Loved reading this book, would deffinitely reccomend to other readers. Great growth and development in both characters and storyline
4 stars
Chelle is not your typical vampire. Turned not with a bite but an age-old magic, she’s the only one of her kind—and more powerful than most. Still adjusting to her endless thirst and lethal fangs, she’s desperate to discover what sets her apart. When she encounters a brutally virile alpha werewolf, she soon learns that she’s not immune to the mating call—and her own primal longing
This was a pretty good read. I’ve read the other books in this series and was looking forward to this one. It didn’t disappoint. I liked both main characters a lot and liked the continuation of the overall arc. I can’t wait to read the next story. I highly recommend.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
Another fantastic read. Again this is another brilliant instalment into the world of the paranormal in which Kate Baxter pulls you along in the world her characters reside. This is book four and Kate Baxter keeps you held captive. What happens when your fated mate is not one of your own kind? Well Gunnar and Chelle are about to find out.

Again this is another brilliant instalment into the world of the paranormal in which Kate Baxter pulls you along in the world her character reside.
Chelle has been in previous books and is Roman Daly's twin sister. She is also a race of vampire all of her own. She is a strong sassy female who has always lived knowing of the paranormal world and had always been a vampire relic hunter, especially as she had been a relic hunter, trying to find a way to help the race survive.
Gunnar is a viking were-wolf that has survives for centuries and has been in charge of his pack for what seems forever. A meeting with an intruder however has his wolf changing at the bit that his mate has been found.
With dual race and adversity to overcome, both our strong female and our alpha male need to find the path of less resistance in a place where the paranormal world around them is changing and adversity is just around the corner.
The story becomes that much more complex, some questions are answered and more questions left unanswered, however i am REALLY enjoying this series. It has been brilliantly put together and thought out, i highly recommend it.
The Untamed Vampire is a story of a magic turned Vampire who falls for a very old werewolf. A forbidden love but love just the same. Despite the difference between Chelle and Gunner, they find a way to be together. Of course, Baxter doesn’t make it easy for them. It will be a rough ride before their HEA, but worth every minute of their time.
I love what Baxter had done with this series. She has been consistent with her writing. Each story in this series has a good pace, good amount of action, steamy romance, but not overly done strong heroine, and a hero you can easily swoon over.
Yes, I swooned over Gunner. I love a man who can rule, take over, and pretty much get his sh*t done. He set his mind on doing his job as the Alpha of his pack, protect his mate, and he got sh*t done. Chelle, on the other hand, is equally strong. Both mentally, physically and magically. It’s said that she may be the most powerful being in this realm. She’s not my favorite in the series, but I love how she carried herself. She was pretty kickass and a good person to boot.
This series reminds me of MoonBound Clan Vampire series by Larissa Ione which I enjoyed a lot. So, if you like those books, this series might be for you as well. This book, in particular, is the fourth book of her Last True Vampire series but not the last. The fifth book, The Lost Vampire was released last August and I have yet to devour it. The sixth, The Wicked VAmpire is scheduled to be released in December. Great time to catch up!
I didn't mind the read. It wasn't all consuming but was a steady, easy read.
The untamed vampire by kate Baxter.

This was a good read with good characters. Little slow in places but I managed to read it. 4*. Netgalley and St Martins press.
I am loving the characters in this series. Each book makes me fall a little in love with each main couple. The Untamed Vampire features Chelle and Gunnar who get struck with their mating or tether (depends on who you ask) at first sight. The unfortunate part is that bond hits them while Chelle is in the pack’s home trying to steal a part of a key that could give her answers to what she is.
Chelle is not the crazed vampire that the last book made her sound to be. She really is level-headed. She could have grown that way since The Dark Vampire, gotten more control over herself. But Chelle still does not trust herself. She is driven by a need to know how she was created and what abilities she is likely to have. She already has some power that she hasn’t told anyone about for fear they will all see her as different and be afraid of her. She needs to get all 3 pieces of this key so she can open Set’s Chest and hopefully get some answers.
