This new release in Valerie Bowman's Playful Brides series is instantly engaging. As spies for the Crown, Cade Cavendish and Danielle Lacrosse are well matched and their rocky road to love is filled with suspense. The story was diminished for me with the graphic sex, without which is would have been perfect. If you can overlook the sex you are in for a great Regency read.
Ms. Bowman is one of my favorite authors. Her books are engaging, exciting and thoroughly enjoyable. Her newest release, "Never Trust A Pirate," brings together an infamous rake, Cade Cavendish and a ruined heiress, Danielle LaCrosse in a dangerous and intriguing spy drama. Both Cade and Danielle have secrets that they've never shared with anyone before, but there's something electrifying in the air whenever they find themselves close together.
Their witty and scandalous banter keeps the plot moving as Ms. Bowman slowing reveals details about their pasts and their current mission. The story is fast-paced and kept my interest to the end. My only slight criticism is at one point in the book, there was three femaile characters with names that began with D. It was confusing at best and it would have been easier to follow the story if the author had chosen some different names. Other than this one point, I thoroughly enjoyed the story and recommend it to fans of historical romance.
This story was great, had a lot of twists and not your typical historical romance. The story flowed pretty well and I was glad they found their HEA..
This is a great spy book, simply because we have no idea who is a spy and who isn't. I believe that's what made this such a page turner for me.
Danielle is one person by day and another by night. She wants to belong so badly that she starts to tell some of her secrets. Hopefully she is trusting in the right people.
Cade has always been known as the black sheep of the family, and is okay with this title. Until he meets Danielle, then he is ready to tell some of his secrets too.
Of all the books I have read in the series, this is by far my favorite. I LOVED, LOVED, LOVED this book!
I have been waiting for Cade's story ever since he showed up at the end of The Irresistible Rogue. Cade is Rafe's twin and the self proclaimed black sheep of their family. He is a rake and a total scoundrel, but he is also devastatingly handsome and oh-so charming.
Danielle is a spy, who has been planted in Rafe & Daphne's home by General Grimaldi to find out their secrets. Danielle knows all about secrets, as she has many of her own. Infiltrating the household and posing as Daphne's lady's maid is no hardship for Danielle but she doesn't expect to like everyone so much nor does she anticipate her reaction to Cade.
This book has a little of everything, steamy love scenes, secrets galore, laugh out loud moments, nail biting moments and an absolutely priceless declaration scene.
This book is part of a series, but could easily be read as a stand alone title. It is well written, flows perfectly and keeps the reader guessing until the very end.
a truly great historical. Loved the romance. enjoyed the plot.
Sensual historical.
Two agents, one male, one female working for the crown, each unaware that they're both on the same side.
Danielle LaCrosse is determined to get revenge on Lafayette Baptiste for her father's death on her mother's false arrest and subsequent illness.
Cade Cavendish wants revenge for his brother's near deadly beating.
Brought together by a servant of the crown, they work together to arrest Baptiste and fall deeply in love.
Written with sensuality, mystery and a little humor, this is a definite winner.
I've received it as an ARC from Netgalley as per my request. I have never been disappointed in a Valerie Bowman book...usually delighted and this is no exception.
This book was wonderful. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Not only is it sexy but it is most certainly a book where you have a strong heroine and hero that combination alone along with spies, and pirates makes this a book you don't want to miss!
If you love the cloak and dagger kind of book, spy vs. spy, then this book is for you..
The first chapter opens with a person called The Black Fox trying to steal a map aboard a ship that details the escape of Napoleon Bonaparte. Apparently, The Black Fox is a well known thief whose exploits are well documented and followed by the press and all of London.
Then we go on to meet Cade Cavendish, twin brother of spy master Captain Rafe Cavendish (The Irresistible Rogue) black sheep of the family, left home at a young age, thrown into prison for 2 years for stealing bread, became a pirate then eventually a privateer and presumed dead by his brother Rafe. He eventually went back to London after a decade long absence to avenge the capture and torture of his brother under the hands of the notorious Baptiste.
Then we meet Danielle LaCrosse, French maiden whose father was murdered right in front of her by Baptiste. The crime however was said to have been committed by her mother and since her mother was English, she was convicted and shipped to London to serve time there. Danielle vowed to go after Baptiste to avenge the death of her father.
Now here is where it gets interesting.... Danielle is sent to work for the wife of Rafe as a lady's maid so as to keep tabs on the comings and goings of Cade. And Cade is trying to track down any information he can get on the whereabouts of Baptiste and the black fox . And Rafe is trying to figure out if Cade is the Black Fox or not.. see? its spy vs. spy vs. spy! and here I was trying to figure out who the heck was the black fox!!!! and don't even get me started on that last chapter!!!!! i was like nooooooo freaking way!!! argh! I just love a good whodunnit kind of book!
ARC provided by NetGalley, St. Martin's Paperbacks and Ms. Valerie Bowman.
I have been a fan of Valerie Bowman's books for awhile. I love her writing style and her characters. This story was very amazing about the pirate Cade Cavedish and Miss Danielle LaCrosse. This book was had me reading as fast as I could so I could know how it was going to end. I very much enjoyed it.
Never Trust A Pirate by Valerie Bowman is a fantastic historical romance. Ms Bowman has given us a well-written book loaded with unique but lovable characters. Danielle and Cade's story is full of secrets, everyone has them. There's also plenty of drama, action, humor and spice to keep readers engaged in this wonderful story. I loved this book and look forward to reading more from Valerie Bowman in the future. Never Trust A Pirate is book 7 of the Playful Brides Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book that I received from NetGalley.
I was looking forward to Cade's story, but I have to admit it bored me and it was never as funny as the previous books were. Still thinking if I will keep on reading this series, it depends on the names of the next characters probably, we will see.
THANKS TO NETGALLEY FOR THE PREVIEW!
This novel was a good read. The plot includes romance, secrets, and spies.
Cade Cavendish believes himself to be a black sheep. He has broken many laws, but he has his reasons. He is avenging the man who hurt his brother. Cade has many secrets and identities that will be uncovered.
Danielle LaCrosse also has many secrets. She is a spy and has multiple talents. Baptiste killed her father and blamed her mother for the crime. Danielle wants revenge. She is assigned as a maid to the home of the Viscount Spy, to keep tabs on Cade.
Both are instantly attracted to each other and flirt when they meet. Both have many secrets and as they begin to slowly trust each other, they let some of those secrets slip out. Both want to stop Baptiste and will do whatever is necessary to see that happen. It does not help that the Black Fox has been interfering in gathering intelligence. No one knows who the Black Fox is, but everyone seems to assume they know the true identity and it will keep you wondering until the end. As Cade and Danielle get closer to stopping Baptiste, they allow themselves to love each other but Danielle does not want any promises from Cade. Afterall, he is a rake and rakes cannot fall in love?
Such a fun read. Great likeable characters I wanted to keep reading about.
I received this from Netgalley/ Publisher in exchange for an honest review. I have just fallen in love with this series. I must say I had been waiting for Cade's story for awhile now and I was a little disappointed. Cade's woman Danielle is a French woman spying for the English. I enjoyed the story up until the end. I hated it! I will be looking forward to more but man not an awesome ending.
This romance wasn't to my taste. I felt nothing for the characters. The romance seemed forced. Thus, this book is very cliche and forgettable.
