Excellent summary of the story given one perspective.

This is a dual review for Mallory Reaves pair of Beauty and the Beast manga novels (Disney Beauty and the Beast: Belle's Tale and Disney Beauty and the Beast: The Beast's Tale respectively).

These are illustrated Tokyopop manga adaptations of the new Disney live action Beauty and the Beast movie. They are charmingly illustrated and do a nice job of translating the revised movie plot to the page. The books act as bookends to each other, each covering the same amount of time, but from opposite points of view (Belle's view in book 1, and Beast's view in book 2). There are some shared illustrations/panels from book to book, but each book still offers its own unique perspective and are more fulfilling when read in the paired sequencing.

I'm a huge Beauty and the Beast fan and also loved the movie. While these books did not offer any new insights or add any new plot twists (again, it's a straightforward adaptation), they did make me smile and are great for anyone who enjoyed the movie or who is just a fan of Beauty and the Beast or Disney manga.

I received a copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 rating. This manga added nicely to the tale I've come to know in my life as a child. The drawings are beautifully done, I just imagined colour. Some things added made a little more sense, but nothing too much different happened. At first I had to get used to finding text not in a bubble, which meant what she was thinking versus what she was saying. All in all this was a lovely book.

Belle's Tale (Disney Beauty and the Beast #1) by Mallory Reaves is written from Belle's point of view. I liked this style because we get to know what Belle is thinking and how she is seeing things. This comic is an adaptation to the new movie. It is well executed and well drawn. It was a quick read.

The art in this book is nicely done. I feel like the illustrator did a great job adapting the film for a manga-style book while still keeping the feel of the original source material.

This volume covers the entirety of the film. I think it was an interesting choice to make two volumes, one from each Beast and Belle's points of view. By giving each of the main characters their own volume, it allows you to know more of what the character is thinking in any given scene.

Overall, Belle's Tale was very enjoyable and was a very close adaptation to the film. I'm glad I have volume 2 to pick up right away as the book does feel a bit incomplete without the Beast's scenes. I highly recommend this for Beauty and the Beast fans and it could be a nice introduction to manga for those unsure if they would enjoy the format.

I received the book from Diamond Book Distributors and Tokyopop via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a great little graphic novel. I had a lot of fun reading it and I enjoyed seeing the story through Belle's eyes!

With the movie releasing now, it was almost perfect to dive into this one. only hard thing was to read it because of the "Review Copy" watermark.. Also is the story backwards or was it only like that for me..

If you've seen the live-action version of Beauty and the Beast then you will enjoy this manga. The style is distinctly manga but not too flowery and you can still see the resemblance to the famous characters. Enjoyable and a great companion to a junior novelization. A worthwhile purchase for our library.

This is the story of live action version of Beauty and the Beast from only Belle's point of view. The story is followed very closing with only a few differences. The drawings were very detailed and accurate to the live action movie. This would be a good read for middle grade or any one that is obsessed with all thing Beauty and the Beast.

Great complement to the new live action movie (which, as a Beauty and the Beast hardcore fan, I loved!).

I love manga so I was super excited to see one of my favorite stories adapted into the format. I immediately requested it when I saw it on Netgalley.

There really wasn't anything new to the story in this comic but it was a nice blend of the old animated Disney movie and the new live-action adaptation. It covers the entirety of the new film but only from Belle's point-of-view. My favorite thing about this volume was the art. The illustration style was beautiful!

I found this to be an enjoyable read and I was glad that I had the next volume from the Beast's point-of-view to jump into immediately after I finished. If you're looking for a way to get into manga, this series would be a good place to start. I can't wait to buy a copy for my boyfriend's daughter and my godkids!

In this manga art concept, you’ll discover a beautifully rendered version of the story of Beauty and the Beast. It closely follows the script from the live-action film. If you have already seen it, you won’t have any trouble recognising all the fabulous scenes. The illustrations are very nice and sleek. It really matches the magic of the film.

The only downside of reading a manga in a PDF version is the fact that it’s a real hassle to read from bottom to top (yeah, manga must be read the opposite way). It was really a nuisance to read in that format. But as it is a free copy from NetGalley, it was a necessary evil. I can only recommend you to get the paper-based manga. It really does justice to the film.

A Manga adaptation of the recent live-action Disney film, Beauty and the Beast. This story follows along closely with the movie and is told from Belle's perspective. The illustrations are enchanting (I agree with another reviewer that the Beast looks better in his Manga manifestation) and the cover is beautiful. For Beauty and the Beast fans and Manga readers.

