I enjoy Susan May Warren's writing. She knows how to dig deep into her characters and bring the setting to life. I have enjoyed everything she has written from the romantic suspense to the contemporary romance. She seems to have a magic touch when it comes to writing stories that reach her audiences. As for her newest edition to the Montana Rescue series, A Matter of Trust, I enjoyed the setting with the snow and enjoyed the rescue down the mountainside.
The writing is clear, crisp, and concise. Just the way a good story should be written. Warren does such a great job at bringing her audience into the setting. It is her greatest strength in my humble opinion. With a touch of snow and trials, Warren allowed me to feel the wind in my hair and see the sparkling snow as I traveled down the mountainside with Ella and Gage. This has been one of my favorite settings of Warren's novels.
As for the plot, the rescue of Ella's brother, Oliver, hinges on the ability for Ella to keep up with Gage. Ella is a brave woman who has put on the mask to appear worthy of her parents' legacy. Ella's transformation story is a great lesson to us all. On the other hand, Gage is a wounded man who is trying to hide from his past and his deep wounds. I adore men with long hair, so it could be why Gage seemed more swoon worthy for me than the previous heroes. The plot started out kind of slow moving, but then it picked up pace and kept moving alongside like an avalanche, taking down everything in its path.
The romance was the type of romance that started three years later and was burnt, but Warren allowed them to pick up where they left off and heal some bridges to hunt for the reality of love. If Ella and Gage didn't have the history, I would have said the romance was too rushed, but because of their shared history, it wasn't rushed.
The spiritual element becomes stronger the further I traveled in the novel, but nothing too preachy. It deepened the characters, making them more relatable. The story is predictable and the plot reads like most mountain rescue stories I have read, but there aren't too many of them, so Warren should be safe. I recommend A Matter of Trust to fans of Warren's previous' writing.
I received a complimentary copy of A Matter of Trust by Susan May Warren from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
Another great book by Ms. Warren. A Matter of Trust is very well written it has a great plot and characters. A great addition to the author's latest series.
There is something about Susan May Warren's writing that grabs you and drags you into the story. Not that I mind that one bit. Her writing is truly evocative. In A Matter of Trust, readers are taken on a wild, death-defying adventure through the snowy peaks of Montana. I could practically smell the fresh, crisp snow and feel the sharp snap of the freezing air. But don't worry, there is plenty of romance to keep you warm.
Gage left behind his life as a champion freestyle snowboarder after a tragic death and vicious lawsuit left him stripped of sponsors and determined to never take such risks again. Now he is a member of the PEAK Rescue team and the snow patrol unit, working to save lives. But then Ella Blair, the girl who he once upon a time thought might be the love of his life and who played a role in the lawsuit that saw him lose everything, renters his life. Together Ella and Gage face the dangers of untamed wilderness and the secrets and hurts of their past as they fight to rescue Ella's brother.
I have enjoyed all the books in this Montana Rescue series and A Matter of Trust, the third book was no different. It has a potent mix of suspense as the characters face the elements, and wonderful romance that reaches right into the hearts of the characters, exploring their pasts, fears, hurts and hopes. There is a nice bit of kissing, too.
I totally lost my heart to Gage. His regret and the way he blamed himself was heartbreaking. He longs to be someone who does the right thing, saves people, is a hero, but fears his mistakes outweigh any good he might achieve. Ella, too, has many regrets, most notably the one that cost her a future with Gage. I liked how Ella also had another layer of motivation that stemmed from her family history. The rekindling of their romance was wonderful. I also enjoyed the few chapters that went back to the time they first met, giving readers an insight into the dept of their relationship.
I particularly like how each of the books in this series continue the stories of multiple characters. Readers get to see the continuation of previous main characters, as well as on-going stories. A Matter of Trust, in addition to Ella and Gage's story, features the continuation of Jess' story. She too is an EMT. Readers learned in book two of the secret Jess is carrying and now we see how this is preventing her from truly connecting with Pete. A Matter Of Trust also introduces a new character, Ella's friend Brette who too has a fantastic story to share which I have no doubt will be continued in the next book, as will (finally) Ian and Sierra's story (yay!). Considering this continuity of characters and their stories that overlap books, I would recommend that readers read this series in order, although each book has its own main story arch. And, if the included teaser is anything to go by, the fourth book in this series is going to be epic.
