This is the second book in the Royals in Exile series by Marquita Valentine. Book 2 follows the story of Charlotte and Brooks, both were introduced in Royal Scandal. After a 'deal' is struck between Charlotte and Brooks, they find they have gotten into more than they bargained for. While Charlotte is royalty, Brooks is also well connected in this own segment of society. This is a great read, and also brings the reader up to date with other members of the royal family. I look forward to the next installments of the series to hear Theo and Gen's stories.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book provided by Net Galley and the publisher, for my honest opinion.
I loved this book. It's the second in the series by Marquita Valentine. It could be read as a standalone but would be enjoyed so much more if read in series order.
Princess Charlotte is a sweet and shy person. She doesn't really want to be a princess. There are a lot of secrets n her family and her and her sister are hiding a big one from the world and their brothers.
Brooks own's a news publishing company. He tells famous peoples' secrets. They are always the truth but he doesn't care who he hurts. He starts seeing Charlotte to unearth her secrets. She knows this but neither of them realizes how close he is to the truth.
This book is about secrets and lies. It's a book about how the heart can change people. It invokes a lot of feelings. Anger on Charlottes behalf, laughter at brotherly shenanigans, and that feeling one gets after having read a good book.

Brooks. I did not want to like him but I really do. He's this mixture of sly and annoying but he has a heart and he loves Charlotte. I truly honestly think that these two are opposites but the opposites is what they need.

Charlotte has been in her sisters shadow and is bound by her family restrictions but she can't help but want to be with Brooks. I think she's a character that we should not underestimate.

I love this series and I'm so happy I got the chance to read it. Looking forward to more!!

Royal Affair is the second book in the Royals in Exile Series and can be read as a stand alone novel. Told from dual points of view, Royal Affair follows the story of Brooks and Charlotte. All her life, Charlotte has been the wallflower and the "forgotten twin". She's always been quiet and responsible. There is only one thing Charlotte has truly wanted for herself and that is Brooks. However, Brooks is completely off limits. He is the wrong type of man for Charlotte, but that makes him oh so right....Brooks is one heck of a journalist. He always seeks the truth and will do anything to get it. He's been fascinated by the Sinclair family for quite some time. There is just something about their lives that draws him in and he's quickly finding Charlotte hard to resist. She is everything he could possibly want, but the last thing that he needs. Will Brooks be able to separate his job and his feelings? Will Charlotte finally have the relationship she's always dreamed of? Will Charlotte and Brooks' duties keep them from finding their happily ever after?? You'll just have to read for yourself to find out.

Royal Affair is a fantastic addition to The Royals in Exile Series. This story was fast paced and a ton of fun. I am just a sucker for royal reads and this one was just so much fun. I loved getting lost in Charlotte and Brooks' story. I appreciated where Charlotte was coming from and found her easy to connect with. Brooks is supposed to be the villain of the story, and despite that, I found myself really liking him. I got him. I understood why he was the way that he is and I understood his need for the truth. He is the type of character that you know is bad for you, but at the same time, he is oh so right and you just can't wait for him to step up and prove that he is the right guy. Together, I thought that Brooks and Charlotte were a great pair. They had wonderful chemistry and just really got each other. They balanced one another really well despite their social differences and I just really looked forward to seeing their story play out.

Overall, I thought Royal Affair was a fantastic read. It's a story that you can easily finish in one sitting. The characters are a lot of fun and the story will leave you with a smile on your face. I look forward to seeing where this series will go next.

Charlotte and Brooks? Why not....

No one puts his Princess in a corner.

This is a modern day fairytale continued with a twist. Never have a villain looked so good and acted like a prince and arsehole at the same time. Charlotte gave him life but he also gave her the strength in which she needed to exile her inner demons and live out her fantasies.

I loved them together but boy did Imogen work my nerves ten times over. IJS, it was like, "Dang let Char live".

I am addicted to The Sinclair's and can't wait for ex-PM to get what is coming to him. Dang , now I have to wait some more.

This book was soooooooooooo good. And it was a huge surprise. If you are a fan of the author then you have read her other series. This one ties into the Take the Fall series, book 4 about Hayden and Saylor, who are also featured in this story too, along with the parents. How does it tie in, well Brooks, the romantic lead in this story is the brother to Hayden. In this book Brooks is a sleazy journalist that our heroine, Charlotte has a major crush on.