*~.Manga Analysis.~*
Just remembering that those were my impressions and opinion as a reader :)

This wasn’t my first Disney manga by any means – I have already read their Japanese adaptations for Operation Big Hero, Lilo & Stick, Monters Inc., Finding Nemo, Nightmare Before Christmas (my favorite one!), among others. I knew it would be magical and beautiful, but I didn’t expected the warmth in my heart that Beast’s Tale brought. While I found Belle’s Tale too flat and barely explained, they dug deeper on the Beast’s past and it made the series truthfully worthwhile! Four proud stars <3

As this is an adaptation of the live action, I don’t see much point in going on and on about plot and narrative matters =) I just must warn you all that we only see things from Belle and Beast’s POVs, so no Gaston awesome scenes, unfortunately >.<

If you all guys ask me, this is the kind of manga/book that will only interest readers that are truly aficionados or collectors, as it lacks depth and 70% of the pages lack background. It’s pretty, it’s shiny, and it’s hollow. It works for me, as I do happen to fall in both categories mentioned, but if you’re looking for something with new information about the plotline behind the live action, you’ll be disappointed.

Now, let’s talk about the art! This is the big secret of the series, to tell the truth. The adaptations were masterfully done and, while those are the characters we already know, they are also new and TokyoPop’s own version of the magic =) You can see on the covers how beautiful Belle and Beast look <3

GUYS, THESE COVERS. THEY COMPLETE EACH OTHER. DO I NEED TO SAY MORE?!!! Okay, I’ll say more hahaha! I loved the chosen colors – the shades of deep blue, the rich yellow for the rose (I expected red, but this worked) and the manga adaptation of the characters… Oh boy! I just loved it all!

Overall, if you like manga and the beauty and the beast, you’ll love these new volumes <3 I can’t wait to see them around in Brazil to add them to my Disney manga collection!

Thank you so much for reading this review! Also, thanks so much to Diamond Comic Distributors and NetGalley for my review copy =D Only God knows when and if this is coming to Brazil, so I feel blessed to be able to at least read it <3

I have always loved the movie Beauty and the beast. I love that manga came out with a graphic novel for the live adaption of the film. As always the illustrations are beautiful and full of life. The book was a very quick light read. I read it in one sitting which only took an hour. We got to see a little bit of what happens after the happily ever after which I think is really cool. I wonder if the entranchess is Belle's mother. This book does not disappoint. Now I am off to read the Beast's tale

A manga retelling of the story from Belle's perspective (took me a minute to get that I was supposed to read it backwards). As Manga it was sort of the short hand version...but the graphics were lovely and true to the live-action version. I enjoyed it, and look forward to reading Beast's Tale.

I thought the concept of this was interesting: applying manga to Disney's live-action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast. I will admit that I don't usually read manga or comic books (I've never read manga and only several comics in my entire life), but I thought this was very enjoyable. It kept true to the story of the live-action remake but with its own take. The drawings were beautifully done, and I really liked this. I also liked the idea of splitting this into two volumes to account for each character's - in this case, Belle's - take on events. However, at the same time, if reading one after the other, it makes it slightly repetitive for the scenes were both Belle and Beast feature.

However, like I mentioned before, I think this was a beautiful adaptation of Disney's Beauty and the Beast.

This manga adaptation of the new movie is told in two parts. The first volume is told entirely in Belle’s point of view, while the second focuses on the Beast’s side of the story. The story line is the same as the movie, minus some scenes.

Unfortunately, I feel that without having seen the new movie or the original, readers might be a bit lost. Belle’s side of the story starts off with an introduction of her parents and then straight into the scene where the song ‘Belle’ would start. Because it is only told from one view, we are not told about the curse until after she sees the rose. As individual volumes, the stories jump around and we miss key elements. The whole scene with Maurice and Gaston in the pub? Non-existent. From the Beast’s tale, the first time Gaston is present is at the very end when he arrives with the mob. So make sure you don’t read it out of order!

One thing I did enjoy was the additions that were made. Due to it’s format, the author chose to include what the two characters were actually thinking in certain moments, rather than just see the scenes play out.

While I absolutely loved the artistic style and the attention to detail in the illustrations, I feel that this would have been much better off as a single, solid story. As is, it feels extremely incomplete. For a movie that is full of color and vibrancy, this adaption lacks the necessary elements to make up for what the movie offers. I have ready a few of Tokyopop’s Disney adaptions, but I feel that this is the first one that I didn’t really care for.

2.5 stars.
