This was a challenging read. Had to take some time with self to come up with a reasonable review...
This was my first book to Elle Casey.
When I read the blurb, I immediately downloaded the book without any hesitation.
I really tried to like Wrong Turn, Right Direction, but we just didn't click together and I couldn't for the life of me connect with the characters or the story.
This book really wasn't a hit for me I didnt really feel the chemistry between the two characters.. The story was well written and kept my attention though.. Not truly sure id want to keep reading stories from this author again though... Just not my cuppa tea
3.5 stars.
ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
My first book by this author and Wrong Turn, Right Direction is book four in The Bourbon Street Boys series by Elle Casey.
Reading it was a little bit of a mixed bag for me. Let me explain. I did love the main characters and their story but I think jumping in at book four without prior knowledge of other characters from the series or previous plots hindered my enjoyment of the book slightly as I felt that I was missing out on other characters connections to each other and this story.
Obviously the easy solution here is to read the first three books in this series and let me say that I was sufficiently impressed with Ms Casey's writing style for that to happen.
Witty, sassy, funny, with a hint of mystery and intrigue.
Personally, I was already really skeptical when the story started because the symptoms Mika was describing sounded incredibly like a pregnant women, but I gave her the benefit of doubt because what woman doesn't realize there's been a life growing inside of her for the past nine months??? But then she started having the baby and how does one not notice that?!? It was a little scary, a little crazy and pretty damn out there. The story continues and while the overall plot line is ok, I don't think it really falls into the category of my favorite books. Just isn't my taste, but I'm sure it's someone's cup of tea.
I've been a big fan of this series but sadly this book didn't work for me. I had a hard time connecting to either character, didn't feel their connection and the ending was lackluster and seemed rushed. I was expecting more drama in this given the circumstances but it didn't happen. It was nice to catch up with the other couples from the previous books.
I really enjoyed this book, the Bourbon Street Boys get better with each book. Thibault and Tamika have a quick fall and a LOT of stress (the Russian Mob looking for you will do that.) They have an unforgettable first meeting and spend pretty much the whole book on the run. Tamika trusts absolutely no one but she grows to trust Thibault and eventually his team too. Thibault, formerly happy and content bachelor learns the hard way just how wrong he was. I loved watching these two wounded souls come together to find some healing. This is the last of the original Bourbon Street Boys to fall in love but it looks like they’re making some new hires so I’m hoping there will be more books soon to follow. While this book could be read as a stand alone I would highly recommend reading the whole series as the relationships are so interconnected.I received an arc of this book from the publisher through net galley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the 4th book in the series. I have read books 2 and 3. They were okay reads. I was really hoping this book would be better. It wasn’t. It was much worse than the previous two.
When the story starts, it feels like you have been dropped into the middle of the book not the beginning. Then the female lead, Tamika, is in labor and doesn’t realize she’s even pregnant. She’s been chewing Tums like they are candy for indigestion. Her swollen stomach does the wave and she still doesn’t recognize it for what it is, and she’s driving! She meets Thibault when she runs into him with her car during a contraction and injures him. They end up at the hospital, her with a newborn and him with the injuries from the car. Thibault tries to go alpha and take over.
It was all just so ridiculous, I couldn’t force myself to continue. I put it down and tried picking it back up several times. I couldn’t connect with the characters at all nor did I feel any pull between these two. This was a DNF for me. I will not be requesting any more from this author.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC provided by NetGalley.
3.5 Stars!
This is the fourth book in the series and can be read as a standalone. All books in this series are based around all the characters in the Bourbon Street Security firm. You do see characters in previous books come back in the new ones so some readers may want to start with book one to get to know everyone.
Mika is in a bad way. She finds her self in a desperate situation and working for the Russian mafia. She wants out and decides to take the risk of being an informant for the police. Unfortunately, her run in with Thibault has derailed her plans and now she's on the run.
Ok so I'm being purposely vague on the plot of this book because I loved how this author had these two meet and I want you to experience it for yourself. It was highly entertaining!
This is a pretty fun series if you like suspense with your romance. Since it is based off all the guys in the security firm, we get to see them fall hard and fast for the women who seem to have trouble following them around.
I do feel this story is more heavy on the suspense than on the romance and that's why it wasn't my overall favorite in the series, but still a very enjoyable read. ARC provided by Netgalley.
Another good book to add the The Bourbon Street Boys. The first book is still, and always will be my favourite.
I have been intrigued about Thibault throughout the entire series, so obviously very happy he has his own book and ending. This was quick to read, easy and enjoyable. It did get a bit lacklustre for me in the middle and I did find myself waiting for something to happen. All a bit too much back and forth about trusting each other between Thibault and Mika, and he was pushing her to reveal things she wasn't ready for, yet she wanted him to trust her. I don't know, it just irritated me a little!
Having said all of that it did really pick up towards the end and there was a great little twist. I really like how the characters connected in the end and Mika really grew on me. Lots of funny moments as you would expect from Elle Casey and the Bourbon Street crew!! May and Jenny are as funny as ever, with plenty from them, Toni and the other 'boys'.
