This book is a combination of several stories of Lithuanian refugees who have resettled in Canada. Each story is bittersweet with nostalgia for what has been lost and how this new life does not compare. The stories all have a melancholy feel to them and the lack of optimism and inability to find joy became a bit overwhelming. Is this how all refugees feel? For a person who enjoys books that don't have perfect endings, I could have used a bit less imperfection here.
