Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling series only rivals her Guild Hunter series as my favorite PNR series. Maybe my all-time favorite series. Her world building is second to none and considering this is the 16th book in her series, the fact that I'm still completely hooked says it all. I will read everything she writes—anything she writes.

Silver Silence starts a new story arc and we're introduced to new changelings. Bears! Valentine is alpha of the StoneWater clan, Russian and seriously sweet. He ticks all of my boxes. We've met Silver in previous books—Kaleb's assistant, director of the EmNet and part of the Mercant family—and I know I'm not the only one who has been dying to read her story.

Silver is resistant of Valentin's courting and we find out for good reason. My favorite part may have been learning about the ins and outs of the clan and getting to meet a whole new cast of characters. I look forward to whoever Nalini decides to write about next because I know I'm going to love it. I will definitely be re-reading this one again in the near future.

How stoked was I to get an early release of this book............and it was my birthday!! WOOHOO Fantastic story, characters, book.
Lately I have been waiting for a number of next books in series to come and and I have been disappointed, they are fillers and leave me feeling blah.
This story evolved, introduced new characters, had an interesting story line, kept me engaged - basically it kicked ass

I consider Nalini Singh a crossover artist. I generally do not like my sci-fi/fantasy to focus on romance and sex, so it's pretty amazing that I've read 26 of Nalini's books. She is that good a world-builder, and sex alone (or mate-finding) is not the focus of her stories. In the near-future alternate world of the Psy/Changeling, the Trinity Accord is the promise of lifting humans to a more level playing field after years of being the "poor cousins" to the shifters and the psychics in the power structure of the planet. Plenty of adventure and suspense to add to romance as Nalini's brilliant world-building continues and the plots of the Consortium and the wacko Architect try to break the power of the Trinity alliance. Silver Silence takes us deeper into the lives of the Mercant Psy family as Silver Mercant takes center stage and debates stepping out from Silence. We also get to explore Bear sensibilities as Silver is drawn into the protective warmth and outsize humor of the Bear changelings. It's great to immerse oneself in a world where love and inclusion win over hatred and fear. It's a message we need to hear over and over again to keep fighting the good fight in our own lives, in our own world, and I love that Nalini never loses sight of the need for fun and delight in our quest for justice and healing. She writes good plots and good people. No need for guilt, only pleasure as you can go as deep or light as you like. In other words, these are smart and sexy and Miss Em cannot resist.
(Thank you Netgalley and Berkley for the early galley to review!)

Reading this book was just so fantastic! Silver was fantastic, and has been an awesome part of the series for a while. Whereas Valentin, if he's been a part of the series previously, well, I've forgotten. And they were a really amazing couple!

May 24th is my birthday, and I try to read books that I think are going to be utterly amazing. So Silver Silence fits within that group! This is the book where things are truly Trinity, instead of Trinity being set up. Of course, there's the Consortium trying to tear it down!

This book introduces a number of new characters, and that was really fantastic, more people to become couples in future books! We didn't see most of the older characters, but a bigger number were mentioned!

Bears! Oh, bears! So aggravating and awesome! The people who throw a good party, and who are extremely loyal. But there's a problem with StoneWater and I was glad when it resolved because it hurt! Oh, there was the assassination attempt of Silver, but she's pretty safe after that besides the reason why she needs Silence! Well, there are the various attacks around the world. Gah, I want to say more, but I won't, because I won't spoil!

Such an amazing book, and I can't wait to see where things are going to go from here, I need to know!

I was happy to dive back into this world, and see a different aspect than previous books. I really enjoyed the characters and development in this book.

It’s impossible to go into any of the Psy-Changeling books and not get blown away by the intricately detailed, futuristic world that Nalini Singh has shaped over the past 15 books. ‘Silver Silence’ is Silver Mercant’s story, the stoic, emotionless psy who finally meets her match in the Valentin Nikolaev the bear alpha and their epic romance—from wary suspicion to brief happiness to heartbreak—feels like a great love story unfolding amidst a shifting world that’s hurtling towards an unknown future.

