I've loved everything I've read from this author, and this book didn't disappoint. Andrew and Georgie seem like two very different people, but sparks fly in this sweet, fun and sexy book! it was a fun, easy read! *arc provided by netgalley for honest review
Lauren Layne brings us another amazing book that I just couldn't help but to fall in love with.
This book had everything I come to expect from Ms LL, and more.
We have Gorgie. A sassy and care free woman who loves HEAs, and Andrew, a cold diverse attorney who is and all business and no play. Andrew and Gorgie have nothing in common, but they fit.
I adored their 5am bantter. It was sweet and hilarious at times.
Ms Layne knocked the ball out of the park with this one, and as always I can not wait to see what is next.
Oh, my... I had a blast reading Walk of Shame. Between the characters and Lauren's writing style, there wasn't a thing I didn't love about this book. While it felt a lot like a reboot of Confessions of a Shopaholic, I enjoyed the little pieces from different movies that Lauren weaves into her story, especially the Enchanted references. Can we have a bit more of that? The characters were what sucked me into the story. Andrew... Poor, lovable Andrew. The man's "open mouth, insert foot" moments made him an adorable, but clueless hero. He doesn't know what to think of Georgie and that played a big role in a lot of his actions towards her. The way he sort of crumbles when he unintentionally insults her broke my heart. But beneath that is one sexy hero. Wow! It took a couple chapters for me to warm up to Georgie. She's not your typical heroine. Yes she's a party-girl, but she has a heart of gold. The little things she does for others is what eventually made me like her. I loved the emotions she and Andrew brought out in each other. Fun characters to spend a couple hours with.
I had to giggle at the title of this book. Everyone knows what a “Walk of Shame” is but I will refresh those who don’t know. The definition is taken from Urban Dictionary:
“Walk of Shame
The walk from another person(s) house, apartment, condo, dorm, van, bar, park bench or other; to your place of residence wearing the same clothes you had on the night before.
Typically used when someone leaves the home of a sexual escapade (quite possibly with someone you met the night before) in the morning; hair sticking out in all directions, lines on your face, and missing at least one article of clothing.
In the event that your “Walk of Shame” did include sex, you may be wearing your partner’s clothes. If you did not have sex you probably did get into a fight, damaged property was escorted off someone’s premises, or in some way embarrassed yourself. In any case, you will need to check yourself for injuries.
Still half-drunk, I began the walk of shame to my room and made a futile attempt to recall all that I had done on Friturday.”
Now there are other more to the point on the Urban Dictionary website but I chose the more reader friendly. If you want to read the slightly raunchy, totally not PC definition, just click on the link above.
So, based on the definition I put up and my own personal experiences with walks of shame, I really was expecting a book that started and ended with sex and didn’t really have a plot. But what I read, instead, really surprised me.
Georgi was a sweetheart….once you got past her party girl exterior. I was actually kind of put off by that at first because she was rolling in as most people were getting up and going to work. But her sweetness and her positive outlook on life won me over. Plus, she knew how to dish it and take it, like a pro. Her interactions with Andrew had me laughing my butt off and I loved the Wizard of Oz references.
I couldn’t get a handle on Andrew at first. Because the story is mainly told from Georgi’s perspective, I really didn’t know what he felt about her. Actually, I felt the vibe I got from him is that he thought she was annoying. So, I was pretty surprised when the author turned to 3rd person to tell his part of the story and when I learned that he had feelings for Georgi and had feelings for her since he met her. I did a “Whaaa” when I read that because it did kind of blindside me (and yes, I knew they were getting together….I can still be blindsided).
I loved the romance between Georgi and Andrew because it was more real life (forgetting that she was an heiress and he made money hand over fist). They were frenemies first, then true friends and then the romance kicked in. I loved it!!
What I liked, even more, was that the sex was put off on in the book. The author allowed for her characters to develop feelings for each other before they bumped uglies. It was refreshing to read that because the sex didn’t take over the book.
I did figure out the plot twist that added drama to the book. I actually figured it out as it was happening but still, it was sad to read and I felt bad for all involved.
The end of the book was great and I loved the happy endings for everyone involved!!
