I LOVE Lauren’s books, I’m always so excited when I get the chance to read and review them!
The Love Unexpectedly Series has been truly special too, gifting us with sexy, strong and captivating gentleman who had starred in my dreams ever since.
In this book we meet Georgianna and Andrew, they are complete opposite and even at the beginning when we had no idea what would happen we can feel the tension .
He finds her irritating, she is loud, sparkly and a distraction for his perfect scheduled life, and he can’t seem to get enough of her.
Georgie is sweet, bubbly and loves to stay up all night dancing and partying; and since she can afford it there’s nothing stopping her, until him.
Their battle starts as a bickering war but soon evolves into something else altogether.
Opposite attract takes a whole new meaning in this love story where the characters couldn’t be any more different and at the same time any more compatible.
Andrew was a different kind of alpha, he was awkward and he needed time to understand his feelings and learn what to do with those. He filters everything through his head and sometimes in love you just have to go with your heart. He needs to be strong and surrender himself to a game he has never played. And when he does, there's no stopping him, just WOW an uninhibited Andrew was just too hot to handle, beware!
Georgie is not used to getting so attached to people, she just haves fun and moves on, until she gets lost in Andrew's intense stare and she is having trouble understanding his deal.
A beautiful love story, the characters had an insane attraction and it could be felt through the pages.
The romance comedy queen has done it again! Lauren Layne brings you an ‘opposites attract’ and ‘frenemies to lovers’ romcom featuring a carefree socialite and a jaded divorce attorney in Walk of Shame. Think Enchanted with a mix of Sex and the City—minus the evil queen, sidekick rodents and singing birds bit, because, really. This book made my cheeks hurt from all the grinning because this book would have to be her cutest to date!
Georgiana ‘Georgie’ Watkins might be a rich party girl, but she isn’t your stereotypical socialite. She’s an absolute sweetheart to everyone she knows. All except for her neighbor, Andrew Mulroney, the stoic divorce attorney who lives his life in a routine, which goes against every spontaneous bone in Georgie’s body. Add in the fact that he refuses to call her by her nickname and that he looks at her like she’s the most ‘ridiculous’ thing on the face of the earth.
I can’t express how much I love Georgie and Andrew. So far, these two are my favorite Lauren Layne couple yet. Although Georgie’s lifestyle differed from the typical heroine, she’s not hard to relate to. Despite being an heiress, this cupcake is definitely no spoiled brat. She’s charming, warm-hearted and absolutely lovable, and no doubt you’d surely want to be her best friend. Warming up to Andrew’s character wasn’t easy. He’s a tough nut to crack, and clearly, he's got issues. Think a more cynic version of Patrick Dempsey's character in Enchanted. He's aloof, stoic and adorably awkward when it comes to dealing with Georgie, which often leads to their daily 5 am sarcastic jabs and teasing at the lobby.
Lauren Layne's writing keeps getting better with every book she releases. I adored the romance in this novel, particularly the slow burn between Georgie and Andrew, coupled with hilarious witty banter. I can't stress how much I enjoy Layne's style when it comes to writing slow burn romances and Walk of Shame definitely takes the cake. The only problem I had with this novel was how their problems were resolved nearly a little too quickly.
If you're looking for a quick romcom read, Walk of Shame is the right novel for you. It's sexy, hilarious and has the right amount of angst—everything I look for in a romance! Perfect for fans of Julie James, Jessica Lemmon and Lauren Blakely!
The battle between the sexes has never been so much fun as Lauren Layne's WALK OF SHAME. The story, written in first person, is full of witty banter and lots of sass as party girl Georgie spars with the stuffy and jaded divorce lawyer Andrew each morning.
They live in the same building. She loves to get under his skin and he thinks that she is ridiculous. I liked Georgie right away. She is wealthy and privileged, but she is no mean girl. She is funny and sweet and enjoys her life, but she is at the time of life where things are starting to feel shallow and a romantic life seems out of her grasp. Andrew has preconceived notions of Georgie and sometimes the two sound like they are in middle school.
Things between the two begin to change and the sparks begin to fly. The layers of both characters are peeled back and you see more what's truly inside the two characters. And I loved watching Andrew come alive. The breezy pace and sexy sizzle are what makes Ms Layne a favorite of readers who like sophisticated urban romance. Ridiculous!
3.5 - "Perfectly ridiculous..." Stars!
