Maggie is turned off by Drew's playboy reputation and the way he left his bride at the altar. Drew is turned off by the happily ever after that Maggie and her son need. Heartbreak has forced both of them to shy away from relationships, but there is something that draws these two together. Drew and Maggie are proof that you can find love when and where you least expect it. I've loved this series, and even though they can be read as standalones, I highly recommend you read about all of the Spikonos brothers. Can't wait for the last brother to rejoin the family!
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. I was not compensated for this review, all conclusions are my own.
"Can't Fight This Feeling" by Miranda Liasson. This tells the story of Drew and Maggie. Drew tries to be the tough guy while recovering from some hurts in his past. Maggie, also suffering from heartache, has decided to have a fling to move on after her husband's passing. I liked Drew a lot. He was true to himself, even if he fought it at times and had to fight others too. While I liked Maggie - she's a wonderful mom and a really good friend, she did annoy me at times as I found her to be a bit immature sometimes. Still, overall, she's a sweet and kind and goodhearted person that I wouldn't mind calling a friend. I liked the story line of how these two came to be. I would have liked to have seen a bit more interaction with Drew and her son but enjoyed that the main focus of the story was Drew and Maggie. Ms. Liasson has a fluid writing style that was easy to read and kept a good pace. I look forward to future works by this authorand plan to read the previous books in this series (which I don't believe need to be read to enjoy this one)
(received copy for honest review)
Maggie is a widower, single mom, friend, and psychologist. Maggie is also EXTREMELY high-strung with a little case of OCD. Maggie goes to extremes relationship-wise. Maggie lost the love of her life to cancer, so she decides to play it safe. She decides to date guys who are a safe bet. She goes on a couple of dates with a fireman, but doesn't "feel" like she does when she's around Drew.
Drew is hiding out in Mirror Lake after leaving his fiancé at the altar. Drew initially agreed to an arranged marriage, set up by his dad, after his ex dumped him for his brother! While in Mirror Lake, Drew helps his brothers start up their Apple Brandy Bar. During this time, he meets Maggie. He finds her funny, but annoying and high-strung. When Drew observes Maggie break up a bar fight with words, he gets a crazy idea that maybe she can help his family overcome some of their issues. Drew makes a deal with Maggie to be his "plus one" for his brother's weekend wedding.
As Drew and Maggie spend more time together, Drew becomes convinced that Maggie is "the one". Now he just has to convince her! I don't know how to express how much I truly enjoyed this novel. It was heartbreaking to see Maggie struggle with moving on with Drew. While Drew was kind, patient, supportive, and caring until Maggie said "goodbye" to her husband, she couldn't give herself permission to move on with her life. I also adored Drew's possessive dog, Genny. This novel was a journey of love, discovery, and embracing life. I highly recommend this novel! I read a gifted copy and all opinions stated are my own.
In an Oyster Shell - A steamy heartwarming romance.
The Pearls - The characters were my favorite part of this story they were strong and distinguished. Maggie is a strong heroine almost to a fault. It's nice to see in the romance. She kind of is more of the dictator in what happens which is not always the case. The hero Drew had quite a bit of character growth.
The small town setting was nice. Mirror lake seems like a quaint town. The characters that come around in this little town make the book comical at times. They add a nice depth to the story.
I liked the romance from Drew's side of thing he is a playboy that wants to reform with Maggie. Maggie helps heal some hurts. Maggie is not as strong or fast in the healing department and it takes her longer to get on board. It was frustrating at times like she took Drew for granted. Drew hung in there and the ending is satisfying.
The Sand - Maggie was really stubborn at times and it became infuriating at times. She was unreasonable and irrational on occasion. I didn't like that.

My Review:
I loved this bright and shiny book so much I had marked reams of favorite quotes. I adored these endearing, quirky, and tenderhearted characters, although Maggie’s OCD often took her more than a bit beyond quirky and well into the neurotic. But I am a smitten kitten with the Spikonos brothers – they are divine. Ms. Liasson’s narrative is refreshingly crisp, lively, comical, heart-squeezing, insightful, and tons of fun. Her work sparkles with humor and sizzles with undercurrents of sensual attraction and steamy bits. I was rapturously engaged and delightfully entertained throughout.
