This is one of my faves from Lauren Layne. And I know I keep saying that with her books but seriously, this author writes my kind of romance.
Wow talk about a difficult guy! These two are just bad at communicating but they do have a lot of sexual tension flowing. When opposites attract it can be the least expected thing but it can also be the best match. A new perspective to a set mind. Sparks fly in this story and acting ridiculous turns into a fairy tale.
Smart, fun and delighfully romantic, Walk of Shame is the perfect enemies-to-lovers story! Georgie Watkins and Andrew Mulroney are neighbors. They are not on friendly terms though. Andrew is a famous divorce attorney and a condescending workaholic, dealing in cold facts and logic. Georgie is a party girl, sassy, energetic and popular. They have nothing in common and are polar opposites. Their interactions are tense and Georgie is annoyed by Andrew’s overbearing and uptight attitude. Their banter was hilarious, each encounter degenerates into unfriendly bickering. Andrew obviously doesn’t like Georgie and it bothers her a lot. She has decided to find the crack in his armor!
The book is written from Georgie bubbly point of view for the most part. She is not the vain socialite she seems to be, she is thoughtful, caring and it makes her very relatable. She manages to elicit emotional responses from Andrew. I enjoyed his internal struggle, he can’t control his attraction to Georgie. But Andrew may be very smart, he has no idea how to flirt.
Lauren Layne has woven her story in a way that is at the same time utterly romantic and fun. Her gift for hilarious and lively dialogue allows for a feel-good read. Her characters are so engaging and well-developed that you will root for them, no matter what. As they get to know each other, their interactions become playful, their antagonism slowly fading. Their path to happiness was bumpy, but with so many feels and a lot of laughs along the way. If you enjoy light, fresh and charming romantic comedies, look no further and pick this book!
I absolutely loved everything about Walk of Shame!! It was perfectly ridiculous in all the fun ways. I had a huge smile on my face from the moment I started reading and it just never quit!
Here are some things that were done really well:
Georgiana was not OTT. She could have been. After all, she comes from money. Lots of money. But she was truly just the girl next door … with a ton of money LOL SOOOOO much fun to read her verbal sparing with Andy 🙂 I may have highlighted half the book!
“Okay, I forgive you for the dinner snub the other night. Now you forgive me for the snub just now.”
Andrew looks at me out of the corner of his eye. “It doesn’t work like that. You don’t get to just exchange one apology for another.”
“You do when they’re the same offense.”
“Yes, but mine was done out of professional necessity, yours was just petty—”
“I ate a banana,” I interrupt.
He opens his mouth, then shuts it, at loss for words. “What?”
“Yesterday. I was hung over, as you probably expected, and I didn’t have a banana, but I ordered one for dinner.”
He’s silent for a full thirty seconds. “You ordered a banana for dinner.”
“I did.”
Andrew closes his eyes for a moment. “You really are ridiculous, Georgiana.”
Their chemistry simmered on low just below the surface for the entire book. It’s one of the things that kept me glued to my kindle. This was a #fridiculous enemies to lovers/frenemies romance story that is very surprising. You just never knew what would come next from these two. And their growing friendship was soooo endearing to watch blossom, or rather read LOL
And let’s not forget BFF, Marley! Everyone need a Marley in their life people, EVERYONE, because when life punches you in the gut, a Marley will come to the rescue properly armed to punch life back!
I open my front door to Marley, who’s holding a box of pizza with two blocks of mozzarella on top.
“Um,” I say.
“Well,” she says, pushing into my apartment, “I ordered a pizza and asked for extra cheese. But then I was like, what if that’s not enough cheese, you know? So I stopped and got some extra, because . . . cheese.”
I nod approvingly. “This is why we’re best friends.”
There’s really nothing to not like about this book and a ton to really love and enjoy. It’s easy and flirty and really sexy and just plain F.U.N.

This isn’t the first time I’ve gushed over a Lauren Layne book and something tells me it won’t be the last either. I L-O-V-E-D this book. So much, in fact, that I was more than willing to stay up until nearly midnight reading it because I just couldn’t get enough of Georgie and Andrew’s banter, chemistry and utter amazingness together.