How many stars will I give Walk of Shame: 3.5 (rounded up to 4 for Goodreads and Amazon)
Why: Written wonderfully with a good plot line and great characters
Will I reread: Yes
Will I recommend to family and friends: Yes
Age range: Adult
Why: Sex and language
**I received a free copy of this book and volunteered to review it**
Once I started reading Walk of Shame I couldn't put it down. It was fast paced and I absolutely loved all of Georgie and Andrews early morning interactions. I love that their sexual tension built over time and it wasn't just "I just met you, let's have sex, and be together forever." Despite the fact that Georgie and I have nothing in common Layne definitely made me feel for her with her family situation. That's a tough break.
My only complaint was for about the first quarter to first half of the book there was a lot of brand name dropping and I could have done with out that. I get it, she's rich, but the constant reminder of that through name brands was a bit much for me.
Pampered heiress Georgianna Watkins has a party-girl image to maintain, but all the shopping and clubbing is starting to feel a little bit hollow—and a whole lot lonely. Though Georgie would never admit it, the highlights of her week are the mornings when she comes home at the same time as her uptight, workaholic neighbor is leaving to hit the gym and put in a long day at the office. Teasing him is the most fun Georgie’s had in years—and the fuel for all her naughtiest daydreams.
Celebrity divorce attorney Andrew Mulroney doesn’t have much time for women, especially spoiled tabloid princesses who spend more time on Page Six than at an actual job. Although Georgie’s drop-dead gorgeous, she’s also everything Andrew resents: the type of girl who inherited her penthouse instead of earning it. But after Andrew caps one of their predawn sparring sessions with a surprise kiss—a kiss that’s caught on camera—all of Manhattan is gossiping about whether they’re a real couple. And nobody’s more surprised than Andrew to find that the answer just might be yes.
Such a cute book. Loved the characters. They had such great chemistry. This story truly is a must read. This book with have you swooning and laughing at the same time. Lauren Layne was a firstfor me and I can say this I loved her story.
This was the first time I have read this book, and I loved it. Kept me on my toes and had me flipping pages quickly as I couldn't get enough of these characters.
Definitely will be reading more from this author.
I have to say, I really liked this book. The H and the h had such chemistry - even when they were snarking at each other.
Both the H and the h were really fleshed out. The author allowed the reader to understand that the h was trying to find herself, trying to fill the emptiness....and she was so giving and cheerful. Loved the H trying to understand who she was. He was such a stuffed shirt in the beginning, and I LOVED it! Loved the "sick" scenes, where they took care of each other, despite each thinking the worst of the other.
Why the 4 and not 5 stars? The issues with her parents were pretty obvious, and her not understanding that the H couldn't tell her what was happening kinda irritated me. I mean, she understood that he can't tell her about his and the firm's clients because of privacy, so that little bump kinda threw the rating down.
I liked this book, and really related to the characters. I WOULD definitely recommend it to others!!
Georgiana Watkins is an heiress with a party girl lifestyle. Her highlight of the week is teasing her grumpy but hot neighbor every morning at 5 a.m. as she's coming in for the night and he's starting his day. It’s the one thing she looks forward to more than partying, shopping and splurging on beauty treatments. Andrew Mulroney doesn't quite know what to make of his sparkly, shiny neighbor. Sure, he's attracted to her but their differing lifestyles negates any chance of a real relationship. Even if Andrew wanted more from the ridiculous woman, he has a habit of sticking his foot in his mouth and saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.
I adored this book. It is totally a Disney fairytale turned contemporary romance. It works so well because both Georgie and Andrew have layers that make them believable characters.
Georgie is hilarious and despite the party girl exterior is smart as a whip. She is easy to like, strong, witty, and, most importantly, down-to earth. She is also cheerful, exuberant and bubbly, the three qualities that could so easily make her super irritating. Which she is anything but. Instead she is so ridiculously perfect. Andrew is a cynical divorce lawyer. He is deliciously grumpy, moody, antisocial, awkward, and seriously uptight. He also suffers from foot in mouth disease. The banter between the couple was fantastic.
The only thing I could have wished for was a longer book.
All in all, this is a happy and entertaining read full of funny humor, charming characters and sizzling chemistry.
