I have thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful manga. I usually don't read mangas but since this was about one of my favourite tales ever I had to see what this was about and I'm so happy I did. It is well executed and simply wonderful. I enjoyed Belle's POV and cannot wait to read volume II.
I'll definitely be purchasing it in the future.

This is a two volume middle-grade, direct adaptation of Disney's 2017 film "The Beauty and the Beast" in manga format. I'm reviewing both volumes together because I don't see the need for separate reviews for either book. Volume 1: Belle's Tale is told entirely in Belle's point of view and Volume 2 from the Beast's.
This is definitely intended for younger readers as there isn't a lot of complexity or depth to the storylines and it is very quick reading. Reading from an adult's point of view it falls flat and I wasn't feeling the magic, even though it sticks close to the movie. The prologue in Volume two was a bit strange and felt tacked on.
Overall, the graphics were nice but I wasn't blown away and I preferred the Beast's point of view to Belle's. It's a nice companion to the movie but not a necessary one unless your kids are die-hard fans.
*Thank-you Mallory Reaves, Netgalley & TokyoPop for the ARC.
Awesome book. I loved the different point of views for each book. It was well done and followed the new movie very, very closely.
Ahh.. this was beautiful. This was my first ever Manga read and I didn't knew this before picking this up. Obviously I didn't knew beforehand about manga so I had some trouble reading it at first. But after some research, I was on track, and oh boy it was exactly as the movie (minus songs and detailed graphics). I would strongly recommend to read this only if you have watched the Disney's new Beauty and the Beast movie (released in 2017), otherwise you might miss the charm of it.
The story is the classic beauty and the beast so nothing new at that front. This is a two books series. This book is from the Belle's POV while the other is from Beast's POV (which I am still to read). It was refreshing to read the story through Belle's mind.
The illustrations in the book were beautiful. They were so close to the movie. I liked the illustrated beast very much and the library was beautiful. There were some illustrations that were not much clear. Some scenes just jumped to other, which is difficult to understand if you haven't already watched the movie. But most of the art is good. This was a quick read and I finished it in just an hour.
I highly recommend it to all the Beauty and the Beast lovers out there :)
I really loved to see the Story of Beauty and the Beast come alive in this one.
After reading it this form, I really want to buy the Prinz Edition to put it on my shelfs and be able to read it again and again.
It was nice to view the pictures. It really illustrates the characters well. I know the story well so it was rrally enjoyable to read it in this format.
When I saw this graphic novel I knew that I just had to read it. Beauty and the Beast is and will always be my favorite Disney story. With all of that said, I will admit I was a little disappointed. I felt like it was a complete copy of the new movie with no new motivations attributed to the characters. I would have loved to have had the inside perspective of Belle and unfortunately this book did not give me that.
The artwork was well done but not awe inspiring. Ultimately, it was a very quick and pleasant read but I do not feel the need to read the next one.
★★/☆☆☆ 2 Stars for this almost step-by-step copy of the new Disney movie.
First of all, a big thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free digital copy to read and give a honest review.
Just a small warning if you don't know the fairytale of haven't watched the movie, my review will contain some minor spoilers!
I was very excited when I saw this manga on Netgalley and already looked forward to writing a pretty review. The cover is beautiful and I really like the story and the new Disney movie. Alas, my excitement waned quite a bit when I started reading Belle's Tale. The art looked half-hearted on a lot of pages, some were very nicely done with pretty backgrounds but a lot of pages only had the characters in them and it felt very lifeless.
Except for some scenes it mostly felt like scenes directly taken from the movie, sans background, with little insight into Belle's thought which was what the manga promised. Belle's thoughts and feelings were flat and made her appear even more lifeless than the missing background did. In fairytales the background is important to me, because it conveys the feeling of the world being magical with the right setting but let's move on from complaining about the white backgrounds.
The art itself was pretty, give the author a few more years to practice and it will be absolutely wonderful!
