Two novellas about team mates for the Atlantic City Hustlers, no real hockey to speak of.

Flirting on Ice

Three stars.

Zac Elliott and the owner's daughter Heather fall for each other. But everyone else on the planet (or at least in Atlantic City) thinks it's a bad idea: the fans; his agent; his team mates; and his boss. Can love find a way?

This was okay, Heather's parents were more suited to a teenager than a grown woman, telling her who she could date and threatening to trade him if they dated.

Simmering on Ice

Three stars also.

Annie is a child physiotherapist at the hospital where Alec 'Sequoia' O'Meara and some of his team mates are visiting the sick children. At first , for a moment, Alec thinks Annie S his wife Tamara who died of cancer a few years ago because they both have long red hair. Romance develops, fuelled by Alec's need to 'save' people but he struggles with guilt over loving a woman there than Tamara and Annie has self-esteem issues because her mother is always criticising her.

Both of these novellas were just okay for me, love happened too soon and the parental attitudes were a little old-fashioned.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed this 2 book set. I didn't realize it was 2 books when I started to read so it was a fun surprise.

The writing was good for both stories & the plots were entertaining. And of course the sexy time was HOT. This set is great for reading after a long week- lets you just lose yourself in 2 fun stories.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Two stories for the price of one. I did enjoy these two novellas, and would give 3.5 stars. The first one, is Zac and Heather's story, and the evil Ben. No surprises on storyline, and romance is quick and resolved quick. The second is Annie and Alec's story. Good too, they just have past issues to work through. I would recommend these books, especially if you like hockey (which I do), and the sexy men who play the sport. Just wish there would have been a bit more character development and build up to the romances, but that is the nature of a novella. A good summer read, as it is easy to pick up and put down. Perfect for the beach.

Flirting on my ice.
Sweet story about forbidden secret love and the consequences. Zac is a hockey player and Heather is the owner's daughter. Players are forbiddent ot date the owner's daughter but they can't fight the chemistry and attraction they have for each other. their secret relationship is discovered and the fans are not happy. It take a big move on Zac's part to secret their love and future.
Recommended read.

Simmering ice
Annie and Alec story. Alec is ready to date after his wife's dead. There's an instant attraction between Annie and Alec when they met. Annie's insecurities challenges their relationship but Alec is determined to win her over. Great story. Recommended read

Flirting on Ice and Simmering Ice are 2 novellas that are combined together in this book.

Flirting on Ice is the story of Zac and Heather.

While I enjoyed this one, I felt a little like I was dropped into the middle of the story, with the attraction already between them. It was definitely insta-love and while that is ok, I like to be there from the beginning of the instalove story, so I was not as able to connect with this one.

3 Stars

Simmering Ice is the story of Annie and Alec.

I thought Simmering Ice was the stronger of the 2 stories, and it also built on the story in Flirting on Ice. I think, in this case, the fact that they evolved together left this the stronger story. I also tend to really like the stories where the woman is accomplished in her own right, especially when they center on the male sports hero and how accomplished he is.

Of the 2 stores, I thought this was stronger. In part I think as there is more backstory, not only from the first book but also because this one is longer and a little more character development is allowed to happen.

4 Stars

I recommend both books and definitely recommend them as a box set.

Book 1 - Flirting on Ice: Though it had an honorable, likable hero who fell in love with the sweet, overly protected daddy & mama’s girl heroine who reciprocated those feelings in the blink of an eye, as well, this reviewer couldn’t help but feel it was overly rushed and the fall-out drama of them being a couple extremely exaggerated. Likely the result of this short novella being one of two stand-alones being squeezed into just 219 pages combined.

It seemed they barely knew each other but suddenly they were mentally acknowledging how deeply they cared for one another. Sure it was sweet just not realistic. I just couldn’t buy into the OTT angry reaction of pretty much everyone when they found out these two had a thing for each other. You would think Zac, the hero, was the last living royal family member in a kingdom where fire and brimstone would hail down upon the earth and destroy it if he dare even go on a date with the heroine, especially since she was such a nice person. With the at times mechanical writing thrown in, I found it to be just an average sweet romantic read with an overly done predictable theme. Rating: 2.5 stars

Book 2 - Simmering Ice: Alec and Annie at least seemed to have spent more time together dating than the main couple in the first book before falling for each other, folks. Tamara, Alec’s deceased wife, did get mentioned on and off, but sweet, compassionate good girl Annie took it in stride. Well, until the inevitable fear of comparison and “maybe I’m not good enough for him” fueled by her mean spirited relative’s comments kicked in, which lead to insecurities and relationship angst. Overall, book 2 was better, but the writing also at times came across as mechanical. Neither book had a lot of steamy scenes so both were rather tame compared to more recent ice hockey romantic reads I’ve come across lately. Once again the hero was likable and honorable and the heroine was selfless, down to earth, and compassionate. Other than one of them being involved in two rather overly done accidents/incidents, there wasn’t a whole lot of drama in this one. Rating: 3 stars

If you are looking for two quick sweet romantic reads in this genre that do not contain foul language, crass situations, or steamy scenes that hijack the storylines, you might want to consider these two novellas.