I have been waiting for this book; I wanted this story ever since the moment the hero arrived on the scene in the last book. I immediately felt the sparks between the hero and heroine and knew their story would be a battle, but in the end it would be so worth it and I was not wrong. This couple was a bit messed up, they have baggage, hell their baggage has baggage, but together they manage to unpack it and find their way, and I LOVED every single minute of Can’t Fight This Feeling.
Three years after her husband’s death from cancer Maggie McShae is trying to move on or at least trying to get on with her life and be more than a psychologist and mother, so that includes dating and with that possibly more, but she is having trouble finding a guy, one that gives her sparks, although if she is entirely honest there is someone who gives her sparks but he is all wrong for her in so many ways.
After walking away from his high profile wedding, Andreas (Drew) Spikonos has been hiding out in Mirror Lake and helping his biological brothers with their fledgling business and while he doesn’t think he can ever trust another woman again, something in Maggie calls to him and even though he knows he is not the right kind of man for her, he can’t help but think about her.
There is so much about this couple that I adore including the witty banter, the crazy chemistry they want to deny, their past relationships that have scarred them in different ways, and the fact they both think they can never truly love someone else again. Over time they begin to see everything that makes the other special and grow to appreciate everything about one another. Their mutual admiration grows throughout this story and that grows to more despite the fact they both try to deny it time and time again.
This book had so much depth, quite a few twists and turns, but most of all it had a whole lot of love. Sweet, sassy, funny but also emotional, I loved Can’t Fight This Feeling.
I loved every second of this sweet romance between two unlikely people.
While others will give you a summary of the story, I will go a different direction.
This is a story for people who understand that life is messy. That love is not always easy to find, to hold onto, to let go and to find it again.
it’s a story that will grasp you by the shoulders, and will at times give you heart wrenching moments. A story in which you will want to reach into the pages and just hug and support the characters for what they have experienced , and tell them they are loved and that things will indeed get better. As well as tell them that life is precious and second chances do exist.
Suffice is to say that when you think Ms Liasson has reach her peak as an author, she proves you wrong. She continues to excel and shine as an author and storyteller.
Thank you Ms LIasson for sharing your wonderful talent. I look forward to more of your stories.
This book was gifted to me by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own
Can't Fight This Feeling has it all: sexy, sweet hero, a sweet, kind heroine, an adorable little boy, lots of chemistry and a well rounded cast of secondary characters.
Drew has been hiding out in Mirror Lake, with the brothers he's been newly reunited, since he left his fiancée at the altar. He has a reputation for being a spoiled, rich playboy, but in reality, he's much more than his reputation. He's actually a great guy with a big heart who was betrayed by someone he loved and has had his heart in chains ever since. Maggie is a psychologist and a widow with a little boy, and she misses her husband terribly. But, it's been 3 1/2 years and Maggie knows she has to move on and get back into the dating game. Having Drew witness her disastrous attempt at setting up a fling is embarrassing, not the least because she certainly can't stand the sexy man with beautiful eyes and a hard body honed by all the manual labor he's been undertaking since his arrival in Mirror Lake.
Drew and Maggie clash, and you know what clash means in romance terms: sparks! Yep, they have those in spades. When Drew hears Maggie asking, and being rejected by, a guy for sex, he decides to give her advice. She doesn't really heed it, but the moment germinates a seed in both of them. When they decide to embark upon a no strings relationship, of course we all know it won't stay that way, and the journey their relationship takes is entertaining, funny, sexy and sweet.
I really enjoyed the world Miranda has created and I can't wait for more!