Walk of Shame is a stand alone contemporary romance novel by Lauren Layne. I usually love Lauren Layne books. They have the quintessential urban vibe to them. I'm almost always happily sighing at the happy ending at the end of each book. Walk of Shame is a classic example of opposites attract and don't get me wrong, I did enjoy it. But I felt like it was missing a bit of depth. Definitely not one of my favourite Lauren Layne reads but a good book none the less.
Let's start with Georgiana. Georgie is a New York socialite with a party girl image. She comes from a privileged back ground and is usually happy with her glamorous and a bit shallow world. But Georgie always finds time in her day to exchange quips with the uptight divorce attorney Andrew. I liked Georgie. She was a good person even if she sometimes portrayed herself to be a bimbo. Her optimistic view of the world and smile on her face for everyone was something admirable.
Then we have Andrew. Andrew is a celebrity divorce attorney who obviously, doesn't believe in love. He is happy sticking to his strict schedule but Georgie always seems to get in his way and disrupt his plans. There is a reason he can't stop thinking about her and he knows the attraction goes deeper than he would like to admit. I liked Andrew. He was smart and serious. He actually needed someone like Georgie in his life to cheer him up.
Like I said before Georgie and Andrew have a total opposites attract thing going on. Their personalities are miles apart and each one assumes the wrong thing about the other on different occasions. When they finally open their eyes they can see that they make for a perfect pair who balance each other out quite well. I wish we'd got a bit more about Andrew's family though.
So from what all I've said above you'd think that everything was perfect with this book. What I can't point out exactly is what was missing. I liked Georgie and Andrew on paper but their story didn't touch my heart. The climax was very predictable and I wished for a little more depth during the course of the story. To sum it up, Walk of Shame was a nice, quick read but I would suggest picking up something else by Lauren Layne if this is your first venture into the world of Lauren Layne's books.
*Note: A copy of this book was provided via Netgalley by the author/publisher in exchange for an honest review. We thank them.
really loved this contemporary romance between party girl, Georgie, and attorney, Andrew. Georgie was not at all what Andrew thought and expected. I really enjoyed watching the romance develop between these two. There was great chemistry between them. The storyline was interesting and kept me intrigued. I found this one entertaining and fun, and thought it was a great addition to the series. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of the book in return for an honest review.
I loved it and was lucky enough to receive an ARC from the publisher so I could read it ahead of time. I wasn't thrilled with Love Story, the last Lauren Layne book I read (too much bickering) but this one was perfect; perfect pace, perfect story, perfect couple. Lauren Layne has become my current favorite author and when her latest release comes out, I can't get anything done until I've finished it. I enjoy reading the Happily Ever Afters and Lauren always delivers, in the most perfect way possible. If you haven't read any of her books, go get one immediately. You won't be disappointed.
Where has this book been all my life?!! Where?!! I don’t have the words to describe all the love I had for this story! It was addictingly delicious and wickedly funny! Walk Of Shame is a book that will leave you with a full heart and a goofy smile on your face. It will make you swoon and make you laugh. It’s a book that you’d be incapable of reading without smiling the entire time. It was, in a word, PERFECTION.
I’m a sucker for a good enemies to lovers and this was utterly delicious! Witty banter, snarky sarcasm, ah-mazing characters, and enough chemistry to zap your finger with electricity each time you turn the page. So. Dang. Good.
I don’t like games, Georgiana.”
“Which is why you need to play them, Andy.”
He blinks. “It’s Andrew.”
“Hmm. How about Drew?”
“No.” The word is a growl. “Georgiana.”
“Yes, Andy?”
He exhales. “I’m going to kill you.”
I can’t help the laugh. “See, I don’t think so.”
“Don’t you?”
“Nope,” I say, sucking sugar off my thumb. “You don’t send flowers to someone you’re going to kill.”
Georgie is no stereotypical socialite. This is a heroine that’s absolutely impossible not to love. She’s warm-hearted, genuine, witty and sweet. There’s no catty friendships and silly drama with her. Can I just say what a breath of fresh air that was for me? Because GAH! I loved that! Being the daughter to two moguls leaves her wanting for nothing, but she’s not spoiled in the very least. She truly cares about people and I adored the easy friendships that she developed and drew people to her with her presence. Even the doormen to her building weren’t immune to her easy charm. The one person that was, however, was the stuffy divorce attorney that seems to go out of his way to either ignore or insult her.
What exactly did you do for exercise, Georgiana?” he says, giving me a skeptical look. “Twirl your hair?”
