I felt so much for Maggie. She was devastated after the death of her person and has no interest in going through that again. Well surprise, here's Drew to ruin all of those plans. I appreciated that this was a slow burn where they really got to know one another instead of hopping right in. They both were nursing a heartbreak at the beginning and were cautious. I wasn't expecting this book to be so emotional but I'm glad it was. Thank you to Netgalley for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I have been waiting for this book; I wanted this story ever since the moment the hero arrived on the scene in the last book. I immediately felt the sparks between the hero and heroine and knew their story would be a battle, but in the end it would be so worth it and I was not wrong. This couple was a bit messed up, they have baggage, hell their baggage has baggage, but together they manage to unpack it and find their way, and I LOVED every single minute of Can’t Fight This Feeling.
Three years after her husband’s death from cancer Maggie McShae is trying to move on or at least trying to get on with her life and be more than a psychologist and mother, so that includes dating and with that possibly more, but she is having trouble finding a guy, one that gives her sparks, although if she is entirely honest there is someone who gives her sparks but he is all wrong for her in so many ways.
After walking away from his high profile wedding, Andreas (Drew) Spikonos has been hiding out in Mirror Lake and helping his biological brothers with their fledgling business and while he doesn’t think he can ever trust another woman again, something in Maggie calls to him and even though he knows he is not the right kind of man for her, he can’t help but think about her.
There is so much about this couple that I adore including the witty banter, the crazy chemistry they want to deny, their past relationships that have scarred them in different ways, and the fact they both think they can never truly love someone else again. Over time they begin to see everything that makes the other special and grow to appreciate everything about one another. Their mutual admiration grows throughout this story and that grows to more despite the fact they both try to deny it time and time again.
This book had so much depth, quite a few twists and turns, but most of all it had a whole lot of love. Sweet, sassy, funny but also emotional, I loved Can’t Fight This Feeling.
This is the story of Maggie McShae, a widowed, single and somewhat overprotective mother of a four-year-old boy, Griffin. Still recovering from the loss of her husband three years prior, she is fighting an inner battle to return to the world of dating. The author mentions her having OCD but it seems more accurate that she has some traits and when stressed becomes a little more of a control freak. At her core, Maggie is afraid; afraid to lose her son, afraid to find a new partner and both betray her late husband and risk the pain of loss again. Drew Poulos is running from his former life, one where he left an arranged bride at the altar and was working in his family's business. His brother is about to marry his ex-girlfriend who he stole without apology from Drew, and his father wants him back at work. Drew is avoiding them quite successfully in Mirror Lake with his biological brothers until it's time to return home for a family wedding.
This book hooked me from the beginning. There are some wonderful, humorous exchanges between Maggie and Drew that pull the reader in from the onset. While there are references to previous stories in the series, this book can be read as a stand alone.
No words...
Drew and Maggie got me hooked all the way throughout the book. Laughed and cried with them. Loved it. I received an ARC at no cost from the author.
After reading Roman's story, I knew that Drew's story would be equally amazing. Four Spikinos brothers, seperated and placed in foster care in their early childhood are reunited years later in Mirror falls. Three of the four brothers are back and Drew has come back after running away from his bride to be at the alter. He has spent a year hiding out and helping out his brother with his apple cider business.
Now he must reurn home to the family that raised him and watch his brother Xander marry his ex-girlfriend Sonda. To try and keep the peace, he invites Maggie a psychologist who he believes may help relieve family tension. Their fakes dating becomes all too real, and Maggie cannot cope as she is still trying to deal with the loss of her husband to cancer three years ago. This has made her very overprotective of her young son Griffin.
This was such a beautiful slow burn romance, I loved Drew's interactions with Griffin and the letter she recieves left me absolutely sobbing. So much emotion throughout. I received an ARC for my honest review.
I'm always on the edge of my seat when I finish reading the start of a series that I absolutely love, anticipating the second book, just hoping to meet my high expectations. Well, I'm so excited that Can't Stop This Feeling, the second book in Miranda Liasson's Spikonos series kept that awesomeness going with us diving more in the quirky Maggie and that delicious Drew.
I'm on the fence with telling you that this could be a stand alone. I guess it could but you wouldn't get everything you need that would appreciate it as much as you would've had you read the first book. For those of you who are new to the series, Maggie is definitely a one of a kind personality. As much as Maggie says she wants to move on, the one person that truly will always make her heart skip a beat is her late husband, who tragically died. She is making it through life with her young son but definitely could use a little love to brighten her days. There hasn't been anyone that came close to even igniting a spark until that rugged billionaire Drew came to town and changed her outlook from single lady to potential future.
Drew has had his share of heart break. First his brother gets involved with his girlfriend and then his father convinces him for the sake of business to get involved with a gal that wasn't right for him, he goes AWOL and ends up laying low trying to piece his life together. Seeing Maggie as only a friend, by the way who is also friends with his brother and his wife, needs a date to his brother's wedding. This is the brother who is getting married to his former love. So, you know that will be definitely awkward. Seeing that she has a calming way about her, invites her to an opportunity to be sort of mediator/date to keep the family calm. Maggie, being a psychologist, has a great way of putting people at ease which to Drew's surprise has an effect on him.