Gunnar is blown away when he gets hit with the mate bond while catching a robber in their relic room. He is so stunned and Chelle is so fast, she gets away. But not with her prize. Gunnar has to hide his bond with Chelle as it would be against pack rules to mate with anyone other than another wolf. He is also dealing with a second who is determined to convince Gunnar they should ally themselves with the berserkers and Gregor. Gunnar does not feel like he have to align himself with anyone. But he is being pushed. The decision not to align with Gregor has his Aren vexed and Chelle can see in his mind that he wants to take over the pack. That leaves Gunnar with tension within his pack while he tries to deal with his mate bond with Chelle.
We get an answer to what Vanessa is, but that is about all we get for answers on open threads. There are a few lines that are being worked. Saeed is one of them and I see that he is the hero in the next book. Vanessa’s prediction has more than one person actively seeking this red-headed woman. Hopefully we will learn more about this woman in The Lost Vampire.
I really enjoyed Chelle and Gunnar. Gunnar is so determined to make the made bond work, while Chelle is trying not to get too close so the tether won’t get too strong. At first she tries holding back from Gunnar, but he is just too much for her to give up. The mating or tethering may have happened on sight of each other, but the romance that brings them to love each other doesn’t come as easy.
This series has been great for making sure there is some good conflict. In establishing his role as King of the Vampires, Mikhael is trying to build up his alliance and get some vampires made from the covens. We have a lot of characters on the fence for this, and Gunnar does not come right out and offer his allegiance, which kind of worries Mikhail.
I can’t wait for the next book. The search for the red-haired woman will have berserkers, mages and vampires racing each other to find her. I’m dying to find out why.
Everyone loves a vampire story and especially a very unusual one. Well this one fills the need.
Chelle is quite determined to get her answers and along the way she learns a lot about herself and her relationship to others. Of the two main characters she has the greatest growth in her outlook of life and her belief about soul mates.
Gunnar is the typical in-charge alpha with a twist. He really cares about the people in his pack and always tries to find the good in all they do and are, while keeping their traditions. But...... he really doesn't want Chelle in his life because of the pack traditions.
The author does a supreme job of showing the struggles these two have with their belief systems and what they want out of life as well as how vampires, werewolves, berserkers and Sortiari start to pick sides in a war for power.
I give this 4 stars for showing the reader how to handle long standing belief systems in todays world.
Rating~ 4.25 stars
This review was supposed to be up on release day but I didn’t get much free time in the last few weeks to post it so without further ado here it is.
If anyone isn’t aware PNR romance was first love so every time I find a great PNR book/series these days I consider it a gift because lately there haven’t been that many newer pnr books being published (from what I see and if you know any good author please let me know).
One of my newer finds is the Last vampire series by Kate Baxter, it’s has a very different and unique take on the whole vampire/dhampir lore along with the concept of mating and souls, it’s very interesting and every book introduces a newer element that makes the story/world all the more exciting.
This time around it about a very special vampire Chelle that got created by accident and by magic instead of the usual bite. She is extremely powerful, perhaps giving the Vampire king a run for his money. However, being a vampire isn’t something that she had wanted especially not one that doesn’t know how to control her new and dangerous powers and is different from the rest of the vampires. Her mate, Gunnar happens to be the Alpha of an ancient wolf pack and a viking at that has enough on his plate already without a vampire mate thrown in the mix who also happens to be a thief.
Chelle wants answers and the only she thinks she will get them is by entering the Alexandria Library, theres only one teeny tiny problem, she only has one third of the key, finding the keys to the mystical Alexandria Library will be tough enough, getting them from their current owner even more and thrown in finding her mate and the uprising and power struggles happening in their world. Chelle would have to go through a lot to get those answers.
