Susan May Warren delivers a remarkable inspirational story in A Matter of Trust. While the characters’ lives may be very different from mine, I always learn new spiritual truths from her books. Such is the case with Gage Watson and Ella Blair whose lives have been or are in the public spotlight.
Part of the Montana Rescue Series, there is danger on the mountains within the Glacier National Park. Surviving the elements, finding the lost, revealed secrets and strong emotional ties keep this story rolling and interesting. While God forgives, sometimes you must face your actions from the past while trusting the people hurt to forgive you too. Easier said than done but so vital as shown in this wonderful book.
Gage has finally got his life back together after somebody destroyed his career. With the snow creating avalanche like condition he has to protect his mountain and his team, it seems though the past has a way of catching up with you when you least expect it. Ella has not been back in Montana since the last time she saw Gage. This trip is to save her brother from himself before he does something stupid. However it seems that she might be to late. Can she protect the one last person who is related to her, or will Gage send her away even though she is hiding a huge secret?
This book did not disappoint at all. The author has a way of writing suspense thats different then your normal murder mystery. How ever she has a way of getting the readers attention and keeping you on the edge of you seat waiting and wondering what is going to happen next. The other thing I really enjoyed in this book was the way that the author created a mental picture you could almost see yourself there in the thick of the action holding your breath along with the characters instead of reading an account of whats happening. When Gage is forced to face a choice your also reminded with choice that sometime you have to face in order to get pass the past. This book seriously was pack full of action and in the end leads up to the next book which I can not wait to get my hands on. I truly can't wait to see where this group goes next. I also hope to there is a lot more to come. I highly recommend this book. Its the perfect summer read, and if you haven't read the other books in the series grab them to because you won't want to put them down.
I love this series (Montana Rescue) and I loved Gage and Ella’s story. Besides the romance and the fascinating (main and secondary) characters, "A Matter of Trust" has plenty of adventure, danger and terrifying situations in this white world, both beautiful and frightening.
Gage is a wonderful character, a man “who wears his mistakes like a brand on his forehead”.
Usually I complain about lack of research on the subjects, in this case it’s the opposite; Susan May Warren’s descriptions are realistic but passionate, and show a lot of knowledge about ski, snowboarding and rescue procedures in this harsh land. The descriptions are so vivid that sometimes I was a bit stressed with all those dangerous situations.
I loved the characters and how they relate to this stunning landscape; they’re solidly crafted and we feel we know them.
I was a bit surprised, though, with the dialogue about God between Gage and Ella when they were trapped in a slide, their “bodies cemented in snow”, I felt its length was a bit far-fetched.
A Matter of Trust is another great book by Susan May Warren that you will not want to put down. Susan has a way of grabbing your attention from the start, in such a way that you feel as if you know each character and want to know more. I love that there are several characters with great storylines and connections, and that their stories continue in each book.
Ella, a Senator and former high power attorney, won a major lawsuit against Gage, a famous snowboarding champion who lost his title and all that was dear to him after the death of his friend. And, he lost his friendship with Ella, the woman he was falling in love with.
A few years later Gage is a ski patrol for the Peak Rescue Team in Montana. where the suspense starts as Ella and Gage team up on the dangerous mountain to find her brother that has gone missing in the snow storm.
You will meet friends that will do anything it takes to help one another, even hiding deep secrets with much suspense. A story of love, friendships, forgiveness and grace. A story you do not want to miss. I cannot wait for Book #4 in the Montana Rescue Series!
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book and give my honest opinion.
"A Matter of Trust" is a Christian romance full of excitement and adventure. It's the third book in a series, but you can understand this book without reading the previous ones. However, certain events from the previous books will be spoiled since there are ongoing story lines in the series (mainly, the missing niece theme).
This story contained exciting snow rescues and snowboarding down dangerous slopes. I liked Gage, who was just trying to do the right thing and ended up paying a hard price. He's a more mature person for what he endured, but he hasn't forgiven himself for not being able to stop a tragic accident that wasn't really his fault. Ella was one of the lawyers who destroyed his career, which hurt since they'd been romantically involved before the accident. So these complex, likable characters have to deal with the past while trying to save Ella's brother, who is doing a dangerous snowboarding route right as a snowstorm hits.
The Christian theme was Gage and Ella realizing that God loves and cares for us even when we make bad decisions or mistakes. Just like the SAR team helps people who don't deserve it, God's help doesn't depend upon us deserving it (thank God!). There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd highly recommend this exciting novel.
