A cowboy romance that tugs at the heart. This brothers best friend, small town romance is full of spice, cowboys, and a story that pulls you in.
A wedding, your best friend, a secret, a tornado, and discovery of what matters most. If Beth and Brick can figure out what they really want, what they need, and how to determine when the games stop and the real world begins this could be something life lasting for both.
Can't wait to read the next installment.
This book was just so good. I just had the time of my life reading it and I'm really looking forward to seeing what's next from this author.
Lordy, Lordy! Cowboy meltdown. Sweet Jesus, Brick is an ex ranger and a cowboy - I’ve died and gone to heaven. He’s a sexy player who has a two night stand with a mysterious woman he can’t stop thinking about. After a chance encounter and a dare, he asks her out on a date. Beth is a good girl. Hardworking and predictable, hooking up with a cowboy is new for her and when opportunity knocks for a third “hookup” she can’t refuse. Their chemistry is off the charts, he manages “to kiss the smart from her brain” and she breaks all his no serious commitment rule. But there is one problem Brick is her overprotective brother’s best friend and Ranger buddy - all hell is going to break loose. This book is thoroughly enjoyable and sexy as hell. You need to add this book to your TBR list asap. I voluntarily left a review after reading an ARC.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Entangled Publishing via NetGalley and I also purchased a copy.
This was hilariously funny at times to the point of having to stop reading. Other times the action and dialogue was so poignant that I had tears in my eyes. It is a wonderful book that brought out a roller-coaster set of emotions in me and I enjoy a book that does that. The plot was beautifully written. I felt like I was right there with the characters.
Brink is good friends with Cord. They served together in the Army as Rangers. Now they co-own a ranch and a construction business dedicated to helping veterans. There is an unwritten code that they live by, you don't mess with a fellow Ranger's sister. Unfortunately Cord only uses their code name with discussing his friends with his family. Beth and Brick met at a bar. They immediately click. Two weeks later, Beth is back in town on business and is dared by her friend to kiss the next single man to enter the fair where they are. Low and behold, in walks Cord. The attraction between them has grown and things just get hotter. After Beth discovers that Brick is her brother's friend, Romeo, she is torn. If she reveals her identity (as Cord calls her Lizzy to everyone), Brick will drop her like a hot potato.
The journey to their HEA, is one that is filled with sex, fun dates, but strife as well. This book is written in a dual POV format. It is wonderful to see the turmoil and guilt that Beth is struggling with; it really humanized her. Brick on the other hand is struggling as he has never done a relationship before. As the days go by, Brick's rules fall by the way-side one by one.
I so enjoyed this book. I had a few tears as the story developed and things came to a head. I adored Beth's courage. This story is the second in the series and it is a keeper and I look forward to re-read this one. You don't have to read the first book in the series to enjoy this one BUT I would as the prior characters reappear. Besides it was just a wonderful read as this one.
Due to the sexual nature of some scenes, I highly recommend this book (and the prior one) to anyone over the age of 18.
I really enjoyed the characters in this book. Beth & Brick's attraction was intense and I loved the way Brick found himself falling hard for Beth, even as he tried to play down his desire to open up and let someone (female) into his life. I did feel that Beth should have been a little more open with her brother to let him know she's old enough to have her own life without his approval. She came off pretty immature in that facet where otherwise she had a lot more confidence and take-charge attitude.
I can't wait to get my hands on the first book. I loved the little bit we saw of Stone, Jovy and that crazy cow and would love to see all these Rangers from the beginning.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion. I will definitely look for the rest of the series.
This is the first book that I have read from this author. This was a brother’s best friend/secret romance book between Beth and her brother’s best friend Brick. It was an ok story. Brick and Beth start a taboo relationship because they knew that her brother would not be happy about it. Sometimes you can’t stop it from happening when people are attracted to each other. They did keep it hidden for a good part of the book and that is why the book was ok for me. I am all for taboo relationships but not for almost the whole book. This book to me was a little slow in some parts but it did have some steamy parts as well. It was a fun read at times but just didn’t hit the mark for me.
Brick is one HOT cowboy!
Beth reconnects with Brick a week after their unforgettable weekend, and neither one can walk away without exploring their amazing chemistry. Just as things are starting to get more than serious, she finds out his connection to her brother, forcing "serious" to take a huge detour into "secret" and "impossible."
I loved the developing relationship, and certainly could sympathize with Beth's dilemma. Brick lives up to both her expectations and his name, but the eventual HEA was sweet and heartfelt.
More than the romance, though, this book gives us a world that honors veterans without whitewashing their problems. For that alone, I highly recommend this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Beth Brannigan is a by-the-book kind of woman, so when she takes a crazy dare given by her best friend, she almost backs out until she sees who it is. Now her fling is becoming so much more.
This was a really good story and a fairly quick read. I liked both characters and there was plenty of storyline mixed with hawtness. While the idea of a seems a little silly, it set up for the perfect opener between the main characters. While I thought both characters were fine the way they were, there’s really not much build on characterization, at least for Brick. You get a good sense of the type of guy he is, but not a lot of back story. This didn’t detract for me at all though. I can’t wait to read more books from this author. I recommend.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
Brick is her brothers friend she is off limits, however Beth decides to do what she wants. So when on a dare she kisses the first cowboy that walks in the bar, it is Brick. One thing leads to another and the chemistry is hot. It comes to a point where they have to face her brother.
This book was easy to connect to. I thought it was a fun read

What I liked:
The writing style
The characters
Part of a series:
The Men of At Ease Ranch
Standalone
HEA
I look forward to reading more from Donna Michaels.
