This is the second book in the series. The characters in this book are so full of life, so get sucked into there story from the beginning. The chemistry between will set the pages alight as you read. This is a sweet and hot and steamy fairy tale romance story. This book can be read as a stand alone read. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.

Charlotte is the second in line to the throne. She's quiet, shy and the royal wallflower. All Charlotte would like is to have her own fairy tale of finding her prince, falling in love and having a family. Charlotte has a crush on Brooks and has been somewhat "stalking" him for a bit. But there is a slight problem, Brooks Walker is a journalist and owns Walker media and exposed Charlottes family secrets. But she can't help herself and her obsession of all things Brooks.

Brooks is a man on an expedition of exposing all things royal. And he's decided that Charlotte would be his avenue to headlines, advertising and revenue for his company. But the last thing Brooks expects is Charlottes suggesting an affair between them and he agreeing. Brooks finds Charlotte isn't the quiet wallflower that he first thought.

The two embark on an affair and find that the feelings they have for each other are deepening and wonder could this be love. But Brooks is a commoner and Charlottes has a secret she doesn't want exposed. Both have obstacles to over come for their happy ever after.

Loved it! This is a light-hearted story that just makes you smile throughout the whole book. There were a few moments where I wanted to throat punch Brooks, though. Great book and I can't wait for the next one!

The Sinclair family series is off to a great start. Sexy, humourous, romance...what else could a reader ask for? Can't wait for #3!

A new favorite trope for me is royals falling in love with non-royals. Or just novels about royals. So I was looking forward to reading Royal Affair. Just like the first book in Royals in Exile series, this book was wonderfully sweet and enjoyable.

I loved Charlotte. And Brooks was such a fun character as well. While they both had flaws, their chemistry was satisfying. While I'm traditionally not a fan of characters keeping BIG secrets from their significant others, I was OK with this one.

This book was just so..refreshing! And that cover, I don't know why, I absolutely love the covers for this series! I really can't wait for the next book in the series, as the whole Sinclair family is entertaining and rather quite delightful.

He’s the enemy, she – or rather, her life and secrets – is his professional wet dream. It’s supposed to be a simple affair, but, like always, it’s so much more than just physical. Can they make it work?

Brooks runs a very successful media company where he specializes in printing the drama and secrets of the hypocrites in any position of power (stars, politicians, etc.). He first learned about Charlotte when he broke the story about her family, exiled royalty, living in North Carolina (all this was from book 1). But there’s something about her that he just can’t shake, and he wants to get to know her – even as he reminds himself he just wants to learn, and later use, her secrets, nothing more.

Charlotte is the “spare” princess – their monarchy is matrilineal, so she’s in line to be Queen behind her twin sister – and has always lived a very protected life, both for safety, privacy, and some of it of her own choosing, as she tends to have anxiety attacks in large crowds. She knows she shouldn’t let Brooks get close to her, she knows what he can do, but for once in her life, she wants to break the rules a bit and do something just for herself. She requests the affair, though there are rules -- including the deal that he won’t print anything she tells him during the course of the affair. Maybe it’ll come back to bite her in the ass, but even with that risk, she can’t walk away from what they have together.

But things are never that easy, and while Brooks quickly has a change of heart about ever printing anything about her or her family, the same can’t be said for everyone else. When someone with knowledge of the royal family’s secrets tries to blackmail Brooks into breaking the story or lose his entire business, he has to make a choice: lose the life he’s worked hard for or lose the woman he’s fallen hard for?

I loved Charlotte and Brooks together. For one thing, their chemistry is off the charts, and the sex scenes were deliciously hot. I’ve never had a reason to complain about Valentine’s sex scenes before, but I think this one is even hotter than her others. And you know me, that makes me very, very happy.

And this scene . . . Oh, shit. I have A Thing for a hero losing control. And since heroines are always coming on command for the hero, I love the little reversal here....

FYI: She uses the tongue-to-ear and pleading trick during another scene, a quickie while at a party, and that was also hella hot.

They have some fun interactions and banter, too.

I also loved seeing Brooks with his brother and family, as well as Charlotte and her family. There were definitely some fun scenes involving both families, which only added to the book and my enjoyment of it.

And then there’s the tease we get of Gen (Charlotte’s twin, the soon-to-be Queen) and her hero, Deveraux, her bodyguard. Gah, their story is going to be so good, I can tell. Now, admittedly I wasn’t terribly fond of Gen here – I didn’t hate her or anything – but I have a feeling that getting her story, which will obviously be from her POV, will change my mind on that. Their book (#4) won’t be out until September and I cannot wait. Theo, their brother, is next (July) and I’m looking forward to his story, too, as it’s a second chance romance.

