This book was definitely a find for me. The characters were very realistic and believable, the plot was engaging and I never found myself bored or skipping ahead at any point. Those are both good hallmarks for a well-done book. Another note is that I immensely enjoyed the descriptive nature of the settings in the book, I really felt like I was there!

This book was equally fun to read as book 1. Although this book could have been a little short but there was not a single dull moment and the anticipation of what’s going to happen next made this an exciting read!

*Spoilerish.*

Fate and Finn get separated when Finn gets cursed and is bound to the oak and Fate returns to the real world. But she is determined to save Finn but the only way back is through is by going through the Keep and one has to be the guardian to pass by first. Desperate to get back, Fate accepts the hard choice, but this time she is not the only one who tumbles into the world of fairytales. When more danger crosses her path, will be able to reach Finn in time?

The plot of this book was unpredictable which I really liked. This book picks up right where it was left off. Fate's gets back from the book of Fables but Finn is still stuck there, on top of that her whole book signing after party moves to the bookstore which puts her in a compromising position. With the help of Gerdie, she is finally able to return to the fables but quite a few of her friends tumbles along with her. It was actually quite fun and irritating at the same time seeing how her friends reacted. I was especially angry towards Jessie, Fate's bff and I was very much glad when they resolved the issue between them.

The dangers got more amplified in this book, especially the Gorgons. They were nightmarish. But I was soooo glad to have Sithias back!! I love that snake so freaking much! The action sequences were done well and I really enjoyed the backstory of the Keep. Though I felt that the book stretched a bit too much. Anyway, finally, the real villains of the Keep were also introduced. Although we just got a glimpse of them in this book, I have a feeling shit's about to hit the fan in the next one which I'm really excited to read about. And I was soooo happy when Fate and Finn finally got reunited. It's not going to be an easy journey for them but at least they are in it for together.

Overall, Fate's Keep was an enjoyable read. I enjoyed both the plot and the characters. The writing was smooth and easy to read and it was fast-paced throughout the book. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next in this series.

Recommend it?

This series is going to be my ruin, even if I have to admit it makes me nervous. The story itself is really exciting and Fate and Finn are two great protagonists but the other characters are not so good and they are definitely without charm. I liked Fate more in the first book, while Finn is my favorite character. He seems the only one with the head on his shoulders.

In the first book, Fate found a magic and dangerous world together with the love of the beautiful Finn, but the destiny take them apart. In this second novel, we can see the feelings and the events of both while they try to meet again.
Fate grew up but she lost some of this maturity for half of the book. The she wake up and she give the best of herself.
Talking about the another guys, Jessie, Fate’s friend, and Darcy were terrible. I would like them less petulant, some more worthy secondary characters.

I loved the meeting between Fate and Finn, and I can’t not help to love him more.
As always, the world building is spectacular e it makes you want to enter those worlds e join the adventure.
I liked Mitchel’s style but I would like her to work more on the characterization. I can’t wait for the next book.

T. Rae Mitchell did it again! After the first novel ended in such a shocking way, I was glad to see the continuation of a great debut!

After barely escaping the book of fables, Fate is back in her world. Desperately wanting to return and help Finn, who is still trapped within the book, Fate will do anything to find her way back. When she is offered the position of guardian of the Keep, Fate takes on the responsibility of protecting the space station, located across the universe, take contains very powerful and dangerous mythical creatures and magical artefacts. Travelling to a new world, Fate must face her destiny, her new unbreakable oath with the Keep and discover the strength to save the people she loves. A new enemy awakens nothing will ever be the same.

The plot is nicely developed and it grabs the reader right from the beginning. There is a lot of action, mystery and drama going on, enough to keep me clued to the pages and to make my breathing stop at times.

I was surprised with the sci-fi approach in this instalment, it took the adventure a bit further than I was expecting. Between the space station, spaceships, aliens, advanced-technology and guns I felt like I lost a bit of the connection with the story. I had this cosy feeling with the book of fables and with outer space I didn’t feel it at all. Still, it was an enjoyable twist to the first novel.
Mitchell did a great job creating this new magical world. The setting is amazing and definitely brings things to another level, I felt the thrill while reading. It’s easy to see her deep knowledge and passion of myths and legends and the style of writing is still a beautiful and captivating as in the first novel. The dialogues are brilliant, witty and funny, a joy to read.