A Matter of Trust is a fantastic addition to the Montana Rescue series, perfect for readers who enjoy plenty of high-stakes adventure with their romance and characters who grab your heart.
The publishers provided an advanced readers copy of this book for reviewing purposes. All opinions are my own.
Oh, my word. There is a reason Susan May Warren is one of my very favorite authors and this book is a great illustration of it. Real, hurting characters. Nail-biting adventure. Fast paced, non-stop action. Hot romance. And a strong faith message.
A MATTER OF TRUST has it all. Tension, adventure, action, romance, faith and it is combined in a novel I literally couldn't put down. Unless I had to. I have never been skiing, but even I felt the thrill, the fear, the adrenaline as they made dangerous jumps over cliffs, the sides of waterfalls, and more. I wondered if they would find Ollie alive --and then if they'd even survive.
If you have never read Susan May Warren's books, seriously, you need to. She is a must-read author for me, and has been since I discovered her very first romance, a novella, that launched her writing career.
A MATTER OF TRUST is the third book in the Montana Rescue series and it does stand alone, but fans will want to read every single one of them as they meet and fall in love with members of this tight rescue team.
I can't wait for the next book. Probably coming in winter 2018. I was provided a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I thoroughly enjoyed this action packed romance! This was my first book by Susan May Warren, but it won’t be my last. This book was packed with action, great characters, and a great message. The writing was great and I found myself wanting to keep reading even when I really needed to stop. Overall, it was a great introduction to Ms. Warren’s work.
This book took place in ski country in Montana where Gage Watson works for PEAK Rescue Team. Gage was a former champion backcountry snowboarder whose career was tragically cut short. He struggles to find peace with his new role, but he is fantastic at it. Ella Blair ends up on Gage’s mountain while chasing her brother Oliver (Ollie) and attempting to convince him to return to school. Ella and Gage have a complicated history that will not be easily overcome. When tragedy strikes again, will they be able to work together to change the outcome this time, or will history repeat itself? Will they be able to forgive each other and themselves to regain what was lost, or are they meant to part ways forever?
There was so much to like in this book. I fell in love with both of the lead characters almost instantly. I was rooting for them, not only for a relationship, but for each of them individually to find a way to move on with their lives after three years of living in the past. I definitely felt like Gage suffered the most, but I did feel for Ella. I also liked all the action. Picturing myself soaring down the mountain (which let’s be honest, would NEVER happen, lol), facing all the trouble they found, and working with the rescue team had me on the edge of my seat. I wanted to know how everything would turn out and truly felt scared for the characters and what they were facing. Action / adventure is not normally my favorite, but the characters were so real that I was completely drawn in. I also loved the support characters. As this was my first book in the series, I didn’t know any of their stories other than what I learned in this book, but I certainly wanted to know more! Ty and Brette were fantastic. I actually can’t decide who I’m more excited to read about, them or Pete and Jess. I can’t wait for both of them to have a book...They’re coming, right?? Honestly, there weren’t any side characters I didn’t like. I finished and immediately went on Amazon to check out the first two books.
I also liked the message included. Watching these characters learn to trust God again and believe in His love despite their mistakes was believable and a great reminder of His love. It was subtle and worked in the story perfectly. Ms. Warren had a way of working it in where it didn’t take over the story, but rather enhanced the story.
My only real complaint with the story is that I found the forgiveness a bit unbelievable. I get that they have gone through so much (and come out better for it in my opinion) that they are able to forgive and move on. However, I found myself thinking, “Yeah, not sure I would be able to get over that so easily.” Then again, maybe that says something about me. It’s not that I think they shouldn’t forgive and move on, I’m just not so sure the trust would follow so quickly for me. Since I was rooting for them all along I’m glad they did, I just found it a bit quick to be completely believable.
