TANGLED IN SIN - Lavinia Kent

#5 in the Bound and Determined Historical Romance series

A NICE FINISH TO A GOOD SERIES - 3 stars

Plot - 3 stars - Cynthia is kidnapped, accidentally, from Madame Blanche's and finds herself stranded in a cabin in a storm with her childhood playmate. Because she's been compromised, he intends to marry her, but she's holding out for love.

Writing - 4 stars - This has been an interesting series, and I've become comfortable in this world. Kent writes well, with scenarios that hold my interest and move forward quickly. I haven't read any other BDSM series set in this time period, and I find it fascinating.

Characters - 4 stars - Kent is very good at creating well-built characters who make sense and are very appealing. Cynthia is innocent but adventurous, which sometimes gets her into trouble. But she's sweet and kind, and I found her very attractive. James is much more arrogant, but that certainly reflects the times. And underneath he has vulnerabilities and a sense of honor that make him also approachable.

Title - 3.5 stars - A clever title since Cynthia's nickname has always been Sin. And James is definitely tangled up in her, both physically and emotionally.

Cover - 2 stars - A fairly typical cover for this genre. No color or anything else to draw the eye.

Overall - 3 stars - This series has been very enjoyable, and this book was fine but kind of a letdown. The characters were attractive and relatable, and I liked that they were honest and trying to do the right thing. But the sex scenes were much less exciting than previous books, with very little BDSM involved, and that is what I have come to expect from this series. The story moved forward, but the action throughout was much lower key and felt a little slow. All in all, this was a pleasant read, but I found the previous books in the series to be much more engaging.

I really enjoy Lavinia Kent's Bound and Determined series and how she combines historical romance with the erotic events of a brothel.

This series continues to be enjoyable and delightful. The series did start more on the kinky end, and has gradually been moving away from that, leaning more to sensuality and eroticism within a historical romance setting.

I have all Lavinia Kent's books and am always looking for her newest. She writes very hot historical romance which I love reading. And Ruby and her Captain - get a fan...............that was the first Bound and Determined book. She writes well and quite steamy stories. This one features Sin and James and how their relationship progresses. James first meets her in a brothel. Good character development and some very hot scenes. You should really read all the Bound and Determined. You will not be disappointed.

This is my first Lavinia Kent book so I had no idea what to expect. And I have to say that it was very good. This book has a lot of romance favourites all wrapped into one. We have the heroine who has always had a crush on her best friend's older brother, a heroine who likes to be unconventional and live her life not according to the rules that society dictates, but to her own rules. And a dominant hero who seems to have a penchant for BDSM, but we never quite get to witness its full force. And of course a misunderstanding that leads to a marriage proposal.

Cynthia "Sin" Westhope has heard the rumours about her childhood best friend Jasmine owning a brothel. She wants to help her and support her. Covered in veils, she decides to visit her and is more than a little intrigued by her best friend's new life. While there Jasmine's brother James pays her a visit. Sin hides and eavesdrops on James. She has been in love with him for as long as she can remember. And even though he plays the lead in all her fantasies, it seems that James has no recollection of the little girl who used to dog his every step when they were growing up.

James wants to save his sister from this life, but it seems that Madame Blanche has no intention of leaving her brothel or her illegitimate daughter. So he comes up with a plan to save her. But when his men abduct the wrong women, he finds himself in a very compromising position. This mysterious and alluring woman is none other than his childhood friend Sin. And his nickname for her take on a whole new meaning when he sees the woman that she has become and can't seem to keep his eyes or his hands off her.

The sexual tension never ebbs in this highly erotic romance. With creative love scenes and a heroine who is more than willing to get rid of her virginity and discover all that passion has to offer with the man of her dreams, this romance will definitely leave you breathless!

This is the first time I have read a book by this author and I liked this book. The author is very talented in her writing and this book was well written. The characters and the plot in this book kept me entertained. It is important to note that this is an erotic historical romance and not meant for someone who is not comfortable with sexual content.

I really enjoyed this continuation of Ruby's business. It was a nice twist to the ongoing story.

I liked Cynthia. Even when her best friend has left the ton and made a scandalous life for herself, she still keeps the friendship going even when the ton would scorn her for it. But it's that friendship that gets her into trouble...

James, James, James... trying to save his sister, his plans go awry when his men abduct the wrong woman. He soon finds himself falling for his sister's best friend. What's a man suppose to do?

This was a nice addition to the Bound and Determined series. I'm interested in reading how the series will continue with a new proprietress at the helm.

Lavinia Kent’s Bound and Determined series is one of the best current series being written. “Tangled in Sin” is the latest offering in the series and is a fantastic read. Lavinia Kent’s books are pretty much a guaranteed five-star read.

