Fantastic! Dean Koontz always brings his A game when it comes to carefully constructing thrillers with a strong protagonist. When Jane Hawk sets out to find what really happened to her husband, she uncovers way more than she bargained for. Reading the first few chapters hooked me in, and I wanted to know more about Jane. I love these types of books where things start to unravel as you continue reading each chapter. I'm super excited to read the next Jane Hawk novel. Kudos to the author for giving us amazing stories!

Dean Koontz has always been a favorite author of mine, but I have felt his later works have not matched up as well to some of his earlier excellent novels like Watchers and Lightning. The Silent Corner is much more in the spirit of his earlier works and I really enjoyed it. Jane Hawk is a wonderful character to root for, a strong more-than-capable woman determined to fight the dark forces that caused her husband's suicide. As always, I love the sense of hope and optimism even in the darkest of times that are present in Dean Koontz's books. This was a thrilling enjoyable read and I was pleasantly surprised to see that there will be a sequel, which I will be eagerly anticipating. I highly recommend this one!

I received this book through NetGalley and its publisher, Bantam, and sure am glad I did. From the first page, it grabs your attention. The protagonist’s, Jane, husband commits suicide. She is a FBI agent taking time off after his death and is covertly investigating the national rise of suicides. She and her son are threatened and Jane takes her son to a good friend for safety. There is a touch of a Sci-Fi spin that feels very possible. It keeps you riveted. Using her FBI skills, this is Jane’s journey to identify the reason for her husband’s suicide. It’s a book you don’t want to put down. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it.

This book kept me on my toes the entire time! Jane is on the run after her husbands suicide and she is determined to figure out this mystery on her own. She is very resourceful! This is actually my first Dean Koontz book that I have read and it most certainly will not be my last! I can't wait until the next book in this series comes out! This book kept me on my toes and I couldn't put it down. Excellent thrilling read.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed this book even though it isn't a genre I usually read. I liked the female protagonist, Jane Hawk, who becomes the most wanted fugitive in America because she refuses to accept that her husband committed suicide of his own volition. The technology that is used to control human thoughts is an unsettling prospect and it reminds you that, if you're connected to a smartphone, your life is pretty much an open book to whomever wants information about you. I recommend to readers who like fast-paced thrillers.

This was a good, fast-paced, intense beginning to what looks like a really good series! I really liked Jane and I'm rooting for her to wrap it all up and get back to her son! I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

This new series from Dean Koontz will not disappoint his readers.

Let me start by saying that I am a long time Koontz fan. I absolutely devoured his earlier books and could not wait for a new one to be published. But his more recent books are just disappointing to me. I had hoped that this one would rekindle my love for his work, but the spark is gone. I didn't care for the characters and the plot was slow and somewhat boring. I just didn't have any desire to finish it and it makes me sad because this is the start of a new series that I was really looking forward to.

Thank you to netgalley for my free copy of THE SILENT CORNER in exchange for an honest review.

What a twisted, deep world this story weaves. Mystery and suspense with a bit more. What a creative twist on the common thriller. I love reading Koontz and this book did not disappoint. The reason for the four star rating was the ongoing descriptors that pulled me from the otherwise fast moving train.

This book is the beginning of a new series about the heroine Jane, who is fearless and determined. Can't wait to find out what she does next!

I'm sad, not that this book was sad but I'm sad that I didn't like this one as much as I had hoped. The idea the concept it really intrigued me but the execution was not what I expected not after Ashley Bell, which I really loved. It was well written Koontz has an excellent active setting but does tend to get a little to wordy, and as much as I like backstory reading an almost repetitive internal monologue gets tedious. I could not empathize with Jane, I could not connect to her. You know she is FBI and had a loving husband and has an adorable boy that she entrusted his care to two friends, she just seemed to cold and methodical to me and really whiny at other times. Everything she is doing is out of love but she has let her obsession take over, she's paranoid and doesn't trust anyone but a limited few, but as they say you're not paranoid if "they" are actually out to get you.

