Silver Mercant, a powerful Psy telepath, and director of the newly formed Emergency Response Network embraced Silence (completely suppressing one’s emotions) from an early age, but the charismatic Valentin, Alpha of StoneWater, a bear changling pack, has been disturbing her carefully controlled existence. Whether it is by showing up unannounced at her apartment or place of work in the guise of EmNet business, or just to ask her out for ice cream, he manages to shake up her reserve and get under her skin. There was a time Silence wasn’t her way of life, she was a passionate little girl, and now that it is no longer against the law to have emotions for Psy, Silver wonders about that long dormant side of her. Valentin makes her wonder.

Valentin has been fascinated by Silver since he laid eyes on her. She seems made up of fire and ice, and just the kind of woman he wants for a mate. Valentin’s determined to stir those emotions he senses burning under her cold exterior. When someone tries to poison Silver it becomes clear stashing her at the bear’s clan home is the best option for her protection. Valentin is outraged that someone could’ve killed his precious Silver, but her staying at his Denhome gives him a better chance at capturing her heart.

I’ve only read one other book in the Psy-Changling series, the first book, but I feel like I would’ve enjoyed Silver Silence even without reading any previous books in the series. There was enough information given to get a feel for this world to appreciate Valentin and Silver’s story on its own.

Loved this romance! It was amusing to see Silver flustered with Valentin’s attempts to infiltrate her life. And I dare you not to fall in love with Valentin! He’s a dangerous Alpha for sure, but at his center he’s a big loveable teddy bear! And it was impossible not to fall for the StoneWater clan! They’re so openly affectionate, fun loving, and mischievous! “Bears.” The cubs were the cutest, wedging themselves bit by bit into Silver’s heart!

Even though you might think Silver would come off as an ice princess, at her core she was lovely; principled, loyal, and protective of Valentin and his beloved bears. I enjoyed Nalini Singh’s writing so much I know I’ll go back to read some more of the Psy-Changling series.

Nalini Singh describes SILVER SILENCE as the start of a "second arc or season" for the Psy-Changeling series and that description feels very correct. Like the previous books, SILVER SILENCE carries with it the history of this world, the compelling characters, passionate romances, and fascinating plot while forging its own path into a new world. I loved seeing the way in which the fall of Silence and the following Trinity Accord has effected all of the races and their interactions with each other. Also, getting to see new changeling groups was a smart thing to do as it not only helps to expand the universe but keeps the series fresh with new character stories.

In the midst of a brave new world, humans, psy, and changelings have formed an uneasy alliance (the Trinity Accord) and terrorists threaten that alliance. Silver Mercant is wrapped up in the politics with the Trinity Accord and through clever plot mechanics, brings the Stone Water bear clan into situation. By having Silver- a name we've run across before in the series- be one half of the main couple of this story we have a link to between the first arc and the second arc. Silver is a wonderfully serious foil to the bears and Valentin, the bear alpha (Sidenote: I love the bears! They're hilarious, loving, loyal, and powerful. Quite possibly my new favorite changlings!). Singh excels at writing emotionally-layered and compelling characters and with Valentin and Silver that skill shines through. It's an odd sort of thought to think of Valentin, the bear alpha as both sexy and absolutely adorable but he is both. His strength is balanced with his gentleness which is what makes him perfect to break through to the icy Silver Mercant. Their relationship goes through some serious challenges that almost had me wondering if they weren't going to actually stay together. I was not ready for sad, adorable bears and luckily that was not the case in the end.

SILVER SILENCE sets up the foundation of the conflicts coming with this arc and tells another wonderful and charming romance. While the overall plan for the rest of this arc is unclear I am happy to continue along the ride with this series.

Nalini Singh is a new to me author with an established reputation as a leader in writing paranormal romances, with her Psy-Changeling and Guild Hunter series. Both those series are quite long, and I often find that PNR romance series have overlying story arcs so they are best to start at the beginning of the series. With that in mind, I was really excited to see that Silver Silence was going to be the first story in a spinoff series so that new readers like myself could find a place to dive into the world Ms. Singh has created. Silver Silence is the start of the Psy-Changeling Trinity series (and tagged as the 16th in the Psy-Changeling series) and it's an exciting and entertaining read. You know those books where you start slowing down as you get closer to the end because you don't want it to finish? Yeah, this is one of those.

It's a new world for humans, Psy (those with psychic abilities) and Changelings (animal shifters). After centuries of strife, a fledgling alliance has been formed for these three beings. Silver Mercant is a Psy who has lived for years under the Silence protocol that removes emotions from her life experience. As the head of EmNet, a worldwide emergency response unit formed under the Trinity Accord, she has her hands full responding to disasters often spawned by those wishing to dissolve the Accord. Not everyone is happy with the alliance or Silver's role in it. A poisoning attempt leaves Silver vulnerable, a state that Valentin Nikolaev, the alpha of StoneWater bear clan takes personally.

Valentin is fascinating by the ice cold Psy with a hidden fire only he seems to be able to see. His inner bear is ready to claim Silver as his mate and in typical bear fashion he sets out to court her – most notably with offerings of food and invitations to go out with him for ice cream. When a visit to her home finds her passing out in front of him, he takes swift action. Not knowing who can be trusted, he brings Silver to Denhome, his bear clan's base. There he and Silver try to determine who is trying to hurt her – and why. Silver's been able to keep Valentin at arm's length in her world, but seeing him in his home is another story. And she has a secret – her emotional shield is starting to crack. She may be able to return those emotions that Valentin wears on his sleeve before long. But will she survive long enough to give Valentin his heart's desire?

