Sassy. Comical. A great books that brings the idea of urban fantasy into the 21st century. I love witchy books, so I’ve read my share, and I can say that this book had me enthralled from the very beginning. A FABULOUS main character who kicks butt with a sassy mouth, but the story is complex enough to go beyond being character driven. Five stars. Loved loved loved.
It was just "OK" in my book. The writing felt forced in regards to all the 'wit & humor' of the main character. It was just an average, only mildly snarky witch story.
Thank you to net galley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
I got to chapter 8 and couldn't go any further.
There didn't seem to be a plot to speak of, or even the beginnings of one. A lot of the writing felt like "filler", did I really need a couple of pages describing what the animals liked to eat, right down to the brand names?
Not for me, although it does seem I am in the minority on this.
Excellent urban fantasy
I loved this book. JT Lawrence tells a great story about witches. It is funny, sad and touching. Although fantasy, this does not play a major role in the story; it is about people and how they react. The writing is well-paced the characters well developed (the protagonist’s inner voice is one of my favorite characters) and there is some very good action. I strongly recommend this book for fans of the genre and I look forward to reading more stories in the series.
Raven Kane is a modern day witch with a lot to deal with, I found her to be a likeable character and the humour throughout the story made it easy to read, however it took me a good few chapters to get into the book and Ravens inner monologue was quite annoying and not explained well enough.
The plot was decent but it jumped around a lot and again, touched on things that really could've done with a bit more explanation.
I would've liked to have found out more about some of the other characters and why they were how they were such as Jessica and even Luella.
Overall, an easy read

The main character, Raven is a woman who earns her money by being just that, a witch, which I liked because it was refreshing. She is extremely quirky and by extension, interesting. But what I loved was the ending, and how it explained the whole book (I'm not going to make any spoilers, I'm nice like that).
The one bad thing I can say was that I didn't get much emotion from her, apart from tension from the plot. There was something about the main character that I didn't get.
This is a great fantasy book with a really peculiar witch with loads of problems at the same time, and who lives in a zoo (is the only thing I can think of to explain it). I really want to know if the author is planning on writing another one!