I really liked Chelle, I mean the woman is entertaining as hell. She’s strong, vulnerable, loving and caring and could a pain in the ass (to Gunnar and her twin and probably the Kind) but loveable. I really enjoyed her finally accepting herself, her powers. Gunnar was also pretty likeable. He had finally found a mate but in the wrong species since Vampire and werewolf mating is forbidden which made everything in his life complicated.
Sparks fly and a body tackle happen when they meet for the first time. Gunnar and Chelle start of adversaries, with Chelle trying to steal from him. Finding out that there are mates is a shock to both of them of them. I really enjoyed them together, they had chemistry, enemies to lovers trope and thrown in the plot of betrayal, some fights, evil people eviling makes it a very enjoyable read.
I’m can’t wait to know about more about the mysterious red headed fae and Saeed Almasi, the poor vampire who’s going crazy and will have his own book ( The Lost Vampire, I believe it’ll release in august). I’m also pretty excited to more about Vanessa’s seer abilities and how they will come into play in the future.
The book was entertaining, a little difficult to follow as I had not read the previous in the series. However, this book worked as a standalone. I must admit that for all the hype that was Chelle, we really had no answers. She was so afraid of her powers--what powers? They were not really explained and it got really annoying after a while. I loved Gunner. He knew what he wanted, and once he met his mate he never faltered. Meanwhile there are rising tensions between the Sortiari, Beserkers, and vampires. Alliances must be formed. Nothing is really resolved, and you know the conflict will continue in the next book. Decent read.
If you think this book will be your typical werewolf/vampire love story, you will be disappointed. Chelle, my new fave of the series, is anything but typical, so it only makes sense that the story of her finding her mate would be filled with surprises.
Chelle is a witty, sarcastic, danger-loving, unique vampire. OK, so she has one other vampire similar to her, but as the head of her own vampire line, she's a bit of an anomaly. Her powers are stronger than anyone else, and she's still keeping most of that a secret from almost everybody. Her latest obsession is finding answers about her powers and exactly what the creepy relic did to her when it transformed her into what she is now. The way into her location for answers, however, is guarded by a three part key, one of which is with the leader of a werewolf pack. It's on her trip there when she shockingly discovers her mate.
Gunnar is exactly what you'd expect a werewolf viking to be like - he's rough and crude, ruling by his own strength and eager to fight any battle that needs to be fought. Most packs don't accept mixed race matings, so when he identifies his mate in the form of a vampire, he knows it must stay a secret until he can inform the pack of a law change. As if their Romeo/Juliet romance isn't hard enough to keep under control, there's also a big power play going on with the remaining supernatural factions and it might be time to choose sides.
There's a lot of action, romance, and sexy times all jammed into this fast-paced read. I think you might be able to read this one as a standalone, but it was nice to watch all the characters and larger storylines grow from book to book. It will be interesting to see where everyone ends up at the end of this building battle. I'm especially interested in seeing some of the side characters get some more development along the way.
My First Look was posted over on Heroes and Heartbreakers, sorry I forgot to share the link earlier, can I blame RT brain?
Great addition to an awesome series, I have read the other books in this series and they were all fantastic, this story was no exception. Love Chelle the strong female vampires heroine she doesn't take any crap from anyone and Gunnar is the ultimate alpha literally, he has the king and a very tough customer except when it comes to Chelle. From the way the story was going there is more to come from secondary characters and I look forward to reading their stories.
THE UNTAMED VAMPIRE is book 4 in Kate Baxter's Last True Vampire series. Because THE UNTAMED VAMPIRE has such a hotbed of secrets and complex relationships, I think readers should read the previous books in the series before jumping into this story. The men in THE UNTAMED VAMPIRE are driven almost to the point of madness by their single-minded obsession with different bewitching women. The morally ambiguous werewolf Christian is trying to keep a lid on his fascination with the dhampir ruler Siobhan. Newly made vampire Saeed is consumed by his enticing and tormenting visions of a beautiful fae. Gunnar Falk, Alpha of the Forkbeard pack, is knocked for a loop when he plans on catching a thief and catches his fated mate instead.
