Even though I'm not a huge fan of werewolves, this was another great book in the series. I liked it so much more than the last. The characters are still great and completely believable and the story still interesting with new surprises popping up to be dealt with.
I love how Chelle is terrified of her powers as opposed to wanting to use them against people. It makes her such a more likeable character. It's while after the keys that will unlock a place that might have the answers she seeks about what she has become that she crosses paths with Gunner. The alpha of his pack, Gunner is fierce, powerful and honorable. And when his wolf claims Chelle as his mate he will do anything to have her. Even though Gunner has tethered her, Chelle is defiant about that link controlling her. Between that, the keys, and the fact that a relationship between their two very different kinds is exceedingly complicated the two of them fight a lot. But also manage to learn much about each other.
While most of the book is about their relationship a lot is happening elsewhere. Mikhail agrees to meet with the head Soltiari, Gregor is trying to gather more support, and there's a traitor within Gunner's pack. Not to mention Saeed, who was so frustrating with his actions here. I know it was mean to set up the next book, so it better be good because he annoyed the hell out me. Either way, I'm totally looking forward to it.
War is coming in this fast paced entry into the Last True Vampire series. Chelle doesn’t have time for love. She needs answers. She is not your typical Vampire. She was turned by magic and has gifts that scare her. She surely doesn’t have time to tangle with the sexy Viking that is the alpha wolf of the ancient Forkbeard pack but the Fates are fickle bitches that won’t be denied. Gunnar is having enough issues trying to protect his pack from enemies from without and within and as much as he would love a true mate he hadn’t expected a sarcastic sexy vampire. Watching these two tangle while the world winds up for war is a fun and exciting ride.

Chelle, a vampire, and Gunnar, an alpha Viking werewolf, make an odd but great couple. I liked them together, and for the most part really liked this book. First one I've read, if this is a series, so there were a few things that I found confusing. I also didn't quite get all the things that had happened to Chelle, and why she is so different. Again, this could have been described in another book. Overall though, I still enjoyed it, and highly recommend this book and author. Just wish more would have been explained.
Can you accept the past? Chelle needs to find out more abut her past and what do her powers mean? She is a vampire but she is very unique she has powers like no others. And she needs to find the 3 pieces that will help her find her way but she has to go through supernatural territory to get them. She was hoping to get in and out but the werewolf caught her and damn he is her mate. She wanted her soul back but not to him. Gunnar can't believe that his mate is a vampire and he knows that the pack won't accept her but he will do anything to stop them for finding out. But Chelle doesn't back down easily she still needs the piece from him and there is no way that she can let go even if he is her mate. There is war on the way, too many sides to choose and no one will come out unhurt. But what happens now ? Can Chelle & Gunnar really make it and will there families ever really accept them as a couple? Another great book by Kate.
Kate Baxter's vampire series has been an amazing reading series. Gunner has a run in with a vampire who is trying to steal from his pack. Finds out in the tussle that it is his mate. A must read.
This book seems to bring a lot of story arcs together as we see Chelle at a point in her life when she really needs to discover as much as she can about herself and her new and wholly unique Vampire powers. Chelle has a plan though and it's to find the missing two pieces of a key that could lead her to discover so much more about the Goddess blessed box that transformed her .
Gunnar doesn't want to involve his Pack in the war that seems inevitable with Vampires, Berserkers and Mages on different sides. Yet when he senses a presence in his den he is unprepared for the shock he's about to receive. The would be thief is a Vampire and his inner Wolf screams 'mine' but that can't be right can it? Still Gunner cannot deny that Chelle is his Mate and tries to protect her from his Pack discovering exactly what she could mean to him. Problem is there's treachery within Gunners Pack and dirty dealings that are trying to pull them into a fight that Gunnar doesn't want. Unfortunately though with a Vampire like Chelle around nothing is ever going to go exactly as Gunnar planned!
There's a lot going on in this world the author has created. First we had the Sortiari controlling the Berserkers in an effort to completely wipe out the Vampire race. Now we see the Berserkers trying to stage a coup and break out from under the control of the Mages who form the Sortiari. Underhand dealings and double crosses are the name of the game here and it's clear that the Werewolves will have to pick a side but where does that leave Gunnar and Chelle?
If you enjoy sassy females who have no intention of staying behind or cowering behind the sofa then you will love Chelle. Yes she's suffered , yes she's even frightened of herself at times but Chelle is not going down without a fight so a truly worthy Mate to an Alpha Wolf. Gunnar is a Viking who totally thinks he's in charge. I enjoyed his rough edges and his bluntness but perhaps what truly made him interesting was his inner Wolf. I've seldom found an author who made that connection as vivid as here. I completely fell for the Wolf that contained two consciousness and thought it brought this side of Gunnar to life with glorious effect.
It's a good length book which gets my vote but at times for this reader it did drag a little. I wanted more action I guess but it did allow the romance to take its time and of course there are numerous hints as to just where this series is going as the Dhampirs and Vampires seem destined to take on old enemies and possibly new ones as well.
This voluntary review is of a copy I requested from Netgalley and my thoughts are solely my own and my honest opinion
Chelle is a fairly new vampire with unknown special abilities. She is trying to find all 3 of the keys to the special box where she was turned when she runs into Gunner, the head of the local wolf pack. The attraction between Chelle and Gunner is immediate and they both realize that they are mated. The problem with that is that Gunner's pack is old school and could very well kill Gunner and Chelle is they find out he has mated to a vampire. Chelle is petrified to mate with Gunner as she has no idea yet, what she is fully capable of.. Gunner's best friend and second in command is trying to undermine him and get rid of him. Chelle may not want to admit that Gunner is her mate but, she's not about to let anyone hurt him.
This is a story about two tortured souls who find each other in the midst of a war that will either tear them apart or pull them together for eternity.
The untamed vampire is an explosive tale if vampires, werewolves, dhampirs, fae and a whole host of other mystical characters. Not having read any previous Kate Baxters book I must admit to being a little confused to begin with due to all the different 'creatures' but I soon settled into this thoroughly exciting tale.
Chelle is a powerful vampire turned not by a bite but by magic, she desperately wants to know the who, what, and how of her origins. Parts of her search brings her into contact with Gunnar an alpha werewolf leading a powerful pack descended from a strong Viking race, they become 'tethered' or mated to their complete surprise. Together they end up fighting in a power struggle with different factions trying to gain supremacy.
An absorbing and enjoyable read for fans of this genres, and a good tale for newcomers like myself.
Thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book
Multiple storylines converge to make this werewolf/vampire paranormal a good read. Gunnar finds his mate after a millennium of life. Chelle is not of his species. The berserkers nearly decimated the vampire race by the order of the Mage's. The berserkers have broken the leash, and vow to take down the mages, and be the top of the food chain. Magic, relics, betrayal, monsters. Love may conquer all. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book from Netgalley for an honest review.
A good unique paranormal romance. Interesting plot. I enjoyed the story. Looking forward to more by this talented author.