The Silent Corner is the first book in a new series for Koontz it follows Jane Hawk whose husband unexpectedly committed suicide, afterwards she became convinced that he was all part of some massive conspiracy and his death was part of it. Jane has gone to the silent corner, a term used when you are not off grid but hidden on the grid. She is questioning people who have had loved ones commit suicide and has figured out just where this may have all come from and through some shady people and the use of blackmail she just might have figured out the exact person who is behind the whole thing. Jane must trust someone, that someone in a short time won her trust and friendship and can help her get to the bottom of it.

Overall, I was disappointed with it. Disappointed in the same way I was disappointed in Fear Nothing and Seize the Night, I stopped reading Koontz for a while after that. I don't think I'll read the next book because I frankly just don't care what happens.

This week, well just actually today, I finished "The Silent Corner" by Dean Koontz. This is a great cerebral thriller, and I have to say Mr. Koontz is always a good read. He is one of my all-time favorite authors, I've been reading his books for probably almost 2 decades now. As a teenager, I even wrote him a letter condemning him for killing one of his characters. He was ever so polite to reply back, which I never expected!

This book centers around Jane Hawk, FBI agent on a hunt to find out what really happened to her husband. As the story unfolds, Hawk is pulled into a much deeper network of corruption spanning across the USA. I really don't want to go into too much detail, because the story unfolds revealing lots of twisty-darky-turns that kept me reading well past my bedtime. Filled with cutting edge technology, gripping fight-scenes and lots of emotional drama, I really enjoyed this book. It reminded me a lot of his older works like "Watchers" and "Strangers".

If you like suspense, I recommend. If you like a strong female leading character, you will probably like this book. Jane Hawk is a likeable character, which sometimes makes all the difference in a story. Dean Koontz website has a broader universe you can explore associated Jane's story, which probably leads into the next book. I've not gotten a chance to check it out, but if you are into interactive material then you may like that. I can't wait for the next installation.

Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. I have a fairly extensive list of authors including Dean Koontz and at least two dozen others whose new releases I eagerly await and mark on my calendar. The opportunity to read an ARC from one of my go to authors was a great surprise and one that certainly did not disappoint. While I don’t think I have missed reading any of his books, many have left me wishing for more, while a few I’ve just finished and never given them another thought. Knowing that the character of Jane Hawk has more to tell in future books was an added bonus if the book engaged me, and yes it did.
Jane Hawk has lost her husband to an apparent suicide, something totally out of character for the man she knows and loves. Not only does Jane sense something darker and more sinister, but as an F.B.I. agent, she has the skills and determination to push through her grief and discover the truth. Jane discovers other “suicides” that don’t ring true and she finds herself being followed, not by someone who wants to provide answers, but by someone who wants to silence her forever. With no idea who she can trust, Jane goes off the grid and finds that the wrong people can use mind control with terrifying and tragic results.
As a long-time fan of Dean Koontz, I am always excited when he releases a new book and especially one with a character that I just really enjoyed. I loved Odd Thomas and enjoyed following his journey through multiple adventures and I am excited to see where Jane Hawk goes in the future.

It is good, very descriptive and has a very engaging premise. It can drag a bit at times but the character is very interesting. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone who has liked a Dean Koontz book in the past.

Dean Koontz has been a favorite author of mine for years. He wrote what is still one of my favorite series of all time, Odd Thomas, giving me my hands-down most treasured character, Odd (I love you, Oddie!). I couldn't wait to meet the heroine of the new Jane Hawk series, and I’m thrilled to report that she and this story delivered everything I'd hoped they would.

FBI Agent Jane Hawk’s loving husband Nick shockingly took his own life, leading her to investigate his suspicious death. She soon discovers that the suicide rate is on the rise with the most unexpected people seemingly taking their own lives. Many of them have left baffling notes that don’t make sense to their loved ones, much like the one Nick left for Jane. Jane, now on leave from the FBI, is a woman on a mission to stop these criminal masterminds – to keep them from doing to others what they did to Nick and above all else to keep what she treasures most safe. It's true that hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, but it pales in comparison to Jane Hawk when she realizes her beloved husband and soulmate was taken from her in a nefarious and twisted plot that reaches far and wide, embroiling some extremely powerful people in high positions. Is there anyone left that Jane can trust? The more Jane uncovers, the more people want her stopped. And she must do it all off the grid because they are always watching.