When Brooks crashes a party, Charlie offers him an exclusive if he sleeps with her and commits to only her. This actually was the only scene I hated in this book. After that scene Brooks and Charlotte form a sexual relationship but also a friendship and they get really close. So much so that Brooks invites her home to meet the parents and thats where we see Hayden and Saylor and the whole family and we meet Brooks twin brother, Briggs.

Those two fall hard for each other and I do want to say that Brooks, never actually writes about Charlotte or her family. He has a few sleazy thoughts but he actually is very protective of her and them. I really totally LOVED this story and was very sorry when it ended.

I really wanted to like this book. The story definitely sounded promising. However, the main problem I was having is that the plot seemed to be a bit disorganized. Why should I care about what information the former prime minister had? How come the investors were going after Brooks now? I kept wanting to know more about whatever intrigue was supposed to be there. Also,I really disliked the "hullos", :oh,dears" and oh,mys" it sounded overdone.

Predictable Royal Romance.

Charlotte is the second in line to the throne. She's quiet, shy and the royal wallflower. All Charlotte would like is to have her own fairy tale of finding her prince, falling in love and having a family. Charlotte has a crush on Brooks and has been somewhat "stalking" him for a bit. But there is a slight problem, Brooks Walker is a journalist and owns Walker media and exposed Charlottes family secrets. But she can't help herself and her obsession of all things Brooks.

Brooks is a man on an expedition of exposing all things royal. And he's decided that Charlotte would be his avenue to headlines, advertising and revenue for his company. But the last thing Brooks expects is Charlottes suggesting an affair between them and he agreeing. Brooks finds Charlotte isn't the quiet wallflower that he first thought.

The two embark on an affair and find that the feelings they have for each other are deepening and wonder could this be love. But Brooks is a commoner and Charlottes has a secret she doesn't want exposed. Both have obstacles to over come for their happy ever after.

I found this a predictable read. But what was a continuos irritating issue for me was Charlotte's immature thought process and dialogue. It was like a teenagers not a mature woman or a princess, in my opinion. Brooks was fine as a hero

One of my favorite themes to read about is Royalty and Cinderella type tales. Royal Affair by Marquita Valentine was refreshing in a way as it still followed suit and style that I loved but in a gender reversal way as it seems with the royalty books it is always the male that is part of the royal family and the female is the commoner. In Royal Affair, though, we are met with Princess Charlotte aka Char Sinclair. Charlotte is second to the throne in their small kingdom as females rule the throne not males, though it seems a twist is in order and one I didn't see coming in Royal Affair. Charlotte for months, possibly years has been busy stalking Brooks Walker - owner of Walker Media and a journalist, one who has a love for uncovering everything to do with politics and the royal Sinclair family. His latest plan to get closer to the Sinclairs is through Charlotte but what he doesn't count on is that Charlotte isn't the wallflower and doormat type princess everyone paints her out to be. In fact, when she wants to be - she can be the one calling the shots. What starts off as a romance arrangement between the pair and a royal affair however as the novel moves on starts to blossom into deeper feelings but can Charlotte be with a commoner like Brooks? What will happen though when secrets of Charlotte's past come to light and could potentially threaten her and Brooks happiness? Will Brooks discover what he wants finally in life and end up with a Mary Poppins of his own? Find out in another amazing book in the Royals in Exile series by Marquita Valentine, and now I hold my breath in anticipation for the next one in the series which will be either Theo's or Imogen's story. If you love reading about Royalty and haven't jumped on the bandwagon of royal fiction yet, then check out the first two books in Marquita Valentine's series "Royals in Exile."

**I received an ARC courtesy of the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

Royal Affair is the second book ni the Royals in Exile series. While it can be read as a standalone, I think it is better received after having read the first book, Royal Scandal.

Princess Charlotte is known as the "spare" and all she wants to do is escape her life and live the quintessential fairy tale - find a man, fall in love and have a family. Not too difficult a request unless the man you want is the one person who is out to hurt your entire family.

