I was really looking forward to reading this book when I first saw the synopsis on Goodreads. Imagine my surprise when I saw a sneak peak on Net Galley! I had a hard time deciding whether or not I wanted to read it... could I start this book, risk loving it, and then have to wait two more weeks beforehand I could read the rest? I decided to do it and I am glad I did. This excerpt was well written and captivating. Alex and Eliza has now jumped to the top of my "to- read" list!
What I liked: The Hamilton love story is a great hook. Let's face it, anyone who has listened to the musical will want to read this book. I love how Melissa de la Cruz really gets us into the heads of the Schyler sisters.
The story is intriguing although we know where it's going to go. The book is compelling and the characters are well written. I think this will be a big hit for anyone who is interested in the Hamilton story or for anyone who likes YA romance.
What I didn't like: At times, I felt like there was a little bit too much exposition. Granted, I only read the prologue and the first 5 chapters...
This sneak peek has piqued my interest and I will be looking forward to reading this book when it comes out. The immediate introduction of the Schuyler family household and the conflicting relationship between Eliza and her mother seem to indicate that this book will deeply explore family dynamics as well as the social customs and political atmosphere of that time. Add in the romance between the two main characters and I'm interested to see what fresh perspective the author will use to tell this now familiar tale.
I've been on the Hamilton bandwagon and was excited to see a YA historical fiction coming out to fuel my love. This sneak peek gave a flavor-filled taste of the Schuyler sisters' colonial world and the shake up the dashing Alex Hamilton brings. There's intrigue mixed in with history and politics, keeping my attention even though the writing was a little fluffy. Even so, I'm looking forward to reading more to see how the romance unfolds.
A very intriguing title especially with all the rave reviews about the musical "Hamilton.' The characters and plot are enticing and the book should be a rewarding experience.
Enjoyed this "sneak peek" of "Alex and Eliza: A Love Story". Looking forward to reading the book in its entirety!
This story is so unique, and the characters are great, I can't wait until I get the chance to read the full story,
This is my first sneak peak, my first Netgalley review, and honestly, this book was one of the reasons that I really wanted to get into this "business." I was so jealous of the people raving about the previews of this book...and it did not disappoint!
I want to begin by saying that the title spells out an exact equation for the first 50 pages of the book Alex + Eliza and you know its going to = a love story. And a really good one at that. There are very modern and relatable characteristics about both story lines, even though they are set hundreds of years ago. I love that Eliza and her sisters each have their own personalities and opinions, yet seem to get along (so far). And then Alex's humanity as he discusses his past working as a clerk on a ship having to inventory "supplies" (i.e. slaves). To me, this book does a good job of bringing a lot of intricate, historical details to life that I had never thought about, but now that I read them I think that they are so quirky and interesting, or so delicate and fascinating that I really have an appreciation for them! I hope that there is much more of this to come in the rest of the book!

So far, so good! I'm looking forward to reading the rest when I purchase the book. Thank you for the sneak peek.
If you are okay with a surface presentation of the relationship between Alexander Hamilton and Elizabeth Schuyler or are looking for a basic introduction for a younger reader 'Alex and Eliza: A Love Story' will definitely scratch that itch. However, I wanted more complexity and careful examination of the couples' road to marriage, and I got a Sweet Valley High version of how a penniless, nameless young man ended up meeting and marrying a young woman from a powerful family.
This was a great sneak peak. I will definitely be on the look out for the release. It gives an insight to one of the most successful stories told.
I only read a short sample of this book but I thought it was great! However I don't think would recommend it to everyone. This is a book that is aimed at fans of the recently popular musical Hamilton. Being a fan of the musical and it's historical backing as well I very much enjoyed seeing this retelling and will most likely be picking up the finished copy when it releases.
This story starts off with a prologue that I didn't much care for but once the story started, it slowly grabbed my attention. I do not particularly like historical fictions but this one wasn't boring. I don't know anything about Hamilton at all so it was all a brand new story to me. I did find myself wanting to continue reading the book when the sneak peak was finished.
This is a very interesting take on the romance between Elizabeth Schuyler and Alexander Hamilton. It was a bit off the mark for me personally, but I think every young reader interested in history will eat this book up with a hunger to learn more about these two fascinating people! The world needs to know more about Eliza Hamilton!
As I only got to read a few chapters, I cannot properly review this yet. My interest has definitely been piqued though!
Just based on the preview, this book reminds me of Pride and Prejudice meets Little Women. Beautiful flowing descriptive language. The details are impeccable. It's witty and charming all at the same time. I am looking forward to reading the entire book. Wished the preview was an entire copy of the book!
I enjoyed this sneak peek of Alex and Eliza. The story seems to be dramatic, full of rich history, and fascinating characters. The sample does begin with a bit of an info dump. But, really, the sneak peek made me really want to read the rest of the book! It was entertaining. I love historical fiction, and it seems like this one will be great.
This book looks great! I am very interested to see the story of Hamilton and Eliza get a YA treatment. I love the author's writing, so I'm sure it will be a great read.
SNEAK PEAK REVIEW:
I will admit that everything I know about Hamilton I've learned from LMM, and perhaps that's my own downfall going into this book. I wanted to love this so much.
I wanted to see the delicious banter that is hinted at in the musical. Instead, Angelica comes across as bitter, Peggy insipid, and Eliza naive. I saw nothing of the smart, charismatic girls I was expecting.
Hoping once I get my hands on the full book, my opinions will change.