Lauren Layne returns with the fourth book in her Love Unexpectedly series, as with the previous stories Georgie and Andrew’s enemies-to-lovers tale, is a standalone and you do not have to have read its predecessors.

This was one of those reads where I had to leave reality at the start of chapter one, as a New York socialite Georgie isn’t a character that I would generally have any sort of connection with, I am not fortunate enough to be able to spend my days primping, pampering, doing a bit of fund-raising for those less fortunate than myself when the urge takes, before partying the night away, to return home by five the following morning, in an effort to drive my hot, but extremely stuffy neighbour to distraction as he is leaving home for a day in the office.
The socialite in apartment 86A against the uptight esquire in apartment 79B.
But it was an easy enough story to get into, the chapters were pretty short and Lauren has a way about her writing that draws you in, and luckily things progressed between our H/h at a pretty rapid clip to keep the story moving along albeit in a quite predicable manner, although I did find jumping from 1st for Georgie to third person for Andrew’s POV a little distracting.
"When it comes to you, I seem to make a mess of everything. Because saying nothing at all seemed better than saying the wrong thing…"
Andrew was adorably blunt and uptight, and as the story progresses you get to understand why he appears as stuffy as he is, Georgie was the opposite of that and her effervescence did bounce really well off his dryness, especially as they became more emotionally involved with each other.
"Being in my orbit can get messy."
This was a quick easy read, I won’t lie and say it was some of the authors best work because it wasn’t, but it was entertaining enough to keep me interested, the dual POV although more in Georgie’s favor helped keep both characters accessible, and although I could see where things were going from very early on, I was interested enough to want to see how Georgie and Andrew worked through everything to get their Happily Ever After.

This is a great new story written by Lauren Layne. It is charming and sassy, has great chemistry between the main characters Georgianna Watkins & Andrew Mulroney while the settings in the book are written that they make you feel as if you are right there.
This story was full of passion, of chemistry, of humor, of witty banter—I loved Walk Of Shame!! I couldn’t stop reading once I started and was up until the wee hours of the morning because I had to re-read this fantastic story. Georgie is an heiress yet she isn’t the typical heiress that you would think of. She is a sweetheart and she is kind and smart. She gets a bum rap in the media which makes people think all kinds of bad things about her that aren’t true. She tries to get people to see that she isn’t a bad person and soon people start to see this EXCEPT the stick up his rear divorce attorney Andrew. He says mean things to her or he makes it a point to ignore her- there is no middle ground with him. Andrew is a super smart divorce attorney and grew up like one of those boy genius types. He is successful, rich in his own right yet something about Georgie rubs him the wrong way.
Their relationship starts off rocky but yet their witty banter is their saving grace and the chemistry between them is red hot. I also liked the secondary characters and just how there were some angst and some twists and turns in this RomCom story. It is really complex yet sweet with the layers you undercover as you read thru Georgie and Andrew’s love story. What a great ending for this couple and a beautiful story.
My rating: 4.7 stars ****
"I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book in exchange for an honest review***
"I don't know how to say out loud that there's this guy who doesn't like me and that it bothers me. A lot."
"It wasn't like he wanted to see her, and yet there was something about the woman that got to him."
Ridiculously appealing.
This was an ultimate love/hate romance!!
I fell so quickly in love with Georgie and her quirkiness. The way she was so personable with everyone she met.
Even if it was a stuffed up divorce lawyer that intrigued her.
Andrew had this personality that made me want to know him more.
I knew there was so much more behind the serious faces and determined demeanor.
"Sometimes I don't know what to do with you."
"I know the feeling."
Ridiculously amusing.
These two had me cracking up just as much as they had me screaming at my kindle..."Just do it already!!!!"
The tension between them was so hot!
That first kiss was everything!!!
*muppet flails*
"I know."
"You know what?"
"I know why you're out here with me instead of inside with him."
"You don't know crap. Let me go so I can go be with a guy who actually likes me."
"Not a f**king chance."
Ridiculously wonderful.
I want more!!!
I didn't want Georgie and Andrew's story to end!!!
They were so perfect for each other!!
Their banter was so entertaining.
Between the donuts, the red sneakers, the bonding over the flu, and the 5 a.m. meet-ups, this book was just wonderful!
Thank you, Lauren Layne, for giving us another amazing book about proving once again that love can come unexpectedly.
And that it can be... Perfectly Ridiculous.
