Written by Dr. John Andrews, commissioned by the Osho Intl. Foundation, netgalley version.

Ridiculous ideas in the book:

- Leave baggage on a train station. trust a complete stranger. (yeah, sure dude!)
- Tokai (some Zen master) was a visitor at a certain temple, while asleep a fire started under the kitchen floor - his reply, "wake me up when it reaches the passage." (dumbest guy ever, impractical advice to convince someone in the here and now, present)
- Love is food, and trust has higher potency than love. (Food is food. There is no substitute for food and water)
- So when I say, existence takes care, I am not talking philosophy. Philosophy is mostly nonsense. I am simply talking an actual fact, that oxygen and carbon dioxide exist, you breathe and someone else is taking care of the two items. (follows it up with a weird inappropriate and possibly homophobic joke): 3 friends are chatting about their sons: ‘Mine is a famous doctor in NY who owns a building at park avenue’, ‘Mine is a lawyer and owns 2 buildings on 5th avenue.’ Third one says, ‘you should both be proud to have successful sons. My boy is a homosexual.’ The other two console her and ask ‘and what does he do?’ she says ‘Nothing, he has 2 friends: one is a doctor who owns an apt. bldg in park avenue and the other one is a lawyer who owns 2 apartment buildings.’
- 40 acre Osho International Meditation Resort in Pune, India to fix / heal / guide you (another thing animals don't have: money. Osho - aka Chandra Mohan Jain / Rajneesh - educated on being a combo of Zorba the Greek and Gautama Buddha. It figures)

Memorable lines:

- Food, water, air , energy and valuable materials are all around us. You have been invited to what may be the most amazing play in the whole universe, called Life, surrounded by abundance. So what’s the problem: why is ‘trust’ even an issue? As Osho puts it, “Why can’t you trust? The whole existence trusts. Trees never go neurotics, birds and animals never go psychotic......”
So what’s going on? We are the most blessed of creatures - who react to this amazing gift from existence by wasting vast amounts of energy attacking ourselves, each other and this beautiful planet in a way no other life form does.

- No other animal has been given the gift of being free. All have a fixed program. Man is not programmed.

- Trust is a rapport.

- “Once you start feeling this tremendous respect and love and trust of the whole in you, you will start growing roots into your being. You will trust yourself. And only then can you trust me. Only then can you trust your friends, your children, your husband, your wife.”

- “Man is always in crisis. Man is crisis - constant. It is not accidental, it is essential. Man is the only animal who is not born complete, who is not born closed - who is not born like a thing, who is born like a process. Man is open. His being consists in becoming - that os the crisis. The more he becomes, the more he is.”

- The past decides when you decide a destination. Your experience of the past, your knowledge of the past decides. You kill the future. Then you go on repeating your own past.

- Zen master, Rinzai was on his death bed, his disciples asked him ‘Master, people will ask after you are gone, what was your essential teaching?’ He roared, said ‘this is it’, closed his eyes and died.

- Rather than giving a child answer, give him situations and challenges so that his intelligence is sharpened and he asks more deeply. but that is not allowed. Parents are very much afraid, the society is very much afraid. Who knows what will happen when they become intelligent on their own? They will not be within your control. This society goes into deeper and deeper politics to control everybody, to possess everybody’s soul. That’s why the 1st thing they have to do is to destroy trust - the trust of the child in himself, the confidence of the child in himself. They have to make him shaky and afraid. Once he is trembling, he is controllable. If he is confident, he is uncontrollable, he will assert himself, he will try to do his own thing, he will never be an imitator, he will never be a dull and dead person. Destroy his trust and you have taken his power. Now he will always be in need for somebody else to dominate, direct, and command him. Now, he will be a good soldier, a good citizen, a good nationalist, a good Christian/ Mohammedan / Hindu. He will not be a real individual. He will not have any roots; he will be uprooted his whole life.

- anecdote: 3 surgeons are friends, meet on holiday, and discuss what they have lately:
one friend says I got a guy with no legs, gave him legs, he is now the greatest runner
second friend says, that’s nothing, a woman with no face, fixed it, she's now a beauty queen
third one says, a man with no head, replaced it with cabbage, he's now the prime minister of india.

- In fact it is more difficult to become successful with intelligence, because the intelligent person is inventive. He is always ahead of his time; it takes time to understand him.

- To escape from doubt is to escape from inquiry. Doubt is your friend. Faith is afraid of doubt - because it has repressed it. All the so-called religions exist in your guilt, they don’t exist on the existence of God. They have nothing to do with God, and God has nothing to do with them. They exist on your guilt.

- Down the centuries the priest has made people guilty.

- “I trust only in Jesus not in Buddha.” If you trust Buddha, you will trust Krishna and Mohammad, Christ and Zarasthustra. When you bring lamp in the room, the light will not fall only on the table, only on the chair or walls. light simply falls on everything that is there. Trust is a light.

- worthy and unworthy: to live without belief is a great daring.

- All your knowledge is nothing but labeling, naming. If you ask somebody, “Do you know this flower” and he says, “Yes, it is a rose,” what does he know? Just the name. By knowing the name, Do you know rose? By knowing the word God, do you know God? By knowing the word love, do you know love? So when you introduce people to each other you just tell them a name, a country, a race. The person is so vast, so huge, how can you label and know the person by the label? But naming gives a false impression, as if you know.

- You cannot find a better business in the world than religion. You can promise and there is no need to deliver the goods because the goods are invisible.

- The present is you. Past and future are outside of you. Mind is always moving, into the past or the future. It is never in the here and now. Your mind is a false entity because it never knocks in the present. Wherever you live in total awareness, you live moment to moment.

- You have no trust - you plan, you go through a rehearsal.

- All argumentative people basically are people who don’t have good images of themselves. They are very defensive, very touchy. If he has a good image about himself, he listens, even if they are right and he is wrong, he is not worried- he remains good in his eyes.

- Trust does not mean that everything will be all right. Trust means everything is already alright.

- There is nobody torturing you except yourself. There is nobody except yourself; your whole life is your work, your creation.