The world building in this series is clearly very complex but at the same time is easy to understand, which is great news for a new reader navigating their way. It's a delight to read a story that is well planned and executed and that's definitely the case here. While there are cameos of characters who feature in some of the other Psy-Changeling stories (sure to please long time fans), there are many new characters as well, and the focus of this story is definitely on the StoneWater bear clan, as well as the Mercant Psy family.

The contrast between these two 'families' couldn't be more clear. The bears are...well, bears. They are rough and tumble sorts, they drink too much, they party hard, they are fiercely loyal, and they have tender teddy bear hearts when poked. Some of my favorite scenes involve the bear cubs at play, especially when their clearly loved Alpha gets into the mix. There are lots of very amusing scenes in DenHome that had me smiling. As well, Valentin's pure-hearted pursuit of Silver really makes this story. Despite conflicts and challenges, he is faithful to the woman he believes is his life long mate. His protective instincts rule, and he is one of the few people who sees and respects Silver for the Alpha personality that she is within the Mercant family.

The Mercant Psy family are a high powered and well respected family. As Psy they are logical and unemotional, though also very loyal. It's why the thought of someone in the family betraying them by trying to hurt Silver is inconceivable. And yet there seems to be no other conclusion but that there must be a traitor in their midst. In trying to find out the truth, Silver is reluctant to rely on Valentin but knows she has no choice. She worries more about bringing trouble to his home than about her own safety – from a logical point of view, since she doesn't 'do' emotions. Only, Valentin is very persuasive in his courting of her, and she finds herself curious to know what it would be like to not be 'Silent' anymore.

As these two dance around each other they eventually find their way into each other's arms in some sexy scenes. But while sex, or as it's termed in shifter language 'naked skin privileges' may bring Silver and Valentin closer together, it doesn't change the reality of what's happening around them. There are several attacks on innocent civilians for Silver to deal with in her role as EmNet leader that make her and her colleagues even more resolute in uncovering who is behind them. Though the story is mostly told from Silver and Valentin's points of view, there are chapters told from other characters who have a vested interest in the world and the alliances made. While we get a very satisfactory happy ending for Silver and Valentin, there are some open plot threads that are unresolved. I can't wait to see where this is headed next! In the meantime, I've got lots of backlist in the Psy-Changeling series to catch up on. Silver Silence is a thoroughly entertaining paranormal romance and a great way for new readers to dive into the Psy-Changeling world.

I anxiously await the release of each new book in the Psy-Changeling series from Nalini Singh. I absolutely have to dive in pretty much the minute the book hits my kindle every single time. Silver Silence was no different, and much like other books in the series, I was pulled in from the very first page.

Silver Mercant has intrigued me from the moment we met her. I know partially because she has successfully worked with Kaleb for so many years, but there was just something about her that made me want to know more about her. Silver seems to be more like the classic Psy figure, as in she is still silent...or at least appears to be. I questioned how silent Silver really was the first time we saw her interact with Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater Bears. I honestly felt an instant connection between them that I felt like silence couldn't break.

I adored Valentin from the moment he appeared on the page. I have to say I didn't know what to expect from bear Changelings. I found myself love them ever bit as much as I love the wolves and cats quite honestly and loved their pack was all up in everyone's business just like the other packs. I loved that Valentin was so very protective of Silver pretty much from the moment they met. I found myself falling in love with Valentin and Silver as a couple. I felt like their differences gave them the chance to totally work as a couple. Valentin was pretty much relentless in his pursuit of Silver and I loved how he was willing to go as slow as she needed for them to be together. What always started out as sweet ended up being hot once Silver finally gave in to her attraction and true feelings.

I enjoyed the steps the humans, Psy, and Changelings are taking to work to make the Trinity Accord work for everyone. Yes there is still a solid force trying to stop Trinity from working, and I didn't love the fact that some of my favorite characters suffered injuries in Silver Silence. I did like where Ms. Singh took the series in Silver Silence. Once again I read the new book as quickly as possible and now have to wait another year for a new Psy-Changeling book. Silver Silence was a great addition to the Psy-Changeling series and I believe fans will love it every bit as much as I did.

"Welcome to the Age of Trinity."

"Even after all this time, Silver did not understand bears."

FINAL DECISION: Moving the action from San Francisco to Moscow, Singh kicks off the new "season" of the Psy-Changeling series with the compelling story of Silver Mercant, a powerful Psy woman, and the alpha bear shifter, Valentine who breaks through her silent walls.

THE STORY: Silver Mercant is the uber effective assistant to the most dangerous man in the world and has also taken on being the coordinator for the new worldwide emergency response/humanitarian response group. She has also acquired an admirer in Valentin Nikolaev, the Changeling Alpha of the StoneWater bear clan. Valentin has been courting Silver for months -- making sure to meet with her instead of her boss, leaving her food and appearing at her apartment unexpectedly. When an attempt is made on Silver's life, Valentin makes it his business to help protect Silver. In a post-silence (aka a world where the intellectual Psy are allowed to feel emotion) Silver must decide whether to break her own Silence to embrace a potential relationship with her self-proclaimed "teddy bear."