Overall, this is a great book with a great message. I definitely recommend checking it out. I’m looking forward to going back to catch up and reading the rest as they come.
Thank you, NetGalley and Revell, for offering a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed the story of Gage and Ella. I appreciated the spiritual depth to the characters and their struggle for redemption and forgiveness. Many of the skiing/snowboarding scenes of Ella's seemed unrealistic to me compared to the skill of the ex-pro, Gage. It was very good book but not fabulous thus, I gave it 4 stars.
negligence in the death of one of his fans. He finds satisfaction in his new life as a member of the PEAK Rescue team near Glacier National Park, but still has moments when he resents the life he lost, and those who stole it from him.
State senator and lawyer Ella Blair-- former friend and admirer of Gage's-- deeply regrets the role she played in prosecuting the civil suit against him... especially when she learns a damaging truth about the case. When her younger brother goes missing on one of the park's most dangerous areas, Ella knows Gage is the only one capable of bringing him home. As Ella and Gage battle snowstorms and injuries, will they also have the courage to tackle their own feelings and regrets and make it back down the mountain safely?
Susan May Warren doesn't disappoint in her third installment of her Montana Rescue series, A Matter of Trust. I might go so far as to say it's my personal favorite thus far! Warren developed Ella and Gage's characters in such subtle a way that the reader fully understands their individual choices, without the need to knock the reader over the head with a bunch of back-stories. Minus the one mention of Gage sporting a "man bun" (ewww), he was a worthy and believable romantic lead. I found Ella's personal journey of finding forgiveness and self-worth particularly poignant. While Ella and Gage's story itself stands alone, Warren's weaving of series-long plot lines throughout this newest addition would make it confusing for readers not familiar with the previous novels.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and give an honest review.
This is one of those books that stay with you after you finish it. Susan May is one of my go to authors that never disappoints. I can expect to be transported to another world. A Matter of Trust is great on so many levels. It is action packed with danger on the slopes at the mercy of weather, terrain and natural events, such as avalanches and deep snow drifts. There are different relational conflicts that make the characters so normal and developed. Her characters are so real that I can imagine them walking off the pages. I could see the beautiful scenery of the rugged mountain ranges and feel the cold of the snowy conditions.
Ella Blair and Gage Watson met three years ago and hit it off but a tragic event severed their relationship. When Ella's brother takes a break from college to spend time working on his snowboarding skills, Ella follows Oliver to Montana to try to talk him into going back to school. Once there, she found out that his goal is to traverse down a dangerous course in Glacier National Park.
Gage is a former champion snowboarder that lost his sponsorship after a tragic accident of a fan. Gage is now working as an EMT with the PEAK rescue team in Montana near Glacier. When Ella's brother takes off to snowboard down a ragged peak that Gage was famous for making a video going down, Ella begs Gage to help her brother. He agreed because he didn't want another fan's life to end tragically. Gage and Ella, who is an accomplished snowboarder herself, follow Oliver and his friend down the mountain to make sure they make it down safely. They encounter a snow storm that moves in, very cold temperatures, dangerous terrain and conditions that keep you on the edge of your seat. On the other hand, they also have some history to work through.
We see other members of the PEAK rescue team from other books in the series that are involved in the rescue efforts and other call outs with the storms. There are conflicts between some of those members and secrets that are held close.
Faith plays a big part in the lives of some of the characters especially as they are put in danger and just dealing with others. But the bigger part is recognizing that God loves us no matter what we do. We are saved by grace, not by anything that we do but because He loves us and has loved us before we ever knew Him. When in danger, peril, or dealing with matters of the heart, we must trust Him to help us through events that happen to us. We also need to see ourselves and others as God sees us. Forgiveness is important to heal relationships. Sometimes it means forgiving others and sometimes we need to forgive ourselves. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I only started getting into Susan May Warren books this year but I love them. This is the third book in the Montana Rescue series excluding the prequel and the first one I've read. Although I've since read the first one and looking forward to the second one. As someone reading the books out of order, I don't feel lost. Without being redundant or annoying the author is able to do quick catch-ups without losing the current story-line.