I thoroughly enjoyed Drew and Maggie's bumpy and winding road to romance. Drew is an interesting character because while it seems he has everything a man could want with his gorgeous looks and all that family money but underneath his cocky exterior lies the heart of a man who has had his share of knocks in life. He and his brothers have happily reunited as adults after being separated as young children and while Drew was adopted by a wealthy family, he's hiding out in Mirror Lake and avoiding going home. Maggie is a beautiful and successful psychologist and a recent widow with a young son and struggles with a bad case of OCD. She would love to wrap herself and her son Griffin in a thick layer of bubble wrap to avoid feeling the debilitating pain of losing her husband but she's unwilling to risk either of their broken hearts. Will Maggie and Drew be able to overcome their fears and risk everything for an all consuming love, or are they both destined to play it safe? Their entertaining story is well written with interesting supporting characters and plenty of family drama that I absolutely loved. I read a complimentary copy of this book on NetGalley and all opinions expressed in my voluntary review are completely my own.
You first read about Drew and Maggie and their love-hate relationship in the first book Can't Stop Loving You but now its their story.
So much tension, angst, tears, moving on with life and not wanting to fall in love again but.....Once you start this book you will not be able to put it down until the very last page...(sigh)
Received this ARC for honest review with no compensation, and what a book it is! ! Looking forward to more books in this series! Miranda Liasson has done it again....Thank you for another awesome book! !
Can't Fight This Feeling was a good HEA romance. It is a stand alone, though now I want to read book #1 of the Spikonos Brothers Books, Can't Stop Loving You to learn more about everyone's past and read Bella and Roman's story. I enjoyed reading about Maggie overcoming the tragedy that had befallen her. Drew also was no stranger to rough times, even with him being a billionaire. I also liked that his money was not the main focus of the story. If you are looking for a good, fun contemporary romance read try a book from Mrs. Liasson. I think you will enjoy reading her work. I received a copy of this story through NetGalley and was not compensated in any way for either a positive or negative review.
This was an excellent contemporary romance. Drew was adopted when he was young but has several biological brothers. Slowly they start finding one another but Drew was raised by a billionaire couple and was expected to follow in the family business. He had several very personal relationships that when ended left him hurt and angry. Maggie is a widowed psychiatrist raising her young son. She has been through terrible loss but she and Drew meet. They both have many issues to overcome. I enjoyed the way the author draws readers into the emotional issues the main characters struggle to overcome. I received a complementary copy of this book via NetGalley and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Liasson's books in this series as well as others.
Was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book by one of my favorite authors. It is based in her fictional Mirror Lake community which I have grown to love so much.
This was kind of a slow burn romance for me initially as it took a while for me to warm to both Maggie and Drew's characters. I think this was because even though it was obvious to me right away the powerful chemistry they both had with each other it took much longer to see what made Maggie and Drew tick and why they would also be a good love match.
However about 30% in, this book just really took off for me and I totally had my good book buzz going and I fell in love with both the storyline and Maggie and Drew. In fact this book just got better and better, it became compulsive reading.
Miranda's stories really do highlight everything I love in a good book and I do recommend getting to know this author. I also suggest starting with her earlier books in this series for more context even though all her books are standalones.
This was a rather predictable romance. What made it different wasn’t really explored by the author. The heroine, Maggie, is a widow and a psychologist with a four-year old son. She hasn’t recovered emotionally from the tragic early death of her husband. The hero, Drew Poulos, is hanging out in their small Connecticut town because he has fled his billionaire family after abandoning the bride his adopted father picked out for him at the wedding. Drew has just met up with his actual brothers who also live in the same town.
I didn’t read the first book in this series so I wasn’t familiar with the backstory of how the three brothers got separated and found each other, but now they’re all together and good friends. Drew has left working for his adopted father’s yogurt company and is now working with his blood brothers to market apple brandy. Drew is constantly referred to as a billionaire, but it was never clear if he just had this money because his adopted family gave it to him since he doesn’t seem to be working at the company even though his father would like him to. So I never got how he was a billionaire. I know that it’s all the craze that romance heroes have to be billionaires (a millionaire is just too ordinary these days in romance novels), but usually the hero actually has a job or some reason why he has all this money.
Drew asks Maggie to accompany to a family wedding where his adopted brother is marrying the woman that Drew had thought was the love of his life until he went away to get an MBA at Harvard and she abandoned him for his older brother. I guess Massachusetts was just too far away from Connecticut for her. Drew hopes that Maggie’s skills as a therapist will help his dysfunctional family. And besides, she’s hot.