OPINION: I approached this book with a bit of trepidation. When an author puts out a book like ALLEGIANCE OF HONOR and specifically states that she is moving to a new stage in a beloved series with a new focus, a reader who loved the original series might be concerned. I'm happy to report that while this book moves the series in new directions with the introduction of new characters (and changeling groups), this is still the Psy-Changeling series that I love. And maybe a better version of itself.

"Something always seems to get broken when a group of bears is out to have a good time."

I'm constantly amazed by the amount of detail and differentiation that Singh is able to create in her Psy-Changeling world. For the first time, we get to meet the bear changelings in detail. And, oh, what a wonderful group these are. Cuddly, messy, outwardly and unabashedly emotional, partying. These bears are different from the cats and wolves that the series was previously embedded with. I love how Singh makes each of these changeling groups different and distinct from the other groups. Each group has a different culture, a different history, a different set of value priorities and yet they remain unmistakably changeling in their attitudes. I had thought that I would always love the cats the best, but these bears certainly made an impression on me.

Valentin is a different kind of alpha hero. He is definitely a dominant and in control, but he is also sweeter and more outwardly romantic and emotional than the other alphas we have met. (I didn't think an alpha hero could beat the sexiness of Lucas Hunter, but Valentin certainly does). He is strong and yet funny and has a soft heart that he is not afraid to show others. He ends up being a surprisingly good match for the efficient and smart Silver.

Silver is as competent and complex as we have seen through the series. She has a difficult journey in this book. (Yes, I ended up crying about half way through). And I never expected where this book went. While this is not the first (or even second or third) Psy and Changeling pairing, Singh always manages to keep the journey of the particular romantic pairing separate and unique. Silver and Valentin are not like any other couple we have seen in this series -- and that is a beautiful thing.

Pairing a wonderful couple with a political thriller is old hat for this series. But this book gives us new enemies and (perhaps) allies to get to know. A series that never rests on its laurels or gets repetitive, SILVER SILENCE is a winner on all levels: emotional, complex, funny, daring, intriguing and a beautiful testament to love and devotion.

WORTH MENTIONING: The story has moved away from familiar stories in the San Francisco area that series readers are used to and yet this book exists in that world and doesn't feel separate at all.

CONNECTED BOOKS: SILVER SILENCE is the first book in the new "season" of the Psy-Changeling series. Known as the Trinity series, this book is connected to what went on in the previous 15 books in the Psy-Changeling series and yet really starts out in a new direction. New readers could start here and catch up fairly easily, but I don't know why anyone would. Start at the beginning of the Psy-Changeling series because this is one of the best series out there.

STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book via Netgalley in order to be able to provide a review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.

I am in love. Forget about leopards and wolves. I want a sweet, kind, lovable bear to snuggle!

My undying love for Kaleb was tested after meeting Valentin Nikolaev in Silver Silence. I don’t know if my uber-powerful psy can fight against the power of this honey sweet bear with is big laugh, who can be “sneaky like a cat” to work his way into the heart of the woman he loves. I just want to hug him! *sigh*

Valentin started winning me over as soon a Silver opens her door to find the Alpha bear who can sneak into her high security apartment simply because he wants to see her and get under her skin just a little. He calls her Starlight or his Sunshine and sends her gifts of food — food is very important to a bear — all of which she tells him to stop doing but bears apparently don’t hear so well when “no” is involved. Valentin pushes Silver because he knows she is strong willed and he really likes when she pushes back. We can easily see that this big bear has his heart set on Silver and not just because she is pretty. He has a great deal of respect for her. He sees everything about her as exceptional and attractive, from her efficiency and her passion for her work to her kindness to the little cubs in his den. And he will do anything to make her see him as a future mate. How can you not love a man who when Silver has a moment of doubt says You are Silver Fucking Merchant, of course you can.

From her first introduction, Silver was pure Silence and as a protege of both Kaleb Krycheck and Ena Mercant, she was all efficiency and ruthless businesswoman. Yet you can also easily see from the beginning that Silver is softening to Valentin, even though she acts cold and standoffish like a good psy, but she never calls security or threatens him in any way or even tells him to go away like she means it. She is not as bothered by his constantly showing up at her apartment as she tells him she is nor is she bothered by her calling her Starlight since she lets it slide. She does realize that her acceptance of these actions as just being Valentin seemed to start about the time that the E-psy’s started the honeycomb and which is bleeding emotions into all the psy’s.

Silver is attacked at the beginning of the story making it necessary for Silver to go somewhere safe. We don’t know if this has anything to do with Silver being the director of the newly established worldwide Emergency Response Network run under the new Trinity Accord or is this more personal. Valentin offers sanctuary to Silver with the StoneWater bears because who would be stupid enough to try to attack a den full of bears. Bears might appear a bit clueless but it is all part of that “sneaky like a cat” facade.

While Valentin is angry that Silver’s life is in danger, having Silver in Denhome is exactly what Valentin wants. He is hoping that he can use their time together in his cat-sneaky plans to wheedle his way into her heart and bed and that he can get her to feel at home with his clan.

Silver is trying to recover while not being overwhelmed being surrounded by the always curious bears, but someone is targeting humans and Silver needs to keep working to mobilize EmNet. Instead of working a wedge between the three factions, these attacks keep focusing the attention on everyone working together.