The introduction of new characters was exciting and it nice to how they all have their roles in the story, there are no loose ends, everyone fits into the plot perfectly. I really enjoyed how the real and the fantasy both come together as characters from both realities meet. I did miss Finn though and his interactions with Fate, I really enjoy them as a couple.

Another ending that felt me hungry for more! Can’t wait to read the sequel Fate’s War and see what other adventures await Fate and her friends.

The second installment in the Fate's Journey series, Fate's Keep seems to go from the deeply fantasy world to an almost sci-fi like world. After escaping the book of fables, all Fate desperately wants to go is get back to Finn, who is still trapped within the book. In an attempt to find her way back, she agrees to be the guardian of the Keep. The Keep is a magical space station across the universe from Earth, containing dangerous mythical and magical creatures and artifacts. Trapped between her oaths to protect the Keep, her love of Finn and her need to protect her friends and family, Fate has a lot on her hands.

Not as intriguing as the first one, Fate's Keep was still a pretty good read. It goes into a different realm from the previous novel. Fate's Keep actually has a major sci-fi leaning with spaceships, super technically advanced aliens, jetpacks and laser guns. It's plot was okay, it contained a lot of action, drama and mystery to keep the readers attention, but the new world just did not seem as rich as the one contained in the book of Fables. The Keep was undefined and the motivations of the whole cast in this new book was not always clear or consistent, so it grew hard to care for them or really even get to know them. All and all, Fate's Keep was pretty okay and I give it the rating of FOUR OUT OF FIVE STARS!!!

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Thanks to NetGalley and Original Mix Media for the opportunity to read and review Fate's Keep by T. Rae Mitchell! In this sequel to Fate's Journey, Fate is not going alone to the realm of the Book of Fables. Her father, Eustace, her best friend, Jess and her book fans are going along for the adventure. While Sithias was an interesting and entertaining creature in book one, Faurok takes the role in this story. It takes cleverness on the author's part to create Faurok's dialogue because he mixes words up to make new ones. Finn is on his own in the realm and he's trying to figure out how to get to Fate and he is bound and determined to reach her. I was so happy when Sithias made an appearance in this story because I missed him and his fun personality and his extra s's on his words! Fate is being pulled in several directions while her allies become enemies and her enemies become allies and her story doesn't end in this book. There's a third book entitled Fate's War, which is a good thing because Fate's Keep ends with a cliffhanger. 5 stars!

I unfortunately was not a huge fan of the first book, Fate's Fables, but I decided to give the sequel a try. This one was alright, following Fate as she tries to save Finn, but it felt like there was a lot going on that I couldn't really follow or get behind. I did enjoy the writing, so that was a plus for me! While this book may not have been for me, I can definitely see where others, especially readers and writers, would absolutely dive into Fate's story headfirst!

I became a fan of Mitchell’s with the first in this series, Fate’s Fables, which ended in such a heart stopping way I found myself constantly checking for when the sequel was going to arrive. It is thankfully here and unbelievably even better than the first.

This fantasy hits all the right spots as you’re whisked along a new compelling adventure with Fate at the reins. There’s plenty of action, romance and her great character development flexes its muscle with new characters to add to her ever growing vibrantly created world. Along with her imagination running rampant in this amazing story you get a first class education in SAT words with the likes of “portionages”, “connectifications”, “confabulation” and “monstramorphosis”; they’re just fun to say out loud. Her incredible lexicon continues in how she uses words to turn printed letters into visual photographs like a slideshow slipping slowly across your mind’s eye. She uses metaphors the way a painter uses a brush.

Mitchell’s use of myths, legends and fantasy elements feel more real than imagined as she pulls you along in this battle for redemption. Her use of credible dialogue adds to that sense of realism as you get pulled into conversations that enrich the tale and further the story.

Just like the first, this one ends on a cliffhanger so the story will continue in Fate’s War. Be prepared to feel your heart break at the impossible decision set before our fearless heroine.