Now, I didn’t read book 1, and in a way I do regret that. It’s not that jumping in here will have you completely lost, but I definitely felt like I was a bit in the dark about what went on before they were outed as hidden royalty. It didn’t ruin this story for me at all, but if I could go back in time, I would first pick up Colin and Della’s book, just to get that background information. I have it now and will be reading it while I’m waiting for book 3.

I’ve been a long-time fan of Valentine’s work, and I love that she’s done a royal series, and one that’s different – their being in exile, the crown passing through the women rather than the men, etc. And let’s not forget the dirty-smutty-goodness, which was fantastically done. Royal Affair is my first Valentine in a while, but it reminded me all over again why I love her writing. If you need a new royal series to enjoy, this one should be on your list!

4 1/2 STARS!

Royal affair !

Charlotte is the spare princess to the throne, in case something happens to Imogene. Brooks is the man responsible for outing the Sinclair's to the world making him the most unsuitable man for her. But Charlotte hands been following him on social media and has a crush on him. So when she gets an opportunity she propositions him to an affair.
What starts as a fling soon develops into something more. But what future could the Princess and a villain have ?
The royal affair is a must read. It was sexy, quirky and heartwarming read. I was rooting for them from the start. It was a book that had me smiling throughout and I can't wait for Theo's story.

A great return to the Sinclair family and it's ups and downs in regards to the Royal lineage and its enemies.
A brilliant take on redemption for one of those despised with love reigning by the end.
I thoroughly look forward to reading the next book soon.

Wonderful story with great writing and interesting characters. These aren't your typical royal. They've been in exile for the last 12 years but since their whereabouts and family secrets have been outed to the world their lives have been turned upside down. Having an intense attraction to the man responsible for outing them probably isn't the wisest thing but Charlotte can't resist Brooke Walker. Being the spare sister gives her some freedoms her sister can't enjoy yet letting this fling out of the bag won't go over well with her family. Keeping their hearts out of it is priority one.

A great read that you don't want to miss. I highly recommend it.

Finally the bad guy get's a chance! He is just misunderstood. What people see is not the potential of who he could be. Except Charlotte, she always gave him a chance. Charlotte, the wallflower that no one took notice of except Brooks. No one treats her like an adult but him. What starts like an affair little by little forms into trust and love. It pays a great price to venture outside the rules. I'm loving this series. All the books so far are very romantic. Really liked the first book but this one is even better. Can't wait for the next. Prince Theo will make a very interesting story.

Royal Affair is light and fun! While it can be read as a stand alone, it would help you understand this family. The family is quirky and irreverent which adds a lot of levity to the story.

Charlotte is the 'spare' heir so she has always been kind of second fiddle to her twin and really, Charlotte is okay with that. But, she wants to break out of her 'wallflower' shell and decides to do so with a reporter who has been focused on finding dirt on her family. Brooks is the type of character you aren't quite sure about. You are skeptical that his motives are pure and that he won't take advantage Charlotte. Their relationship starts as a fling and Charlotte is well aware of Brooks' job and reputation, so there is no hiding. I appreciated that. The tension from the story comes from the relationship, which is never my favorite type of plot conflict. First, there is the wonder if/when Brooks will sell Charlotte and her family out, then there is the bigger 'will this turn into a real relationship' tension that takes over as the book goes on. I think part of me wanted Brooks to make 'the grand gesture' or something. I enjoyed the story but the love left me feeling a little meh.

This is the second book in the Royals in Exile series. I adored Royal Scandal and couldn't wait to get more from the Sinclair siblings. The majority of the background on this family was found in Royal Scandal, so I do recommend reading that one first, but this one dives into Charlotte's life. I enjoyed getting 1/2 of the twins' story, but yet getting to see Gen, too. I felt bad for Charlotte and knew her family loved her, but hated how she was treated at times. I wanted her to get her love story!
The reader immediately sees into Charlotte's head and life as her story begins. I was sucked into her world and felt for this princess. Her family had been dealt with a tragedy and even years later, was still experiencing the aftermath. I loved the way Brooks came rushing into her life and watching this wallflower develop into so much more. I was caught up in their affair and thoroughly enjoyed watching them fall into the relationship they didn't plan for! Even though Brooks Walker wasn't a man liked by Charlotte's siblings, he treated her differently and with care and she soon found herself falling for him. I wanted to cheer them on and loved the way he was with her. It was a fun, sexy, swoony book that I couldn't put down. It was full of the feels and I adored Brooks. Their story was easy to get lost in and I highly recommend it!