"Believe it or not, I had intended to take you out on a date."
"I think I liked this better. We needed to get it out of our system."
"Don't be ridiculous, Georgiana. I am far from done with you."
Enchantingly sexy, flirty and fun to read. Lauren Layne delivers another romance to fall for, keeping us frantically flipping pages with the irresistible chemistry between a socialite who believes in fairytale endings and an uptight, pessimistic divorce lawyer who doesn’t believe in love. Walk of Shame has fabulous sexual tension, snarky sarcasm, and fun banter that will make you swoon, smile and laugh.
Although New York socialite Georgianna Watkins loves to shop by day and party by night, the best part of her day is when the party ends and she accidentally on purpose runs in with the stodgy neighbor who hates her is leaving for his long workday. She’s determined to make him like her, but nothing more. The enjoyment she gets from mocking him and excitement from seeing him every day has nothing to do with her wanting more, or does it? Can she crack the uptight and serious exterior of Andrew Mulroney, Esquire?
Andrew Mulroney didn’t inherit the partner position in his law firm, he earned it with hard work. Something the beautiful Georgianna probably knows nothing about and one of the many reasons he should not be interested in her. He’s also noticed she’s honest, has a sweet, caring heart and sharp wit, which makes her even more attractive even though he knows the two of them don’t make sense together. Besides, he doesn’t have time for relationships. But when one of their early morning arguments ends with an epic kiss, he finds himself wanting more.
Do you remember Giselle from Disney movie Enchanted? She was impossible not to love, right? Lauren Layne captures that essence perfectly in Geogie. I just loved her. She comes from money but isn’t spoiled or snobby. She’s genuine and kind, easy to get along with. She even chatted up and brought doughnut to every morning to her doormen. The only one who didn’t like her was Andrew, who fought tooth and nail against their attraction.
Most would think that Andrew’s life was complete. Smart, good looking, had achieved success at an early age, famous in his own right. But his life was colorless and dreary, right down to his all black workout gear. Well, except for his red sneakers. He was so proper, but got awkward and flustered every time he was around Georgie. It was very endearing.
The writing is wonderful, from the city descriptions that made me feel like I was right there in NY, to being in Georgie’s head. The story has a wonderful flow and the secondary characters are charming. I hope we get a story for Marley!
Walk of Shame is standalone contemporary romance by author Lauren Layne. This is a frenemies to lovers story that has everything I love to read in romantic comedies. It’s adorably fun, delightfully sexy and lighthearted. It is told from both points of view with a happy ending.
I have been a big fan of Lauren Layne for a while now, and I was intrigued by the description. The misunderstood socialite and a divorce lawyer!! I wasn't even sure how this would playout!! But when I started the story, I was honestly blown away by the characters vulnerability and resolve.
When you first start reading about Georgie, you honestly don't think there is anything you can relate too, with the over pampered socialite, but that is not the real Georgie. The real Georgie asks after her concierge and brings them doughnuts. Basically she cares about people! About their lives and families and she wants to share some of their joy, something she seems to be lacking in her own.
Andrew is a tough nut to crack, and you don't really warm up to him, until he accidentally hurts Georgie with his Sharpe tongue and then cracks of compassion starts to poke through.
To say I love this book might just be an understatement, the plot is almost Cinderella like, but rather than needing saving from poverty and hardship, Georgie wants to be loved, for exactly who she is, and damn it! This book reduced me to tears, but then I tend to when reading a Lauren Layne books, as her writing is just SO beautiful.
After all that gushing, there is only once score I could give this book...5 stars!
I didn't finish reading this book at around 52%. Walk of Shame by Lauren Layne was an ok story, but I just didn't like the characters all that much and the lack of a mystery or conflict of some sort made for a lack luster reading that just couldn't keep my interest although the writing style was great, it just needed a reason. I appreciate the opportunity to read the book and Thank Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.
This is the perfect rainy or just a blah day book. Walk of Shame is a book that celebrates fairytales, while still being completely believable and reflective of modern romance.
I found Georgie, our heroine, a breath of fresh air. On the surface Georgie is a shallow party girl who has no shame for her boozy floozy lifestyle. She is also a very nice person who cares about everyone she encounters and goes out of her way to show her appreciation.
Our hero Andrew, is a morally upright "my body is my temple" stick in the mud kind of guy. He is the kind of guy who never thinks about whether or not he cares about people outside his closest family and friends. Andrew is a cold, yet handsome, fish.
