this was an excellent book. I have read many by this author and they never fail to disappoint at all.

An excellent stand-alone crime/thriller from the author of the acclaimed, long-running Temperance Brennan series.

Sunday Night (yes, that's her name) is a smart, tough and talented private investigator, who channels her own dark past into her career, providing fuel to an incredible dedication and desire for justice to triumph. TWO NIGHTS follows a Night as she investigates a cold case, at the urging of her foster father. What follows is a wide-ranging investigation as Night tries to find out what lies behind the bombing of a Jewish school in Chicago.

Well-written, well-paced, and gripping. TWO NIGHTS is classic Reichs, but with enough of a difference to please new and old fans alike. Recommended.

Kathy Reichs is an amazing author. Once again she has written a book full of mystery, suspense and edge of your seat action.

This book moves along at an amazing pace, which keeps you comfortably reading from the moment that you start reading. The story will grab you and not let go until you finish the last page and the characters, WOW, they are always amazing in a Kathy Reichs book. You want to know who did it, but at the same time you can not help but fall in love with them.

This book and all of Kthy Reichs books need to be read. There is no doubt about it.

Where to start? I have always loved reading Kathy Reichs' Temerpance Brennan series and the spinoff TV series Bones, that she helped with. But I think I have a new fave Reichs character! Sunday Night is sassy, smart and deadly.

Not only are we introduced to a new character, but a different style of writing. It's more of a detective/private investigator style story line in lieu of a forensic drama. I enjoyed it a lot. And the witty banter of the characters was top notch. Sunday's attitude is ramped up and we see how all her past military and police experience make her a perfect choice for this job. Her mission: to find a missing girl and take out those responsible for the deaths of her family members.

Sunday has attitude for days, but much of it comes from all of the psychological trauma from her past, that is slowly revealed as the story unfolds. Not only do we follow Sunday and her brother, Gus, on the mission, but we unravel all the baggage that makes Sunday, Sunday. She lives alone on a small island, she keeps herself at arms distance to almost everyone except her brother, her "foster" father and a squirrel. There is so much to her character - she's very complex and I loved uncovering the details of her past, so that I could understand her hard exterior and sassy attitude.

Now to the plot... a bombing and a missing girl, ties to a homegrown terrorist cell, meeting Sunday's twin brother, Gus, and lots of action. Oh and the Kentucky Derby?!? Quite the mix and quite fast paced.

I honestly would love to see more books featuring this character, so I'm hoping that Ms. Reichs will write more featuring Sunnie.

Have you read Two Nights or any of the Temperance Brennan series? Which book is your favourite? Do you prefer Sunday or Temperance?

Two Nights by Kathy Reichs
Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Thanks to NetGaley and publisher Simon & Schuster for the ebook ARC of Two Nights by Kathy Reichs in exchange for an honest review.

Meet Sunday Night, a woman with physical and psychological scars, and a killer instinct…

Sunnie has spent years running from her past, burying secrets and building a life in which she needs no one and feels nothing. But a girl has gone missing, lost in the chaos of a bomb explosion, and the family needs Sunnie’s help.

Is the girl dead? Did someone take her? If she is out there, why doesn’t she want to be found? It is time for Sunnie to face her own demons because they might just lead her to the truth about what really happened all those years ago.

I give this book a rating of 2 stars. I didn’t end up finish reading it. I read about 30% of the way through. I tried because I have heard so many good things about Kathy Reichs. The book itself just wasn’t for me. I found it boring and hard to stay focused and I just couldn’t get into the book. I am not a fan of the writing style. I would definately give Kathy Reichs another try though as many people really love her writing.

I love Kathy Reichs "Temperance Brennan" series. "Two Nights" is a standalone novel that I found to be completely different from her forensic mysteries.

Ex-Cop Sunday Night is an aggressive, rough around the edges, scarred heroine. A wealthy woman hires Sunday to look for her teenage granddaughter who she believes was kidnapped by a cult. As things progress quickly Sunday enlists the help of her twin brother, Gus.

I thoroughly enjoyed the quick witted dialogue and back and forth banter between the characters, notably Sunday and Gus.

A fast-paced, flowing mystery!

Thank you to NetGalley, Kathy Reichs and Simon and Schuster for an arc of this novel in exchange for my review.

I wanted to like this one more because I'm a big fan of Kathy Reichs, but it wasn't for me. I couldn't follow the story and never felt like I connected to the main character. I would try the next one though.

Sunday Night, yes that's her name, is a former soldier and police officer with a mysterious childhood. Retired after being injured on the job, Sunnie, lives alone as a recluse on a small island that no one visits except a couple exceptions her friend Beau and her "twin" brother Gus. When asked to find a young girl that has been kidnapped after her mother and brother are killed in a so called terrorist bombing at a mosque, Sunnie finds herself driven to find her at any cost.
This book is so different from Kathy Reich's usual forensic mysteries. I was looking forward to reading it but was a little disappointed. I did not really follow the story and found it confusing. I did like the characters so hopefully if she writes another Night book it will be much better.