3.5 Stars
This box set features a pair of books Flirting on Ice, and Simmering Ice. A forbidden romance and a second chance love story. I love a sports romance, and a hockey story line, has got to be one of my favorite tropes so I was really excited to read both these stories.

Zac and Heather are incredibly like-able characters. Zac is a bit of a bad boy on the ice, and in the middle of contract negotiations he inexplicably falls for Heather, the owner of the teams daughter. Their story has quite a few twists and turns that results in an engaging story.

Alec and Annie are complex characters, both have a past that had defined them and caused them to be reluctant to love. I loved that they had so much in common and their chemistry was both intense and sweet. Of the two stories, I have to say Simmering Ice was my favorite.

Overall a well written pair of novellas, I hope to read more of the Atlantic City Hustlers in the future. I actually wish these stories were a little longer, in particular Flirting on Ice, as I wanted more depth to Zac and Heather's story.

This set of stories were quick and fun to read, but not particularly full of depth or emotion.

Iced is a sweet and sexy collection of two stories featuring hockey players for the Atlantic City Hustlers. The first is Flirting on Ice. It gives us Zac, team captain, and Heather's story, the team owner's daughter. Heather's father has always let his players know that Heather is off limits, but Zac and Heather's chemistry can't be denied and they start meeting up in secret. Pretty soon, though, the media is alerted to their relationship and Heather is thrown into the spotlight and fans hate her for messing with Zac's focus. I like Flirting on Ice. It's short, but it's well written and Zac and Heather have great chemistry.

The second story is Simmering Ice and features Alec "Sequoia", one of the team's right wingers, and Annie, a physical therapist. They meet when Alec comes to visit some of her patients. He's drawn to her at first because her red hair reminds him of his late wife's, but she's really nothing like her. They're really great together, but, unfortunately, Annie has let her wretch of a mother get into her head and her insecurities could prevent their relationship from ever taking off. I like Simmering Ice even more than Flirting on Ice. It feels more well rounded and fleshed out, and Alec and Annie are even sweeter and sexier together.

If you like your hockey romance with doses of sweet and sexy, you should definitely pick up Iced!

Flirting On Ice is the story of Zac and Heather. They are perfect for each other but Heather’s dad owns the hockey team that Zac plays for. When news of their relationship is leaked, there is quite a bit of backlash. This is a quick read about forbidden love. I really enjoyed this book and it left me wanting to know more about the other players.
Simmering Ice is an adorable story about Alec and Annie. Alec is a star hockey player who is still struggling with his wife’s death when he meets Annie. Annie looks a lot like his deceased wife and she can’t help but wonder if he’s trying to replace her. It doesn’t help that her mom keeps telling her she isn’t good enough. The chemistry between these two grows stronger every time they are together. This is a quick read that is well written and I’d highly recommend it.

I read FLIRTING ON ICE and SIMMERING ICE in the box set of the first two books in the Atlantic City Hustlers series, called ICED, and I really enjoyed both of them!!!

REVIEW FOR FLIRTING ON ICE

I really enjoyed both stories, and while I'd say that I liked SIMMERING ICE better than FLIRTING ON ICE, I did still really enjoy Zac and Heather's story! I loved both characters—they were absolutely wonderful and their romance was so sweet! I thought they were perfect for one another! I did feel like their story was rushed a lot more than Alec and Annie's was though, so I do wish that it'd been a little more flushed out—I would've loved to see more of their relationship as it built. Other than that, I thought it was fantastic and I'm definitely looking forward to more of the Atlantic City Hustlers series!