Yeah, yeah, yeah… action…story plot…let’s get back to how adorable these two are. I had a hard time picking a favorite scene. Valentin shows his kind heart while taking care of his clan, and while he plays at being a humble brute, Silver sees the intelligence behind the facade and is quite impressed. And while Silver plays Psy and says she is Silent, we can see that Valentin is breaking down those walls. She teases him and feels safe with him. I had to laugh at one point when they try to out scary each other to get information on Silver’s attack.

Whether they are working as a powerful team to support Trinity or the clan, or just playing with the cubs in the den, you are going to love Valentin too because…well, bears! You just won’t be able to help yourself.

Once again Ms. Singh delivers a story that will keep readers riveted from start to finish.  Prepare to be charmed by the Russian bears, most especially the bear cubs and their alpha, Valentin Nikolaev, as he wages siege on Silver Mercant’s heart and soul.  Against all odds, love blooms in a barren, silent world bringing life to a psy-changeling pairing that is designed to rock the modern world. Despite Silver’s flawless silence, Valentin Nikolaev is compelled to put himself and his love against the heights to court Silver using weapons such as food, charming courting gifts, and gorgeous bear cubs.  His adorable notes to Silver will charm readers’ hearts, especially the ones that he signs “I am a teddy bear” in Russian. Fortunately for Silver, Valentine is in the right place at the right time to save her life against a sneak poison attack then having the privilege to hold her safe in the heart of bear territory.
This is a unique psy-changeling pairing in that both Silver and Valentine are alphas in their own right and at the pinnacle of their power.  She is “Silver Fucking Mercant,” destined to conquer her world and shape world events to fit her own narrative. She is also unique in that her gifts need silence in order for her to survive. Valentine loves her so much that he would rather see her alive and silent without a mating bond than die as his mate – though the sneaky bear does everything in his power to break through her silence to fight for his love.
Things are, as readers know, far from perfect in the world of the Trinity Accord. The psy-net is still failing, despite the empaths’ attempts to keep it sane and is now desperately in need of human bonds to make the sentience healthy again. The consortium seems to be gaining strength in effecting chaos around the world, keeping Trinity resources engaged in fighting the outbreaks all over the world.  While the leaders of the warring factions are still shrouded in mystery, some crumbs of information do come to light that will be interesting to see how they develop.  Also I believe we might be seeing the signs of the first homosexual psy-changeling pairing.
At the end of this book there are as many questions as there are answers, which is the perfect recipe to keep us all frothing for the next story in this series.

This is my first book by Nalini Singh and really enjoyed it. It was super elaborate and I loved the world the author created. It took me until about 25% to really get into it. That first bit was pretty much a crash course of who was who and what was what. There's a lot of info in a short amount of time but once it was all laid out, I was good to go!

I enjoyed the developing relationship between Valentin and Silver, I found it fascinating. Valentin was the best! I thought he was so sweet and I just found him to be this fun loving and caring guy as well as dominant and in charge. I loved them together! I really liked Silver, she was as super interesting and I loved watching her discovering her emotions. It was just so sweet because it was like it was happening but she was in total denial which made it all the more entertaining. I loved her opening up and those moments of vulnerability. I loved seeing those breaks in her and watching her get filled with life. Valentin was there through it all, making me melt.

There's lots of emotion, a lot of fun, some ups and downs, a little heat and I thought it was all great! I loved how challenging Valentine seemed in the beginning, Silver found him aggravating and sweet. I liked their dialogue and how they played off one another.

Since there is a lot going on, I got confused more than once because there is so much happening but by the end, everything clicked and I understood it all. I liked the drama and tension that's happening between the Changelings, Humans, and Psy. This story had a great conclusion but since it's the first in a trilogy, I am hoping the overall story and drama will continue. I'm excited where it all could go.

I loved Valentin's clan and all these sweet moments he had with them. Because… Bears! There were just so many great elements and details in this that made me smile. All kinds of little storylines taking place that I enjoyed.

I love a good The writing was really, really good and I thought it was well crafted. It had a decent pace and I enjoyed the build. There are a lot of characters introduced and different elements happening, a lot of layers and things in play. I’m definitely hooked and will continue on with the series. I love a good Paranormal Romance!

I cannot even begin to express how excited and grateful I was when my request for Silver Silence got approved on Netgalley. I am a HUGE Nalini Singh fan. She is one of my favourite authors and I have been following the Psy-Changeling series religiously. Silver Silence is the start of a new season in this brillaint world. With it begins the Psy-Changeling Trinity series. I LOVED this book.

Okay to begin with I'd like to say that you could start with Silver Silence even if you've never read the Psy-Changeling books before. But you'd miss out on the fine nuances so I'd highly recommend starting from book 1. As the title suggests this book is Silver Mercant's. Silver has been such a mysterious character from the moment we've met her. Her silence seems unbreakable and the bonds she shares with her family go deeper than anyone can understand. Silver's emotions and her thought processes were so fascinating. I loved the person she was once she opened up.

Then we have Valentin Nikolaev, our hero and the alpha of the StoneWater Bears. Oh my god. What can I say about Valentin? He's one of the best heroes Nalini Singh has written. Valentin was a great alpha, protective of his pack. He was adorable with the cubs. He cared so much about Silver and never gave up on her despite knowing that the odds were against him. He had a great sense of humour and you could see all that in his pursuit of Silver.