The book isn’t a standalone, but admittedly, it can function as one especially if you don’t exactly wish to go through the first 15 books of the series to get to this point and half the title itself is the name of a mysterious psy who has appeared as Kaleb Krychek’s tough, capable but emotionless aide in the past few books. After ‘Allegiance of Honor’ closed the previous arc, Silver’s story heralds in a new age, so to speak, ushering in Psy-Changeling’s “season 2” and focusing on a period where all three races look towards unity as they seek to heal their deeply-fractured world.

In fact, ‘Silver Silence’ takes up the complicated threads from the end of the last book and adds even more layers to this shifting world that inexorably hurtles towards an unknown future even as new and recurring characters find their mates. It also feel like a reboot of the series that is making me feel the excitement I haven’t felt in forever when a good book comes along.

There are light-hearted moments as there are heart-wrenching ones and while I felt overwhelmed by the details at times as ‘Silver Silence’ kicks the action all back up into high gear, it’s hard not to look back at every turn and wonder just how far we’ve come since the first book. I laughed so hard at Singh’s introduction of the Bear changelings—their irrational behaviour that still somehow endears people to them above all—and loved every moment detailing how different they seemed to the rest of the changelings and pretty much fell for this bear clan as I did the wolves. There’s also renewed focus on the Human Alliance (though there’s already some gutting tragedy here!) which I hope will play a bigger role in the upcoming books and I simply can’t wait to see how far Singh goes to integrate these races in this new age.

Singh pits opposing characters here as she normally does in her stories—an emotional, primal changeling with a psy conditioned for absolute control—but adds an intriguing history behind the distinguished Mercant family line and the Stonewater clan that makes Silver’s and Valentin’s story so much more than just an opposite-attracts kind of story. The type of pairing isn’t new (a psy with an alpha changeling) but Singh’s storytelling never gets dull here, because Silver/Valentin’s relationship is tied so deeply to the instability during the Age of Trinity yet isn't compromised by the unfolding of events. It’s also deftly handled such that it’s hard not to root for both Silver and Valentin, who are well-matched and unwavering when it comes to loyalty and desire, as they show the same kind of determination to be with each other no matter the circumstance. Their conflict and their different stances on sex (the virgin vs the experienced male) aren't simply written for the sake of adhering to a particular romance-novel format, but rather the history of these races explains why Silver/Valentin behave the way they do and does actually lend a measure of credibility for readers who like challenging these well-established romance tropes.

After having gotten the rather fierce affirmation of Silver/Valentin’s HEA, to finish the first ‘episode’ of the new season is akin to waking up rudely to reality and the garish morning light, making you want to crawl back into the reading cave for the sequel…which isn’t yet on the horizon.

Like all other Nalini Signh books this one was dead on. I adored alpha bear Valentin. Ms. Signh knows how to write the perfect man, tender on the inside and rough and sexy on the outside. Those alphas are always so protective of their females even when they are just as tough as the males are.
I enjoyed book one of the spin-off series, I LOVED the bears and hope the twins get their books soon

Control. Precision. Family. These are the principles that drive Silver Mercant. At a time when the fledgling Trinity Accord seeks to unite a divided world, with Silver playing a crucial role as director of a worldwide emergency response network, wildness and chaos are the last things she needs in her life. But that’s exactly what Valentin Nikolaev, alpha of the StoneWater Bears, brings with him.

Valentin has never met a more fascinating woman. Though Silver is ruled by Silence—her mind clear of all emotion—Valentin senses a whisper of fire around her. That’s what keeps him climbing apartment buildings to be near her. But when a shadow assassin almost succeeds in poisoning Silver, the stakes become deadly serious…and Silver finds herself in the heart of a powerful bear clan.

Her would-be assassin has no idea what their poison has unleashed...