Swoon! Another fantastic inspirational romance from one of the industry's finest authors. Susan May Warren crafts another adrenaline-fueled, outdoor adventure novel, with a delightful message of grace and forgiveness expertly woven into the plot. Gage and Ella have a compelling history together as characters, which threatens to keep them apart. Their combined efforts to rescue her brother from the mountain was so much fun to read. I felt like I was there, snowboarding right along with them and braving the elements. The whole cast of characters in Mercy Falls have compelling stories to tell, actually, which is why I enjoy reading The Montana Rescue series so much. I can't wait to see what happens between Ty and Brette, and I'm very eager for Pete and Jess to tell their story, as well.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of this novel. All opinions stated here are my own.
Do you find it difficult to trust others?
Have you had your life fall apart because of secrets you don’t want others to know?
Gage “Watt” Watson was once an up and coming super-star of the snowboarding community until one miss judgement and tragedy put an end to it all. His life went from sky high to a deep low in a matter of days. Now he’s just trying to put that part of his life behind him and make a new life with purpose.
Ella is a young US Senator who only wants to protect those she cares about.
Can these two learn to trust each other and put their past behind them?
This new book in the Montana Rescue series by Susan May Warren tackles some of these issues and a whole lot more. It’s packed full of suspense, action, drama, and bits of romance to warm your heart. You’ll be taken on the ride of your life with her fantastic word pictures that vividly describe landscapes many don’t see. Depicting glorious mountain experiences and frightful close calls. I’m looking forward to the next book in this series because I know it will keep me on my toes with the action-pack adventure that is in all of Susan May Warren’s books.
I also enjoyed reading about many of the other characters from the series and what’s happening in their lives. I read this book in two days because I just couldn’t put it down.
I received a copy of this wonderful book from the author to read. All opin
The Senator and the snowboarder, talk about opposites that attract. Ella is a very young Senator, skilled snowboarder and a lawyer. Gage is a rescuer with PEAK, former pro freerider, and a bit of a lost soul. Having followed her brother, Oliver, to Montana in hopes of talking him out of being a ski bum for the semester when he commits a very risky stunt. The only person she trusts to help her is Gage, however they have history and a bridge may have been burned. I was incredibly impressed with Warren's knowledge of snowboarding, skiing terminology and life saving skills needed to make this story come to life. This entire series was written carefully with strong characters, interwoven relationships and incredible bonds. Each book has a romantic interest in the forefront, a life saving event, and a couple secondary relationships that slowly progress throughout the series. I'm dying to get to Ian and Sierra! I was thrilled to get a copy from Netgalley and have voluntarily written this review, hopefully I've sold you on this book. The entire series is wonderful, thrilling, exciting and a bit romantic but it's not necessary to have read the other books to enjoy this one. Reading them in order gives a more complete view of the characters, but if you have this one you will not be confused.
Once again, Ms Warren gives us a thought provoking story. While others will give you the summary of the story, I will go a different direction.
This is a story about faith in God, about keeping secrets that can affect many lives and not always in a good way, About misunderstanding , and about the pressures parents put on their children and also on how some individuals , in order to please the parents, will try to be the “perfect” offspring. It’s also a story about fears and past mistakes that can hinder the individual’s future. A story about regrets, and hurts. But it is also a story about hope, love and putting our faith in God.
In the midst of all of this, the author’s description of snowboarding down a treacherous mountain will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Ms Warren gives us plots within the main plot. We revisit with the rescue crew who are keeping more secrets than the CIA. Definitely more stories to come out of this group of complex and interesting individuals . All with a past from which they are trying to recover and/or overcome.
Kudos once again to Ms Warren for another winner.
I was gifted this copy by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Susan May Warren has done it again! 'A Matter of Trust' was another spectacular addition to the Montana Rescue Series. I've been super eager to read this book, it's been one of my most anticipated books of the year. Gage was a bit of a mystery to me in the first two books, so I was excited to learn more about him.
Gage, a former champion snowboarder, lost it all after the death of one of his fans. Now on the ski patrol and the PEAK Rescue team, he's still trying to put the pieces of his life back together. Ella, one of the country's youngest senators, is in Montana to track down her wayward brother. When their paths cross, Gage is shocked to see Ella again, the woman who had a hand in destroying his career. Can they put the past behind them and work together to find her brother?
Warren is a master wordsmith. I felt as though I was standing right there in the middle of this story beside these characters. I could feel the chill on the mountain, the biting wind, snow falling all around me (which is saying something because it was over 100 degrees outside while I was reading it.)