I loved Silver and Valentin together. They slowly but surely overcame the obstacles thrown their way. They made for a great pair and no two people deserved love in their life more than Silver and Valentin. I also loved the entire bear clan. Some of their antics were so hilarious and their reason for every single thing was so simple. Because bears. They portrayed to the world that they were simple minded but underneath the bears were actually highly intelligent creatures.

The world Nalini Singh has created is vast and complex and I simply can't get enough of it. There are political conspiracies and some people don't want a peaceful world. The psy, changelings and human races are at a critical point and need to work together. I am also extremely curious to see how Nalini Singh takes Bowen Knight and the Human Alliance's plot forward. There is just so much to look forward to in this endless world of possibilities. I loved Silver Silence and I would highly recommend you pick it up!

Oh my goodness. I love all of the characters of the Psy-Changeling world, but I think Valentin and Silver are my new favorites. Silver is the epitome of a Psy in full Silence. I was a little worried at first because she kept repeating over and over that she was one of the few who needed Silence in order to survive. How was Valentin supposed to woo her to the bear changeling side? LOL, I had nothing to worry about. Right off the bat, Valentin, big bear alpha that he is, slipped past Silver’s security to personally deliver a message to the icy, emotionally detached Psy. Silver is observant and accurate in her assessment of Valentin’s abilities. The banter between them is charming and never fails to put a smile on my face. Oh, the pet names he has for her. ~le sigh~ Valentin happens to be at the right place at the right time to get the plot going. After a failed assassination attempt, Valentin and Silver’s grandmother (and matriarch of the Mercant family) cleverly maneuver and secret Silver away from prying eyes and propped up within the StoneWater Bears’ stronghold. Valentin is one charming Bear. In a Bear pack, much like every other Changeling pack, skin privileges are a definite must. With Silver being in such close proximity, it’s no wonder how Valentin courted Silver. Of course, Silver being the type of person she is, their courtship would not go as Valentin had planned. The small portion of the rocky park made me a little sad, but all is well. We get more background plots about the Human Alliance, the mysterious Consortium and of course, we get small peaks into the lives of past characters/couples. Overall, I am satisfied by the general direction of the plot, the pace was not too rushed or too slow, and the courtship took up a good majority of the book (which is not a bad thing).

Silver Silence by Nalini Singh marks the start of another awesome paranormal series by the author that has all the spellbinding elements of her Bestselling Psy-Changeling series. This is Silver Merchant's story. Someone is trying to kill Silver and in turn, throw the fragile new world order into chaos but he/she doesn't know who they are dealing with.

If you have read the Psy-Changeling series then you have already met Silver as Councillor Kaleb's assistant. I have always been intrigued with her character. She is icily silent, super efficient and seems heartless but with this book, the author gives the readers a deeper insight into this complex character's life and ideals.

I had never been a fan of paranormal romance especially the steamy kind but after reading Nalini Singh's books, I have become a huge fan of her work and come to like this genre. Although this is the beginning of a new series still it takes after the Psy-Changeling books with the same world, crossover characters and storylines so although a standalone, I would suggest that you also read the Psy-Changeling books to better understand the Human-Psy-Changeling world and characters of this book.

The plot is expertly conceived and executed and although this is a lengthy book, I stayed glued to my seat throughout and stayed up all night to finish it in one sitting!

With a racy storyline, vivid scenes, expertly developed characters, multiple storylines that each succeed in touching your heart, suspense, mystery and intense romantic chemistry, I loved everything about Silver Silence and happily recommend it all readers above the age of eighteen.

Definitely one of the better books of 2017, I cant wait to read the next one. For now, 4.5 out of 5 to Silver Silence by Nalini Singh from me and if you haven't yet read the Psy-Changeling series, start now.

I received an ARC from the publishers via Netgalley and I am very thankful to them. The above is my honest and unbiased opinion and in no way influenced.

A must read new spin-off series from the Psy-Changelings, Ms. Singh serves up another winner. This new focus on the Trinity Accord. There are still groups working to bring the fragile alliance to a crashing halt. It is easier to do evil in the shadows than to do right in the light. This should be the theme of the series. It feels as if every step forward towards healing the world and the people living in it, there is someone undermining it and dragging them three steps back. By being transparent and forthright, the heroes become easy targets to be taken down.

Silver Mercant fits this description. She is a psy and unwilling to break the silence. It is crucial to her survival to not break the silence, no matter how stubborn a bear shifter wants her to do so. Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater Bears, is obstinate, loyal and funny. He courts Silver in a mystifying way. Fortunately for him, his perseverance pays off as it saves Silver's life. This plot device occurs right at the beginning of the book and keeps the story pace humming.

I loved the characters in this story. I usually like the characters Ms. Singh creates. These two: Silver and Valentin are so good for each other. They are the odd couple with how different they behave yet at the heart of it, they are similar. They bring the best out of each other. The romance of this story is more poignant due to the trope of "if you set it free and it comes back to you, then it is true love". The slow seduction of Silver to a full head over heels falling in love is so sweet. When the unthinkable happens, I feel as though my heart is also ripped out and stomped all over. Silver is an admirable foe. She is always call and collected. Even her physical looks are used to intimidate with an "Ice Queen" persona. She represents a very powerful woman who knows how to wield her power, thoughtfully and with intent. I love her. Valentin's power is different. His is more primal which is expected as he is an alpha plus a predator shifter. Being a large bear, he can be grouchy and hard headed. These two seem unlikely lovers yet it works so good.