Cynthia known as “Sin” is shocked to find out her friend is now a brothel owner and a mother. Sin continues to visit Jasmine and her new daughter even though it could compromise her reputation.

Jasmine’s brother James is furious that his sister is running a brothel. He is determined to reinstate her at his father’s home and convince her to give up her daughter. James hatches a plot to kidnap Jasmine and force her to do his bidding, but he makes a mistake and Sin is taken instead.

Sin has always had a bit of a crush on James and is surprised when he doesn’t recognize her. She is cold, tired and very mad about being kidnapped and believes James is her rescuer. Sin is shocked when she wakes up to James’ caresses and is even more shocked when takes her virginity roughly. She is even more unhappy to spend days in a cabin with him after the unfortunate events.

This book has less super-steamy passionate scenes and more feelings and emotions than the other books in the series. Very good story, and I hope Ms. Kent continues the series. I would love to find out what happened to Jasmine and see her have a happy ending.

I enjoyed this story, but parts of it seemed to drag on a bit too long. I liked the characters and the story line.

Lavinia Kents Bound and Determined series are always sexy, seductive and surprising. They flirty with the taboo and it's a refreshing change of setting for historical novels. This erotic, steamy series is addictive and I can't wait for the next installment.

Author Lavinia Kent continues her Bound and Determined series with this uncommon erotica full of rich characters and extremely hot love scenes.

Primary female character Lady Cynthia Westhope is a virgin and the authors portrayal of her introduction into forbidden desires is not only believable but very hot reading. She's demure with a feisty edge and I loved how she blossomed after her first experience. It is refreshing how she evolves in this story as she becomes more powerful in her thinking about her options after losing her virginity.

James Winters the primary male character was pretty much what one thinks a DOM would be like, in charge and very sensual. But underneath his armor the reader will get to see slow glimpses of what he keeps hidden. It was quite entertaining to see how he went about trying to make Lady Cynthia change her mind about his offer.

This is a great story and a fast read filled with hot, hot love scenes. I give this 4 STARS across the board.

An ARC was provided for an honest review.

This is part of the Bound and Determined series of novels, so there are nods to characters from prior novels. It's a fun addition if you've read them, but not necessary to understand this one.

It's a fun and almost silly conflict between Cynthia (nicknamed Sin as a child, and the source of the title) and Jasmine's brother James. They get to know each other in the cottage they're trapped in by the rain, then in the guise of Cynthia visiting his aunt. The affection they have for each other is clearly there, and James is a bit high-handed in how he takes care of others. Of course, that's tempered by the end, and Cynthia goes from innocent to a more active participant in her relationship.

I like Cynthia, and enjoyed the snippets of her relationship with Jasmine. James starts off as a little less likable than the usual romantic hero, but his changes help fix that. A cute story, but I liked the others in the series better.

You totally can judge this book by it's cover - this book is super HOT! Historical romance with an interesting story line and a lot of steam = perfect!

Lady Cynthia has finally found her old childhood friend (and daughter of a Duke) and learns the truth... she is running a high class brothel under the name Madame Blanche. While visiting her she has to suddenly hide because her friend's brother shows up unexpectedly. James was her crush while they were growing up together. Although its been many years, he is still the most handsome man she's met.
James is determined to bring his sister home and devises a plan.... but I goes completely wrong and the person he thinks has been abducted and he's rescuing is not his sister but some other woman..... The story is filled with heat, romance and twists..... I loved every minute!!

As always I want to thank Random House Loveswept and Netgalley for providing us with a copy of this book so that we could bring you this review.

I will admit I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Madam Blanche and what happened to Madam Rouge's after Madam Rouge left it to her sister. But this was a good way to start off the change, with Madam Blanche's brother and best friend falling in love with each other. The fact that Lady Cynthia has had feeling for him for years made it even more special for me. I can't wait to see what else is going to happen in Madam Blanche's.

I give this book 4 kidnapped kisses...

Happy Reading... Adri

This is the latest installment in the series, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love the connection of the brothel for these stories. Cynthia's desire to help a friend pulled me in. She was willing to do what she could and ended up in trouble. Her childhood crush, James, tries to do the right thing but Cynthia is not willing to accept that offer. Her want for love as a basis for a relationship is strong. The attraction between them led to push and pulls, and I loved the journey.

I received a copy of this story through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

Tangled in Sin is a delightful exercise in sensuous, sultry and seductive wrapped up in a historical bow. This book is almost wall to wall sex but it is so well written that it flows and draws the reader along to the point where of course we believe Cynthia and James truly love each other. The only down side for me was a number of character name mix-ups early on in which Cynthia was referred to as Jasmine. Minor detail. Good book, best I've read of the Bound and Determined series and I'm looking for more.
