I didn't have any big expectations with this book, so it came as a nice surprise in turning out to be a very entertaining story.
Valentine French doesn't have much luck with men, so she decides to test the dating scenery in Alaska and is going to write about her experiences on her blog.
Although the book has quite a lot of clishees I found it very entertaining and it was fun to follow Valentine, a real New Yorker high-society,, in the Alaskan wilderness.
The story has lots of humour and a very entertaining story with lovable characters.
I really liked how the love story developed, it wasn't too rushed but with a capturing chemistry between Valentine and Logan. The romance was really sweet but also very hot. Lots of nice and sizzling scenes between the protagonists.
The setting in Alaska is also really nice and the author describes the surroundings very nicely.
I adore this book, I love that the setting isn't some fancy city like L.A. Its rough and rugged and such a good book. I love both characters. Val had a tough like but grew into an amazing strong heroine. Logan is just a great guy. I enjoyed reading there story it was cute, sweet and sexy. I can't wait to read more from this author.
Sawyer Bennett found my gateway drug in her latest release Sex In The Sticks; a fish out of water story set in Alaska reminiscent of the short lived television show Men In Trees (a victim of the ’07-’08 writer’s strike) and Northern Exposure which to this day remains one of my all time favorite television shows (despite the fact it should have ended sooner), but with a twist because even though the heroine was so far out of her element, she embraced the lifestyle, she found a way to blend in, she made good, real, true friends and most of all she fell in love when she had no intentions of doing so. Sex In The Sticks was crazy, fun, outrageous, sexy, but most of all it had heart and I loved every minute of this book.
Writing a dating and sexy advice blog isn’t something Valentine French set out to do, but she enjoys it and being wealthy and not having to work allows her to enjoy life, but the thing is Val or Valley as her friends call her isn’t happy. Her family is snooty and pretentious and while she fully admits to loving the finer things in live and shopping is a major life choice for her, she’s bored with the men she meets and those she beds, so with a little help from her cousin Jeremy she heads to East Merritt, Alaska with the hopes of dating and enjoying the men of Alaska and writing about them in her blog Valentine’s Couch. What she doesn’t expect is to meet Logan Burke, East Merritt’s police chief and the man who will shake up her world entirely.
In Ketchikan to pick up some supplies Logan Burke can’t help but offer to help the alluring woman and give her a ride to East Merritt. He immediately pegs her as a city girl and while he questions her reason for coming to Alaska he can’t help but notice she is nice to look at and will be a hot commodity in his little town. Watching Valentine turn all the men on their ear makes for great entertainment, but if Logan was being honest it also grates a bit on his nerves. The more time he spends with her the more he realizes he really likes her.
I loved almost every little thing about this book and the one thing I didn’t love; I pushed aside because that’s how much I enjoyed reading this book. Valentine and Logan form a friendship of sorts and he becomes her confidant and even a bit protective. He looks out for her, helps her several times and even saves her when she accidentally gets lost in the woods, the attraction is there from the start and when things heat up…let me just say they may be in Alaska but nobody is going to be cold with these two around cause they are smokin’ hot. Logan appreciated Valentine’s ability to make friends and her willingness to not be afraid to try new experiences that were way out of her comfort zone while Valentine loved Logan’s protective streak, his dedication to the town and its residents, and his kind and gentle heart. My one complaint, Logan was quick to judge and he did this a few times and honestly, there was nothing in his background to explain that behavior so while I was a bit disappointed in the way he reacted at times, overall he was a great guy and he was willing to take responsibility and make amends so I let it go.
From the vivacious and fun characters, to the unique storyline, to the wild and rugged Alaskan experiences, Sex In The Sticks was a sexy and fun romance that was impossible to put down.
This was a decent story and I somewhat enjoyed both the hero and the heroine, Valentine and Logan. However, nothing really stood out making it a great book.
If I thought going to Alaska to find myself a real man would yield real results, well, where do I sign up?! Tired of the NY scene--not to mention the men--Val finds herself venturing to the wilds of Alaska.
And really, is there a better name for this sexy, fun, flirty, hot book than Sex in the Sticks?
No. There is not.
Because they're in freaking Alaska and this is a fun book!
Val and Logan make for an entertaining read. I think you'll find yourself laughing and swooning right along with the characters.
I really really loved this one. It may be because I grew up in a small Podunk town, and I may have had a family member live in Alaska but I don't care. This romance brought out all the pros for being with a simple man living a very practical life. With the flaws and all. The cons of being with metrosexual men were the first things being thrown out so that automatically sets you as a reader up for the base of the story. Other than that, it was pretty great. Bennett's work never gets you down.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this title. Unfortunately, I found it difficult to connect to the story. Something was off for me. As I didn't completely finish this book, I will not be publishing a review. We do not feature uncompleted books on the blog. Although this title didn't work for me, I look forward to reading more from this author in the future as I've enjoyed her previous work.
New Yorker meets Alaskan sheriff.
Valentine French is a socialite, New Yorker and a famous sex blogger. She writes all her dates and sex life in her blog. She is so fed up with New York Metro sexual males, she wanted something new and different. when her cousin suggest she should travel to Alaska since ratio of male to female is overwhelming in her favor.
When she arrives to small town in Alaska, she meets handsome Logan who happens to be handsome, tall and a sheriff. He gives her a lift since there is no UBER or any driving services around.
