Honestly these books were just ok for me. As I was reading it all felt familiar to me and then I realized I had read these books before as separate books. But I didn't see it written anywhere that these were previous releases. The writing was good, but stories were short for me and likely not ones that I would have chosen to re read again.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book provided by NetGalley.
This is my first book by these authors and I really enjoyed them. I loved the characters involved and the interaction between them. I will be checking out other titles from these authors
I love book that have hockey as a main subject, and I have read a lot of them. While I enjoyed these books, I felt like I have read similar books with similar characters and plots. They were enjoyable, but predictable and similar to other books in this genre.
I had a really hard time connecting with this story and it's characters
'Iced' is a 2-novella compilation that was previously published as separate stories. Both novellas are very easy reads nonetheless. Their brevity makes the stories short, sweet and self-contained, though it does sometimes compromise the depth of emotion and character motivations that don't seem to be sufficiently fleshed out.
I loved the idea of this series, hockey romance is one of my favourites. This is a two book series following the Atlantic City Hustlers Ice Hockey Team and their love interests.
However in book one we meet Zac and Heather, and I've got to say I couldn't relate or sympathise with the characters, and I found Heather in particular quite annoying. The daughter of the hockey team's owner, she didn't have any character or spark. Zac was hot (I love hockey players), but he too seemed a bit dull and pathetic. The writing didn't seem to flow, the characters kept back tracking, saying one thing, and doing another. As good as the story could have been, I just wanted to get to the end as quickly as possible. Not a great read for me.
Then I read book two and the writing and the story seemed to flow a lot more. The story follows Alec and Annie, both have pasts that aren't pleasant. Alec is a widower of 3 years and he isn't looking for any permanent fixtures in his love life. Annie has been cheated on by her ex, and to make matters worse her mother is always putting her down. She has no confidence. When she starts dating Alex, all her insecurities come to the surface. I enjoyed reading this story and even fell in love with Zac from book 1 again. Light easy read.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I love sport romance and Hockey stories are some of my favourite. This two-book set is a great way to start a series and the characters and their fates are fun and interesting. These stories don’t have a unique storyline, but they hold their own. If you’re looking for quick, easy reads, then these will do the job.
This was a two part book that was amazing. The story details surrounding the hockey players was spot on. As a lover of hockey, these stories were spot on. In the first part Heather and Zac were perfect for each other. They fought not only the hockey fans but the league as well. The commitment to stay together was heartwarming. In the second story Annie and Alec have instant chemistry but their pasts keep them from moving forward. Through a great plot the two come together and get their happily ever after. This was romance at its best - a great read I would highly recommend.
FLIRTING ON ICE
A short read that packed a whollop. I was hooked by the 1st chapter and was already looking forward to chapter 2. While some stories pay lip service to to hockey -- where the hero is a hockey player but the author doesn't show any on ice knowledge -- I was pleased that the writers went forward to display some sport love along with the romantic suspense it meant to dole out. The "suspense" is light since the reader will have long guessed who the baddie is, but this is a short story and we haven't time for cat and mouse games. Already onto Atlantic City Hustlers #2 and looking forward to reporting back if this series is on its way to leading with 2 winning goals.
SIMMERING ICE
#1 in this series had way more oomph in every way -- story, characters, suspense/drama, romance. #2 was tepid and hardly worth the effort to complete. The high stakes action at the end felt completely manufactured and semi-convenient to force characters to say their I love yous.
Two amazingly hot stories about hockey players. The only problem they were too short. But a must read anyway.
Sweet short stories. Really liked the characters in both books. I would love to read a longer story from this author. Novella's lend themselves to insta-love/lust and sometimes slow and steady is more fun to read! I would pick up another book by this author.
Flirting on Ice features Zac and Heather. Heather is the daughter and only child of the owner of the Atlantic City Hustlers hockey team, that Zac is the Captain of.
They only get to share a couple of casual snack dates before they're told to stay away from each other. Then they get to know each other by text and phone calls alone. Usually a team is like a family, and they stand up for each other and stick by them when times are tough. Not so much with the Hustlers. For me this brought down my star rating for this book.
Simmering Ice features Alec and Annie. They make such a cute couple. I like how competitive they both are, neither taking it easy on the other. Annie's mom is a true piece of work though. Always making Annie doubt herself about everything from her job to her looks. I was hoping that Alec would get a chance to set her mom straight, but it never came. Of the two books in this set, Simmering Ice is my favorite.