Two Nights features a tough, damaged, and courageous heroine named Sunday Night. A fantastic mystery for fans of Jonathan Kellerman. Kathy Reichs' writing is so thought-provoking, even the title has more meaning than just the obvious. A great stand-alone story about home-grown terrorism, and real-life almost happy endings. A fantastic book.

This review is from: Two Nights: A Novel (Hardcover)
Reading the other reviews, this book is one of these love it or hate it things. Well, I really loved it, couldn't put it down. Great writing, lots of action, frustration, and flashbacks. Flawed characters or survivors of psychologically terrorizing circumstances, or both? I hope we readers will never know what WE would do in these circumstances! I am leaving the plot summary to other reviewers, as there are now plenty. Just saying, let's have more from these protagonists, and let's have much more from Kathy Reichs!

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a time-limited e-ARC; the opinions are my own.

Sunday Night – aka Sunnie – is a six-foot-tall, red head who was rescued from a traumatic childhood along with her twin brother Gus and raised by Perry Beaumont, a police officer with the Charleston S. Carolina police force. She had eventually joined first the military and then the police force herself but an injury had ended her career. She has moved to a secluded island to recover not only physically but psychically.

However, when the grandmother of a girl kidnapped after the bombing of a Jewish school offers a reward for finding the people responsible, Beaumont suggests that Sunnie take the job. He suspects that her childhood may give her special insight into the case.

Two Nights by author Kathy Reichs is a huge departure from her Temperance Brennan novels. This is a much faster, darker, less cerebral novel fueled more by Sunnie’s seemingly unquenchable rage, her kinetic energy, and her identification with the victim than by any knowledge of forensics. Throughout the novel, her personality is contrasted with her brother’s calmer, more quiet personality – he is her polar opposite in seemingly almost every way including in his looks. Unfortunately, for me, this had the effect of making the pair seem somewhat one-dimensional, like separate halves of the same character. This was mitigated at least in part as we learn more about their past which is slowly revealed throughout the novel and which helps explain much of why each has taken on the persona they wear.

I will also admit I found some of the action a bit over the top and requiring a much higher suspension of disbelief than the Temperance Brennan novels. Still, the non-stop action kept me reading long into the night. Despite my criticisms, if I had to describe this book in one word, it would have to be unputdownable. Two Nights is a standalone but I look forward to more stories about Sunnie and Gus in the future.

Well done Ms Reichs! Very compelling story, well told, just what I like.

Very good story (and the story within the story). Fast paced, timely and well structured. The characters have potential and room for backstory.

I've read one of Reichs books with Temperence Brennan and I can't say I was wholly impressed. Her style is 'meh' to me. I hoped this book as a stand alone and with a new character would wow me.

Can't say it did. The story is okay, the plot is timely. I just didn't gel with the main character Sunday Night. I just couldn't get behind the character. Her injuries and the fact she kept going going going felt unrealistic.

I will say how the story was structured with the flashbacks was cleverly done. I totally thought I was getting scenes dealing with the missing girl. Never clued into their real purpose until the end.

If you like easy to read, police procedurals (kinda) with mysteries woven in you'll probably like it

this is a 4.5 star rating

This book blew me away , I have heard about here other series and I was excited to sit down and read this book.  I started reading and couldn't put it down , the author sucked me into the story after the third page.  Let me introduce you to Sunday Night is a woman who is battling her own demons and is in semi retirement on Goat island . Where she is living as a recluse , trying to rebuild her life. Until the day a young girl goes missing and she is called back into action with her brother Gus . They are on the way to finding the girl and on the way she battles her own demons and by battling those long lost demons she may be on the road to finding the girl and putting her past behind her . Will she survive and will she find the girl alive .
What I love about this author's characters is that they are flawed but they are also redeemable . Case in point Sunday has some very bad demons that she is trying to bury and keep buried . She is trying so hard but you can see her struggling and you want her to get through it all and come out the other side . As she starts to go through her demons when she is out trying to find the girl . You see a side of her that can be kind of scary at times . She is like a ticking time bomb , but she does rein it in and get control. By the end of the book you see a much calmer and happier Sunday . The grandmother of the missing girl is rich and very manipulative and I was like wow grandma is kind of bad ass, in the way she twists everyone . The characters are all very well written and very complex, there is no real black and white its all shades of grey with these characters. But when the bad guys do show up you know they are bad and boy can the author write some bad characters as well as the good guys .
The author is a definite go to for books that will make you think as you read them . The twists and turns are unbelievable . One min you are thinking no you can't go there and bam she does . One min you are thinking it is one person and then you get taken down another direction. This is a fast paced story with lots of action that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time . The new cast of characters are great and you will cheer for them and maybe shed a tear or two . She is one of the best in her genre of writing . Her books are suspenseful and fast paced , clever and well written mysteries . So if you want a book that will take you on a roller coaster ride that you will keep you on your toes and reading well into the night . This is the book for you and definite addition to your summer reading list

