A funny, offbeat children's book that is sure to elicit giggles from kids and adults alike.
Super funny book. I would say kids of all ages would love it but it seems more geared toward maybe the 7 to 10 range by the larger words used, In the book Eccentric Dr. Pookie who is a bear by the way leaves the busy town of Little Royal Forest to move to the top of Bear Mountain, basically for some peace and quiet. Dr. Pookie is a quite famous bear, for his good deeds to his good looks and more. But not all the gossip is nice, so he moved.
Once settled in Dr. Pookie decides to throw a dinner party for his friends from Little Royal Forest. This is where the true adventure begins. Dr. Pookie looses his thought. His friends decide to help him find it. The adventure is hilarious.
This is such a fun story,a t times I had a hard time reading it to the kids for my own laughter. Izzy Church has done a wonderful job with this book. I will be on the look out for more of her books,
"Dr. Pookie and the Case of His Missing Thought" by Izzy Church is a really great book for perhaps children in Grade 3 or 4 and also adults as I found the book itself appealing too. Who hasn't forgotten what they meant to say at one time or another? This story was so humorous and I think it will definitely appeal to people of all ages.
I received a copy of this book from the publishers via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Just awful. Can hardly work out what is going on half the time. DNF as the book DNStart.
Dr. Pookie and the Case of His Missing Thought is a cute book for children with a positive message about friendship and cooperation.
The story is about a brown bear named Dr. Pookie who lives in a cave, but not just any cave. This cave is the best one in the entire Little Royal Forest. Dr. Pookie invites all his forest friends over to his cave for a party. They have a great time and Dr. Pookie tells them a story about the time he lost his thought.
The story has a theme of friendship and helping each other out. Dr. Pookie has a sometimes gruff manner, but his friends put up with him and his bear moods. They even help him out when he loses his thought and can’t find it anywhere. He gets help from Scoozie the crow, Squirm the squirrel, and Neeko the fox, among others.
The book is illustrated, but the drawings are few when compared to books for younger readers. The drawings are cute and show each animal’s character. The bear has claws and can show his teeth when he’s mad, the crow wears a scarf and the squirrels have long rodent teeth, etc.
I read a digital version and there are handy links whenever a new, big word is introduced. There is even a pronunciation guide for each defined word. This will allow young readers to learn the meanings of these new words and increase their vocabulary. It’s easy enough to click on the link, read the definition, and then go back to where you were in the text. I used Adobe Digital Editions for reading it. Your functionality might vary by device.
The story is short and appropriate for young readers, but not new readers as there is a lot of text and big words that new readers will not understand. It would be OK as a book that a parent reads to a younger child though. As the child grows older and gains more reading skill, they can then start to read the story on their own.
In summary, I think this is a cute story with a good, positive message and that it will appeal to the young reader. I wish there were more illustrations, but that doesn’t detract too much from the overall impression I got of the book.
I’d like to thank NetGalley, the author, and the publisher, for the advance reader copy I received for my honest review.
Having two younger siblings can be tough, and especially if you parents think that if you are book blogger you should know what to read the 7 & 9-year old before sleep or just at the read-a-book time.
Thus me, who loved Sci-fi and a good fantasy, was bound to search the internet and look through my favourite authors' books to find a suitable children's book. Some time ago, I have come across Izzy church's first book: Angry Movie Guy, and loved it, when I was looking through my website, I found out that she has published another book, and oh Joy, a children's book at that!
Let's just say, that me a 22-year-old fell in love with the book. It was fun, creative, the writing style was fantastic, and I finished the book in several hours!
However, my siblings loved the book too much, Every time I am picking them up from school or coming back home from Univerisity, they rush to ask me to read them the book. The older one already started reading it by herself, and the other day I found her with my tablet reading the story out loud to her toys. It was great! Now, they are making me order them a paperback each, as I usually read to them on my tablet.
In conclusion, this book is fantastic for you to read to your kids, and for your kids to start reading for themselves! it offers a fantastic vocabulary and scenery to the kids, but that's a given with the way the author describes the characters, the forest and just everything!
Enjoy this book with or without your kids, but I would recommend your get this book even if your kid is still small! Trust me, you'll enjoy it greately!
I was looking for a book that my niece could read and when I got notified that Izzy Church had a children’s book coming out I decided to give it a go. I’m a fan of Izzy’s work since I read her romantic comedy novel, Angry Movie Guy. Dr Pookie And The Case of His Missing Thought absolutely met my expectations.
This is what the book is about: Pookie misses his friends and he throws a party to spend some quality time with them. As they are all sitting around listening to uplifting music and enjoying the delicious food Pookie had cooked for them, Pookie started narrating what happened when he lost his thought.
What began with one missing thought turned into a trail of lost thoughts and Dr. Pookie became the Most Forgetful Bear In The Forest.
This is a fun read with wonderful pictures, likeable characters the kids will enjoy reading and moral messages that the parents will very much appreciate. This book talks about the value of friendship in our life and how important is that friends should care about each other. I was also happy to find out that at the end of the book there is a glossary that will help kids to enrich their vocabulary. Overall it’s a highly recommended children’s book. #givebearahug
Dr. Pookie and the Case of His Missing Thought

What a delightful Children’s book. I liked the cover art and the book is full of great illustrations to help children visualize the characters. The book is warm, friendly and full of humor. The author does a great job of describing the forest, Dr. Pookies man-bear cave and giving names to the animal friends of Dr. Pookie.
Dr. Pookie is a large brown bear who has excellent self esteem! He says in the book: “stared at my handsome reflection” , “Wow! It’s rough being this gorgeous”.
Children can read and help solve Dr. Pookies mystery along with all of Dr. Pookies numerous animal friends from Little Royal Forest. Aside from the mystery, the book is about friendship, sharing and helping out your friends.
This book was a joy to read. I laughed and smiled the whole book through. This is a great book to be read at story time at a local library, or for parents/grandparents to read to children. Of course children will love reading the book for themselves.
I received the book free in exchange for an honestbreview. This does not effect my opinion nor my rating of the book.
