This was so beautiful, and definitely the better of the two. Stunningly drawn, and it's so rare to see these things from the Beast's POV, and it makes the happy ending so much more satisfying.

Amazing Read

I received a copy from Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review.

This was an incredible read. I have had this on my Netgalley shelf and finally read it. This is the second and final volume of Disney Beauty and the Beast Manga. In this volume, the story is told from the Beast's perspective and I especially loved this one. For me, the Beast is one of the most complex characters in Disney. He can be aloof, but also vulnerable. He can be mean, but when it comes to the people he cares about, we see the softer side of him. Throughout his perspective, I thought about how he changed since meeting Belle and loved his transformation in the story. His perspective taught me that even when there are some moments of ugliness, the people who love us see us as who we are and that is all that matters. I loved every minute. Overall, an amazing read.

This is the companion book to "Belle's Tale" by Mallory Reaves, the release of these coinciding with the live action remake of Beauty and the Beast several years ago. As I stated in my previous review, I think the story lends itself to the manga style of retelling. While Belle's book is colored in the shonen manga style, Beast's book has a far darker, more somber palette. As Beast's moods change and he begins to mature and grow the palette likewise lightens and becomes more forgiving.

Beast's backstory was compelling, although not quite as thoroughly realized as Belle's ultimately was. His story is rife with introspection, his inner voice interesting. It's fun to watch him mature and grow as the story goes on. By the time the conclusion is reached, after spending so long in his company I truly felt he had earned that happy ending.

The companion mangas really compliment one another. I think it's a good introduction for people who haven't seen the movies or are unfamiliar with the story, and a fun supplemental bit of reading for those who are.

I'm a biased opinion as I love Beauty and the Beast and did enjoy the new movie, but this is a solid adaptation. The art is not amazing, but I have incredibly high standards, so, at the very least I can say artist knows what they are doing.

It is a little forgettable, as I finished reading it and promptly forgot most of it or what made it different, but it has some smaller scenes beyond the movie, and I approve of that. I also approve that they split the book into two which allowed for the story to breathe a little.

With the release of the live action Beauty and the Beast came the manga retelling! In “The Beast’s Tale” we learn how the selfish prince became the Beast. His time is running out and Belle is his only option to break the curse. Just like “Belle’s Tale” there isn’t anything new added to this classic story, but it still follows the live action movie! The manga style was a cute and fun way to enjoy a Disney classic!

Disney beauty and the beast vol 2 by Mallory Reaves.
In Disney's live-action film ""Beauty and the Beast,"" Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast's hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince inside. This manga explores the Beast's struggle as he tries to move on from his past and learn what it is to love and Belle's innermost thoughts as she learns that true beauty comes from within.
I love anything disney. I love the illustrations in this book. 5*.

I really enjoyed both volumes of this graphic novel. Yes it is based mostly on the live action movie, but I still enjoyed it (big Beauty and the Beast fan here). The artwork was excellent and I really enjoyed the story.

This graphic novel is great! I read both back to back and the art style is really pretty and true to the film.

It was interesting to read the Beasts take on the classic story. I would recommend this to anyone who likes the Beauty and the Beast story and graphic novels. Working in a bookstore, I have noticed a lot of young readers love to read graphic novels rather than chapter books or full length novels. This will definitely be a book I would recommend to customers.

This book tells the story of "Beauty and the Beast" from Beast's point of view, something I didn't know I needed but now realize is essencial.

The art's very similar to the first volume's.

The story is the same but with a different point of view, which somehow made it sadder, it was great to see it from this point of view.

Rating: 4 stars

These were very interesting takes on the BATB story line. The art was well done. I am a huge fan of anything BATB so this was right up my alley.

I absolutely LOVE Beauty and the Beast, and having a graphic novel made for it is perfect to tell an enchanting 'tale as old as time' story.

A beautiful rendition of a classic Fairy Tale. This graphic novel catches the beauty of this story through it's narration and images.

The manga style is so engaging, and I liked that we got to see more of the Beast's side of the story, which is often obscured while the story follows Belle. This is a fun accompaniment to the movie.

I was really hoping to get more back story for Beast from this volume, but other then a couple of passing mentions to his mother and father we really don't get anything extra from seeing the story from his perspective. The story really is about Beauty and the Beast so having the story split for the perspectives means we loose large chunks of the story in both volumes and leaves neither of them feeling very complete.
I would much rather have had the whole story fleshed out and spread between two volumes rather then what we got with these.
All that being said the art was nice and all of the characters were immediately recognizable with the exception of Belle who looked like a stock manga female. The backgrounds however were exquisite.

A must-have for "Beauty and the Beast" fans! The artwork is absolutely beautiful and the traditional manga style lends a sense of newness to the familiar tale. 5/5 stars.

I think I like Beast's Tale more than Belle's Tale because we get to see inside the Beast's head and find out more about his past. I loved being able to see his interactions with the staff. The drawing is phenomenal and the detail in each picture is amazing.
