The Kitchen Counter Cooking School is one of those books I requested via Netgalley when I first started blogging and hadn't worked out a good system of keeping track of books to review. It archived before I could read it. While looking through my digital library for audiobooks, I ran across the title and thought it would be a great opportunity to try it.
After listening to it, I really wished I had gotten to read it when it first came out. I enjoyed it so much. I'm thinking of buying myself a copy of the book because there are sections that I would like to read again, which isn't really possible when listening to an audiobook.
I'm a decent cook. I don't eat out much (thanks to the pandemic, I haven't eaten out since March 14), limit processed foods, and buy a veggie & fruit basket a couple of times a month from a local produce store. But I love cookbooks and always looking to increase my cooking skills. I've recently started making my own spaghetti sauce and broth.
As I stick to a few flavors that I'm familiar with and don't branch out much, I found the sections about the taste tests and different spices to combine for certain flavors (I can do Mexican and Italian fairly well, but I would love to expand my options). I hate for food to go to waste so I really liked the chapter about leftovers.
I know we've all been cooking more at home these past few months and you may want to expand your culinary repertoire, then you should pick up this book. It goes over the basics of using a knife to how to bake bread, easy pasta dishes, and plenty of pointers to elevate your cooking.
