Enjoyed the story - would definitely recommend this for the YA audience
Sixteen year old Abby has moved into a new state with her mom for a fresh start. Her parents have divorced. She is not all that happy to be so far away from her dad and friends. On her first day of school she sees a boy that is so handsome that she has hope he is interested in her when he smiles at her. His name is Pete. She has also caught the eye of Eli who warns her to stay away from Pete. Why? Abby makes friends with Bailey. They double date with Pete and Eli. Abby discovers that Pete is physically abusive to herhen he doesn't like what is going on with her and Eli. Eli comes to her rescue often enough that she thinks Eli might be stalking her. Is he? Eli tells her he is a Protector. What is that? What will happen to Abby?
The story is written through Abby's eyes. You see her confusion about Pete and Eli. You experience her emotions. There is romance, mystery and supernatural experiences in this story. The story moves smoothly with a few surprises in it. As the story ends, I want to read the next book as I want to know more about Abby and what will happen next to her. This novel touches on many subjects such as parents divorce, domestic abuse and other topics. They are discussed lightly but seriously too. The subjects don't distract from the novel. Reading it was a good quick read.
I thought this was a very poor book, I did not finish it. I tried to carry on reading it to see if it would get better but it actually led me to have a bit of a reading slump. It's not even the writing specifically that bothered me but the way the characters and story were written. I'm sure this could've been a great book. But imagine this, you meet someone you like them, next thing you know another guy comes along (who you don't know) and tells you you can't hang out with this person, and you actually listen. Like what? To then continue hanging out with both of them you let this person dictate your life and set rules even though you've known them for two days? I'm sorry this was absolutely ridiculous.
C.M. Boers was a new author for me and I had heard no reviews nor did I look online to see because honestly I hate that lol! Just because someone else hates it doesn't mean im going to. This book was amazing and I myself loved every chapter. Can't wait to read more of Boers books.