What also bothered me was that some scenes where missing and the dialogue made them out to be there. If you know the movie that's no problem but if not it's a bit weird. For example when the Beast says, "Be my guest, go ahead and starve!". End of scene. And Belle later replies and being offered dinner by one of the enchanted servants that, "But he said if she doesn't eat with me she doesn't eat at all." He did say it in the movie but that scene was simply missing in the manga.
Another scene that appeared to be not as thought through was the one where Belle is chased by wolfs. Belle stands in one panel in front of the horse when she spots the wolfs, it's the scene that's used in picture books and it's also in the movie, but in the next panel she's on the horse again. The panel doesn't make that much sense in the spot it was placed because the scene is from when a wolf bites the horse's leg and Belle falls of.
All in all I didn't really enjoy reading it, mostly because I missed the character depth, Belle's innermost thoughts, but the few times the reader is given one of Belle's thoughts they feel flat. The other thing that really bothered me, as anyone who read my review knows, were the multiple blank backgrounds and characters floating in nothingness.
I was looking this over to see if I could add it (and the Beast one) to our Children's Room collection, since they're listed as teen. I found them very difficult to follow, with the direction of the panels and the dialog balloons changing frequently. Many parts would have made no sense if I hadn't just seen the movie, such as the invention she's using to wash the clothes, there only a few disconnected images of it and I don't think someone who hadn't seen the movie could piece it together. I really like the concept of books from each of the points of view, but the execution just wasn't very good.
I always love reading different versions of Beauty and the Beast!!
I received a free advanced e-copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This manga goes with the movie released this year.
I loved reading this in both Belle and the Beasts voice. I loved the movie and this manga series too!
Could not open the document therefore I was not able to read
Fabulous! Just bought them for my own collection because they were just that good :)
This book has so many beautiful drawings throughout, whilst also conveying the story of Beauty and the Beast. It was a nice little read and I'm glad I got to read it. The only thing I could suggest to improve is to introduce the concept of the characters that are under a spell a little more. If someone hadn't seen the movie of Beauty and the Beast before, they wouldn't know why the kitchen utensils are talking until the end of the book, which could be confusing.
This is a manga adaptation of Disney's Beauty and the Beast movie. It is told in Belle's perspective. I like the concept of having twin books. But because it is a different platform, the story is in a rush. The illustrations are beautiful like common mangas. Nothing new about the plot but I still want to have a hard copy of these books.
The manga adaptation of Beauty and the Beast was a surprise! Not only did it have more depth on Belle's feelings but also more funny moments.
The art in some parts felt a little rough and not so detailed but some scenes, like the library and Belle's house were amazing! I will defenitely buy the manga editions!
Disney Beauty and the Beast volume 1 and 2 are shojo manga adaptations of Disney's live action "Beauty and the Beast". A direct representation of the film in manga-form, the 2-book volume lacks the musical numbers evident in the films and exchanges them for thoughtful inner monologues, however, offers little to nothing new about Belle or the Beast.
Although, there is nothing extraordinary or different to be found in the manga, both volume 1 and 2 are fun to read and a good addition to any fan of the Beauty and the Beast story.
I liked the art style and the extra info at the end (character designs and layouts).
But honestly, the manga doesn't offer anything new. It's exactly like the live-action Disney film, minus the musical numbers. There isn't much emphasis on Lumiere and the others.
Volume 1 is supposed to be from Belle's perspective, which aligns similarly to the film. Volume 2 is from the Beast's perspective, and I just wish there was more characterization for the Beast, but again, it's just like the film.
All in all, it's a fun read and a great addition for a fan's personal library.
This volume of the manga tells the story of the live action Beauty and the Beast through Belle's eyes. I really enjoyed the art style and I enjoyed the story through Belle's perspective. And I liked being able to see what happened to her mother.
It is a beautiful comic. I really enjoyed reading it. I love the character design and it follows very close to the film. The only negative thing I have to say is that it sometimes felt like that there were pages missing and it jumped from scene to another. I would defiantly would recommend. It would make a great addition to any Beauty and Beast collection.
Beautifully illustrated. It takes a lot of skill to transform a movie (moving shots) into a book. They did it wonderfully. The pages come alive and I relive the actual movie again.