As the family drama unravels, Maggie and Drew find their broken hearts bonding in ways that neither one of them would've thought of. Drew doesn't exactly trust women and Maggie well, wants love but is afraid to jump in too deep. They say some people come into your life for a reason, will this two mend each other's broken hearts? I know the answer but I will let you enjoy the journal to find out.
Overall, Can't Fight This Feeling is just simply awesome. Miranda is such an awesome author who knows how to tell a story well. For this book in particular, I love second chance romances but both these characters had deep rooted pain that their journey was so compelling to follow. I love how she gets to their core but more important have struggles that will resonate with her readers. I love how these two were paired together because they both had stories that needed to be told.
We always see women getting cheated on but here's a guy who got his heart broken that left him unable to trust. We see his pain and his walls come down to not let their fear get in the way of trying to love. Maggie, who has a child and lost her husband, not seeing that there there is so much more of life to live and true love is possible, a second time around. She'd rather find someone that she can't really love because it is too painful but seeing her break down her walls to see her pain dissipate is something many women can connect with. The guilt of letting go and letting love in, really makes you find excited for her life transition.
I love how there is an authenticity to their relationships and find them to easy to connect with. You can't help but fall in love with them and want to know what's going to happen next. I have to say towards the end I thought the book was going to go another way but was very satisfied with the hea. I can't help raving about Miranda and this book. I'm excited to see what comes next. I definitely recommend if you haven't read the first book, grab it and then read this one.
It's beyond me how a book with less than 300 pages could be filled with so much drama. I might as well have read a soap opera. Drew needs a date for his brother's wedding and Maggie was something with no strings so they join forces to get what they want. That is the easy and light part. Did you know that Drew has a history with his brother's fiance? As if that wasn't enough we have Drew's "loving" father into the mix. That part is Drew's drama. Maggie has her own and to be honest it bothered me because it tainted for no reason her memories of Corey. I feel like that plotline wasn't needed and could be easily removed. I could handle some drama, but not all of it. For me, the book would have worked better if Drew had spent more time with Maggie's son and if he and Maggie had a couple more romantic scenes together. The characters we mediocre and for me, they didn't have enough development. I wouldn't be recommending this book.
Maggie knows that it’s okay to move on. Her husband Corey died over three years ago, and no one expects her to mourn forever. She and Corey were high school sweethearts, and Maggie struggles to imagine a life without him. Her focus is on her preschool son, whom she worries about to an extreme.
What Maggie wants is a fling. No commitment, no emotional ties. Just some hot headboard rocking. When she meets Drew, a billionaire last seen fleeing his high profile wedding, she isn’t all that impressed with the man, but she does like the body. Maybe Drew would do.
Drew has his own needs, namely a date for his brother’s wedding. That’s a whole other kerfuffle, as emotionally laden an affair as you’ll find. Maybe Maggie will agree to go.
What neither anticipates is that this arrangement will turn into something more.
There is an emotional tug underlying the fun. Maggie may be a psychologist specializing in relationships, but there is a “physician heal thyself” element to her. Drew sees what Maggie cannot: her reasons for not being able to move on from Corey have less to do with her love for her husband more to do with how little she knows about herself.
Miranda Liasson packs more soap operatic twists and turns into this thing than the best episode of Days of Our Lives. Not much of it may be surprising – some of the plot points can be spotted pages away – but she sure makes it fun. Drew and Maggie are adorable and likable, and theirs is an adorable, likable relationship. Liasson employs the “fade to black” approach when it comes to the sexy times, which only adds to the adorable likability of this book.
This is a lovely story that made me laugh out loud ( Drew's family...!!). and made me sniffle. I love books by this author and look forward to more in this series.
Psychologist, Maggie McShae lost her husband Corey 3 1/2 years ago. Her head is saying it is ok for her to date and move on but her heart won't let her. She decides she should just have a fling to get herself back in the game.
Ted Kaczynski called off his wedding while he was at the alter. He doesn't want a business merger for his marriage. He believes he is still in love with his ex-girlfriend, who is now engaged to is brother, Xander. This story is full of laughs when Ted pays Maggie to be his date at his brother's wedding. It will make you self reflect how you would feel if your spouse or significant other died at a very young age. Would you put them up on a pedestal? Would you be able to move on? Miranda Liasson's writing even moved me to tears. You really have to read this book! I received an arc of this book and I chose to write an honest review.
Can't Fight This Feeling is the first book I've read by Miranda Liasson but won't be my last. She creates such unique characters & the story captures your interest from the very first page.