I enjoyed the development of our couple's relationship from the snarky encounters in the lobby of their apartment building to their mutual spark heating into a strong romantic relationship.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romances.
I thought this was a cute book. I love opposites attract and this was done really well. While I did love the banter I wish things had progressed romantically a bit sooner. I liked the heroine and she was pretty self aware but she still came across as vapid sometimes, especially due to her age. The fact was, she maintained her party girl status throughout and didn't seem to grow.
I Loved this book. It was funny, and witty and steamy and fun. I love moody Heroes and Andrew was a grouch & Georgie was just the light he needed! It was a wonderful summer read!
Walk of Shame is my first Lauren Layne book and it is now the start of what I think will be a lot more to come. Where has Lauren Layne in my life and why haven't I read anything from her until now? I certainly have been missing out.
I like to think that I'm one that reserves my 5 star ratings for books that are overly emotional or pushes my moral boundaries. Books that seriously make me feel. However, Walk of Shame just inched it's way up to the top ranking with each sarcastic and witty word that was written. I was a goner from the start, just like Georgie and Andrew.
This is a hate to love story, kind of. I don't think Georgie has it in her to actually hate anyone but it certainly has that vibe. From the moment they met, Georgie and Andrew have been battling each other. The "cold war" as Georgie calls it. The whit and banter between these two had me rolling in fits and I couldn't get enough of them. And those moments when things start to shift and they really see each other, I totally swooned. THAT FIRST KISS!!!
I love how opposite these two are from each other yet they both are perfect for each other. They oddly balance each other out and just work. Georgie is sassy, full of life and full of hopes and dreams. She has a big heart and is ultimately looking for that happy ending. Andrew is somewhat uptight, likes order and can kind of be a jerk. Which is because ultimately he's afraid of being hurt. Watching these two banter bank and forth and ultimately realize that they belong together was fun to watch play out.
Overall, I loved this book and I'm so happy that I FINALLY discovered Lauren Layne. If you are looking for that love/hate relationship with some awesome banter and overall swoon worthy moments, then this is the book for you. Get it now!
Socialite Georgianna Watkins has been engaged in a battle of wills with her sexy neighbor, celebrity divorce lawyer Andrew Mulroney, since they both moved in. What happens when the battle lines are blurred by smoking hot sexual attraction? Readers will enjoy the witty banter and fall for the characters. Definitely recommend!
OMG all the feels! Like Mary Poppins this book is practically perfect in every way. Full review to come, but this may be my favourite Lauren Layne novel yet.
Georgiana 'Georgie' Watkins is a wealthy socialite. She and her circle of friends spend their days shopping and making themselves beautiful and their evenings eating and drinking at all the right clubs and bars.
Andrew Mulroney is a lawyer. He gets up at the crack of dawn to go to the gym by 5 am every day, and every day he meets Georgie returning home from her night out. The two of them have been antagonistic towards each other from the day they both moved into the apartment building. Andrew's favourite word for Georgie is "ridiculous" and she just lurves to provoke him into using it. Andrew finds Georgie irritating, vapid, self-indulged, vapid, useless and yet, if he misses seeing her one morning he feels a little disappointed.
There are just so many great scenes in this book, reading it was like eating you favourite creamy, decadent dessert. Light, frothy and utterly delicious.
Loved it, loved it, loved it.

*Slow clap & grinning broadly*
That's what I'm talking about!
This is what I want to see from Lauren Layne, that tongue in cheek humor with a little angst on the side. Her stories have been a mixed experience for me but if this author gets it right, it's amazing.
Georgie is a socialite, she goes out, has fun, does fundraisers and charities and at the end of the day...err...night, at 5 AM in the morning she expects to see her stodgy neighbor, Andrew Mulroney, divorce lawyer and uptight jerk. That man seriously needs to loosen up.
Andrew follows a strict regimen. Every day, Andrew gets up, gets dressed and prepares for the day, which includes working out and meeting his ridiculous neighbor Georgiana at 5 AM when she comes home from another party. You could say they have a standing appointment neither of them knows about. What she doesn't know, though, is that he actually thinks she is sweet and kind.
When he is dragged into a party by Georgie's best friend and against his will they have an actual proper conversation, which - of course it had to - ends on a dare. Georgie would spend a day in Andrew's life and he will prove that she doesn't fit into it. Game on!