First, a large thank you to NetGalley, Kathy Reichs, and Simon & Schuster Canada for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide an unbiased review.
Two Nights by Kathy Reichs is a long way removed from her Temperance Brennan novels. Sunday Night (aka Sunnie) has a traumatic and troubled past. She is ex-military and an ex-cop living a solitary life on an island off the coast of South Carolina until one day her foster father encourages her to take a cold case looking for a missing granddaughter of an wealthy, eccentric older woman named Opaline Drucker, whose daughter and grandson are killing in a “terrorism” bombing where her granddaughter went missing. The case brings up troubled memories for Sunnie as she looks for the granddaughter.
Sunnie is a strong and interesting character. I enjoyed her wit and sarcasm. I found the novel to start off slow, though it picked up quickly and kept me interested throughough the novel. The story has a few twists and turns. A good plot with fast scenes, an easy read and a greaty mystery. It is a great reminder that “terrorism” can and is home grown in our own country. I will be recommending it to my mystery lover friends.
I hope Ms. Reichs continues the Sunnie Night series.

Sunday (Sunnie) Night is an ex-marine, ex-cop who is living on Goat Island as a recluse. You quickly learn that she has a lot of baggage that has scarred her emotionally. When her friend, Beau, visits her on the island, he tells her he has a job for her. Opaline Drucker wants to hire her to find her granddaughter. At first Sunnie wants to turn it down but figures she will go and hear her out before making her final decision. The story she hears convinces Sunnie to take the job. With all expenses covered and a possible payout of 140,000.00, she sets her plan in motion. She sets off solo, but picks up help along the way as her life becomes endangered. Will she find Stella? Is she still alive? Who is trying to kill Sunnie?

I don't want to give the plot away, but suffice it to say that it keeps you turning the pages. Kathy Reichs is an excellent writer whether she is penning a book in her Tempe Brennan series, or this standalone thriller. The one thing I found was that the main character was rather unlikable. She was argumentative, rude, quick to temper and put herself and others in danger. As her story unfolds, I started to see why she was that way and she started to grow on me. There are two narrators in the story, Sunnie and an adolescent girl. The story comes together very nicely in the end. I enjoyed this book, but not as much as many of her other ones. A good book for those who like thrillers and suspense.

Princess Fuzzypants here:
I have enjoyed Kathy Reichs both her books and the tv show Bones. She writes a good mystery and knows her technical details. While this is a departure for her, it is as good as her other work, if not better.
Sunnie NIght is a fascinating quirky character. She is tough and flawed and oh so capable. Her bizarre and chaotic childhood has scarred her in way that makes her the ideal person to track down the killers of a rich old lady's daughter and grandson. Her granddaughter disappeared at the same time so she is tasked with rescuing her if she is still alive. Because of her background, she is ultra-determined to find justice for the dead victims.
She enlists her twin brother to help her and the two of them meet some shady and scary folks. The ones responsible are an anti-Moslem cult that figures collateral damage is acceptable. Sunnie is able to peel back the mystery and there is a big reveal at the end. Along the way, there is a lot of excitement, violence and suspense. The reader is swept along turning pages.
I suspect we may see more of Sunnie and her brother Gus. I for one would be up for it.
I give five purrs and two paws up.

Fast-paced, mysterious, and entertaining!

This is a suspenseful thriller that reminds us that terrorism can often be homegrown and emphasizes just how dangerous anger, hatred, and religious fanaticism can truly be.

The writing is clear and precise. The main character, Sunday Night, is tough, intelligent, and determined, and the supporting characters are an intriguing mix of ruthless, persistent zealots, and a charming, dependable brother.

I have to say that die-hard fans of the Temperance Brennan series may be a little disappointed in this latest outing by Reichs which doesn't have the scientific jargon and forensic analysis we typically associate with her novels, but there's no question that Reichs is a great writer and if you read this new novel with an open mind you will recognize her trademark strong, flawed, female protagonist and straightforward style of writing that could definitely lead to another bestselling series for her.

Two Nights by Kathy Reichs is a stand-alone book by Kathy Reichs that just came out today.

I have enjoyed Kathy Reichs' Temperance Brennan series so when I heard about Two Nights I couldn't wait to get my hands on the book.

This book is full of twist and turns that kept me reading up until the end. I did find the writing style a little different from the Temperance Brennan series but I still enjoyed this book.

I give this 4 out of 5.