I was really excited to read this book after reading Royal Scandal. I liked Scandal's (not so) easy friends to lovers story and the authorial voice. But I was really most curious about Charlotte after the first book so this was a natural for me.

I got way more than I bargained for, and in a good way. Charlotte's backstory was far more complex and far more heartbreaking than Scandal let on. I should have guessed with all the secrets coming out before that there were more secrets to come, but somehow I just didn't. Oh how I felt for Charlotte! I liked her too: smart, funny, sassy, and oh so vulnerable.

Brooks wasn't exactly a favorite of mine in Scandal, but here he was every bit as intriguing as Charlotte. With his own issues, his own pains, and his own growing to do, Brooks was every bit as likable as Charlotte.

But this book was about so much more than just them; it was about family and the things families do to help each other out. I loved Brooks' family so much. And it goes without saying that I loved Charlotte's family. They have been consummately there for each other since the beginning.

I really liked Royal Affair and I really liked Charlotte and Brooks together.

Right from the first chapter the chemistry between Brooks and Char is blazing hot. This might be the most erotic book from Valentine. The action gets hot and they go from FWB to honest lovers in a short time. Who would have thought a ruthless celebrity reporter would fall for this hidden princess? She's tougher than she looks and spars with her sister, the future Queen, quite aggressively. Char has a backbone and isn't afraid to use it. Brooks finds his old self and realizes there are more important things in life than his company. The banter between he and his brother is quite funny. Valentine writes magical books that make you giggle and root for the good guys. She connects characters between other series effortlessly and subtley reminds readers about their story, to refresh our memories. This is a series that should be read in order since the whole royal family is involved and there is an underlying threat to them all. My copy came from Netgalley and my review was written voluntarily.

There were just too many details that made no sense.

1. A royal would never hook up with a journalist, and even if Brooks was a media titan, that just made him a journalist with lots of money. Royals and journalists are oil and water, cattle and coyotes. It's just not believable.

2. On a related note, Charlotte offered to have an affair with Brooks, essentially offering sex in exchange for insider secrets. Also not believable.

3. Brooks crashed the event where he met Charlotte. I'm certain security is way too tight to allow anyone to crash an event where royalty is present.

4. Charlotte's sister (the heir to the throne, mind you) told Charlotte she approved. Not in real life.

5. They had sex in a public building crammed full of people, with a security guy keeping watch. Pretty sure royals have learned their lesson about doing things like that, after all the photos taken by paparazzi using telephoto lenses.

These are just a few of the plot points that I couldn't quite wrap my head around in the FIRST QUARTER of the book. I was hoping this would be much better than the first one, but no.

Summary

Princess Charlotte, the twin to her sister who agreed to be Queen, is the spare but is also allowed a bit more freedom than her sister. Charlotte has made it her mission to be a bit rebellious especially when it comes to social media, which is where she ends up harmlessly fllirting with the one man that brought their family into the media’s spotlight and the scandal of the decade. But Charlotte admits that she has a thing for sexy and hot Brooks Walker, the one man she wants to have an “affair” with. She knows that it just reeks of danger and risk especially to her family, but there is something more to Brooks than meets the eye and she wants to know more. At first Brooks and Charlotte begin their relationship with just sex and enjoying themselves, but soon it turns into something more powerful once love gets tangled in the mix. And Brooks will have to prove himself not only to Charlotte of his sincerity but her whole family….the family he burned with a media scandal.
Plot and Story Line

Oh man what fun this book was!!! I truly had a fun time with book one, and was thrilled to get a chance to read book two. This was flirty and fun and I had forgotten how much I truly adored this family and their “antics”. Now this book you must NOT take seriously, its just for enjoyment and fun. Its a royalty themed romance, so has its own share of cheesiness at times, but that just didn’t both me at all. Because this authors writing style is engaging and sexy and heartwarming. At first this couple’s relationship is just a fling of sorts. Charlotte has been burned once but she trusts Brooks. Which is not something I really understood to be honest. But its part of the story so I tried to go with it. I did love the way these two build a relationship though and seeing their quirkiness with each other and the sweet moments that filter through the story. I especially loved seeing the way they really grow when Brooks invites Charlotte to his family home to meet his family. His family is solid, and we also see more depth to Brooks and the strain in his family because of his distance. And on a side note it was truly a delight to see him reconnect with them including his twin. I liked that Brooks and Charlotte are both twins and understand each other in that way. The romance between Brooks and Charlotte is so endearing at times. Of course, they do have some powerful chemistry, but even from the beginning, we see more from them and I loved the way they help each other grow in unique ways and I truly fell in love with the way that Brooks proves himself in the end to Charlotte and her family. And on the plus side, we do get hints of Charlotte’s twin and some sexy tension with her “bodyguard” Yeah I can’t wait for that story for sure.
The Cover

I LOVE the red heels…they are so gorgeous!!