In some of the books of this world, the story leans more heavily towards romance. Others lean more heavily towards moving a plot forward, as the chemistry between the two characters fall flat for me. In this one, it is perfect balance. We learn more about the organization seeking to destroy order and wreak chaos. We also have a front row seat to a love so strong, it can conquer all. I loved it. I especially loved the glimpses of life within the bear clan. The issues they have add another dimension which makes them more relate-able. The antics of the young and how bears interact with each other is adorable. This levity helps tone down the somber conflicts and gives all the characters some perspective. Ms. Singh does such a nice job of showing the "whys" of fighting for a better life.

This lengthy novel is filled with moments of infectious joy, wry humour and wounding sorrows. The emotions pulled out of a reader as we vicarious experience this journey through both Silver and Valetine's eyes are intense. Ms. Singh does a lovely job of switching multi-third person's view. She hints at some rocky roads ahead whilst tempering it with hard won periods of peace. This flux of uncertainty builds a nice suspense through each of the books. Having read from the very start of this series to where it is now, it is clear, Ms. Singh's writing is maturing. The complexity of the characters, robust world building and intertwining plots create a fantastic world for readers to enjoy. This book is highly recommended to paranormal romance readers who like stoic characters who melt for the right "one".

Silver Silence is a strong opener to the second ~season, if you will, of the Psy Changeling Series. While it gives longtime fans plenty of old faces, it also introduces some fun new ones into the equation. While we've gotten an in-depth look at the Psy, at the Leopard and Wolf Changelings, and even the humans, we get a glimpse of a whole new kind of changeling: Bears!

The bears are about as fun and ridiculous as you could expect and I love them, and it's also great to see the inner-workings of a new pack. I felt that some things could have been expounded upon a little bit more, but it's such a packed book and there's already so much going on already that I don't mind so much. I definitely look forward to seeing more bears in the future!

The Mercant family is also really great, and I appreciate that we got to see more of them. Silver, of course, is a badass and that was highlighted well in this novel.

While the romance is a little rushed for my taste, it does pull all the right heartstrings, and the political intrigue is just as captivating as ever. All in all, this is was a great read and I'm excited to see where the next arc for the Psy Changeling Series takes us!

4.5/5 Stars!

I know I say this every time I review a Nalini Singh book but that lady writes some amazing paranormal romance. And Silver Silence is no exception. It was bloody brilliant and I couldn't put it down once I had started it. I've been wanting Silver's book ever since she was introduced as Kaleb's aide and the wait was totally worth it.

I found this book overwhelmingly charming but I don't know what I loved more about it: learning more about Silver and the Mercants, the awesome bear Changelings, or the romance. One thing I absolutely adore about Singh's books is that the romance is at the forefront but it doesn't stop the overall story arc from progressing. And while it was funny and adorable in parts, this book packs several emotional punches.

I find it fascinating that Silver, who is known almost solely through her connection with Kaleb, can be so different from him. She comes off as an overly competent ice queen but she's SO much more than that. The hero, Valentin, at the first of the book has been trying to court her in his own bearish fashion but she has done nothing but shut him down. While the other books in the series have given us a lot of face time with the cats and the wolves, this one is set in Moscow and spends all the time with the bears who have very distinct and playful personalities. I absolutely loved the bears!

While I loved being introduced to the bear Changelings and the Mercant clan, my favorite thing was seeing the world evolve in the aftermath of the end of Silence and the signing of the Trinity Accord. It's fascinating how much has changed since the first book. I also was on the edge of my seat as the Human Alliance and the Psy try to push past their prejudices that formed during Silence. Things haven't changed too much but this book doubles down on the importance of the role of humans in this world and how they are finally standing up for themselves.

Overall, Silver Silence was a fun, charming, and romantic book! I loved meeting Valentin and the bears and getting to know Silver. It's going to be a long wait for the next book.

With the fall of Silence the world has to find a way to coexist with its three main social groups. Not everyone want there to be peace. The fight now turns into creating a stable platform for all social group to work together and create a better world. In this book we meet the Bear changeling and also learn how much damage the psy government did to the other social group to make sure slave to the psy. Love the book and cant wait for the next book in the series,

Excitement, danger, love, and laughter all come together to create a dazzling story in Silver Silence. Nalini Singh once again knocks it out of the park with this incredibly fun, addictive, imaginative start to her Psy-Changeling Trinity series. Between the unforgettable characters, the unique world, and the twists the story takes, it’s easy to see why I fell head over heels for Valentin and Silver’s tale.

Valentin is one of my favorite Nalini Singh heroes (and given how many fantastic heroes she has written, that’s a tough list to crack). He’s playful, protective, doesn’t give up on people, and has a heart so huge and loving it’ll make you melt. He teases Silver by sending her gifts from “Mr. I. M. A. Medvezhonok” (Mr. I’m a Teddy Bear), and he really is her teddy bear. A huge, loveable teddy bear who doesn’t take himself too seriously and cares so much for those he loves that he’ll internalize any wound to put them first. But Valentin is no doormat; he’s an alpha through and through, one who will protect, fight for, and defend those he loves. I loved everything about Valentin – just thinking about him makes me smile.