Can't Fight This Feeling is the second book in the Spikonos Brothers series but can be read as a stand alone.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Maggie is a psychologist and single mom raising her 4 year old son, Griffin alone after the death of her husband and Griffin's father, Corey. She is somewhat OCD, especially when it comes to her son, Griffin. She is definitely a helicopter mom. Her first encounter with Drew is when he crashes a group session with her clients while trying to escape a reporter who is trailing him. He left his fiancé at the altar. Granted, the marriage wasn't his idea. His very strong-willed Greek adoptive father arranged the marriage to combine two business empires. Drew comes to Mirror Lake to hide out with his biological brothers and finds that, even though he is a millionaire, he likes working in their apple brandy business. Meeting Maggie is an added benefit.
Drew needs a date for his adopted brother's wedding. His brother just happens to be marrying Drew's former girlfriend . . . The one he thought he would marry. He decides that taking a psychologist as his date could be helpful in dealing with his rather dysfunctional family as well as his own feelings. Maggie isn't interested in the date, but Drew doesn't give up. He finally tells her he will pay her to go to the wedding with him. She says, "My going rate (as a psychologist) is $175 an hour." Drew offers to double that and finally tells her he will pay her $400 an hour to go with him. Being a single mother, Maggie can't afford to pass up that much money. The wedding is just the beginning. Drew finds himself falling for Maggie, but she doesn't want to take a chance on having Griffin become attached to Drew and then possibly losing him like he lost his father. She is really pretty messed up for a psychologist.
Maggie and Drew's courtship is anything but normal . . . And I enjoyed every minute of it.
I received an ARC for giving my honest review. I loved this book. It held my attention from page one to the end. I hated for it to end. That is the sign of a good book . . . You never want it to end. Miranda Liasson never disappoints.
This was a great story. I enjoyed the interaction between Maggie and Drew. Their families gave the story extra support. This was a second chance romance. Maggie lost her husband to cancer. She is on the mend but over protective of everything and everyone. Drew who is hiding out having left his soon to be bride at the alter. It was an arranged marriage that he wised up from at the last minute. Drew needs a date to his brother's wedding and Maggie goes along. Drew has ties to his brother's fiance. He needs Maggie to distract him from the girl he thinks he is still in love with. Neither expected to be attracted to each other. Drew finds that he has moved on and Maggie is the one that he wants now.
Miranda Liasson has captured my attention in Can’t Fight This Feeling! This is a book that you will NOT want to put down until the end and then you keep wanting more.
Maggie McShae lost her husband 3 ½ years ago and has made her whole world her 4 year old son. She is a counselor who is good at helping others through the difficult times, but has problems with her own.
Drew Poulas was running from an arranged marriage to a socialite he just left at the altar.
Meeting under unusual circumstances and both not wanting a ‘real’ relationship, they decided to join forces when Drew’s brother, Xander is marrying Drew’s former girlfriend, Sondra.
Spending a long weekend at Drew’s parents Greenwich estate with his brother (and of course Sondra) his parents (who are divorced), his little sister, a jealous dog and the wide open space proves too much of an ‘uncouple’ who had so much chemistry between them that you just knew something had to happen. And oh did it......
From the beginning when you get to know Maggie and Drew until the end when they get to know themselves and each other, you will laugh and cry plus want to shake these interesting people. You find out Corey (Maggie’s saintly deceased husband wasn’t so saintly) to Drew isn’t the ladies’ man that Maggie thinks, little Griffin (Maggie’s 4 year old son) asking if Drew had a sleepover with Maggie to Griffin actually asking Maggie if Drew can sleepover every night.
Of course, what kind of a romance story would it be if they didn’t find they belonged together?
Join in the fun and romance of Maggie and Drew and their whole family. You won’t be disappointed.
Wow! I was not prepared for all these feelings. When Maggie talked about her deceased husband I was brought to tears. I really felt what Maggie was feeling, which is the mark of a great book. I was also quite fond of Drew and I wished I had read the first book in the series to find out a little more about what happened to bring him to Mirror Lake. He came with quite a lot of baggage, but Maggie is the perfect woman to help him out. Maggie's son Griffin was completely adorable. It was really easy to identify with Maggie because I am also a supreme worrier and sometimes it can take a lot for me to take a chance when I'd rather just play it safe. Can't wait to read the first book in this series.
What a wonderful story! Maggie is trying to move on and start living again after being a widow for over 3 years with a young son. Drew is hiding out from his family and the world really after leaving his bride at the alter. But he must face his past and asks Maggie to go with him to his brother's wedding. His brother is marrying a woman that dumped Drew and he's still in love with her. So many laugh out loud moments in this book and tears too as Maggie tries to come to grips with moving on with another man. I voluntarily read an advanced e-copy of this book for an honest review.
I had trouble connecting with this story at first but after I got through the first chapter, I was hooked. I felt for Maggie as she struggled to let go of her hurt and take those first steps to move forward with her life since her husband’s death 3 years ago. The banter between her and Drew was cute and had me cracking up at times. I really enjoyed this story and these characters. I look forward to reading more by this author.
This was a DNF...I was not able to connect with the characters and as the story went along, I was less and less convinced of their chemistry.