Silver has been Silent since she was very young. She had to be as it was the only way to save her life. She is now the director of EmNet and doing a wonderful job at it. Unfortunately she keeps getting visits from Valentin Nickolaev, the Alpha of the StoneWater Bears. She should be sending him away on a regular basis but for some reason she’s not. On one of these visits Valentin saves her life as she had just been unknowingly poisoned. The only people that could have poisoned her food was family so her grandmother and Valentin work out that Silver should stay in StoneWater territory until they find out who tried to kill her. Silver hates the plan but figures she’ll recover and then move out asap – probably within a few days.

Once at StoneWater Silver finds a different kind of life than one she’s used to seeing. Valentin makes no secret of the way he feels about her and when he finally talks her into breaking her Silence she loves every minute of their time together. Unfortunately as I said earlier she was Silent to save her life. She has a Psy designation that will soon kill her if not fixed. She’s loved not being Silent but isn’t ready to die. A surgery by Ashaya Aleine and her sister, Amara, may save her life but then she’ll probably be 100% Silent. Valentin is willing to deal with any outcome as long as Silver is alive.

I have to say that reading about Silver in previous books didn’t make me want to read her story. Kind of like with Kaleb’s book I was, of course, pleasantly surprised. Silver was a wonderful heroine and I loved her dry sense of humor and the fierceness of her love for Valentin.

Valentin was one persistent bear and I loved that about him. He knew that Silver was his mate but wasn’t about to let things set just because she was Psy. He approached slowly but when he had his opportunity he took it and ran with it. He was a good, good man and had so much love for Silver, his family and the entire bear clan. It truly warmed my heart to read about this amazing hero.

We also got to learn more about other characters, the Consortium and events that happened with Bowen Knight. I have no idea what’s going to be happening next in the series but I can’t wait!

Great book, definitely recommend it – like, read it NOW. :)

This has to be one of my favorite paranormal series of all times. I was late to the Psy-Changeling series, but I have caught up quickly. I love this world created by Nalini and the characters always seem to find their way into my heart.

This story was no different. In fact, I think bears are now my favorite. This was such a stunningly romantic story. I could not put it down. Valentin and Silver are such an adorable couple and they definitely have some amazing chemistry.

I absolutely cannot wait to read more in this series.

Silver Silence starts off with a bang. Valentin Nikolaev is a bear shifter. Silence Merchant is part of a large family of Psy and is silent. We meet them on the first pages when Valentin arrived at Silence's door and has once again bypassed building security. I loved the start and through Singh delivered a winner. Unfortunately that feeling did not last. For me the story started to slow down and drag. While Silence and Valentine are very good characters the path to their relationship got old. Silver Silence does set up the characters, background and danger in this the first book in the new Psy-Changeling series. I do hope that the next books are a little more fast paced. This time I just felt that I had to read and read trying to get to the meat of the story.

Remarkable. Unforgettable. Emotional.

Before you even get started. Have a box of tissues by your side. Yes, you will cry for so many reasons.

Silver Silence was an emotional and unforgettable read. So many things are at play. We get old favorites, new enemies, and several new arrivals to fall in love with.

I had goosebumps just from the first page. “Welcome to the Age of Trinity”

The Bears. They where wonderful, adorable, and sweet. I loved visiting a whole new set of changelings and their pack. Valentine, I loved him. I went through a number of emotions when it came to Valentine and the challenges he had to go through to win Silver. He was just so wonderful with Silver and he never gave up. Silver, I loved her. She was amazing. It was wonderful to visit a different Psy family and see that they are just as tight-knit as any changeling pack. This line from the book best describes Silver and well all the Mercant’s: “To be a Mercant is to be a shadow that moves with will, with intelligence, with purified precision.”

Silver Silence is all about change and a new direction for Humans, Changelings, and Psy. The book is divided up into two parts. This helps show the changes that accrue and will accrue at these points. Many unexpected things happen. Somewhere a punch to the gut, while others had me overjoyed.

This was an extraordinary start to the new Pay-Changeling Trinity series. Once you start, you won’t want to stop. I LOVED it!