I would have liked a bit more of the book to be set at the Bourbon Street Warehouse. A lot of time has been spent there in the previous books and I feel like it is the hub of the whole series - sitting around the table, sharing Ozzie's food, having team meetings and discussing actions to be taken... there was very little of that in this story and I definitely missed it!
Overall a quick, fun, easy read which is a good way to spend a few hours. If you've read the rest of the series, then this one is definitely worth picking up.
What a wild book! It was one of the best books in this series! I loved this story it was so well written and just when I thought everything and everyone had it all figured out BAM you don't see this coming. I loved this series and all the characters. I want to go to a pizza party with this crew and their families!
Eh. This book was okay. Entertaining, and Thibault was hot. Sadly, I didn't connect with Mika at all, and I didn't feel much in the way of tension or romance.
The premise of the story is established very quickly, but then not much happens until the last third of the book. The pace seemed a bit off and there's constantly this threat looming over the heroine which doesn't ever come to a head.
And, this *really bugged me - I would also like to point out that 4 weeks really isn't enough time to recover from childbirth in order to resume sexual relations. Especially given the circumstances of Baby Tee's delivery. I reckon there'd be some gnarly tears still healing.
I've enjoyed all The Bourbon Street Boys books and this one is no exception. This is Thibault's story and I really liked it. I thought Mika and Thibault worked well together although Mika could be a bit frustrating with continuous refusal for help. I did love her snarky sarcasm.
Fate definitely intervened when Tamika "Mika" Cleary runs into (literally) Thibault Delacroix. Working for a Russian crime boss is never a good idea, being threatened by said boss is life threatening. Thankfully she met Thibaut and although she doesn't want to accept his help she as no other options.
A fun read and one I highly recommend.
This is the fourth book in The Bourbon Street Boys series, I have read all the book of that series though I did not remember them all that well before reading this one.
All the book from this series can be read at standalones.
This one is the story of Mika and Thibault. Mika works for bigass criminal, Pavel, who's part of the Bratva, she does his bookkeeping.
Except, Mika is also a CI and when she drives to see the detective in charge of the case, she has violent stomach pains and distracted, takes a wrong turn and taps Thibault with her car.
Thibault sees what she couldn’t figure out; Mika is in labor.
After delivering her baby in a nail shop, Thibault and his Superman complex starts feeling responsible for Mika and her son. The three of them end up having to lay low so that Pavel cannot find them.
I truly enjoyed this series. The characters were interesting, as were their stories. Their connection felt genuine and I could truly feel what Mika did. She was so fierce and untrusting, I could relate. The baby seemed cute as hell and I wanted to protect him with my life. Thibault was pretty great too, loyal, loving and all around adorable.
The intrigue, thriller part was just as interesting as the romantic part and kept me on my toes the whole time.
I read this pretty fast and had a really good time.
The best book in the series in my opinion.
I was actually rather surprised by this book! I've not been impressed with more recent installments of this series, but this one was actually rather entertaining! It started out with a bang, and while it was supposed to be fraught with tension, I actually found myself focusing on the relationship being built.
Mika and Thibault had an interesting dynamic being created. I liked how he was willing to sacrifice most of what made up his life for Mika. I also liked how strong Mika was as a heroine, especially with everything that was thrown at her.
The "suspense" plot was practically non-existent, and what was there fell very flat for me, especially the ending. I really felt that there was no resolution to the plot thread. This book also hinted at new members of the team, but nothing ever came of that either, so the reader is left wondering if this is the end of the series.
If this book is the end of the series, it's not that great of an ending! We don't find out until late in the book that 2-3 years have passed from the events of the previous installment, and that information is put in so haphazardly that it's easily overlooked. I'm also not entirely sure where things could go from here.
It was an entertaining read, but left me with more questions than actual answers.
I really liked and enjoyed this book. Really a great story that had me hooked right away with the crazy fun beginning. Great characters with great chemistry. Cant wait to read more.
Elle Casey has done it. 10 stars! Loved, loved, loved the story and writing!
Great book. This is a well written book with a good plot. I loved the characters and the author's style of writing.
Love that there is a 4th book in this series. I have been hooked from book 1. Love it
This book is the fourth book in Ms Casey’s series titled, The Bourbon Street Boys. I loved books one and two and found book three just OK. Well, sadly, this one was also just ok.
The storyline centers around Mika, a young woman that is the bookkeeping person for a man part of the Russian mafia. She has been abused and is in the works of becoming a confidential informant for the New Orleans PD. While on the road, she feels ill and hits Thibault, one of the men that works at Bourbon St Boys security company. She hurts him and he realizes she is in labor. Mind you , she did not know she was pregnant !
From then on, she is trying to stay away from the Russian and Thibault is determined to protect her.
I have to say , though I liked Thibault, I did not feel connected to Mika.
The middle of the story dragged and I just couldn’t wait for it to finish.
Ms Casey is a very talented author, and I know she can do better than this.
I will still be a fan but I am not sure I would recommend this book.
I was gifted this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Seriously, I love this series. There are so many funny moments even with the usual serious storylines. I love the men and the strong women and how they all work together as a family to solve the mysteries and protect their own. I am sad to see it end.