Royal Affair is a lively and sexy romance that makes you laugh, and smile and will charm you from beginning to end!!

The next installment in the Sinclair series did not disappoint. Charlotte's story was just as good as all the rest as well as being hot and steamy.

Royal Affair is the second book in the Royals In Exile series. While this book does technically stand alone, the first book should really be read to give background on the Sinclair family's back story and to make them more likable. If you don't read Royal Scandal first, you probably won't like the Sinclair siblings very much based on their parts in this book.

I was offered a chance to read this by the publisher, and although the 'preview' of this book was not my cup of tea at all, I took a chance on it and I'm glad that I did. Other than an absolutely bizarre rant about politics and the state of the country (which usually turns a book into an instant-did-not-finish for me) at the beginning which had no bearing at all on this book and felt more like a personal declaration on the author's part rather than a vital part of the character's background, this book was pretty good.

Charlotte was interesting to me. While Imogen is a foul mouthed, obnoxious, immature party girl, Charlotte is a sheltered, naive girl who acts at least a decade younger than her age, and doesn't really seem to grasp just how scary the real world is despite her family's history. Her “deal” with Brooks made me highly uncomfortable because she comes across at a maturity level of about sixteen and because, frankly, Brooks hadn't proven himself to be trustworthy in any way at all, but she literally threw herself at Brooks because she was childishly infatuated with the man that she thought he was - despite a boat load of evidence to the contrary. Not exactly the smartest or most mature decision ever. But since this a romance novel and not real life, Brooks was a prince in wolf's clothing, not just an dirty old creeper who was stalking a very naive princess online with nefarious intentions, and everything ended with a hot-sex-equals-love happily ever after.

The best part of this book was Brooks and his family. That's not something I ever expected to say. If Brooks was off-putting to you in the Royal Scandal epilogue/preview for this book with his obnoxious bully behavior, he is nothing like that for most of this book. He's a pretty great guy for a gossip monger who ruthlessly stalked and outed the Sinclairs without a care (in the previous book), actually. He isn't a villain at all, but the kind of hero who will chase the princess repeatedly in order to prove his worth. I thought the time that he and Charlotte spent with the Walker family was far more enjoyable than the tiny amount of time spent with the Sinclairs which is sad but true.

The epilogue with a look in at Theo's life was really funny and I look forward to reading that book as I have a feeling it will be my favorite of the bunch. That said, there was a LOT of foreshadowing for Imogen's story in this one, and again I'm not sure I will seek it out when the time comes. Gen was INCREDIBLY off-putting during this book (whining about her future as queen but having no trouble ordering Charlotte around like her personal servant, using childish vulgar slang while referring to her sister who was heart broken because of Gen's meddling, lying to Brooks AND Charlotte about something that was a really big deal and absolutely not her place to be involved, and constantly acting like a meddling, spoiled little brat) but I really liked Devereaux, so I will probably read their book if given the opportunity even though I do not care for Gen. Even in the slightest.

All in all, this was a decent beach-type read with lots of sex and a lot of drama, and I enjoyed it.

I was graciously offered an ARC of this book by the publisher and NetGalley. I was under no obligation to review this book.

3.5 stars. I loved the first book in this series, which was Colin and Della's story. So I couldn't wait to read this book when it came up for review. Sadly, the story wasn't what I'd hoped for. Charlotte and Brooks story just dragged on for a good half of the book. I found myself jumping ahead just to get to a point where I could pick back up some interest in the story. Thankfully that came about 70% through the book. Story is rather predictable, but it was a pretty good ending. Brooks family was enjoyable, but the Sinclairs just came off weird in this book. I do look forward to Theo's story though, sounds like it will be a lot more interesting than Charlotte's was. Overall this book was just average for me, nothing special.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.

This next chapter of the Sinclair family picks up where Royal Scandal left off, with Charlotte and Brooks. I have to say I love EVERYTHING about this family, and Brooks was amazing. I loved learning about his family as well and hope to see more of them in the future! Highly recommend these books, they are truly great and impossible to put down!
