just a few clues to guide her.
Intrigued Diana takes leave from work and finds that the clues lead her to Sri Lanka and a tea plantation that the Tremayne family used to own and with the help of Jonathan Singh she starts to unearth the secrets of the past
A great book with a mixture of history, intrigue and romance - I loved the descriptions of Sri Lanka, a country I have visited a couple of times and so can visualise the fantastic scenery of the tea plantation area, a lovely family saga well worth reading
Thank you NetGalley for the wonderful book- Butterfly Island by Corina Bomann. This story is about self exploration through the unavailing of family history as well as family secrets spanning from England, to Sri Lanka and Germany. Interesting and cleverly written, as the layers of the scandal unfold.
Butterfly Island was the perfect Summer mystery. Bowmann did an excellent job of maintaining the suspense while interweaving the character's stories. The mystery had twists and turns throughout two era's of history. A must-read.
I was drawn to the design of the cover but the story is excellent, so mysterious & intriguing, written with such a great voice. I'll be telling everyone about this book!
Diana answers the death-bed plea from her great-aunt to restore their family’s honor by righting a decades old wrong. The quest give Diana a chance to leave her cheating husband behind in Germany as she ventures from England to a tea plantation is Sri Lanka. With the help of local writer, Jonathan Singh, Diana uncovers the story of her great, great grandmother Grace Tremayne and her sad and tragic past in colonial Ceylon. I loved this story, the best part was about Grace and the beautiful, savage life she lived in Ceylon
