Something to Talk About is the funny second book in The Texas Billionaire Club written by author Elle James. This is a fantastic series. Thanks to NetGalley and Twisted Page publishing for the advance copy.
Something to Talk About is a rather sweet rom com with low heat and some funny moments. Casey is a prim, uptight host of a gardening show and Rip is the host of a "man's show" and her complete opposite. He wears Hawaiian shirts to work, is crude and determined to get her to loosen up. When they end up having to co host a show together in order to appease their boss, and possibly their station's new owners, things get a little interesting.
Although I like each both Casey and Rip individually, I never felt their connection was very strong and Something to Talk About was mostly spent with the two of them being wishy washy with each other and trying, but not too hard, to figure out if they were going to be together. If I had felt their connection to be stronger, perhaps I could have connected to them too, and have given a higher rating.
This book was definitely an interesting read. I did not love it but I did not hate it either. I found the writing smooth but I felt the character development was really a huge issue for me. The characters were just so shallow and had no depth to them. I actually didn't like either main character either.
Rip is this discustingly sleazy guy and I would have hated him too if I were Casey. I mean I really found zero about him to love, lust for or like. He seemed like he wanted to get married and being as this is my first book in the series I didn not understand why. He goes on two dates with Casey and then she dumps him and he then proceeds having sex with women who act like bimbos with nothing attractive except for big breasts. He doesn't even like them or want to have sex with them but they manipulate him so he does. It was very hard to like him.
Meanwhile Casey is engaged for most of this book. She gets engaged right after the two dates . At least I liked her fiancee and she doesn't have sex when she doesn't want to. BUT she kisses and flirts with Rip while engaged and never says I am engaged. Now had her fiancee not been falling for someone else, I would have had more issues. But still she is with this other guy so I didn't feel too bad while Rip is being so sleazy.
Rip is definitely a slimy guy.I think the author went to far in making him this idiot who dates bimbos. Which I never got over and never in a gazillion years had I been Casey would I re-date him or fall in love. This book definitely proved love is blind.
Now with all that said I did not hate the book. As I said the writing was there, it really was the characters in the book that I had issues with.
That is an unfortunate name for a radio station.
I'm thinking she has a point about the hot sauce.
At least she saved the puppy...?
Geez, Bambi, could you be more desperate?
Ooh, they have history. Nice.
Yeah, so I'm guessing she doesn't know he's rich.
Really? Is he in second grade? How is stalking her going to convince her to give him another chance? They only went on two dates! Men.
I assume he now owns the station, so it's like he manipulated her indirectly into working with him.
She'll "settle down"? She's not a tornado, Ferrence! And does Rip know she's engaged, because that would seriously mess up his "get her into my bed and then marry her" plan.
Dude's gay.
She's engaged and he's testing the waters with Big Boobs Bambi. Isn't this a match made in heaven.
This will not end well when she finds out he's her boss.
Get 'em, Mrs. Stratton! You go, girl!
I don't like the taste of alcohol either.
Haha, that's a good trick!
Hahaha! That's what happens when you wear a wire to an opera.
Maybe next time wear an actual suit, Richie Rich?
Wonder who gave who the flu. Then again, she probably infected the whole station.
She took that very well. She was madder when she thought he was on a date, even though technically she went on a couple of dates with him while she was still engaged.
That was a very good proposal.