“If I do it vigorously, it counts as cardio.”
Andrew Mulroney, boy genius, now successful and most sought after divorce attorney is the definition of routine. Up at 5 am, exchange snarky sarcastic barbs with Georgie, work, sleep, repeat. He was so adorably awkward that you can’t help but like him. He’s not your stereotypical playboy hero. Yes, he’s successful now, but he’s not the life of the party. He’s been on the fast track to success since high school, and he’s not about to let a party girl distract him…even if the party girl is a lot more than first meets the eye.
I loved the banter between these two and the slow burn of sexual tension. Between every barb and insult these two exchanged, there’s a crackle of attraction and I absolutely loved the pacing of their relationship developing. It goes from frenemies to a reluctant friendship to so much more.
The man whose head moves insistently between my legs is nothing like the buttoned-up lawyer who has spent the past few months ignoring me. This man is raw and primal, his touch sure and possessive, as though every part of me is his and he’s always known it.
I adored every single page of this book. Every. Single. Page. The friendships between Georgie and her girlfriends, the witty banter between her and Andrew, the slow burn, the crackle of attraction, EVERYTHING. Everything just flowed effortlessly to make for one unputdownable read that left me with a goofy grin from beginning to finish. I can say with utmost certainty that this may have been my favorite book by this author to date. If you’re looking for a witty rom com with a dash of enemies to lovers, you seriously can’t go wrong with this book!
This book is amazing, I am a big fan of Lauren's writing and I'm so glad I read this book!
I have read a few Lauren Layne titles, and for the most part, I have enjoyed them. I was avoiding Walk of Shame at first because I thought it was NA, and I am not a huge fan of the New Adult genre. In fact, most of time I can’t stand the angsty whining. I decided to take a chance on it after some research on Amazon and GoodReads, and I’m glad I did, though the book had mixed results for me.
Georgie is a happy go lucky socialite. She lives in a luxury apartment in Manhattan, parties at all hours with her clique, and tries to brighten the mornings for the concierge staff with daily donut bribes. The one low point in her life is Andrew Mulroney, a divorce attorney who also lives in her building. Andrew is like an attractive robot; everyday at 5am he leaves for the gym. Georgie plans her day around being in the lobby to verbally spar with him every morning. Theirs is a relationship built on verbal jabs and putdowns.
I did enjoy the banter between Andrew and Georgie. I also found the opposites attract aspects of the story incredibly fun. What I didn’t enjoy so much was Georgie. I guess I have absolutely nothing in common with her, and found her chosen life-style of partying (followed by charity work), annoying. It must be nice to have nothing else to worry about but which new dress you’re going to wear clubbing. I just found her very shallow. She’s 28 and is only now considering taking the job her dad keeps dangling over her head. Really? While I imagine that it might be a relief to not have to worry about keeping food on the table or a roof over your head, Georgie’s life-style made her completely alien to me. I could not relate to her, and I don’t think I wanted to.
Walk of Shame was complete fluff. It was a quick read, it consumed little brain power, and it was exactly what I needed when I picked it up. It’s just not anything that’s going to stick with me for very long. Pick it up if you enjoy light-hearted romances.
Grade: 3.75
Ahh...Where to begin? This was a fabulous love story. It was funny, sweet, and sexy. Georgie is a socialite who parties all night and fundraises during the day. Andrew is an uptight divorce attorney. They met each other when they moved into their apartments on the same day. They didn't like each other and thus began a back and forth bickering every morning as Georgie came home from partying and Andrew starts his work day. He finds her cheery, animated attitude ridiculous. She finds him too stuffy. Their relationship builds and builds and it's just the sweetest thing to witness. I smiled almost the entire time reading this. It just made me happy. A truly wonderful romance. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy.
A great Romantic comedy, keeping you on your toes as you immerse yourself in the story.
Quirky, fun and with a great humor and fast paced storyline, a wonderful days read, I thoroughly recommend.
I ADORE Lauren Layne's writing. This is my absolute favorite series by her and it just keeps getting better. Walk of Shame was sexy, funny, and sweet. The perfect opposites attract story!
Lauren Layne never disappoints, and Walk of Shame was no different! This novel pulled at my heartstrings and had me rooting for an HEA!