A fantastic hero deserves and equally fantastic heroine and Silver is just that. She’s long been a supporting character at the edges of the Psy-Changeling series, and I’ve been incredibly intrigued by her all along. Now that she gets to take center stage, she shines. Silver is a Psy, one whose abilities make it necessary she keeps a strong hold on her Silence, even after the fall. Despite the fact that she looks to all the world to be an ice queen, Silver has a hidden flame that jumps out at you. She’s got a brilliant brain and is phenomenal in her job as the director of EmNet, but she’s so much more. She’s a caring, loving person whose emotions aren’t as buried as she seems to think. I loved how Valentin helped tease the real Silver out, and Silver coming into her full potential was a wonderful journey to watch unfold. As individuals, both Silver and Valentin are incredibly appealing characters. Together? They’re a heartwarming, engaging, unforgettable pair. I was rooting for them through every up and down, every twist and turn, and couldn’t wait to see them get their happily ever after.

Silver Silence is the first book in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series which Ms. Singh has described as “season two” of the Psy-Changeling world. Season one of the Psy-Changeling books – the Silence storyline – was mostly centered in California and often around the DarkRiver and SnowDancer packs. I admit to being a bit anxious at leaving that beloved part of the world behind, but I shouldn’t have been. Silver Silence had a lot of what I loved about the very first Psy-Changeling book, Slave to Sensation. I’d forgotten how fantastic it was to fall in love with a whole new clan, this time the StoneWater bears. The StoneWater clan is warm, welcoming, and filled with numerous bears who grabbed my heart and didn’t let go. While Silver Silence takes us into the new era of the Trinity Accord and all the problems that come with it, I don’t think the Psy-Changeling Trinity series can completely stand on its own. Everything is connected and the world continues to build on itself. You don’t have to have read all fifteen Psy-Changeling novels before diving into this new series, but you should definitely be familiar with the world.

The overarching storyline of this new series involves the new, post-Silence world of Psy, Changelings, and humans, and those who would seek to disrupt the Trinity Accord, whether out of fear or for profit. I can’t say much about the non-romance plotlines without spoiling the story, so I’ll leave it at this: Ms. Singh is a master of world-building. I loved that we not only saw what our heroes were fighting for, but also the logic of the villains. Having fleshed out bad guys makes the fight all the more interesting. I cannot wait to see where Ms. Singh takes readers next!

Silver Silence has everything I love about Nalini Singh’s books: a strong hero and heroine, clever worldbuilding, humor, and a whole lot of heart. It’s a passionate, compelling read that made me smile, sigh, and want to live in the Psy-Changeling world.

Valentin Nikolaev is the alpha of StoneWater clan, the dominant bear shifters that surround Moscow. He is a fairly new alpha, one of a fractured clan, and who is trying to adjust to this new and changing world. Valentin recognizes that the icy and powerful Silver Mercant, Kaleb Krychek’s right hand, is his mate. He’s trying to woo Silver by being sneaky like a cat (he knows that Lucas was able to win the heart of his own Psy, so he’s trying to be both a bear and a cat).

Silver Mercant is the heir to the Mercant clan, currently run by her grandmother, Ena. They are a strong family unit, one that has survived through Silence with more “life” than most other Psys. And although the world is starting to shift away from Silence, it is not a choice for Silver who lives with a genetic defect. Yet, she feels her walls breaking every time she’s around Valentin.

Silver Silence is the first book in Ms. Singh’s Psy-Changeling Trinity series which continues the Psy-Changeling story in a post-Silence world. While one could start their journey into this wonderful world with this book, I feel that the first 15 titles are equality important in setting the tone and feel for this new world - one with human, Psy, and Changeling turmoil and celebrations.

I absolutely adore Valentin, who has known Silver is his mate since he met her ten months prior. He’s utterly adorable as he attempts to win her over with his treats and notes. He knows Silver is Silent, but that there is more to her than the cold, emotionless facade, and he gets his chance to see more with the attempt on Silver’s life at the opening of the book. Forced to move into Denhome for her own safety, Silver must adjust to being around the emotional bears. I love that Valentin pushes Silver - challenges her to see if there is another way than Silence now that she is an adult. And Silver takes up his challenge.

Silver is the perfect match for Valentin and visa-versa. They are both strong “alpha” characters that carry the weight of their respective families on their shoulders and in their hearts. They understand one another and the responsibilities that come as part of the package, which allows them to bond through opening up and sharing common experiences. Silver honestly wants to challenge herself to love her bear, and when things don’t go as expected, my heart broke wide open. The only small negative about the storyline is that it somewhat mirrored the backstory of Valentin’s parents; however the outcome is completely different.

Opening up this new territory to her readers, Ms. Singh introduces a slew of new characters, locations, and even concepts. I did get confused a couple times, but took lots of notes to help me learn the new parts of this changing world. There is a lot of momentum with the Human Alliance and also the mysterious Consortium, which is exciting for those who’ve been with the series since the beginning. I like the added human elements and adore the Human Alliance leader Bo Knight.