Jane is absolutely fierce and is an easy heroine to get behind. I love how intelligent and cunning she is. What happened to her is heartbreaking, but what she does about it is empowering. The Silent Corner is a story that is incredibly relevant to this age and time. The author’s always brilliant and descriptive writing held me captive to the incredible plot, while thrilling chase scenes and gripping narrative made this a new favorite Koontz story. I appreciated that there was no cliffhanger in this first installment but an intriguing window into what's to come. Waiting on the next book, The Whispering Room, releasing in 2018, will be an exercise in extreme patience. Highly recommend to fans of Koontz as well as sci-fi and suspense and above all to readers who adore a kick-ass, skilled, and tenacious heroine.

A huge thank-you to Bantam for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Omggg, this thriller was edge of your seat awesome! Jane is relentless in her search for what instigated her husband's suicide when he had never suffered depressive symptoms and was living a happy successful life. Things get crazier when you think it can't get any more, but they do. I couldn't put this book down and was dismayed to find out there's another book to the story and I'll have to wait for it to be published.

Leaving 5 star review on Goodreads and Amazon.

This was a real page turner! When investigating her husband's apparent suicide, Jane Hawk discovers a disturbing trend, as well as a huge threat to everyone she knows. I like Jane as a main character - she is smart, intuitive, and very competent. The last 40% especially was hard to stop reading. Everything wasn't totally resolved, but it is a trilogy, so a complete resolution would be a bit much to expect. I'll definitely watch for the next books!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an eARC of this book.

I had not read a Dean Koontz in awhile and thought this one might be less horror filled than some of his others. I was also drawn by the mind control premise which I did, in fact, find intriguing and frightening. The good - filled with action and many interesting characters. It is a bit long and parts of it were slow going to the point that midway, I thought it would never end. Still interesting enough to keep one reading.

The bad - characters are not fully developed but to be expected since this is book one in a new series. There is much that is not believable. My mind can move toward the fantastic pretty easily but there was just too much that just would not happen....and I am not speaking of the mind control, scientific parts. Much is left hanging though the immediate action has reached a pausing point but things are far from settled.

The ugly - it is not often that male authors can successfully present female protagonists and IMO, that is the case in this book. Make Jane a man and his actions as an FBI agent would not be much different than Jane's. Mostly, I think Jane does not think like a woman would when she is going about her job. BUT the author then takes her to opposite extreme when it involves her child and makes her a stereotyped female.

A reluctant 3 stars because I didn't hate the book and there was lots of actio

I was a bit disappointed, but I believe it's because my expectations were maybe too high? It was definitely the end that threw things off for me. As a reader, I feel like if the ending is a let down then the whole book is a let down because I already invested so much into the book, the ending should be just as amazing! I needed more action or more of a secure conclusion, don't leave me hanging. I did like that it was a bit dark and not entirely predictable. I liked it enough to read more and am looking forward to it.

Dean Koontz loves his words and in the beginning, I was hoping for an abridged version since this book starts out a bit too wordy for my taste. A tad overly descriptive and in parts repetitive, but once the reader reaches part three and gets into the flow, the book just opens up and you find it hard to put down. I am not going to say that “The Silent Corner” is in equal running with vintage Koontz, but this book does come close.

Not a usual reader of tech/sci-fi, I am a bit out of my element when it comes to describing rogue FBI Agent Jane Hawk who after discovering a surge in suicides, including that of her highly decorated Marine husband, sets out to right the wrongs of a conspiracy that reaches the highest echelons of the technology world.

Nano brain implants are injected into those that this particular unnamed group has deemed either unnecessary or are needed to perform services for a wealthy select few. A mind-controlled group that will perform without question, or if necessary, end their own lives.

Jane is staying off grid, she has left her son in the hands of the only people that she trusts, but even with that, she knows that decisions are going to be made that will affect them all. With the help of an interesting character with access to interesting toys, Jane and Dougal head out to make a grand entrance and hopefully make a dent into this empire without having to leave her Silent Corner, that place in the world where a person can live off grid, but still be able to use the benefits of the internet.

Though this book ends, Jane’s story does not. I do not know how many installments are planned (I see that Dean is currently writing book number 3) for Jane, but with such a far-reaching conspiracy unfolding, this tough and uncompromising woman will have many either fearing her or cheering her on.