Georgie is easily one of my new favorite heroines and it’s kind of surprising because I typically have a tough time dealing with “party girl” characters. Thankfully she was multi-dimensional and there was so much more to her than her party girl side. She was sassy, sweet and smart. My love for Andrew wasn’t immediate, because he came off a little to stuffy for me at first, but when it hit, it hit hard. Together, however, they were amazing. I loved how they pushed each other’s buttons and how their day felt off if they didn’t have their usual 5:00 am sparring match. They had crazy chemistry, even when it seemed like they hated each other, so I couldn’t wait to see what happened when they stopped pretending to dislike each other. They were, as Andrew would’ve said “perfectly ridiculous” and I enjoyed every moment, laugh and feel… and the sexy times, too. I’m a big fan of the enemies to lovers trope, so it shouldn’t surprise anyone that I adored this book.
If you’re a fan of Lauren’s books, you’ll undoubtedly want to read this one ASAP. Even if you’ve never picked up one of her books, but you love romantic comedy, you need to get on this one. You won’t be sorry. In fact, if you’re anything like me, you’ll have an ear-to-ear grin the entire time you’re reading and a satisfied sigh when you’re done. Utter perfection, IMHO.
FAVORITE QUOTES
I was wrong, I realize. First kisses aren’t always a disappointment. Sometimes they’re perfect from the very start.
Apparently the man is fastidious and uptight in all things except this, because his kiss is unapologetic and carnal, disregarding the fact that we’re in the middle of a sidewalk at the crack of dawn and that we don’t even like each other.
The man whose head moves insistently between my legs is nothing like the buttoned-up lawyer who has spent the past few months ignoring me. This man is raw and primal, his touch sure and possessive, as though every part of me is his and he’s always known it.
I enjoyed this book. The main characters were funny. The relationship that developed between them was sweet and realistic. I would definitely read more from this author.
From the first lines, Let s talk about 5am for a second, that is a way to reel the reader in but the writing has to keep the reader interested enough to keep them and in this case it did. I was hooked and the author had me at Dorothy and the red shoes and tugged at my heart with every wizard of oz reference. it was so funny. Andrew and Georgie are the best couple from the start even when they are not a couple. I would love to have dinner with them and their friends. We all need a Marley in our lives. And Hailey !!! Their repartee is hysterical. The visuals are well very visual ( Thor and captain America somehow defeat biology and have a love child together, and call him Andrew...I mean come one!!!) And when twirling your hair counts as cardio I know this is the book for me. The book is never boring. This story was everything an enchanted one should be!
March 23, 2017 – Started Reading
Review It's one of those stories you can see on the big screen. Lauren has a way with imagery in her writing. As I read this book, I can picture it clearly in my head as it happens in NYC. Most of her books are based in City that Never Sleeps...especially for a character like Georgie, she enjoys a night out! A gal like Georgie is fun to read about. As I read more about her, Isla Fisher pops into my head from Confessions of Shopaholic. Speaking of which...Hugh Dancy would make a nice Andrew in this scenario. They both definitely had chemistry on the screen as these two in Walk of Shame.
It did take a while for Georgie to grow on me but as the story progresses, you can see small nuggets of character development. Starting off as enemies...running into each other at 5 am every morning, you think they really do hate each other. But when the chemistry starts, oh boy does it start to get burn, and they anticipate for the clock to strike 5am until they meet again.
There are so many hilarious scenes in the book. I couldn't help but laugh out like to the comments Georgie makes towards Andrew. As they start to bond, you can see how Andrew begins to loosen up through Georgie's influence and vice versa. Georgie begins to broaden her horizons and begins to get more creative. And when the jealousy starts, you know they are meant to be.
Lauren Layne knows how to weave a story filled with love, laughter and a little flame. I would love to see what she has in store for us next!!
Walk of Shame. It was sooo good. New FAVORITE.LL book.
I loved Georgie. She was so much fun. She was three-dimensional, complex character. She was probably my favorite character of LL’s to dates. Andrew was a tough nut to crack though. While I really liked him, it was harder to love him. Oh, don’t get me wrong, I totally LOVED him too, but it wasn’t insta-love for me.
The dislike for each other and sexual tension between the two for the first half of book was just so enjoyable. I just loved everything about this book. I kinda want to read it again. Actually, if it comes out on audio, I’m so listening to it.
4.25 stars
Lauren never disappoints me. I can always count with her exciting stories to have a good time.
Walk of Shame is a story between two people who couldn't be more different from each other, but that in somehow they are attracted. When you put together Georgianna's bubbly personality and Andrew's seriousness, you have some really funny and entertaining situations that will keep you reading without stopping.
I only wish I could have read a bit more of development between them at the end, but I'm pretty pleased with the epilogue.
I recommend it!