Everything is different in Alaska, she wasn't prepare for the weather and the rest. She is getting all the attention from all the male but not all are in her favor. Yet she is determine to experience the whole dating scene plus she wants her viewers to enjoy as well.
As she writes and experiences the Alaskan wilderness, she is enjoying herself more than ever. When she was lost in the woods, Logan (sheriff) rescues her and one thing led to another......
Now she has to decide if she really wants to reveal all her life in Alaska on her blogg or keep some to herself.
It was fun read!!! Valentine was a hoot.. She was funny, honest and she grew on me. It was fun summer read. I would recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Random House Publishing- Loveswept for ARC in exchange for honest review.
Valentine French comes from money, but she doesn’t use her money. Well, other than using it to run her blog that details dating metrosexuals in New York City. When she feels like she has hit a roadblock her cousins has her going to Alaska where the men outnumber the women fifteen to one. Valentine didn’t fully understand what her cousin’s suggestion was getting her involved in. So she decides to take her blog there and talk about the dating the men of Alaska. The Alaskan wilderness is not at all what she was expecting, but then again she let her cousin make all her plans. Can a rich city girl with a blog win over the hearts of the men of Alaska? Will she realize that not everyone has the same up bring and that's ok?
Logan Burke is the sheriff of the town where Valentine finds herself. From the moment she arrives, he ends up coming to her rescue. That isn’t the only time he ends up having to come to her rescue either. There is just something about her that is different, but when she lines up dates with three different guys in one week he knows it is best to stay clear. Can he save her from her crazy blog? Does he really want to?
Valentine is a trip. She takes some getting use to. She is very upper class and coming to Alaska is way out of her realm. So some of her view are not necessarily the same as Logan's or any others in the town. The things she gets herself into and Logan has to get her out of you can really see happening. This book is a stand alone that will bring you a good number of laughs. Yes, there are a few rough moments and even a few surprises. I’m hoping that some of the supporting characters will have their own books as I was sad to have this book come to an end and I need more.
I love Sawyer Bennett's writing style! Sex in the Sticks is sweet, sexy, and lots of laugh out loud moments. Sex in the Sticks has the feels that keeps you turning the pages and very entertained. I felt like it was a little lacking in the beginning but did pick up and didn't disappoint!! An overall enjoyable read.
Omg such a great book by sawyer bennett! Highly reccomend
It took me awhile to get into this book. I would read a chapter and be frustrated with the female MC, Valentine French. My word! She was a snotty, spoilt, selfish, useless person.
I liked this story. Logan is the perfect gentleman to teach Valentine how to live in the Alaskan wildness, with a high society flash of fashion. She takes flannel chic to a whole other level.
I read and reviewed this ARC as an honest reader.
Sawyer is a favorite author of mine. I was honored to read an early copy of this opposite attracts. I love these characters and the way she brought them together.

Opposites in every way, that's Valentine and Logan. She's high society, he's former military everyman. She's big city, he's the edge of wilderness. She's a serial dater, he rarely dates. She's got one close friend/relative, he's hot a town full of friends. Somehow they are drawn to each other when Valentine takes an experimental trip to Alaska to sample the local men after growing weary of metrosexuals in the city.
Valentine's blog on dating in New York has shown her that city men bore her. There is nothing boring about the hulking Chief of Police who captures her attention on her first moments in Alaska. Logan offers his assistance and the path is set. Valentine finds it challenging to navigate the wilds of Alaska and Logan comes to rescue on several occasions and they find each other very appealing. Sexiness ensues!
I can't relate to Valentines pampered lifestyle but I can appreciate her love of a large man like Logan. I enjoyed the story very much and look forward to future books in this series. Sawyer never disappoints to deliver. This HEA was told from dual pov.
Fun new series!! I am a big fan of Sawyer Bennett & this book was another great read. This series is lighter in subject matter than some of her other books but the story is just as exciting.
Valentine was an interesting lady- I didn't really think I'd like her but the author created a snobby sweetheart- is that a thing? ;) And Logan...... whoa.... he's the perfect ideal of a man. Alaska as a setting was just perfect for this story.
Can't wait to read more in this series.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Sex in the Sticks was a first for me of Sawyer Bennett, and I think I want to move to Alaska.
If you ever wondered what happens when a socialite blogger decides to up and travel to the Alaskan wilderness and test out the dating pool in a location full of men, this is the book for you. Valentine had no clue what would greet her when she decided to travel to Alaska, and she was lucky enough to find a friend in local Police Chief Logan. I would have loved to read this book all in one sitting, but had to actually life which I would have delayed if I could. The characters in Valentine and Logan were great as they didn't initially start to date, but you could tell that there was an underlying attraction in all of their interactions together that just screamed out 'Get together already!' Logan was a friend to Val, and through a series of fortunate/unfortunate mishaps, the two just couldn't deny the building attraction. Once together, these two melted snow with all of their chemistry and heat together.
I liked the fact that there was character and relationship building, and it wasn't a situation where they just jumped into bed together at first sight. While not too much time had passed, there were enough interactions to be believable. While there were a few twists and turns once Logan found out that Val had a blog, and that he was the subject of a few entries, the real question is whether they could weather the storm. I recommend this book highly, and will keep up the illusion that if i were to go to Alaska, that i too could find my own Logan. While we can't all be as lucky as Valentine, this book was a fun, entertaining, hot and sexy read.