I loved Gage. He's super endearing... and not to mention majorly swoonworthy! Ella's got a lot of self doubt, but she's someone who really cares about helping those in need, making the world a better place. They're both living with major regrets. It was great watching them try to work through their struggles and emerge stronger for it.
I loved getting to catch up with all the characters from the previous books and meet new ones, too. Pete's one of my favorite characters, so I'm super happy that his and Jess' journey continued. Ty's got a bigger supporting role in this story, which I really loved. He was always in the background in the previous books, so it was nice to get to know him better.
This could probably be read as a standalone, but I'd recommend reading the series from the beginning in order to get the full enjoyment out of it. There's a lot of characters whose story arcs continue to grow with each new book and even though the author does a great job of recapping previous books, I think it's best to start with 'Wild Montana Skies'.
With each new book I read of Susan May Warren's, she further cements herself as one of my all time favorite authors. Each book in this series seems to get better and better. 'Wild Montana Skies' and 'Rescue Me' are some of my favorites that I've read this year and I can add 'A Matter of Trust' right there with them. I seriously can't wait for Ian and Sierra's story in 'Troubled Waters'. It's been a long time coming and I'm so anxious to read it!
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and comments are my own honest opinion.
This is the first book I have read by Susan May Warren and I loved it. This story is fast paced, has a lot of adventure and I enjoyed reading it.
This author has a wonderful mastery of the English language. Her writing flows, her description allows the reader to see her intentions clearly in their imaginations. The storyline grabs the attention and holds on until the very end. A true master at spinning a wonderful, suspenseful, romantic tale.
I hadn't read the previous books in the series and I can see that it would have been helpful to read the books in order to better understand the characters and for chronological order. Also, this book is best read in the winter, as it has to do with skiing and snowboarding (I read it in June as an ARC and it is scheduled for release in July).
This is a clean, Christian romance, suitable for all ages. If you like novels with great storylines and a positive Christian message, I highly recommend this author. If you are new to Ms. Warren's books, it is best to read them in chronological order, although they can still be read independently. "A Matter of Trust" is a wonderful story. I plan to go back and read the rest of the books in order.
Wow, what an outstanding story. Great descriptive writing, I felt as if I was on the slope with Gage and Ella. The story had depth with developed characters. Gage and Ella discover who they are and how to trust again after betrayal and who to put that trust in. This is one of Susan May Warren’s best books and it was hard to put down, it grabbed me from the beginning and didn’t let loose until the end. A thrilling great read. Can hardly wait until the next book in this series. I just keeps getting better.
Another fast paced, edge of your seat adventure from Susan May Warren. I'm thoroughly enjoying the Montana Rescue series, that follows that risks and daring rescues of the PEAK team. It's Glacier NP, my favourite and I love reading about everything they have to tackle in this gorgeous, but so dangerous park. Being on this team requires being masters at their particular skills. In book 3 we get to discover the tragedy behind Gage's once illustrious fame as an extreme free riding snowboarder. The woman who was responsible for tearing it all down. It's been 3 years, and he's working his job as Ski Patrol at Blackbear. A certain wreck less teenager and his sister are staying at the resort. Their paths cross and a stunned Gage is left flailing. Not only is history repeating but what were laid to rest, but the repressed feelings for the sister rise to the surface.
Ella Blair has followed her brother to the resort. Entitled and out to prove himself she fears he will do something that is way out of league. She's here to stop him, but she never imagined she'd discover the one man she's loved and then destroyed with the most brutal of betrayals working on the Ski Patrol.
In the acknowledgment the author shares this insight, which perfectly lays out the spiritual troubles raised by Gage. "...lets us choose our line, but he stays with us if take our own course. And helps us pick up the debris when we wipe out." God allows us to make our own choices in life. Agency is a great gift, one we misuse over and over, and He lets us. Meanwhile He sticks by us and helps us deal with the mess afterward.
I'm giving this book 4.5 stars. There's a few things that niggled in regards to the camping element. Gage takes a 2 man bivvy with him on the rescue to Heaven's Peak. All campers know that the sleeping berth rating of tents would never actually fit the number it says, especially bivvys. They are designed as Emergancy tents or backpacking, with minimal space, they aren't tall. In fact many are designed for just lying down in. Gage is hanging stuff from the top, and then later all 3 of them seem to be able to get inside. Second, all instruction for camping stoves tell you to not use inside a tent. You need proper ventilation. A minor few details, maybe, but they bothered me. Everything else just wowed me from start to finish. I love the characters Susan has created for this team, and the continual inclusion of all of them to some degree with each book. Ty has always been somewhat a mystery, and I absolutely loved getting to know him through the minor second story within the plot. Where is Brette? Will we see her again?