One of my absolute favorite new characters is that of Ena, Grandmother Mercant. She’s wise and strong, and not particularly Silent when around her own family. She cares for Silver and wants her to succeed and be happy. She’s so smart and sneaky - I really hope to see more of her in future titles. Here is just one of the many quotes I highlighted when reading:

[Valentin is talking to Ena about Silver’s safety]
“Are you asking me to kidnap your granddaughter?”
“Let’s call it an enforced move out of the field of danger.”

In the end, Silver Silence holds much promise for the future of one of the best PNR series out there. Ms. Singh has expanded her original mythology without losing site of the core essence of her books: romance. The match between Silver and Valentin is familiar, yet unique. There is the warmth and comfort of the early Changeling-centric stories, but takes the world in a new direction that puts Psys, Changelings, and Humans on a level playing field. I completely enjoyed my time in Denhome and learning all about the StoneWater Bears. There is no party like a bear party, and I look forward to many more stories!

My Rating: B+ Liked It A Lot

As you all know, Silver Silence is technically the 19th installment of the Psy-Changeling series. However, its actually the first installment of the Psy-Changeling Trinity series which is the second season of the Psy-Changeling series . Now the heroine of Silver Silence is Silver Mercant, personal aide to Kaleb Kyrchek who is the most powerful and deadly Psy in the world. Silver’s also now the director of EmNet which is a worldwide emergency response network. Overall, Silver has her hands full and is in no mood for disorder or confusion.

Too bad that Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater Bears, does not think the same. Since meeting Silver, Valentin has fallen for her and uses every opportunity to see, tease, and play with her. Silver is intrigued and bewildered by Valentin but doesn’t know why due to her being ruled by Silence. However, during one of their encounters at her home, Silver collapses and the cause is revealed to be that someone has poisoned her. What’s worse is that the only ones who come to see Silver are members if her family. So until the mystery is solved, Silver is forced to stay with Valentin in his clan’s territory for the time being.

Overall, Silver Silence was another great addition to the continuing series but also a great start to season two! It was great to finally have a book about Silver who has always been an interesting character since meeting her as Kaleb’s assistant in previous books. So the waiting for her to get a book was worth it. After all, who wouldn’t want tot know more about the right hand of the Kaleb Kyrchek. True enough, we get to meet a different Silver than the remote one we’ve met in as a secondary character. Speaking of secondary characters, we get to meet new ones who have not appeared in the series. Some seem interesting enough to have their own book. Cannot wait to see who Nalini Singh has chosen for the next installment!

If you like paranormal romance you can’t go wrong with Nalini Singh’s Psy Changeling series. When you look up binge reading, Nalini Singh’s name is sure to be there. Silver Silence is a passionate and heartwarming love story. It’s compelling, sexy and absolutely swoon worthy.

Silver Silence seen through the eyes of an alpha bear changeling who is determined to win the heart of the mesmerizing woman he’s chosen to be his mate, no matter how impossible it may seem. Especially when said woman has been trained since early childhood to not feel. But Valentin Nikolaev senses the fire and sunshine beneath the ice and he’ll use every trick up his sleeve to get her. After ten months of sneakily trying to woo her, he’s saved from kidnaping her in order to properly court her —as per bear tradition— after he stops an attempt on her life and her best choice is to lay low in the heart of his bear clan.

It is a love story told by the seemingly emotionless woman in charge of EmNet, the worldwide emergency response network comprised by all races at a time when a divided world is trying to unite. But not all are convinced that unity is a step towards betterment, some will fight to keep the world divided and while stability is achieved Silver Mercant needs to focus on her job, not the unruliness Valentin brings.

Nalini Singh once again proves her prowess at writing addicting stories. Her Psy-Changeling series have the right balance between new and familiar, between heartwarming and heartrending. This compelling story shows us just how love can conquer all.

Valentin is charismatic, smart, absolutely swoon worthy. He wears his heart on his sleeve, loving wholeheartedly and fiercely protecting his clan. He charmed the ice around Silver’s Silence and I fell for him right along with her. How could I not fall when he was all male alpha sexy being cute and funny, sneaky as a cat or sweet as a teddy bear! The man signed his secret-not secret admirer gifts he left for Silver with Mr. I. M. A. Medvezhonok. Translation Mr. I. M. A. teddy-bear.

I could probably make a very long list of all the amazing things about Valentin, but I think you get the picture. For a man so wonderful, it’s only fitting that he get to have an equally great partner. Silver is pretty awesome in her own right. Even though she has a different way of showing it, her viewpoint regarding family aligns with Valentin’s and when need be, she’s just as ruthless as the alpha bear himself.

While there have been other Psy romances in the series, it still feels highly unlikely given their lack of emotional skills. Nalini makes it work though. The love between Valentin and Silver feels organic in its development however difficult and almost impossible it may seem given Silver’s special circumstances; its the depth and strength are directly correlated complications they face. That is to say, their love is huge and absolutely heartwarming and fun!

Also touching are all the bear clan events which I loved and moved the story forward. I mean, come on, BEARS! They’re boisterous, cuddly, and fun. Along with the main story, Nalini lays out an overall arc for this spinoff series. I expect several Psy-human pairings but eagerly await anything Ms. Singh throws our way.

Silver Silence is book #16 in the Psy-Changeling series, book #1 in the Psy-Changeling Trinity series by Nalini Singh. It is a standalone paranormal romance, told from various points of view with a happy ending.
