Unfortunately I did not pay attention to how far into a series this book was and I don’t believe this book does well as a standalone. It is about sex, lies, greed, and the Church. Oh my!
Good, intense and everything I love about Ki,mberla Lawson Roby. Really enjoyed this one and look forward to reading more from this author.,
Although I have not read any of the series, this book was very good. Loved and hated Raven all at the same time.
Sin of a Woman is the 14th book in the Reverend Curtis Black series by Kimberla Lawson Roby. Starring in this latest installment of the bestselling series is Raven Black, ex-wife of Dillon Black. He has done everything to discredit her, yet Raven is bouncing back. Too bad it is down a path of destruction.
It is easy for me to put aside my feelings for a character I dislike for the sake of a series. In standalone novels, I have no desire to read about a character I hate unless it is clearly the author's purpose. But Raven? She is one character that I could not stand in this series, now she is the main character. Le sigh. It did not make reading Sin of a Woman an enjoyable experience.
Normally, I am geeked to read a new Reverend Curtis Black book of his antics. Now? Dare I say this series should come to an end soon and very soon. Time for this cast of characters to see The King. Enough of sub-characters getting whole books. No more cheating lying scandals in the church. Not another character getting vengeance. This series has run its course. I would rather it end now before it becomes ridiculous and placed on the DNF shelf.

This is the next installment in the Rev. Curtis Black Series. This story focus on Rev. Black's former Daughter In Law, Raven Black who was married to his oldest son, Dylan, and is the founder and Senior Pastor of New Vision Christian Center. That Raven was a hot mess and such a manipulator. My favorite character was Porsha Harrington, who was once the former Mistress of Dylan and is now an associate Minister of New Vision Christian Center. Porsha started off a hot mess as well, but heard the voice of God and truly changed her life for the better. I also liked that ending. Good Job as always and Thanks to Net Galley for the opportunity to read it.
I have read every book within this series. I love that this covers all areas and addressed the struggles that we face as believers. Porsha's journey was so real and I am glad that she trusted God to lead her through the process. Dillion and Raven were both up to their same stuff. This was a easy read and kept my attention. I recommend this book.
I haven't read but. a few of the books in this series so I might be less invested in the characters than some other reviewers. That said, I found this to be an entertaining and oddly, both predictable and unexpected. Raven is quite the character! This is a quick read which is sometimes a bit out there but Roby is a good storyteller and that carried me along. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC!
Once again Kimberla Roby writes a though provoking story about consequences. Two women are leading the lives of pastors who have been "called" to the ministry. Both have returned to past behaviors. One begins to examine her choices and makes a decision to make a change. While the other uses her position to make choices that will prove to be quite detrimental for her. This is a great story about recognizing and acknowledging your sins and then making a choice about repenting.
Just when you thought the Black Family couldn't possibly have another story to tell, Roby shows you differently. Sin of a Woman is a certified page turner. It's filled with drama, lies, deceit, betrayal, guilt, unforgiveness, the desire for revenge, trust issues, and God!! This novel has you shaking your head at some of the antics and shenanigans of "church folk" as well as causes you to reflect on your life and your walk with God.
Raven Black has wanted power since seeing her ex-husband Dillon Black attain such under the guise of a pastor. However what she doesn't realize is that you can't play with God and get away with it for to long. What's done in the dark will surely come to light. Portia, the former mistress to Dillon, funds Raven's vision to start a church and like Raven calls herself to minister. However, she reflects on her upbringing and starts to hear the voice of God and wants to live right. Is it easy? It never is, but the fate of these two ladies lies in God hands. Will a man or woman rob God? Check out Sin of a Woman, you won't be disappointed.
Without question, Kimberla Lawson Roby's "Curtis Black Series" are always masterfully written in comparison to her other works. Unfortunately, "Sin of a Woman" failed to reach the relatively high bar. Intriguing that she elected to almost duplicate the plot of the most recent saga of Dillon Black with Raven, but appropriate. There was a ton of potential to show once again the self appointed calling, rise and ultimate fail of a misguided "pastor". However, riddled with redundancy in the background of the characters and the current interactions, the book didn't fully captivate or advance. Drawn out to unnecessary lengths, the actual deceptive action could have happened a lot sooner granting more time to highlight the growth of other characters. Raven was predicatable, Porscha was unbelievable (especially her ending sermon) and Dillon and The Black Family were essentially unnecessary. For the first time ever, I'm thinking Mrs. Roby may need to find another set of characters. How much more can the Black Family endure and/or be apart of?!
I love Kimberla Lawson Roby and devour the Curtis Black series. However, I felt shortchanged on this one. The book skipped the important time between the end of A Sinful Calling and Sin of A Woman. That could have been a whole book in itself. It also felt rushed, and lacked the careful detail and world-building that Roby does so well. I'm still a fan, but this one is not her best. Can't wait for the next one!
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I love the Curtis Black series and hope I'm someday reading about Curtina having her own ministry and getting up to all her father's shenanigans. I enjoyed Sin of a Woman, but not quite as much as books featuring the Black family themselves. The book is face-paced and full of some draw dropping behavior, courtesy of Raven. Raven was a trip! I kept picturing her as Phaedra Parks from RHOA, dressed to the nines, butter not melting in her mouth.
I unexpectedly found myself rooting for Porsha. She was a well developed character who felt guilt and strove to become a better person. I was excited she found her true calling with her Women's Ministry and I hope to hear more about her as the series continues. Take Daughters of Ruth over to Deliverance Outreach, Porsha!
Sin of a Woman is the latest book from Kimberla Lawon Roby in the Curtis Black Series. This is the story of Rev. Curtis Black former daughter-in law, Raven. Raven is a snake.. She has appointed herself as a minister and started her own ministry. Raven allows greed to take over her life. A couple of the characters from her books in the series appear in the book. Raven will stop at nothing to get what she wants. If you like reading the Curtis Black series, this book allows you to catch up with the people of Mitchville. Maybe this is the last book of the series. There are no other characters to catch up with. This book was not as good as some of the past books. It was hard to get into this book. Raven story felt rushed and a repeat of other stories.
Raven! Raven! Raven! I'm shaking my head. Her story made my mouth drop. I am sure readers of the Curtis Black series will see this latest addition as a perfect fit. Porsha unexpectedly stole my heart. It was refreshing to read her journey and to see the depth of her character.
Another great job by Kimberla and all I can say is keep them coming. There aren't many authors who can have a series this long yet manage to weave in new storylines and concepts that make me finish a read in hours.
Mrs Lawson-Roby has done it again!! This book is about repentance, forgiveness of others as well as oneself. Raven has here church, but she has it for all the wrong reasons. Porsha helps Raven with her church Raven is a confused woman with a good heart. Raven is power hungry and does not really care for Porscha. While there is deception going on from quite a few characters in this book, it also is an example of it never being too late to right our wrongs. The characters are well developed and without giving too much of the book away, all will get their due. The history of Porsha, Raven and Dillon plays a role in the karma that plays out. This is another best seller from Mrs Lawson-Roby. Yes the characters are from previous books of the Rev Curtis Black series, but you do not necessarily have to read those books to enjoy "Sins of a Woman", but I bet you will go and read the full series. Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read the advanced copy of this book in return for my honest review.