I was so excited to find out that vampire extraordinaire Chelle Daly's tethered mate would be a werewolf. I love werewolves, and Gunnar is exactly the kind of protective, do-anything-for-his-mate, sexy werewolf that will have any paranormal romance fan begging for more. Chelle and Gunnar do occasionally clash when it comes to her methods for trying to find out more about how she was magically made a vampire. Both characters struggle in deciding whether their new unexpected and inconvenient mate is a boon or a catastrophe. After all is said and done, and after the fur flies, the attraction and eventual mutual respect stops any argument from turning truly nasty.
Power struggles abound in THE UNTAMED VAMPIRE, and they're not limited to the bad guys. Vampire king Mikhail Aristov finds himself making uneasy alliances in order to fight a greater threat. Gunnar has to fend off treacherous rumblings from a pack member. Christian is in a constant state of flux as he tries to navigate his way in the paranormal predator power struggle. Finally yet importantly, Gunnar and Chelle struggle with themselves and each other as they try to make their head and hearts gel. In THE UNTAMED VAMPIRE, Chelle is desperate to understand herself and be at ease with her new amped-up powers.
THE UNTAMED VAMPIRE is bursting with dynamite characters and a thrilling romance between two alphas. If it hasn't already been published and I just missed it, I would love to read a novella about how werewolf mates Jillian and Sven met. Since I adore werewolves, and find Gunnar's pack intriguing, I would love it if Kate Baxter ever did a spin-off werewolf series. There are so many cool supporting characters in THE UNTAMED VAMPIRE, Lucas, Sasha, Saeed, that I crave their stories and can't wait for them to be told. I look forward to reading Kate Baxter's next gripping paranormal romance.
Devouring, sinful and a true seductive bite, "The Untamed Vampire," is paranormal fiction at the genre's full perfection.
If I could pick only one genre that I could read for the remaining years of my mortal life I would happily choose paranormal. I am insanely addicted to the darkness that these stories possess and the danger that lurks within loving immortals. Since the paranormal is my favorite genre I am very selective about how I review these romance novels. I know what I want in a paranormal romance and I rarely settle for anything outside of what my imagination expects, with that being stated, I am officially hooked on the fiction work by the author Kate Baxter.
As to why I have not previously heard of the author until now I have zero ideas. I can safely confess that I have been reading the series of "Last True Vampire," and quickly the romances have become my own guilty pleasure.
The story of "The Untamed Vampire," was an intense read. It was filled with deep sexual contact, a wicked plot of danger and a gothic romance that will forever last within me. Both Chelle and Gunnar were vibrating characters that despite the war about to rage between their species (vampire and werewolf) were willing to risk it all for their love. These to-die-for romances are the reason that I love reading romance novels in the first place and I am so excited about this story.
If there is one novel that you read this year make it the "The Untamed Vampire," regrets are nearly impossible with this story.
This is a great book; this is the fourth book in the Last True Vampire series written by Kate Baxter. Chelle is not your typical vampire. Turned not with a bite but an age-old magic, she’s the only one of her kind and more powerful than most. Still adjusting to her endless thirst and lethal fangs, she’s desperate to discover what sets her apart. When she encounters a brutally virile alpha werewolf, she soon learns that she s not immune to the mating call and her own primal longing. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
So, what did I like about it?
I have become quite the fan of Ms Baxter’s writing style; I find her books very easy to read and love the way she creates her stories, the pace of her tales, how the plot evolves and the urban fantasy world that she’s built. I think that the balance in this story between great banter, hold-your-breath tension, kickass fighting and steamy sex scenes was really good.
I am an old romantic at heart, so the “two halves of one soul reunited” love story part of this tale satisfied my mushy side but it was the real relationship doubts and insecurities that both Chelle and Gunnar experience that adds a very real and contemporary feel to this love story.
I must also mention, that it’s not just our main characters that we see such complexities, every character that Ms Baxter includes has their own set of idiosyncrasies that I find they cease to be just filler characters in a book but become real three dimensional with just as much importance as our main couple.