This is another fun read from Lauren Layne! This story is about Andrew, an uptight divorce lawyer and Georgie, a NYC socialite. They say opposites attract and this couple are definitely very different from each other. I loved how the author brought them together. Walk of Shame was sweet, funny, sexy and an emotional ride. A true romantic comedy that is a joy to read!
Georgie Watkins is as sweet as the donuts she provides the morning security crew in her upscale apartment building. She’s fun and loving, and everyone she meets just seem to love her. Well, MAYBE not everyone.
Andrew Mulroney is disciplined, smart, and not very tolerable. A former child genius, he knows what it feels like to be the odd-man out, and he’s just fine without a entourage of friends. He runs a tight schedule in his work and personal lives; no matter how much she tries, he refuses to let Georgie get under his skin with her irresistible charm.
At least that was the plan.
Some plans work out…others, not so much so.
Frenemies from the moment they meet, neither can resist tugging at the other’s strings. Georgie knows how to get Andrew’s attention, and eventually, she wants to keep it. A high profile lawyer for the rich and famous, he’s careful about the company he keeps, but Georgie is not one to be ignored. Their encounters are just as regular as Andrew’s schedule, and each one made me smile and/or laugh out loud. Just their verbal exchanges had me hooked, and there wasn’t one character that didn’t charm me. I was immediately pulled into their world. I clung on to every word, and embraced every scene. On the surface Georgie is the typical socialite. She spends her days shopping and her nights partying. But underneath all that perceived bubble-headedness is a beautiful, warm-hearted, caring, loyal person. Andrew is truly her opposite. He has a hard, tough, seemingly arrogant personality; but it’s not who he truly is. He just has problems expressing himself, something he learns full-on dealing with Georgie.
I absolutely love these two!
The plot is fresh, the flow is smooth, and the pace is perfect; so if you think for one moment that I’m going to suggest for you to NOT read this book, then “you are ridiculous.”
You should definitely grab and copy and clear your schedule. “That’s how you’ll know” that Layne is one of your new favorite authors.
Walk of Shame was my first experience reading Lauren Layne. I’ve seen her books around a lot and was familiar with her name, but for some reason there just was never a book that really jumped out at me. When a friend of mine, who just might be more opinionated than I am, gave this book a glowing review, I couldn’t resist. The cover is adorable and enemies-to-lovers is one of my all time favorite tropes. I was not disappointed.
Layne’s writing is excellent. She pulled me in right from the beginning. It flowed well, making it an easy read. It’s one of those books that you sit down for a few minutes to read and before you know it you’ve read a hundred pages.
Everything about this book worked for me – except the characters. Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating a touch, that’s not exactly true. I never felt like I truly connected with Georgie’s character. She’s this spoiled rich socialite who, by all appearances, parties every night until 5 AM and when she gets bored, she might chair a committee for a charity. The lack of drive to do something with her life was kind of annoying for me. I didn’t feel like her character went through any real growth.
In the case of Andrew, it’s kind of the same story. Except opposite. Same in the way that I didn’t really connect with him, but opposite in every single personality trait. He’s unflinchingly stringent in his routines. Georgie eats donuts on the daily and he won’t stray from his boring protein shake on the way to the gym. He’s a serious, hardworking lawyer and relatively boring. Uptight is a great word to describe him. I loved that they were polar opposites, I think that can really serve to heighten the tension, but he never really loosened up the way I wanted him to and Georgie never really grew up the way I wanted her to. Though, it must be said, I’ll give Andrew a little credit. He had some minor character growth. He could’ve done better though.
But, having said all of that, I really couldn’t put this book down. It was fantastic. The tension was great and I ate up the verbal sparring. Good banter is one of my very favorite things in a book. It was certainly entertaining. I recommend this one when you’re in the mood for something funny, sweet, and easygoing. Great rom-com for everyone.
I think Walk of Shame has become my favorite LL read! I loved every minute of Georgie and Andrew's time together and I looked forward to their 5 am meet ups just as much as they did!
The sexual tension and flirty dialogue between Andrew and Georgie had me smiling from page one and I just didn't want to put the book down. No two people were more perfect for each other, despite being total opposites. From the moment you meet both Andrew and Georgie you are rooting for their HEA! And who can resist a girl who loves Enchanted as much as Georgie does! I had a humongous smile on my face the entire time I was reading. Andrew is brooding and handsome and you see the humor in his smirks and looks at and with Georgie. Georgie is independent and sweet and sarcastically fun, pushing all the right buttons to just get a little under Andrew's skin.
Such a fun read! This will definitely be a re-read for me on those days I need some sweet romance with a tinge of sarcastic fun.