In this second book of the Men Of At Ease Ranch Beth Brannigan is working on her best friends wedding. She is an event planner and her boss is out of work, allowing her to be lead on the Rachael’s wedding. Beth’s brother lives in the next town over from Rachael. She is excited to see him. Her brother Cord is very over protective. He has run off all past boyfriends. So when she starts seeing a good-looking cowboy she keeps him secret.
Brick is an ex Ranger and best friend to Cord. He owns At Ease Ranch and Foxtrot Construction. He is dead set against relationships and is planning to move to Vegas to work for their commander. That is until he meets Beth. After a hot weekend with her with no numbers or last names exchanged, he can’t forget about her. She is all he thinks about. He did not expect to ever see her again. So imagine his surprise when he is kissed by her at an auction.
Beth can’t believe her luck. When Rachael dared her to kiss the next cowboy to walk into the auction, she is more than happy to since that cowboy is her weekend fling from before.
As the romance and chemistry between Brick and Beth gets stronger and he starts to introduce her to his world, she realizes that Brick is more than a stranger and it is not fair. Fate is unkind. Will she be able to tell the cowboy who she really is and not have him walk away? Will Ranger code get in the way?
This is a hot sexy read. Full of hot as hell cowboys. Who doesn’t like a sexy cowboy? Right!? Every touch, kiss and whisper had me wanting more and more. I could not get enough. I got lost in the pages.
The chemistry between Brick and Beth is hot. They cannot keep their hands off each other the magnetism between them is so strong. I love the forbidden love story. It is so sweet and emotional.
I am looking forward to the next book in the series, hoping that it will involve Cord’s story. He has something deep going on and I am interested in finding out just what that is.
Even though this is the second book in the series, you can read it as a standalone novel. It is a feel good romance. I guarantee you will enjoy it.
There is something to be said about characters who have the perfect chemistry and it's tangible to the reader. Ms Michaels has created that in Brick and Beth. Not only did they have explosive chemistry, but they also were the perfect compliment to each other.
I've now read the first two books in the series, and look forward to Cord's story next.
This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
I couldn’t finish this book, I like the author’s writing and have enjoyed many of their books before but this one wasn’t one I could get into. I will try again when the author’s next book is released as I am a fan of theirs.
A cute romance and a great addition to The Men Of At Ease Ranch series.
In this book we have Beth who is an event planner, who is usually straitlaced. When she comes back to her hometown for a wedding, she has a hot, steamy fling with a cowboy.Just when she is putting it behind her, her friend dares her to kiss a guy, and surprise surprise-it's her guy-Brick.
They pick up where they left off and hot days turn to sultrier nights. But, just when they start to get closer she finds out that he is her brother-Cord's Army Ranger buddy. And her brother is super protective of her.He would never let her date a military guy, and especially one of his friends?
What's a girl to do when she's caught between a Brick and Cord place?Lol!
The chemistry between Beth and Brick was awesome!Brick is cooler than his brother Stone whom we met in the first book.It was great reading from both the main characters' point of views.
It was a little weird to see Beth being afraid of her brother's reactions. He has his reasons, but still its a free country man.Your sister should get to date whoever she wants.
Even more stupid was the fact that Beth decided to keep it a secret from both Beth and Cord.So there were many funny moments where she has to manage things.
Nevertheless, it was a great read in the end and I loved being able to meet all the old characters again.
I hope Cord gets his story next, and I am really interested in reading it!
Loved this book!! I have a new author on my favorites list. Her Secret Ranger is the second book in the Men of At Ease Rance series but can be read as a stand alone (I downloaded the first book before I finished this one :))
Beth is an events planner who falls for a cowboy (& former Ranger) not knowing that he's her brother's friend. The story unfolds with Beth & Brick falling love but Beth knowing that once her brother finds out the relationship will be over.
This story offers so much more than romance- check it out!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This is book 2 in The Men of At Ease Ranch series and it features Army Ranger Brick Mitchum and party planner Beth Brannigan. These two are burning up the sheets in this sweet and sexy romance. Secrets are very bad as Beth soon finds out. Secrets between best friends are even worse.
There's never a dull moment in this story. This author knows how to write her military men as cowboys. Delicious! Another great story with fantastic characters. I'm definitely looking forward to the next one.
When Beth Brannigan’s best friend dared her to kiss a cowboy instead of saying no she ends up kissing her brother's best friend.
Former Army Ranger Brick Mitchum isn’t a relationship kind of guy. But when he meets Beth he starts thinking about settling down. But she's hiding something and he has to find out what.
I was a bit disappointed by this book because I saw the reviews for the first one in the series and they were great. I did not like the deception because there was no reason for it, which skews the entire novel. Also, it felt like sex was mistaken for romance. While I have no issues with sex scenes, these just seemed to be the focus of the novel.
Her Secret Ranger just never took off for me. The dialog just never seemed to flow and was always a bit awkward feeling. I hate to say this because so many Romance novels do have some cliche aspects and a lot of redundant story lines with slight changes but this one just seemed like the same old thing all over again. The emotions never really came through and I never felt any real connection between these characters other then when they were in bed together or we were being told how they were feeling. The book just never gave off that vibe where you as the reader could feel their passion and love through their actions. There just wasn't enough grit in this story to keep my interested and I struggled through all the way to the end.
Her Secret Rangeris sweet ex-military cowboy love story. Great easy read with interesting plot and great develop characters. Both Brick and Beth are great developed and I just love the passion that combined those two. I understand both of them, Beth why did she kept the secrets and Brick with his code. But in the end it all turns out to be good.