Sliver Mercant is the head of the Trinity Accord. She is a Psy with amazing talents and she lives in silence - no emotions allowed. She meets Valentin, the head of the local bear clan. They work together to find out what the Consortium is doing. Problem is that Silver is starting to feel things for Valentin and, that's not right. Valentin, on the other hand, believes it's wonderful. There is a surgery that could possibly allow Silver to shut down her emotions but, then she would forget every feeling she ever had for Valentin. Valentin is willing to take this chance in order to keep her alive, even if it means he will lose her. The politics in this book, above board and behind the scenes, are very timely and really make you think about what is happening today! This book is about love and the price you sometimes pay for your soul mate.

I've said it once...

I will undoubtedly say it a million times...

<b>Nalini Singh is a QUEEN of paranormal/urban fantasy romance.</b>

If you consider yourself a paranormal romance fan and you HAVEN'T checked out this series yet, you are just straight screwing yourself, people.

As I've also said before, Ms. Singh is in that top echelon of authors for me.

"Top Echelon" as in we are talking about the they-could-defecate-on-paper-and-I'd-want-to-read-it level of stalk here.

<img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/4c/0f/a5/4c0fa56e9d0ffc40001b45c979325510.gif" width="500" height="281" alt="description"/>

It's just that simple, folks.

This book marks the beginning of what Ms. Singh herself has called the second arc of the Psy-Changeling - now dubbed Psy-Changeling Trinity from here on out- series and she starts it off with something we have not seen before:

A BEAR Changeling.

<img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/65/6c/a0/656ca0dabfc62cc9af1ebe6ae0434abe.gif" width="500" height="260" alt="description"/>

And not JUST <i>any</i> bear Changeling.

An ALPHA bear Changeling.

<img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/be/4e/da/be4edab0e4d43d3fc7d5be394e6a27d3.gif" width="450" height="255" alt="description"/>

A 6 foot, mega hot inch <i>Russian</i> alpha bear Changeling.

<img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/7e/55/e3/7e55e3eeb3ea4de7f812f8a1f1291a2e.gif" width="500" height="282" alt="description"/>

Now, if you follow my reviews on this series, you know that I am blatantly biased and completely and utterly predisposed toward changelings. (For more in depth discussion on this topic, see <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17159944-shield-of-winter">HERE</a> and <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/496012820?book_show_action=false">HERE</a>.)

My favorite books in this series (with the exception of that second "HERE" above) <i>always</i> involve a Changeling.

<i>ALWAYS.</i>

<img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/39/4f/3f/394f3f8d7eb3e528490dcebf15b251c1.gif" width="400" height="327" alt="description"/>

And Valentin does NOT disappoint my friends.

What a hot bearful of just plain #SCRUMPTIOUS.

<img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/9a/81/ab/9a81ab239e4628ba0fc8a6458ef449b5.gif" width="500" height="257" alt="description"/>

Seriously though, Valentin is now definitely an honorable mention in the Val's Psy-Changeling Husband Awards.

Hawke and Kaleb are still tied for numero uno, with Lucas picking up first loser, and Clay bringing home the bronze...

Leaving Valentin in a strong fourth place finish position.

So - when you consider whom he's up against...

<img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/39/4c/20/394c2064c10b8d79ab18c9ba455bf7b0.gif" width="500" height="225" alt="description"/>

That's, like, totally almost like winning.

<img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/5b/29/c0/5b29c08d1f2dff369b4a5ad0046626f0.gif" width="300" height="225" alt="description"/>

Silver was a cool glass of heroine and I really liked her.

For whatever reason, I always seem to like the ice queens.

Not sure why...

<img src="https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/de/79/86/de798600abb63f7e07b92fa51502303f.gif" width="262" height="153" alt="description"/>

They are always just very layered, in my opinion - when done right, of course - which Nalini does... right, that is.

I really liked how this book started off - it jumped right in.

There is a lot of forward movement with the overarching Trinity Accord/EmNet story line - which <i>did</i> make the drag in places, but I was fine with that.