This paranormal romance tale made me chuckle out loud, wipe tears from my eyes and I gave me yummy flutters of arousal; in short - I was gripped.
So, ummm, was there anything I disliked about it?
Nope. Loved it!
So, basically what I’m saying is...
I think this is my favourite book of the series so far! I really enjoyed every page. It was full of emotion; it has love, betrayal and drama, exciting fight scenes and passionate sex scenes!
I don’t think that it’s inherent to your enjoyment of this story to have read the previous books, however, as with most book series, when you read novels in sequence you get to know the supporting characters and the world thus adding insights and the comfort of familiarity.
If you’re a fan of adult paranormal romance stories where your heroines are intelligent, witty and independent and your heroes are strong sexy alphas with a big heart waiting to be unleashed or if you’ve enjoyed reading the “destined soul-mate” theme of Felicity Heaton’s Eternal Mates Series or Dianne Duvall’s Immortal Guardians Series, then I think this paranormal romance will be right up your street!
WILD AT HEART
Chelle is not your typical vampire. Turned not with a bite but an age-old magic, she s the only one of her kind and more powerful than most. Still adjusting to her endless thirst and lethal fangs, she s desperate to discover what sets her apart. When she encounters a brutally virile alpha werewolf, she soon learns that she s not immune to the mating call and her own primal longing
The leader of the ancient Forkbeard pack, Gunnar is stunned by Chelle s lush beauty. The wild wolf inside him howls for her, but unions between vampire and werewolf are strictly taboo even if their clans weren t on the verge of war. Desire has never been so dangerous but, as a malevolent new power rises, Chelle and Gunnar face an even more frightening threat. Together, they might find a way to save their clans. But can they claim their passion, in The Untamed Vampire by Kate Baxter.
Review:
A great addition to this series!
I love supernatural stories and this story sure fulfilled that love. It is a story about vampires, but I like that the author mixes in other supernatural beings. This story especially fills this love as vampire Chelle is tethered to werewolf alpha, Gunnar. I was drawn in on page 1, as Chelle goes to Gunnar's home to steal a relic that she hopes will give her answers to what she is. Their love and attraction is forbidden and leads to all kinds of situations that they must work through. They both had their hands full and at times it made the story exciting, dramatic and sexy. The tethering/mating of two different beings was done in a unique way that I liked. I thought she did an excellent job of continuing this exciting series and world. I still have to find the time to go and read the first couple of books in the series.
4Star
*I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this book provided by the publisher.*
The Untamed Vampire by Kate Baxter is book four in her Last True Vampire series and it is action packed with vampires, shifters, berserkers, and mages alike.
Chelle Daly is a vampire born from magic with unique abilities that make her different than other vampires. In search for answers about what she is, she sets off on a mission to obtain the three pieces to a key that will unlock a library that may hold the answers for her. One piece she has, while the other two she'll have to steal. Piece of cake with her abilities. Or at least it should have been except she wasn't expecting her mate.
Gunnar Falk, werewolf and Alpha of the Forkbeard pack, is shocked to find a thief got passed his security, and is utterly floored to discover the delectable thief his is mate. Despite matings outside of the pack being outlawed, Gunnar's wolf knows Chelle is theirs. Throw in a pending war, along with a traitor in their midsts, and these lovers will learn that work so much better together than apart.
I enjoyed Ms. Baxter's novel, which is filled with description and tons of action. I loved Chelle! She's such strong heroine. Witty, caring, brave, funny, and stubborn. She's not afraid to jump into a fight especially to help those she loves and I enjoyed her backstory. I hope we get to find out more about her in later books and her abilities or about what she is.
I also liked the buildup of the story that deals with McAlister, Gregor, and Saeed for the next book. It makes me excited for the next installment.
Overall, The Untamed Vampire by Kate Baxter was a great novel with strong characters, a well-paced plot, and filled to the brim with paranormal characters. I happily recommend.
