It's like getting additional episodes of the series. Looks and feels exactly like the tone of the show. Plus more Meeseeks!

Funny, fantastic art work and (for once) a great tv tie-in. An Absolute must for fans of the show.

Almost three stars – while some of the stories were actually OK, there was still a tendency to be stupid and not funny. I liked the title characters more than I did when I first met them in Lil' Poopy Superstar, tho. Oh, and next time, quit with the splitting the file just to get more traffic.

I haven't read any of the other volumes of the Rick and Morty comics, but I have seen the show so when I saw this volume on NetGalley I decided I would give it a try. I'll definitely check out the other volumes of the series because this was great. I like how all the issues are self contained stories because it makes them seem like they're just episodes of the show. Also the writing is great and everyone is really in character. They really translated Rick's speaking voice well into a written format so it's easy to read all his dialogue in his voice which is definitely one of my favorite parts. Love this show and now the comics too!

This is a must read for all die-hard Rick & Morty fans. The comic books perfectly encapsulate the humor of the show, and the authors pull no punches! Highly, HIGHLY recommend these books.

I’ve read one graphic novel in this universe, though at a bit of a tangent to this one, so I like Summer and I’m glad there’s no walking talking poo this time. Other than that I didn’t know much about this, and had no idea Grandpa Scientist was going to be such an ass; he’s like Back to the Future’s Doc Brown without a soul, or any type of morals.
There are no punches pulled here. At one point they club baby seals. One character is described as “why women walk around with keys between their fingers.” Then there’s the robobros, as though human bros aren’t bad enough. And the cops: “Well, we zipped this case up. Let’s do zero more investigating nor consider any other suspect.”
“The vanquishing of my enemies has engorged my genitals with blood!” Means a lot more coming from a woman. And you should always wear a sexy outfit when you friend-zone an alien who thinks he’s hot stuff.
So there’s plenty of funny moments, but not enough to justify the words they bandy about in their publicity blurbs. Every page I think it’s not possible to hate Rick more, but he’s definitely a go-getter in that category. I think the creator uses this comic to get all the stuff out of his head that he can’t say on his TV shows.

Having recently binged on the first series of the hilarious, scabrous cartoon about a drunk mad scientist and his schmuck grandson, I thought I might as well take a look at the comics tie-in, because the quality of such things is way up these days. Part of which lies in hiring the right talent, and they've excelled here; Sexcastle's Kyle Starks writes most of this, with art largely by Marc Ellerby, both of whom are perfect fits for the show's smart-dumb, cartoon-grotesque feel. The main story fits in piss-takes of both Doctor Who and Breaking Bad, plus a gun which shoots bees; one of the shorts even manages to find a use for idiot paterfamilias Jerry. Well, almost. If you're jonesing for more of the show, this should certainly tide you over, and what sentiment could be more Rick than that?

I love Rick and Morty and this was an awesome way to spend an afternoon in the long drought between new seasons. The art was great and the dialogue was spot on. I read the whole thing in the voices of the characters.

Just like watching an episode of Rick & Morty! The dialogue was spot on, full of humour and perfect characterisation. Definitely a great way to spend the time until Season 2.

'Rick and Morty Vol. 4' was something I read because I know little to nothing about this animated series. I've seen the characters, but I don't have cable and I haven't tried to look them up online. It's funny if a bit weird and crude.

In this volume, Morty convinces his grandfather Rick to use his powers for good and create medicine that will benefit the world. This means killing a flying creature that is the last of its kind. This also turns Rick into a very wanted drug lord. How he gets out of this is pretty funny. Also, Morty wants to be muscular and Rick does it, but warns about the side effects, which turn out to be pretty gross.

I don't know how true these feel to the series, but since the creators are linked to the book, I have to imagine that they are. Over the issues included in this volume, the art style varies a bit, but it's passable. There are bonus short stories included. I have another one of these to read, but I don't know if I'm a fan yet.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Oni Press, Diamond Book Distributors, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

"If I'm being too vague, I'm talking about your penis here."

Are you missing Rick and Morty? Can you believe it has been 1 year, 4 months, and 9 days since the cliffhanger of Season 2? Can you believe we still have a month to wait for Season 3?

Well this collection of short adventures will tide you over. So many of these stories feel like lost episodes that we missed out on. It's a Ricklicious fix. Rick and Morty fans will enjoy this collection no end.

I received a digital copy of this collection ahead of release in exchange for an honest review, focussed on science.

For Rick & Morty fans only. This is an acquired taste. I don't know why, but this graphic novel felt overly wordy. In the cartoon you don't notice the verbiage overload, but when it is typed out, the dialog is too much. Typically gross, Morty, his grampa, and Summer go to a planet to harvest what look like baby seals and meet a shady space traveler and his Brienne of Tarth. Havoc ensues.
There is a second adventure also. .

What starts as a predictable tale of Rick taking advantage of Morty, whilst Summer moans and Jerry is emasculated, actually got pretty great. It's consistently funny; possibly more so if you're a fan of the TV series and have read the previous comics. Setting Summer up to have her own adventures (with a creepy Dr Who wannabe) is a breath of fresh air, and I'm looking forward to seeing how that pans out.
Even though it's the first of three parts the story actually wraps itself up neatly. Of course I'm moving immediately on to the next part, but the story here is complete.

If you watch Adult Swim's Rick & Morty, you will love this comic as well! The storylines were hilarious and fun to read. I also liked the shorts at the end. They were really cute. And the comic is a good reread or two. Rick and Morty are a blast! It was a great read!

Also Fun for the Newbie or the Casual Fan

This is the fourth volume in the Rick & Morty series. It's a comic book version of the Adult Swim animated series. Now, I'm a casual viewer of that show, but picked this up as something of a lark. I got a kick out of it.

Serious fans argue about whether this series is as good as the show. (The general consensus seems to be "not quite".) There is less disagreement about whether it at least captures the overall feel of the show. (There, the consensus seems to be "yeah, pretty much".) I don't really have a horse in that race, so the following is intended more for posers and newbies like me.

Rick is the genius scientist with a crusty exterior that hides a heart of stone. He is deadpan funny in a burnt out, sarcastic and refreshingly sour way. He's edgy, grumpy, and often hilariously on point. Morty is his grandson, his reluctant assistant, his foil and his conscience. Every now and then he lands a zinger that brings Rick up short, and it is partly that constantly shifting double act that gives the series its edge. There are other family members and so on, but they are mostly bit players. The stars are, as the title declares, Rick and Morty.

The plots are nutty professor sci-fi, but peppered with Rick's anti-social and sometimes criminal schemes. Basically, there are three big arcs, a one-shot, and some bonus shorts. Sometimes our guys win and sometimes they lose; sometimes they learn a lesson and sometimes they don't. For any particular episode you don't know if crime is going to pay or not. But none of that matters very much because all of the fun is just in watching our two heroes meander from point A to point B, wherever they may be.

I've generally been disappointed by the book spinoffs of animated comedy shows. They usually get the characters' drawn right, (I mean they are drawn in the shows), but they rarely get the spirit of the shows or the humor or the timing. Indeed, if you don't know the show you can go through an entire comic and just wonder what all the fuss was about. (This goes for YouTube sensation spin-offs, too.) Well, this one was different. It's funny and engaging and entertaining on its own. For that reason alone this is a nice newbie find and I'm glad I took a chance.

(Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. Apart from that I have no connection at all to either the author or the publisher of this book.)