Gage and Ella have a past of love, betrayal and secrets. There is a lot of hurt and unforgiveness on both sides. When Ella's brother decides to do something dangerous it's up to Gage to go out to rescue him. Ella refuses to be left behind. They have to decide to trust each other to make it out safely or at least alive. That's a lot of time alone with unresolved feelings and issues.
Great story and great characters. The side stories are just as intriguing as the main one. They have me excited for the other books to come.
Take ride and cut through some sweet powder of Susan May Warren's latest instalment of her Montana Rescue series.
Gage is working in serch and rescue after his pro snowboard career ended in a lawsuit.
Ella is a sister out to stop her brother from risking his life, and comes face to face with the man whose career she ended.
Okay, let me say that there was a TON of things going on in this book. And I highly recomend reading this series in order.
Warren is well known for her double storylines but this one could almost be considered a triple!
Ever since the first book Sierra and Ian have been left hanging. The second one left me dying to find out how Pete and Jess will turn out. Then after this one.......oh boy. The addition of Ty, now has me chomping at the bit for the next one. I don't want to give away too much. I really don't, but I need some resolution!
With my complaints aside this was a very well woven story. I felt if I was experiencing the snow drifts myself (and I have never skied in my life). She really brought it to life!
I like how Warren uses broken characters to illustrate the timless truth that we must Trust God.
I received a ARC from Netgalley for my opinion.
How can a book series get any better, the characters dig deeper in your heart and make you want more like a bad addiction? I seriously don't know how this author does it!
Heart-pounding adrenaline ride from the first mention of snowboarding down the mountain. You can literally feel the spray of snow in your face, the biting cold down your neck & your stomach dropping after each jump. Gage is definitely in his element! I could not wait to meet him in this book and I was not disappointed. Flawed, hurting, and riddled with guilt, he leapt off the pages as someone I connected with. Trying to make up for a past by becoming part of the PEAK team and burying the man he once was. Until he meets up with the lawyer who prosecuted him years ago after he fell in love with her. These two definitely clash! With a common mission to save her brother Ollie from making the same mistake he did, they must learn to work together.
I enjoyed catching up with the other members of the PEAK team and their unbreakable bonds. There are many layers to this as the story progresses. I also love the strong faith theme and reminders that in spite of our past mistakes, God doesn't stop loving us.
If you love stories full of depth, flawed characters you can connect with, reminder of God's love, and romance rising out of the ashes of the past, then you'll want to pick up this one! I highly recommend reading previous books to get the full effect of this series. Lastly, like a good reader friend of mine says “I”ll be waiting on tenterhooks until the next installment”!
* I received a copy through Netgalley and wasn't required to leave a review. All opinions are strictly my own*
TOP NOTCH SUSPENSE!!
A Matter of Trust (Montana Rescue Book #3) joins the members of the PEAK Rescue Team during another suspenseful & intense rescue attempt. An added complication is a heart stopping rescue of another type - that of forgiveness & grace. While the PEAK Team Members are as close as a family, several of them are carefully guarding deep secrets that could threaten them as individuals and the Team as a whole if they are revealed in the wrong manner. Each Team Member is learning to trust God more and to trust their Team. Action packed from beginning to end! I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and NetGalley but this opinion is strictly my own and without Influence.
This is another book of the Montana Rescue series that has intrigue and romance woven together at just the right blend. Having read Susan's other books in the series it was great at getting to know Gage better.
Action packed suspense and excitement that kept me on the edge of my seat. The descriptions of the surroundings and the characters are vivid. I could almost feel the snow falling and hear the sounds of the snowboards and skis. Be prepared for twists and turns on every page. I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and this is my personal honest opinion.
I tried so very hard to slowly savor each word, strolling through the pages, and pausing to reflect after each chapter. Instead, I raced through A Matter of Trust at breakneck speed, heart racing as the pages flew. Once again, Susan May Warren has crafted a story rich with detail and nuance. Don't be surprised to feel a brush of icy powder as you navigate the turns, dips, and drop offs that fill A Matter of Trust!