And she’s also, apparently, a mess because, in addition to her grief and fear of ever loving and losing again, she has OCD. We know this because we’re told this over and over. But there was never any indication of how her OCD manifested itself except for her worrying over her son’s safety and worrying about turning off the oven when she leaves home.
So there were a lot of possibilities that could have made the book really interesting but never seemed to get going. Drew’s tensions with his adopted family didn’t seem that bad and got resolved rather easily. Maggie seemed to fall for Drew and then push him away. I thought the idea of a OCD heroine could have been interesting, but it seemed like just some mix and match characteristic that the author put in there, just as she labeled the hero a billionaire without any more plot development.
The book was fine, but just rather ordinary. I felt like there was a better book buried in there that just didn’t come out.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Fun, Whitty, Passionate, thoughtful, suspenseful, unique.
Drew is a billionaire in hiding. His life wasn't going the way he wanted and he walked away. But at what cost? Is he really living or is he just hiding from the perfect storm called love?
Maggie is the woman trying to move forward with her life. After the loss of her first love and husband to cancer. The only person she allows her self to love is her son. But she can't stop her basic need and she thinks it's time to move forward but she doesn't want strings.
Drew needs help to remain sane during his brother's upcoming wedding weekend. Maggie is the perfect date because she is a shrink. So he requests that she accompany him to help him stay sane and help his family be whole again. But he ends up with more than they both bargained for.
The hot and cold between Maggie and Drew can be mind blowing at time. I understand Maggie but I don't full comprehend her. Drew is a saint. First his ex, now Maggie. Always having to compete with other men. Even dead ones. But it is a beautiful story.
I really enjoyed this book. I was mad as heck at Alyssa. I loved and hated Maggie. Drew was complex yet stunning.
Drew and Maggie had a sweet story that I really liked. When Drew asks Maggie to come home for his brother's wedding to be a buffer you had no true idea what Drew was meaning. That family was nuts! I enjoyed the dynamics and drama and what wedding would not be fun when the bride stops it to say she wants the best man.
Maggie was level headed and poised. Loved how she handled Drew's family. These two try so hard not to want or need one another. Maggie doesn't ever want to allow herself to hurt like she did when she lost her husband to cancer. Love how they just couldn't resist each other. A roller coaster of emotions but the read was worth it.
Can't Fight This Feeling is a wonderful story full of emotion. Emotion that comes from letting go of the past and looking toward the future. Easier said than done at times but always needed to have a full life. Maggie McShae is a young, vibrant, beautiful woman who has built up emotional walls around herself and her young son after losing her husband. Certain she can never find another love worth risking that type of heartbreak again. Yet she's young and dating again seems inevitable so she'll stick with safe and easy. Drew Poulos is neither of those things but he makes her long for things she's been missing. He's suffered his own heartbreak and isn't looking for any relationship. Perhaps that would make him the perfect.....fling.
These characters are fantastic. Maggie is a bit quirky, a little OCD, and a lot of fun. Drew is sexy, fun, a just a little insecure when it comes to his family. Their story is one you don't want to miss. I highly recommend it.
Home. How can such a simple word play such an integral part in the way we view the world, others and even ourselves? Can’t Fight This Feeling is the culmination of a bond between friends, brothers and family whether by blood or through love family and love. What began as the heartbreaking journey of three brothers finding their way back to each other has morphed into something bigger. Maturity, insight and forgiveness has allowed the once estranged Spikonos brothers to open their hearts and find love and hope in the most unlikely of places.
With Can’t Fight this Feeling, Ms. Liasson gives a glimpse into the world of money, power and privilege through the eyes of Drew Poulos, runaway groom. Wealthy does not necessarily mean happy. Now the golden boy has to decide, if his life of means is worth giving up the woman of his dreams. Maggie and Drew’s road is paved with insecurities, heartache, loss and sacrifice but it also brings rewarding experiences. Mirror Lake is not just a fictional town. Visiting is like coming home.