Along with the sweet romance, I thought that the story itself had a pretty great build, and while it was fairly dramatic, it definitely had me glued to the page! I especially loved how the authors introduced the team, and they left me curious about more than a few of the characters, so I was pretty glad to be able to read this one in a boxset since I was eager for more. :D

All in all, I thought that FLIRTING ON ICE was adorable! Both Zac and Heather were the kind of characters that were really easy to like. They were kind, generous, and I genuinely wanted the best for them, so they were pretty fantastic to read about. I'm glad that we'll get to see peeks of them going forward in future Atlantic City Hustlers books. ;) I'd recommend this one and the rest of the Atlantic City Hustlers series to fans of contemporary romance who like a little drama with their HEA, especially if, like myself, you're partial to sports romances. ;)

REVIEW FOR SIMMERING ICE

Out of the two novellas, I did love SIMMERING ICE a bit more than FLIRTING ON ICE though! I loved Alec and Annie, and I felt like their story was a little more flushed out than Zac and Heather's was, but both were absolutely adorable!! I really loved the team aspects of the story, and the romance was sweet and had a really wonderful build!

What I loved more about SIMMERING ICE was that we saw a lot more about both Alec and Annie. We learned about both of their pasts and why they were reluctant in love, and I thought that the authors did a great job of showing both characters' insecurities. They also did an amazing job at showing the chemistry between the characters! Alec and Annie had amazing chemistry, and they were extremely well suited together! They had so much in common, and I thought they complemented each other perfectly! I was actually pretty amazed how well their relationship was developed because this was a pretty quick read.

SIMMERING ICE actually holds up pretty well against even full sized romances! It checked ALL of my boxes for romance books, and I really loved it! If you haven't started the Atlantic City Hustlers series yet, now's a good time since you can get this one and the first novella, FLIRTING ON ICE, in the ICED Boxset. ;) I'd recommend them to fans of sweet, contemporary romances!

--------------------------

As for the ICED Boxset as a whole, I loved that we got both novellas in it! Overall, both titles were fairly short, very sweet, and absolutely wonderful to read. I loved the romances, and I really enjoyed seeing the Atlantic City Hustlers as a team, too! Veronica Forand and Susan Scott Shelley have written a wonderful cast of characters, and I'm definitely looking forward to more from them, especially more of their Atlantic City Hustlers! As I've mentioned, I'd recommend these novellas to contemporary romance fans looking for hot athletes, and relationships that are both sexy and sweet!

I thoroughly enjoyed the two books in this boxed set. I am a huge hockey romance fan and both of these are right up there with some of my faves. I will be looking for more from both of them in the future.
Flirting on Ice, is Zac & Heather's book. As the captain of the Atlantic City Hustlers, starting a relationship with the team owner's daughter is right up there as the #1 thing you do not do. But after a few weeks of talking and texting and really getting to know each other, their intense chemistry proves to much to overcome and they start seeing each other anyway. They have some very hot and sexy times together. By this time they've already fallen for each other. Unfortunately they can't keep it quiet when the paparazzi are always around sneaking pictures when they think they are alone. This causes problems for both of them but luckily they are able to overcome and their HEA prevails.

Simmering Ice, is Alec & Annie's book. He is a forward on the Hustlers and he lost his wife to cancer a few years prior and because of his status on the team it was a very public thing. He is a gorgeous mountain of a man, or should I say tree since his nickname is Sequoia. He isn't looking to start a relationship with anyone but he can't seem to stop himself with Annie. Annie is a physical therapist and a friendly, compassionate, and amazing woman and from the moment they meet he can't get her out of his mind. They begin dating and quickly get in deep with each other. Alec faster than Annie. Alec wants her to move in with him and he buys her a car. He even tells her he is falling hard for her. But years of being berated by her own mother and now her mother telling her she is not good enough for Alec, cause her to question whether Alec is really falling for her or is just trying to replace his dead wife with someone who reminds him of her.
She may have red hair like the wife he lost, but that is where the similarities end. He just needs to prove that to Annie which he does and it is wonderful and their awesome HEA prevails.
Solid 4-4 1/2 star reads.

FLIRTING ON ICE.

Flirting On Ice is a quick, romantic filled, and packed with dramatic action throughout each and every page. Even though it’s a short story, it still feels well-rounded and substantially complete. Sometimes it’s hard to connect with the main characters in their quest to finding their HEA but from the very beginning I was rooting for Zac and Heather. It was a great introduction into this new series based around the hockey team that Zac plays for. 4 Star read!

SIMMERING ICE

Over all Simmering Ice was an adorable HEA story. I loved that these two people found one another. Alec and Annie have both dealt with struggles in their past that has affected them. Alec is a widow that lost his wife four years prior when she lost her battle with cancer and he just isn't looking for love anymore. While Annie is constantly being put down by her family, especially her mother. Nothing Annie does is good enough. Once these two meet, they can't help the instant attraction. While this story was a quick read it was well written and I really liked it. In my opinion a solid 4 stars read.
