Such a cute little book! Ellie the wiener dog loves being praised, of course. But the temptation to do wrong is sometimes overwhelming. This book has gorgeous and engaging illustrations, full of color and life. Children will love it, as will their parents and grandparents.

This was an enjoyable book to read with my children. The illustrations are very eye-catching. Rhythmically, it's easy for children to follow along. As a parent of children who loves dogs, this book was a welcome addition to our library!
Cute. Bought it for the library along with the next one in the series.
Awesome story. Can’t wait to read more from this author!!!
Ellie is a wiener dog learning the life lessons that preschoolers generally need to know. The artwork is colorful and attention grabbing for youngsters, and the words are easy for them to grasp. In this book, Ellie has to resist temptation to hear that she's a good dog. She struggles to do what is expected of her and to get over her fears and finds that it isn't as difficult as she thought it would be. This is great for preschoolers, who can absorb the message of the books and hopefully learn from them, too.
Ellie fights so many temptations. She wants to be a good girl, but oh it can be so hard. So many things are distractions and smell so good! I enjoyed Ellie's story of choosing to be good. Lovely children's book.
My copy came from Net Galley. My thoughts and opinions are my own. This review is left of my own free volition.
Love the fun, rhyming text, bright, colorful illustrations and a story where kids will see themselves and how to handle the temptations to do their own thing!
Very cute rhyming story with illustrations kids will love! Kids will identify with Ellie and the struggle in "being good".
Great book for reading to all children, but especially those that have a little trouble "being good".
I really enjoyed reading this with my granddaughter. It helped her to see that it is not always
Apologies, but it is not possible for me to give you my opinion because the book you provided for the review is defective.
I'm very sorry for the inconvenience, I imagine the book is very worthwhile, based on other books in its collection.
Dachshund Ellie with her big brown eyes and wiggly body is trying to be good. In a scene reminiscent of vintage Looney Tunes characters, she has her good and bad selves both trying to influence her. Both halves of her conscience appear in dream bubbles, the naughty side appears among flames and tugs on Ellie's ear to get her attention with a wicked grin. In contrast, the good side is floating among clouds and barking to try and call Ellie away from the bad influence. Ellie says she's only a hound and thinks with her nose. As much as she longs for those words, "What a good dog!" it is hard to resist with "a freshly made sandwich calling." The illustration turns the letters of the word "calling" into slices of bread, ham, lettuce, and mustard, emphasizing the allure of that sandwich. When her "mind starts to spin," we see Ellie's eyes filled with spirals and her ears floating around her head in a psychedelic swirl. Will she be able to fight her way through the haze of fresh ham and earn a treat for being a good girl?
Young readers will find Ellie adorable with her expressive face and dramatic description of how her hound's nose leads her into temptation. It is easy to identify with her and the urge to give in when surrounded by tempting items. When she says that earning praise makes her heart grin, we can actually see a pale purple heart on her chest with a small smile on it. And when she imagines grabbing the sandwich and running off with it, her thought bubble shows an image of herself with the sandwich clasped in her front paws and her back legs running so fast they are a blur. This is a story sure to entertain adults as they help youngsters read and enjoy it.
Perfect for parents and teachers of young children who are working on learning right from wrong and choosing to do what they know is right. I read an e-book provided by the publisher through NetGalley.
Another cute book from K.J. Hale. Great story with colorful illustrations. A good lesson for kids to learn. Ellie wants to be good, but there is so many things that can get her into trouble.

Ellie is the cutest little wiener dog! She's illustrated in bright colors, her antics are perfectly dog-like, and this story is cute. There's a lesson in the story but it's put across gently.
Open Door Press and Net Galley shared an ebook of this story with me. It has been published so can grab a copy now.
Ellie loves being told she's a good dog. Her reactions will make you laugh. She can't help sniffing all the good smells in the house, though. And when she gets a noseful of ham smells, and a sandwich lying on the table, can she resist?
She almost gives into temptation but, when she doesn't, she gets a reward. That's how life ought to be for people, too.
Fun read with kids. Good illistrations. Learning is fun. Would recommend this book.
My daughter Kait enjoyed this and I pointed out how much our dog Watson likes to eat her leftovers (and sometimes before he's invited to.) It's nice when she can make personal connections with books. Cute illustrations.
This book is super cute! The drawings are adorable and I just love little wienerdogs! There aren't many words in this book, so it's mostly illustrations, but still cute nonetheless! I will definitely be sharing this book with my nieces and nephews!
Cute Children's book! Great illustrations and fun rhyme. Ellie is a little dog who just loves being praised for doing and being good but when temptation appears what will she do?
Definitely a fun book for kids of all ages, especially dog lovers! My family and I had fun reading and smiling and Ellie's trying hard to be good! We have had several dogs over the years and they are always trying to sneak something or other and I love when they get caught in the act...the head hung in shame trying to hide what they've done. Or after they've committed the act(usually stealing bread from the kitchen) they run and hide and can't be found because they didn't do it. LOL. Gotta love these silly pups! They try so hard to follow the rules but when something is so tempting, man oh man is it hard to be good!
I received a copy from the publisher, Greenleaf Book Group, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

I received an electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Yet another adorable book. This one really connected for me, seeing that I have a young doggie of my own. The girls loved it too! Ellie is just trying so hard to be good, but it isn't easy when there is temptation, right where you can reach. Ellie prevails and is rewarded for being good. This is a lesson that is easily applied to children. With the beautiful illustrations and lovable canine main character, this one is one I wouldn't mind adding to our library. Also planning to keep an eye out for future books, since this one is titled lesson one!