I always love an epilogue, but it seemed real jumpy the sudden switch to summer (?) and fires and Jess being in trouble. I'm looking forward to Troubled Waters (book 4). This team has wormed their way into my heart.
This story was so enthralling. The characters were well developed and the story had several different relationships involved but the story flowed together. The rescue scenes were hair raising. This is a book that is hard put down.
A Matter of Trust is a wonderful book. You actually put in down so you can wait to finish it and slow down the process. You don’t want it be over. Had a new twist that was interesting to me. First book I’ve read on the world of snow skiing. Gage Watson was a pro until a tragedy caused him to give up the limelight and he went to work with the rescue team. The story starts with him chasing a young man named Ollie dressed in an inflatable T. Rex costume down the sloops as the kid went closed off areas.
Gage wasn’t the only one trying to rescue him. Ollie’s sister, Ella Blair, had flown to Montana to stop Ollie from attempting one of Gage’s dangerous runs that was showing on You-Tube.
As the story unfolds, Ella realizes that Gage is the rescuer and can’t believe it. She and Gage had a wonderful few days together with a promise of more until the horrible tragedy occurred. Ella knew she played a part in Gage giving up his dreams.
Next Ollie disappears and Ella knew he had gone on the dangerous run. Now she had to talk Gage into rescuing him. She insists on going with him. So begins an adventure with many twists and close calls. Could they put the baggage behind them and trust each other again? Very good book.
I don't think I can write a proper review for this book!
It completely blowed me away!
If you haven't read Susan May Warren's Montana Rescue series (I recommend you do so!!), you can still read this book and understand what's going on... But I think the story can be relished more if you read the entire series. Because, even though each book has two main characters, the story is much more than about these two. It is about a team trying with all their might to "help people who are lost, or hurt, or in over their heads". A team filled with people that have past baggage, but are willing to help each other out and point them back to God.
In this book, the two main characters, Ella and Gage, had fallen in love three years ago, but a tragic accident and a lawsuit tore them apart, leaving each one hurt and trying to pull their own life back together. For Gage, that ment trying as best as he can to build a new self trying to impact people's life by doing something obviously good instead of seeking fame for himself and being a bad example to others. As for Ella, she was more than ever determined to prove herself to other people, convinced that she needs to earn other people's love.
Both are stuck in the past and to their mistakes, even though they think they are walking towards something that can help them rebuild their lives. But when circumstances bring them together to save a life, they'll be challenged to put their pride aside and learn to trust again. And in the wilderness they will come face-to-face with truths of who they are and who they actually want to be.
Ella, Gage, alongside an endearing set of secondary characters, will learn to stop hiding, let the truth come to light, even if it hurts, and trust God to shine His grace into their lives.
I finished this book longing for more and I can barely wait for the next setting!!
A Matter of Trust by Susan May Warren is an engaging story of learning to trust in all circumstances.
Gage Watson was a champion freeriding snowboarder until his career was destroyed by a bad decision. He allowed Dylan McMahon to follow him on a dangerous run that cost Dylan his life and the family sued Gage costing him everything. He now works at PEAK rescue to save people who get in trouble on the slopes. Ella Blair had tried to talk Gage out of taking Dylan with him and later was one of the attorneys for the family. She has a secret that could have saved Gage but was unable to share the information due to confidentially issues. She has now followed her daredevil brother to the slopes to try to stop him from making a dangerous run he has seen Gage complete on video. What will happen when she and Gage meet again? Will Gage be willing to help her talk her brother out of making the run? Will her brother need to be rescued after attempting the run or will he surprise his sister by completing it successfully?
I loved this book and couldn’t put it down! It was full of excitement and action that moved quickly from page one to the end. The PEAK team are a bunch of misfits who all have their own personal demons to deal with while working together to save lives. I felt I got to know every one of them and was rooting for them to be successful in rescues and their personal lives. As with many stories, and real life, things are not exactly as they seem. I give this book 5 of 5 stars. I think everyone who enjoys an action filled story with Christian attributes will love this book.
I received an advance copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
As all books by this author, this is fantastic. I highly recommend it to all readers.