All in all, another winner by Ms. Singh and a great addition to the series which I already can't wait to re-read.

Silver Silence is the second story arc in the Psy-Changeling world. The Trinity Accords (Uniting the Psy, Changeling & Human races) members are being targeted by the Architect and his group.
Silver Mercant is one of those recurring characters that is totally intriguing. She makes cameo appearances in several of the pervious Psy-Changeling books. Nalini teases you with bread crumbs of information & you’re left with a hunger for more.
Silver is the right hand to the deadliest man in the world, Kaleb Krychek. She is the heir to the very powerful Mercant Family. She is now also the head of Emergency Response Network for Trinity.
An assassination attempt lands her at Denhome, the Russian home of the StoneWater Bears. Alpha Valentin Nikolaev has been sneakily courting Silver and she’s clueless. It’s during one of these wooing gestures that has Valentin saving Silvers life. The Mercant (grandmother Ena) decides that Silver will be better protected away from Moscow until they know who’s after her.
Nalini is beautifully faithful to her world and the flow from the last book into this story is seamless. The romance between Silver and Valentin is the star of the show but it doesn’t detract from the underlying story arc. The Architect & his group are still shadowy but we get some new clues to their identity.
Overall this was a 5 Star read for me & would highly recommend it.
Thanks NetGalley for the review copy!

Silver Silence is the start of a new storyline in the Psy Changeling series. Players are being set on the chess board as changes still ripple around the world in the aftermath of fallen Silence. There also seems to be a larger focus on human and Psy in regards to personal relationships. I'm looking forward to reading about those developments, but I'm especially curious about the role Bowen Knight and the Human Alliance will play in future books!

And the bears! I can't forget to mention the bears! Their charismatic, endearing, protective, snarky, and bossy personalities were so stinking funny! I knew I loved bears for a reason!

I liked getting to learn more about the dynamics of the Mercant family and Silver Mercant herself, but Valentin Nikolaev's cunning and mischievous personality had me utterly enthralled! I didn't think Silver had a chance of holding out on him for long, but she was actually ballsier than I expected and gave as good as she got! Their chemistry and romance was just so...beautiful!

Overall, the story was solid. The romance was fantastic and the characters were relatively well rounded. The Trinity Accord storyline didn't seem to progress too much, but the foundation was obviously being laid for future books. If you haven't read the series, this would be a good starting point! The first story line is summarized in the beginning, but if you have the chance to read from the start of the series, go for it!

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from the Berkley via NetGalley.

I'm gonna be 100% honest with you. I wasn't really sure what I was getting myself into when I picked up this book. I've never read anything by this author before, but the synopsis sounded amazing and I have a ton of friends that love this series/author, so I just had to dive in and check it out. Now, I will point out that while this is technically a spin off series, I do think that it would beneficial to be familiar with the full Psy-Changeling Series. That being said, if you know me, then you know that I have a habit of reading series' out of order. Yes, there may have been some questionable points for me having not read the previous series, but I think I did a pretty great job following along.

Now, what can I tell you about Silver Silence? I thought the story was totally unique and it fascinated me. I'll be honest with you, it did take me a bit to get into the story, but I think that was more my issue since I am new to this series and style of writing. However, once I got a few chapters under my belt, I found myself unable to put this book down. I had to see what would happen next. I thought the author did an amazing job setting the stage and building the story. The characters were really interesting and I loved the paranormal/shifter/psy aspects. For me, I thought it was totally unique and I couldn't burn through the pages fast enough.

So, my overall thoughts....I thought this story was really exciting. The pacing was a bit slow for me at times and I would have loved a faster pace throughout the story, but honestly, there is a lot going on and a lot of story that has got to built up, so I do understand the slower pace. I enjoyed the characters and their chemistry. I thought this story had some good romance to it. Overall, I think this new series has a lot of potential and I'm excited to see where it will go from here.

Silver fucking Mercant and all those bears! Loved this instalment, as the overall story of the series moved forward nicely, the political sub-plots got more murky, and the love story was beautiful!
