I'm going to comment on the Renegade characters in this GN as they are a fabulous bunch. They really stood out from most superhero teams I've seen with different sexuality and ethnicity. Comics are a great place to showcase this visually and we need diverse characters.
We have ethnic representation from across the board. Caucasian, Asian, African American.. Plus we have 1 current and 1 previous lgtb couple. And when I thought it couldn't get better there are many different body types and sizes in this. This is like a trifecta of diverse characters here.
I am thrilled many people are represented but I am ecstatic about the body types and sizes and that is my major complaint from students. There are always few students who always complain that their are not enough diverse body types or bigger sized characters in books, especially as a main character. Most bigger sized characters are portrayed as class clowns, bullies or slobs with no self esteem who have to change themselves (and their size) to be a "better" person. They are always written in negative or compensating ways. I am so glad not to see this here.
Faith is a strong character. She has a good heart and fights for what she believes in. I appreciate that she is simply pretty. Most women are overly sexualized and drawn as "top physique". Not everyone looks that way.
Faith looks like a regular girl. Not overly beautiful, not overly ugly, just a normal representation of a girl. More female characters should be drawn simply pretty. Whoever created Faiths appearance did a great job as she looks exactly like one of my beautiful students. I am sure she will see the similarities and smile as she is always looking for characters that represent her in fiction and pop culture.
I would recommend this to anyone who likes save the world sci-fi, diverse characters and fans of X-Men.

Another fast paced adventure from the Valiant universe finds the Harbinger Renegades coping with life after their last battle but are they really coping?
Peter has disappeared, Faith is trying to hold her own, Torque has become a waning celebrity and Kris is trying to piece her life back together after a stint in prison.
But a new enemy is rising. Latent psiots are dying due to botched activations and the authorities are unable to explain the appearance of young dead people. Faith feels responsible for this after all they were the ones who published Harada's list of latent psiots, thereby putting these young, often naive people at the risk of exploitation and some one is out to do exactly that.
Can the Renegades overcome their personal difficulties and challenges and reunite in order to fight this new unknown enemy?
One again we have an adventure with these flawed heroes who are now somewhat broken and much more mature. When Torque is beaten up this sends a message to the group that there is a new player in town and it is going to take them working together to find out who is killing young latent psiots.
I enjoy the Valiant universe and this series. I thought the artwork was a bit dark compared to the earlier comics in this series but once again it makes a great addition to the Valiant world. I do hope this story will be different and not filled with echoes of the last series, with similar bad guys.
In summary if you like the Renegades you will not be disappointed with this.

I want to read more of this right now. As soon as possible. This is brilliantly written superhero team with a great found family dynamic, gorgeous representation, and real life problems. The art is really well done, it feels comfortingly familiar, but has moments of surprising beauty. I loved Faith coming into this book, I read Faith Vol. 1 Hollywood and Vine a few months ago. I still love her, I want more stories with Faith, she's hilarious, and noble, and the kind of superhero we need right now. Peter is also fascinating, I loved the contrast between his vulnerability and his power. Kris + Tamara are so sweet I just want a whole series of just the two of them.
The action was crazy intense in this book but without losing it's heart.
I just want to read more of it.
An interesting twist, reminds me of the beginning of the X-Men. Incredibly diverse in themes and characters with great art to boot. Will certainly be checking out future episodes.
Finally a group of heroes that do not look like the typical heroes and are plagued with real life problems--drugs, jail, even reality tv. Six months before, the heroes blew the whistle about people with special psionic powers and released a list of names with the potential to develop these special powers. The Harbinger Renegade group is collecting the teenagers on the list and trying to force an activation of those powers. Deaths rapidly pile up and the original whistle blowers must team up to try and protect the teens on the list they originally released. Beautifully drawn with eye catching colors, the first three issues in the volume are rich in dialect and nice eye candy. In the fourth issue things literally become black and white and lose the dialect and leave a feeling of incompleteness to the book. Still, the volume is enjoyable with a rich story and nice art. My review is based upon a review copy from Netgalley.
Thanks to netgalley.com, Rafer Roberts and Diamond Book Distributors for the advance PDF ARC for my honest review.
The cool thing with netgalley.com, you have so many genres to explore at your finger tips, and so glad that I started reading and exploring graphic novels. I do like the change of pace from a traditional book, discovered that I seem to like the supernatural stuff the better in this format.
I remember flipping through one of the Valiant Harbinger releases back in '90's at a now defunct Books-A-Million store and saw this listed as a read now. So figured why not give it a try.
While it was hard to know the real storyline to follow for me, but it was good enough to make me want to read more prior to this one and the only down thing with this that the story isn't finished in the end.