This is another great read by Lauren Layne. Mater of fact it was "ridiculously" good!! I love the way that Lauren Layne writes as if we are in the head of her characters. You feel like you can sense what they are going to say or do and the writing is just great! These characters are very well developed, even though Georgie hasn't grown out of her partying stage. I loved all the characters in this story and felt that they all had their own piece of the puzzle to fit in.
We meet Georgie and quickly find out that she is a bit spoiled. Her grandmother has left her a large inheritance and so all Georgie does is party all night and sleep all day. Since Georgie has gotten into this habit, she has been coming into her apartment building in the early morning times and happens to always run into Andrew, another tenant in the building. Georgie and Andrew exchange some banter each day, but Georgie is not interested in anything having to do with Andrew because he is a lawyer and carries and air about him. Georgia is the type of person that everyone loves and she can not figure out what in the world is wrong when she can't even get Andrew to crack a smile.
Andrew has always been above his peers and even skipped grades in school, this made it harder on him though than one might have guessed. Not all the older kids wanted a younger one hanging around with them so that made it hard for Andrew to fit in anywhere. Andrew is a divorce lawyer and has made partner in his firm at a really young age. Andrew focuses on his working out and his work so that keeps him busy. When Andrew and Georgie start having more and more chance encounters in the early morning hours, Andrew wonders if they are really chance or are they planned? He doesn't want to say anything to Georgie about it because he rather likes the meetings. He is just not sure how to handle her sometimes. Georgie can be a little spit fire and always has something to say back to him.
One day Andrew doesn't show up at his normal time and Georgie thinks he is just trying to ignore her, when the next day rolls around and no Andrew again, Georgie knows that something has to be going on so she decides to go to Andrews apartment and check on him. Come to find out he has the flu so Georgie decides to take care of Andrew and fixes him homemade chicken noodle soup. After a few days Andrew starts to feel better and then guess what?? Georgie comes down with the flu, so it is Andrews turn to take care of her. The two of them begin to grow closer and closer to each other and eventually one thing leads to another. Feeling come out for each other and things happen between the two of them.
When Andrew knows a secret that Georgie doesn't know, will that put an end to their relationship or will they find a way to their HEA despite this hurdle for them? You have to read to find out. This is a book that you will not want to put down until you are finished and have learned what becomes of Andrew and Georgie. Such a great read for sure!
Upon reading the books from the Oxford Series, I was looking forward to the new book from this author. This did not disappoint. If you are looking for a fun, witty, clever read, this is your story.
Georgie and Andrew get off on the wrong foot beginning with their first meeting. The day each moved into their apartments in the same building. Andrew felt Georgie was spoiled and entitled while Georgie thought he was uptight (and other choice words). She decides to "poke-the-bear" and meet him at 5:00am each morning, where this party girl is coming home and Andrew, the serious divorce attorney, is leaving. There is clearly a bantor that the two exchange that starts off as sarcastic and rude. But each give as much as they get which helps with the flow of the story.
Their paths cross again in the story and they soon learn that they are attracted to one another. However, both come from different worlds and each wonder if they are enough for the other. This is what I love about this author. She takes her time to unfold a beautiful relationship and gives a voice to the main characters to where you are rooting for them. I am looking forward to the next installment.
3.5 stars - I'm pretty sure I've read everything Lauren Layne has ever published. I’m a forever fan, the girl is just that good. I enjoyed Walk of Shame, but I didn't fall in love.
The hero, Andrew, especially, pulled on my heart strings. He's super smart, still a bit socially awkward, but smoking hot -- what's not to like. The heroine, Georgina, made me want to like her, but I never got quite there. She’s a socialite. There were a lot of brand names thrown around. I get that Layne did this to make Georgina’s level of wealth and style tangible, but it was too name droopy for me and felt shallow. Georgina’s a pro on the fundraiser/cause circuit, but seems unfulfilled which made me feel like she was less than she should be.
The story was paced well, that is, until I got to the last 2%, when something major happened, hastily. The epilogue fast-forwards to one year later. If you're not hoping for an ending where EVERYBODY lives happily ever after, the epilogue will likely feel hyper unrealistic.
All things considered, it’s a Lauren Layne read — plenty of cool characters, a solid plot and top notch writing are a given. This isn’t my favorite of your work, but if you love, love, you’ll likely love this.
I received an ARC of this book, via Net Galley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Sweet, sexy, steamy, funny read! Excellent rom-com with fun characters and just the right amount of angst and steam. Fast read -- didn't want it to end!