This was such a wonderful celebration of love and life itself. Georgie is an amazing heroine with a big heart and positive outlook on life. She is kind to everyone she meets, even Andrew, although he rubs her to wrong way. After all, she knows that he doesn't hold her in the highest regard. Or does he?
***“Georgiana.”
“What?” I snap, turning around. “What can you possibly say that you haven’t said a million times already with every scowl, with every eye roll, with every you’re ridiculous? You think I’m stupid and worthless. I get it.”
The guy’s expression is one tangled knot of emotional constipation. “That’s not what I think.”***
Andrew is totally clueless when it comes to Georgie. She is so far out of his league that he doesn't know what to do with her. It was adorable to see him struggle with his own feelings and his confusion that he liked her so much - the complete opposite of himself.
Being highly intelligent and more the thinker than the feely-touchy type he isn't very good with women either. Scratch that, sometimes he is downright socially awkward and spouts some silly things which can actually hurt the receiving end of his barbs. Which most of the time is his sweet neighbor.
***He couldn’t think about anything except the horrible moment when he’d thought he was making a joke, only to realize the second it left his mouth that it had been downright cruel. Andrew had never been good with women.***
You could also say that being a divorce lawyer Andrew doesn't exactly have positive stance on love and marriage. So what does he have to offer a bubbly, optimistic and sweet woman like Georgie?
***The woman was just so damn vivacious, drawing people to her with every breath. Everyone liked Georgiana. And she’d chosen him. Somehow, this gorgeous, compelling creature seemed to want to spend time with him.***
The witty banter between the main characters, which is a trademark of Lauren Layne's stories, was my favorite thing in this book. I really loved how they always tried to one-up each other. Georgie had a good and reasonable head on her shoulders, which made me fall in love with her even more. I adored Andrew, especially when he got out of his head and let the feelings flow. He also had a decisively bossy side to him, which was rather hot.
I love this author's stories when she gets them right and this one was definitely a winner for me. Dear Ms. Layne, please keep writing wonderful books like this one and I'll be your forever happy reader.
Except for the weird cover, Walk of Shame was like a perfect cupcake of a book: sweet, fluffy, fresh and delicious. I devoured this giddily romantic ode to the movie Enchanted (which I've never seen) and didn't want it to end. It reminded me of those classic romantic comedies full of banter and heat, only Cary Grant is played by uptight divorce attorney Andrew and Georgie is an adorable Audrey Hepburn/Doris Day. This may be my favorite Lauren Layne book to date.
As much as I loved the crackling humor and heat between Georgie and Andrew, the end was really what made this book come together. Now that was a good Grand Romantic Gesture/Big Declaration of Love. I loved how Andrew finally redeemed himself and won his happily ever after girl.
I love an opposites attract book because it’s always so much fun trying to figure who will compromise- and what they’ll compromise – to end up with the love of their life.
WALK OF SHAME is a classic opposites attract love story.
Socialite and pampered partygirl princess Georgie Watkins is living the dream life of any 20-something New Yorker. Dancing till dawn with friends and enjoying life, she starts to think she might be missing something a little more important in her life. When new neighbor Andrew Mulroney moves into her building the same day she does, it starts a little friendly war of words and barbs that show just how much they are different. She’s coming in from a night on the town at exactly the same time he is off starting his work day. Every day.
Both are drawn to the other for purely different reasons( of course!) but they struggle with finding the equal playing field they need.
This was a good story, as all Lauren Layne books are. Witty, quick, and cute. It’s told in two opposing viewpoints ( of course!), with Georgianna in first person and Andre in third. Luckily, the chapter headings gave you a clue when the POV shifts occur.
Another great read from a fun, flirty and prolific author. I highly recommend this for a fab summer read.
Another Lauren Layne winner. I have realized the theme of the characters in her books are usually strong women, who do not need a man, but find men who are their equals and the chemistry in the relationship is point on. This one will not disappoint, although the ,main character who does not appear to work, has money and does a lot of volunteer work, came across as a ditz in the beginning certainly has a lot of time on her hands to annoy her attractive neighbor who is a lawyer. The dialogue between the two is humorous and how she inserts herself in his life is really bold. This is another engaging story about two people who could not be better suited for another and how they end up together. I liked the clever references to The Wizard of Oz, and really enjoyed this one. I think this is a part of a series so cannot wait for the next one.