Brooks Walker is the one person the royal family wants to avoid. He has a penchant for revealing the secrets of the family and he has his sights set on doing it again.

When Brooks and Charlotte meet and she proposes they have an affair, Brooks is so drawn to her he accepts. But will that derail his plans to out her family's secrets? And, will a secret that Brooks is keeping end up derailing what has quickly become more than affair for both of them?

This was a sweet addition to the series and it's a definite twist on prince charming, but that is certainly not a bad thing.

I am interested to see how the additional books in this series play out. I'm definitely intrigued.

Normally staid and responsible, Princess Charlotte is out to break a few rules, and does so by flirting with Brooks Walker, CEO of Walker Media and a man responsible for exposing secrets of the rich and famous. Royal Affair is the second in Marquita Valentine’s Royals in Exile series, and I would say - not having read the first book, that doing so would certainly seem to help. I felt immediately lost and confused reading this - and I didn’t get a solid understanding of the previous scandal until more than halfway through this book. And to be completely honest, I started skim-reading about 60% of the way through.

What attracted me to this book was the cover — it’s bright, and gives a sense of being fun and flirty that carries over across the covers for the rest of the books in the series. And I’m a sucker for the bad-boy redemption and undercover royalty, so I thought this book would be right up my alley. Except I didn’t feel an emotional connection between Charlotte and Brooks at all. Not on their own, not when they were with each other’s family, nothing. Add to that, I found the dialogue to be forced and clunky. I could see that the author was attempting witty banter, but it came through as tired and overdone on the page.

There was a point near the beginning, when Charlotte’s sister Imogene tells her, essentially, “He should be chasing you!” Which, yeah. He should be. That’s kind of what makes the bad-boy redemption trope so great most of the time: the idea of a bad guy being brought to his knees though the power of a good girl, not with it beginning with her chasing him.

This book and series has potential, and it certainly will have it's fans - but I just don't think it fits me right at the moment.

I have read several books by this author and liked them all. This is a fun, easy, sexy and quick read romantic novel.
Whilst the storylines are predictable, they are "feel good" stories which are great holiday or rainy day books.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC.
3.5 stars

An overly sweet mash of soap opera and fairytale, Royal Affair was unevenly twee with a perfect princess, the downfall of a cynic hero, and relentless cutesy banter among the royal siblings. I enjoyed the tie-in to the author's Hard to Fall (Brooks is Hayden's brother) but otherwise, found this one fun but not as original or good as Charlotte's brother Colin's book.

Also, a little pet peevish rant: Brooks gifts Charlotte romance books by Sawyer Bennett. It really gets my back up when romance authors throw in references to fellow romance authors - it's blatant wink-wink marketing at worst and silly and clique-ish at best. I only forgave the author because the later tie-in t0 the Walker family from Hard to Fall was well done. If anything, the bickering among the Walker brothers was far funnier than the royal siblings'.

Great continuation of sweet series! Story picks up where we left off. We even get to relive the hilarious water gun scene!!!

Brooks is definitely a drool worthy guy. I wish we had learned more about his sexy Instagram photos!! And he definitely turned out to be a Prince Charming rescuing his fair maiden. He was always doing he running!!! Wish she would have ran to him at least once.

Then Briggs... now he's the twin I want to know more about!!

And Devereux (totally misspelling that), he is definitely a Dominant!!!!!

Now what is bothering me, how did he really lose everything??? Did it have to do with Davies?? And what was the deal with the contract indicating he couldn't date her??? I think that part of the storyline didn't work. It started out one way and then switched up along the way. It just didn't work for me.

LOVE Brooks and Char!!! I totally fell in love with Char during the first book. She is the most down-to-earth of all the kids. Brooks, it turns out, is human even though he is a journalist. LOL. Love this series, Can't wait to read Theo's and Gen's books.

I must say, I liked book one,Royal Scandal so much better than book 2, Royal Affair. The books can be read as standalone, but I recommend reading them in order to have the family's whole backstory.

I thought Princess Charlotte's story was going to be much different than this book turned out. I loved her brother's story so much. I just envisioned Princess Charlotte having more of a love story. This one wasnt so much love to be. Nothing grand.
